[Q] Meego 1.3 on Xperia Play?! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to install Meego 1.3 (the same of Nokia N9) on Xperia Play, on dual Boot?

An interesting idea. I think Maemo might be easier for devs to implement in the short term though.

Yeah an nteresting idea, you'll need to port the FW version off the N9 and not the public release cuz that looks nothing like the one on the N9.
It would be alot of work i think as some of it, from the N9 version, is closed source.
Some devs has been working on an android port to the Nokia N900, to dual boot into, for like 18 month now and they have got most of it working, exept the phone part wich is still not fully working. Afaik i know thay're on android 2.3.5 now.
So a nice idea, but in reallity not doable without alot of time put into it and even then it might not be doable or fully working.
The plays specs should support it.
Regards Dousan...
e: afaik know it's 'only' Meego 1.2 Harmatten and not 1.3

Thanks for your replies. I love Xperia Play games and emulator, but Meego 1.3 seems to be awesome, and mainly different.

I would try it on some other phone first. Galaxy S2 would be a great choice, because it is a fairly simple yet powerful phone.

if somebody somehow ported meego to the xperia play you would almost certainly loose use of the touchpads, that kinda makes the controller part of the play a litte useless then.

Yeah you would loose the use of the touchpads, but that wouldn't be an issue if it was done as a dualboot. Boot into Meego as everyday phone and boot into android/SE FW whenever you would like to play and still be able recieve calls etc. This taken someone could port it fully wich i personally doubt we'll see happen.
It would need to boot on the same kernel as the play can't natively flash kernels or you would need a to boot it from a pc, but then it would be more a proof of concept more than anything else, cuz if rebooted you would go into android again and need a pc to boot Meego once again. On my old Nokia N900 it could natively flash kernels on the go. So when booting into android from maemo it would flash the kernel that was needed and vice versa to boot up in the choise of OS.

[IDEA][ROM]WFS compatible|sonyEricsion Xperia stock|Acer Stock|windows mobile 7

hello developers,
i had an idea and a request
why not you guys work on other custom roms to make them compatible for WFS????
its a good idea coz there are many cool Roms out there...
like Xperia, walkman series rom, acer got a cool rom too....even Dell got a cool looking GUI
people have different tastes....CM7.2 is a simply great rom....but people may not like the GUI
sense GUI is faar better than CM7.2
why not developers work on custom roms from other android phones?? ))
that will be great ^___^
plz dont consider my post as spam..i just suggested this thing....starting a poll ...if people will like my idea they'll support it..
i dont know if i'm the only one to love the custom rom's GUi o.o
+
There is another request...
in market(public market not android market)
windows mobile 7 is quite popular these days...
why not developers work on windows mobile 7 OS compatible for WFS
since unlocking boot loader = we can install all the OS
being an WFS developer and WFs user we should have many options
like i said everyone have different tastes...who knows who likes what?
users should have many options in there hand like what to install.....
you cant because of different hardware configurations and kernel. its like porting sense to samsung which cant be done. next time post in general section.
If you're just looking for GUI. download launchers like launcher 7, go launcher ex.. something like that.

Mindhexer is right. Good dream though. Get you a HD2 if you want a windows &/or android phone; although, porting to android may knock out your volume toggle :/ honestly very very hard to port to a new os, but you'd have a slightly easier time of it going from open source to open source [ie hp touchpad; and that's not easy by any means]. Basically you will have to find in many cases drivers that work or have a decompiler [thousands of $] and a lot of programming knowledge [and free time]. Simply not feasible for our device; even though, I love to say anything is possible; I'd bite my tongue, hope you were Richie Rich, and point you toward some brilliant dev teams; Again though, you'd probably have another device that started windows [definately closed sources] and got ported over. I have yet to see one go the other way and it would probably open the door to legal issues to attempt :S So, in short, nope.

Xperia is overrated man. [IMHO]
Use your lovely phone while you can, like the other hundreds of us.
Its not possible to do any of those ports. End of story
I do wanted WP7 on my WFS but our phone doesnt clear few minimum specs..........we could use the WP7 port of the HD2 but because of the difference in the processor(and the shipped OS)....only an EXTREMELY TALENTED dev can accomplish this feat
BTW,we can try ubuntu can we???

yes correct, end of story.
Possibility to use launchers themes looks like WP or Xperia.
If its just the looks, just use some launcher, there are many themes/skins... or make them yourself, its far easier than doing what u suggested, and it would be too much job for something that is not that big from my point of view.

Pretty sure they ported Android 2.2 to the Samsung Omnia II (Windows 7 mobile)...
Maybe i'm going to make a CyanUX for the WFS ;-) (CyanogenMOD / Sony mix)
I will maybe make MIUI for WFS (based on CM7, fully themed, debloated and lots of MIUI apps).
Anything is possible, but porting one rom to a different phone is a never ending battle. Beside the the only real benefit would be a performance port, gui can be accomplish as mentioned in above post. If you really want to see this happen pick your favorite dev and put him or her on payroll, truthfully they should be getting paid for the work their doing now.

For Xperia Sony style, you dont need a whole new rom.
Two things, and cm7 will look totally different:
Xperia Launcher
Xperia Theme, install and choose it from the theme chooser app
Hope this helps, click thanks!

MIUI will take a lot of GUI resize work, I think. But can be done.
Best to wait for latest MIUI release with ICS after CM9 is ported by the WFSDEV guys.
No resizing needed for miui, I use cm7 and theme it and add miui apps which are ported and confirmed working.
For CM9, I'm part of the devteam, and it will take some time for a working cm9.
The "real" MIUI will never come to WFS, due to hardware (screen and cpu).
I have to say it isn't that great in all the aspects either.
There aren't many languages supported, you dont have the cyanogenmod settings and its sometimes slow and battery hungry.
The best I think is to combine the power of cm7 with the beauty of MIUI.

Mozilla Boot to Gecko

Hi everyone, especially our great developers!
I saw the new screenshots of Mozilla's in-development HTML-5 Web OS, "Boot to Gecko" and it certainly seems awesome, clean and sleek!
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/b2g/
I was wondering if anyone has thought of making it work on our Xperia Arc. Sure, it is not a dual-core device, but since it can run Android 4 just fine, couldn't it also be capable of running B2G?
It would be great to see another OS working on the Arc. (B2G, MeeGo, Tizen in a couple of months , Ubuntu Phone, etc..)
No comments anyone?

Ubuntu at the ready?

With the release date of the Ubuntu phone Images announced, are any developers preparing to port it the the arc? I hope the spec can handle it as I would love Ubuntu to see my beloved Arc out!
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone/operators-and-oems
minimal specs are :512 mb -1 gb ram+
4-8GB eMMC + SD - we dont have enoth storge we have only 1 gb....
1ghz procesor +
Will ubuntu pwned android?
Hmmm short term answer will be NO
But long term, we wont know
what is eMMC?

It depends. You don't need to port stuff like data2sd, the best solution would be to mount some directories at the sdcard which aren't immediatly needed at boot. I want it as well, but I'm still rather unexperienced with porting os'es to ARM devices. I do know something about linux.
For example: In my (basically unused) Ubuntu installation (I run Arch Linux as main OS) 75% of the total 2.5 GiB is used by the dir '/usr'. If we could mount that on the sdcard, 1 GB is plenty for the rest. Putting '/usr' on another partition/disk is not that uncommon in linux, so it should work. Also, if you download applications, most of it goes in /usr. (other directories we have to put on the sdcard are /opt (some kind of /usr) and /home ofcourse)
Space is no problem. One of the problems is that the Xperia Arc runs on an ARMv7 processor, and the Galaxy Nexus (which will receive Ubuntu Phone on 22 feb) is ARMv9.

'Big' is relative of course. We will need to compile everything for ARMv7, because I assume Canonical won't have repositories for every architecture possible from the start. If Canonical releases ARMv7 stuff from the start, the main problem would be to get the different components to work, just like an Android ROM. Ubuntu Phone will use Android drivers they said, so hopefully it'll work.
If there's anyone that wants this on their Xperia Arc S and wants to help as well, please contact me or post something in this forum.
I will try my best to get this up and running on the Arc, but I can't promise anything. I'm not an experienced developer.

i am ready to help, although i dont have any experience with these kinds of developement.
i have an lt18i.
I think we are waiting on ubuntu to publish the wiki page about how to port it to other devices, once its up then we can have a crack at it
It is published. unfortunately i cant sync those HUGE sources because of low diskspace left (for compiling which has been taken up by other projects). hopefully as i clean up, you may expect a build soon. I said may, not will.
disc space isn't an issue over this end, how big is it?
Edit: 15GB, thats a big download.. D:
Around 15 gigs I think. With more needed for binary compiling. It says so in the guide
Im on a 40gb download limit a month, and I've already used most of it up :/
i would love to have a port of this
but unfortunatly, i am not able to help, as i do not know how to succesfully port

Volunteers needed
Hello everyone, I want, just like you, Ubuntu Touch on my Xperia Arc (S). I'm willing to spend a lot of time on it, although I'm not an experienced developer, I think I might be able to do it. For the moment, I have no immediate plans to port it, I'm first trying to understand it better. I've already encountered a lot of possible problems, but thank Canonical that they have made Ubuntu Touch so easy to port. (based on CM 10.1, using the same display driver, ...)
I would like to have a list of people that want to help or test. I'm not a real fan of doing everything in a forum, so perhaps we could make a google project or so. What do you think?
As someone's who's just switched from a dual boot of linux mint / Windows 7. To Just Ubuntu, I would be interested if it were to come to our architecture, but I thought ubuntu needed dual core processors? And obviously HDMI won't be available.
Google Apps isn't native to ubuntu right? So what kind of ecosystem would we be moving to? Also there is no lockscreen which is a little concerning, but the device itself works like BlackBerrys new OS, which is nice.

What is the best Doom wad emulator for play?

Please help me, since about a year ago i got the play. The first thing i looked for was a wad player since i love doom. I tried prboom and doomgles and they both sucked. Pr boom doesn't support the plays controller and doomgles is too f*king dark (can't see a darn thing) also can't 'reconfigure the controlers to suite and game datas simply won't download, so i'm stuck with doom demo on it.
So I am basically here to ask for a recommended doom wad player/emulator for my play out of desperation. I'm certain someone has a solution. I'm so disappointed with all these android doom ports
FPse?
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
:/ well i decide to settle with doomgles. i fixed the darkness, got the data to finally download manually, also fixed a problem where objects were disapparing. Still cant seem to get custom wads to work. but for now doomgles would have to do since it seems to be the best for gingerbread.
If thinking about using an ICS rom or above Doom Touch can be mapped to hardware and out of all the ports i think its the most clean and fast choice you can choose.
Doom Touch - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beloko.doom&hl=en
Other ports available on the market for Gingerbread (Can't say if any good as not tested)
DoDoom - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bakateam.andoom
PrDoom - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bestapp.prboomdoom
Retroarch Multi Emulator (Doom PrDoom Engine) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.retroarch
There are a few non market ports which have either been taken down by Google (When Google had a moan and took down ports and emulators like the iods) or never made it to market in the first place. If find any in my collection i will edit my post.
hope this helps

Thank you very much. I wish i could try doom touch, but alas I'm on Ginger Bread.
Never tried Dodoom, so i will give it a werl.
I sent an email to the Doom touch developer asking him:
"I really love the look of your Prboom Plus port and was wondering if you had any plans to support Ginger Bread devices like the xperia play in the future."
He replied by saying:
"Hi,
Probably not to be honest, GB does not natively support gamepads, and a lot of GB devices would struggle to play the apps.
I may do a special release for older versions of Android after I finish my other projects.
Best Regards,
Beloko"
I really wish for an awesome wad emulator like his on GB. The xperia play is starting to show it's age.

[Q] Help setting up a brand new Xperia Play for my daughters birthday pls :)

My daughter (13) being a playstation fan....saw the "playstation phone" somewhere and had a fit for it. I had to look up what she was talking about and strangely....I had never seen or heard of the Xperia Play. I found an unopened brand new Verizon (r800x) and bought it for her. Her birthday is next month and I am wanting to get this thing set up for her. I didnt realize that Sony had stopped support for this phone...so I cant even update from the stock android version This will be her first phone, and I think she will absolutely love it....but I need some help getting it updated please.
I have the phone set up and activated on Page Plus. I have read and read and read on the different roms and kernels etc. and TBH...it is all greek to me lol. I have never rooted a phone...used a custom rom or kernel etc. So I am hoping that some of you awesome peeps could help me out a little and help put a huge smile on my little girls face .
I noticed that several roms overclock the processor and up the screen res to 720p. That would be awesome to have since she will game the crap out of it lol. Of course I want all of the functions of the slide out controller to work...like the touch sensors etc. and also the wifi, camera etc. because well...shes a teenager. I also have Themer on my S3 and she LOVES messing with it and I am not sure if its possible for it to work on the Play even with a custom rom etc.
If any kind soul would mind telling me which rom etc would be the best to use for this, and also help me with getting it all installed and set up etc. I would GREATLY appreciate it!! Thanks so much!
HBD to your daughter
Hi, it's amazing, our loved xplay will never die .
First of all, if you have your bootloader unlocked then you are ready to choose (see point #2) then flash a rom (see point #3), if not then give a look to THIS for web unlocking for R800x (may work) or THIS it should work for R800x too but roms must be for R800x, you can search on each rom post to see if that rom are compatible.
Lets think about gaming and stuff, if you think your daughter will use it to play heavy games instead social stuff and multitask is not a problem then GingerBread is the best option, if you think she will be a casual gamer and will want multitask and other cool "new" stuff then ICS, Jellybean is not an option since you said that you want touchpads and jellybean has no functional touchpads.
In both GB and ICS you will able to record on 720p and Overclock your device and i recommend to O.C up to 1.6GHz with a Lupus Kernel.
Now, i have tested a several roms and kernels and i'll list those which i think are the best.
GINGER BREAD
Gin2KitKat very good UI, good for gaming and social
AuroraPlay simple UI, very good for gaming (the best i think)
ICE CREAM SANDWICH
GAMING HYBRID simple UI, light and good for gaming
ICS Original original Sony Ericsson UI, good for gaming and social
Xperia Play ZXperia Z UI(the best i think), very good for gaming and social
As i said before, you must see if the rom is compatible for R800x since almost all of them are for R800i.
As a matter in fact i'm using Xperia Play Z with DoomKernel at 1.6GHz and i think its the best of the best
Hope i was helpful, i'm sorry for my bad english. Good luck. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks SO much for your help She will game of course but I think the ICS would suit her better. After writing this...i read some more....and some more lol....anyway I found the sony unlocking website...and unfortunately I dont have the "bootloader status" option so it says I cant unlock it
I would love to set it up exactly like yours is, since it seems you really like it . Is there a workaround for the bootloader problem?
Thanks again for your help!
Well...I got the bootloader unlocked
I wanted to use the Xperia Play Z rom that you mentioned...but it doesnt seem to be a r800x rom Can anybody recommend a ICS rom and kernel for the r800x please?
Try Hybrid
GAMING HYBRID has a CDMA (r800x) version :highfive:.
Actually you can flash any R800i ICS ROM but you will not have network but wifi, just to try maybe .
May you should pm Markphyton to know if the Xperia Play Z rom will be ported ro r800x in near future, meanwhile try Hybrid Gaming its UI is not as ugly as you may think, is stable and light, give it a chance.

Want Controller in Minecraft
I am setting up an Xperia Play for my daughter as well, and two more for my sons, only we have the CDMA version. So far I have tried CyanogenMod 9.1 and Xperia Play Z. In both of them, the controller functionality is just junk in Minecraft. Both Softsticks operate the same functions as the D-Pad on the left, leaving no good way to get around without constantly touching the screen. Additionally, on both ROMs, the only way I could get the option to play worlds locally was to copy them over from other devices, only then did the New and Edit buttons show up, and they still go missing most of the time.
So my question: Would anyone like to give an example of a specific custom ROM which gives them good controller performance in Minecraft? I would prefer Android 4.0 or better so I could recover from the kids changing the PIN(also, using PINs) to something they don't remember, and using phone location from within the Play store, otherwise I might have stuck with Stock in the first place.
Update: After trying Gaming Hybrid, I am mystified as to how it made the recommended list at all, and... I'll stop right there because that's the most positive thing I have to say about it. ICS Original gave me no controller love in Minecraft either, but even though it tried to set default language to Chinese it was at least stable during its four-minute eval.
