This really isn't for me but a customer of mine. He just recently purchased the dash and was trying to set up 3 gmail accounts on it. He had someone else set up two of his accounts and they are working fine. He came to me to set up his 3rd account when tech support couldn't get it. Everything is set up right but whenever you hit send receive it tries to log in and then pops up with the username and password. So I delete all his gmail accounts on his phone and started with the one we couldn't get to work. First time it worked right away, so I tried to put the other two back on. It seems what is happening is whatever the 3rd gmail I try to put on there won't work.
So does anyone know of a glitch that 3 gmail account will not work on the same phone?
Recently Gmail asked for the username/pass on my Mac too. It's a Gmail bug, not the Dash.
Is anyone else having problems with Gmail push? My emails are suppose to update "as they arrive", but my emails are updating hours behind schedule if the update at all. I tried removing the activesync entry then re-adding it, but that didn't help.
Anyone else having problems?
I've seen gmails sync service quit working a few times since I've started using it (the day it went live for email), but it never stayed down for more than a few hours.
That said, it is working fine for me today (email only).
Something is definitely wrong...I just sent an email from my Yahoo account to my gmail account. Waited a few minutes and it never showed up. Went to my inbox, hit "send/receive" and it still doesn't show up. But it shows up perfect in gmail on the web.
My test email finally showed up....sent at 11:53am and showed up on my phone at 12:33...40 minutes for a push email...WTF?

Another Exchange-related bug. Any ideas?
A couple of users are finding that emails they've sent from the Desire are remaining in the outbox and the recipient is getting multiple copies of the email. For example, my boss sent me a meeting invite just before the weekend and he was slightly aggrieved to have received 50 copies of my acceptance, come Monday!
I had noticed that my acceptance was stuck in the outbox and had attempted to sync many times before I just deleted the outgoing item in disgust. Well it turns out that the mail app was sending okay but not deleting once sent.
This is happening with ordinary message replies too. I have not yet discovered a common theme. Anyone else had similar problems?
This is happening with Exchange 2003 SP2.
Just bumping this back to the front page... I wonder if we could do with a sub-forum for email issues?!
Hi Rob - SouthBarn back again. I am having very similar problems. Can receive but can't send. Emails are stuck in outbox and I get multiple "cannot send" notifivations. Don't actually get the multiple sends though?
Thought I'd solved the earlier problem by deleting and re-instating the acount on the Desire, but that dodn't work this time around.
I also have Exchange Server 2003 R2. Driving me nuts! Orange UK don't seem to be able to help.
Also have intermittent data connctions problems. Have tried the Modaco APN settings but they don't seem o help with the connection. If anything its worse.
Southbarn again. Just noticed a very small discrete error messeage on the desire if you try to force a sync on the following page:
(menu button) > settings > Accounts & sync >Exchange Active Sync
If hit the "sync now" button and it fails to send an email (which is does!) there is an error message just above the "sync now" button:
"there were some socket errors while connecting to the server"
This is a clue but how to resolve...?
Sounds like a protocol error - probably another poor implementation by Google/HTC.
I'm trialing TouchDown - so far so good.
Outbox now working - why?
Wierd thing happened. I downloaded Touchdown as you had done to see if there was a way out of the problem, and lo and behold, the Exchange Active Sync app start working again - an email that had ben sitting in my outbox for days suddenly became sent. Coincidence?
Still working 24hrs later on both apps on wifi and 3G
Will continue to monitor and report.
Would like to know what is going on. Would prefer the on board app to work properly than use 3rd party.

The (non-free) Touchdown Exchange client does not have this problem. I don't know if HTC or Google is planning to fix the fault in the stock mail app any time soon.
Alright, I used gmail, but I also have an old SBC Global account that I still keep up with on my phone through the mail program. When I initially set the account up on the phone, it will download all the email at that time, but through-out the day I am not receiving any new email. I know that I'm receiving email because when I get on my PC and check my email, I have tons waiting for me. I'm not sure why my phone isn't syncing them. I have hit the refresh button over and over and the little circle arrow turns and then stops with the time on the side like it checked for mail, but I'm not getting anything. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks
Give us some more details, like what ROM you're using.
Can you send messages from the SBC account?
Does the SBC account use Yahoo? (Back when I had SBC, they did, and from what I know, Yahoo doesn't play well with anything except their own ad-laden website.)
saw this on a phone at the store...I cleared the email data from manage app settings, deleted acct and set up again using yahoo smtp and pop servers and everything went smoothly. saw him three weeks later and he was still up and running. hope that helps

I'm using myn 's warm Rom which has never given me trouble before. Upon initial setup everything will down load correctly, but when it syncs later I get nothing. I know that it uses an android.IMAP setting, maybe switching to pop3 is the only way. It's just weird that its all of a sudden now. Maybe yahoo changed stuff on theory end.

Am I the only one who's disenchanted with the Gmail app on Android? I was hoping it would be better with my Nexus, but nothing has changed.
It doesn't seem like true push. If I set Gmail up as an exchange account in the mail app, it receives my e-mail and notifies me within seconds of sending a test message. The Gmail app randomly notifies me within about 15 minutes or so. Call me anal, but I like to receive my e-mail as soon as possible (sometimes it's important) and I don't see why there's a delay on the official Gmail app.
I know this has been an ongoing issue for some time with Android and my co-worker claims that he's perfectly happy just using the Gmail app, but my experience is that the Email client receives e-mail faster and that's important to me.
I've been using the gmail app for a while on 4 different devices (N1,G2,Sensation,GNex), and I've never noticed more than a couple second lag receiving emails. I have noticed something since 4.0.4 or possibly the latest gmail update. When I mark an email as read on my computer, the notification no longer clears itself on my phone. I have to manually clear it.
It can be strange, and in some cases frustrating. More often than not, my emails come really quick (as they should). There has been a few occurances where an email was delayed by several hours.
And it does seem as though the mail app works better than the gmail app for push email.
Edit: I only use the gmail app, but have used the mail app in the past.
Never had more than a 30 second delay personally.
See, my co-worker swears he doesn't notice a delay either, but I have tested it over and over. When I have notifications on for both the default e-mail client and Gmail, I will get a notification immediately from the e-mail client and nothing from Gmail. More troubling, when I open Gmail, the e-mail is not there yet. It's like it's on periodic check, instead of push.
Currently, I have notifications turned off for the Gmail app and use it to sync everything, then have Gmail set up as an exchange account and only have it pulling in e-mail (no contacts or calendar). It still seems a tad redundant, but its' the only way to ensure that I get my e-mail reliably.
I've not noticed any delay with using the app.

No delays here either. I relay email from POP3 accounts to Gmail for the push functionality and it works flawlessly.
All good here too. Matches my desktop Gmail timing. Btw I love the Gmail app its the best damn email experience I've ever seen on a phone, I use it constantly.
I can't be the only one having this issue. Is it possible that no one here knows any different simply because they haven't tried it as an exchange account through the regular e-mail app? Again, I have had this issue on pretty much every Android phone I have owned. And I can duplicate it any time.
Would anyone care to add Gmail as an Exchange account through the e-mail app and then send themselves a test message? Let me know if you get it in both apps around the same time. In my case, it shows up instantly in the e-mail app and won't show up for several minutes in the Gmail app unless I push the sync button manually.
i've noticed delays too. really frustrating because i have no idea what can be done about it...

Nothing that I know of, because it only seems to affect a small percentage of users. I can find a few posts on the internet with other users complaining about the same issue, but most people who reply say they have no problem (just like this post). It makes me wonder if I created a completely new Gmail account and tied it to my phone, if I'd get e-mail instantly on that account.
Unfortunately, that's not an option. I've had this address for years.
How long is your delay, less than a minute? I send myself a test email from my corp work email and it comes thru in less than a minute.

The delay varies. Sometimes it's instant, other times it's anywhere from a 5-15 minute delay. I always get the e-mails instantly in the e-mail app when Gmail is set up as an exchange account.
The moral of the story is, it's not reliable. I can never count on getting my e-mail in a timely manner in the Gmail app.
Sign in to the Google Talk application and make sure you're always signed in. I believe that the gTalk-connection is used for push-messages, so if you're signed in into gTalk, push should work.
I also had the delay once, after I restored a backup of the gmail data after a factory reset(actually, yakjuxw -> yakju). I deleted the gmail data and re-configured it. That fixed the problem for me.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I have the gmail issue (won't ever recieve push email...have to manually sync) AND I cannot sign into GTalk from my phone.
I wish I could fix.
Sorry to revive a dead thread, but was there ever a resolution to this? I'm having the exact same problem on my HTC One X (AT&T).
Gmail or Gtalk delays are due to router (firewall issues). Just forward the necessary Google ports, and you'll be good to go.
