[Q] What am I to do... - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I am currently on contract with sprint until the end of next august. I was disappointed with the extended delay/final build of Froyo for this thing, and still trying to play the usuall waiting game on Gingerbread right now. My Epic i currently still "pure" and not rooted. I really don't want to risk Rooting it, but at this point I feel I should. I've been researching this for a while now but all I could come up with were very old articles, build roms, belated possible dates & info on the epic touch. Only thing I could get out of contacting sprint some time ago was the usuall "it's coming soon" I'm not the patient type.
So...you think I should quit my risk full induced hesitancy and root my phone then and there, or simply be stuck with froyo and keep playing the waiting game (If they don't decide to abandon releasing the build in favor of sticking with the new 4.0 /GSII lines).

I've got to say that for me the upgrade from Eclair to Froyo made a huge improvement in my Epic. I've rooted the phone so I can run various backup and and adblocker apps, but every time I try custom Froyo ROMS I end up going back to stock because of some odd problem or crash or something that doesn't work.
Right now I'm trying the Gingerbread EH17 leak with the source code compiled kernel, which is the most stable Gingerbread I've found. Is it better than Froyo? Yeah. Is it a lot better? nope. On a scale of 1 to 10,the upgrade from Eclair to Froyo went from 5 to 8, the upgrade to Gingebread takes it to 9. Graphics are a bit smoother, there are a few more options on some apps, Video calling is supported. Nothing to get too antsy about.
By the way, rooting Froyo is easy using the one-click method. Rooting Gingerbread requires using Odin right now, which makes it possible to brick the phone by checking the wrong options, although just reading the instructions carefully should make it pretty safe.

If you waited this long, you might as well wait for the Gingerbread OTA...who knows maybe you'll be the first to get it! Wasn't Castro08 the first to get EC05 OTA? You'll be instantly famous

There is really no disadvantage to rooting your phone. There is a program called odin which you can return your phone back to 2.2 android. To root your phone all you have to do is copy a few files to your sd card and run a .bat or .sh (windows or linux) .
Rooting your phone puts you in control. You can remove programs that bug you or keep starting on there own. You could also put on a different rom. If you need more help let us know.

Wait it out. You're really not missing out on much. just a different version name and color scheme to be honest. So unless you got some girl at home waiting for you to wow her with a phone that's running GB. Take a number, sit back and worry about bigger things in life.

+1, gingerbread is a little better than froyo, but nothing overly awesome about it. Cm7 (gingerbread) is pretty *****in, but u can do that from ec05...

Ok first of all don't be afraid of rooting
2nd if you want out of your contract DO NOT TAKE NO for an answer from them! after the crap ass GPS on DI18 & more crap with EB13 & the camera not working right, I got out of my contract with sprint.
You just have to get past the "gate keeper" thats the first & some times the second person you get on the phone. All you have to do is start talking **** (with out cussing ) to them about the "crappy updates" & if they try & blame samsuck then you go into the fact that there NAME "SPRINT" is plastered on the fount of the dam phone & if there name is on something then they need to own up & take responsibility

Yikes. Is there a safe FROYO build out there

I tried the Cyanaogen Froyo build and it keeps locking up, so I have to keep pulling my battery to restart I think the killer was when I followed someones guide for tweaking the ADW launcher.
Currently there aren't any ROMs out there that are stable and full working. I do know that Cyanogen is going to finish his ROM soon, which will be exciting. But, I like HTC sense so DamageControl is going to come out the a Froyo ROM including sense as well. They will be releasing their ROM soon (In the bout 2 weeks, maybe less). There has been a delay since the main developer for DC broke his phone when he let his wife have it (never trust women with phones ) I am looking foward to flash both of them!

Uhm...the Cyanaogen build is still going through nightly build phases. This is not even a ready for prime time build and you seem freaked out that it doesn't work. I totally support all the guys running this thing the evening it was released...but that's not me.
I will wait a few weeks till they have an official release thread.
Love the idea of this, but I am not an early adopter and that is what Froyo is...early adopter status/level. They only just recently started pushing 'official' versions to phones...so to expect the volunteer devs to have one ready is kind of unreasonable.
If you want earlier adopter stuff....have fun...but it could do what you experienced. Just don't expect final stuff so quick...heck the phones have been out what...~5weeks now???

I'm not freaked out. And I doubt it his ROM rebooting my phone as much as it is something with SetCPU not being updated for 2.2 or some other app. I am back on Damage and I do like the HTC Sense apps that just work. I am looking forward to Damage's version of Froyo.

What will Sprint/Samsung do?

Ok, so with the issues that EB13 has, will Sprint just correct the issues and release EB13 again with the fixes or will it be a new update? Maybe just some patches? IDK! Does anyone know how they will go about doing this?
Im pretty sure it will have a different name.

That's a given since the name is indicative of when it was compiled.
Most likely we won't see any kind of fix before the 20th at the earliest, and if it doesn't come before April then it's probably never coming and we will be SOL like the Moment users who were stuck with a ridiculously buggy 2.1 with no support from Samsung/Sprint.
Hmm well good point guys. Would you suggest running EB13 with the patched kernel(s) and/or a custom ROM? I'm looking for something stable and plan on using it for a while...

Yea I was looking into either one of those, but what about the EB13 data and sd card issues? Also the bugs that are currently in both roms? I've heard Truly Epic v3 is extremely stable.
Theyll just take Frozen or Bonsai or ACE, slap some Sprint footprints here and there to make it their own, remove OC from the kernels and make it their official release.

LOL, na then that would have happen months ago!
Once they put out a product, they only update it in response to mass outrage. Google keeps popping out updates and the manufactures and carriers can't slap bloatware on fast enough, so they lose incentive to update at all. They clearly don't focus their efforts as hard as these wonderful developers do! But why would they? They're hoping you'll get so frustrated that you'll move on to their next, barely-improved device!

SO TRUE, exactly what i have been sayin. I really dont even think we will see gingerbread, and if we do that will most likley be it for this failure of a phone. If it wasnt for custom roms and all the hard work around here i would have taken my epic back to the ****ing sprint store and threw it at the lying rep that sold it to me.
Same here. This phone has so Mich.potential that it will never see. Yeah the developers here are amazing but it would help them.out so.much.if Samsung gave.more support. If it wasn't for our developers I wouldn't have this phone right now.

I first used Bonsai 3.0 and restored everything using Titanium Backup and had FC's and data problems.
I Odined back to Stock EB13 Extended and then reflashed Bonsai 3.0.1 and DID NOT restore via TB rather just installed everything I needed from the Market and synced all my contacts back, and Bingo. Everything is flawless... I mean flawless. I have not had ONE FC or data problems. I even got Wifi Tether 3.0 Pre-11 working great! (Haven't used it long enough to see if it crashes, only two days so far with spans of 2 hours at a time)
I think thats what's causing many problems with current flash junkies; they flash so much that they rely on backups like TB or even NANDROID backup that sometimes all they need is a fresh install of EVERYTHING.
I hope this helps
This phone was decent out of the box, but no huge improvement over many of the other android phones... But after Midnight and Bonsai and Syndicate roms, it's many times better than any stock phone out there! Granted, the same is true for most of the top phones once given their own custom roms... but I bought this one. And my only regret is that I can't take half that money back and give it to K0nane and the others for doing Sprint and Samsung's work for them!
EC05 was actually great (if you were lucky to catch it the week it was released, if not, it is on this forum somewhere.) The only reason I rooted was to delete some apps, to overclock, and to try out 2.3.3. I can't wait until CM7 is done. I currently use Red Beast with the new Genocide kernel. I have overclocked it to 1.12 Ghz and undervolted it to 1200 mV (the amount of energy used at the stock 800 mhz. It is extremely fast and saves me tons of battery. So if you are done messing around with sprint, start making your phone your own.

Anyone else feel like the phone ran better stock?

Maybe its just me, but when I first got the phone I had no problems.. Now after rooting and flashing custom roms I get random freezes, crazy battery drain and the infamous LOS.. and contrary to popular belief it has something to do with root.. I didn't root my phone or anything for at least a week after having it and none of the problems started until after.. Most people are having are probably having the same issues but since members on here always want to bite your head off anytime you say something they don't agree with, noone says anything. Im just making an observation and if you don't like it, feel free to hit the back button anyways, anyone feel the same way? BTW this isn't a rant against the developers. They are all great and I appreciate all the hard work.. I just feel like theres a missing link or something causing the problems.. what are ypur thoughts

Mine ran great fresh out the box for sure, but thats also because it was fresh and had no apps installed etc lol.
Some roms seem to work better than others. Running Starbust 1.2 with zedo's 4.1 kernel and it's running absolutely great now, better than unrooted IMO.
Could be grass in greener on the other side syndrome, try unrooting and see if you still feel that it runs better stock. With ODIN it's pretty quick and easy to jump back from rooted to not and back again.
I will always be rooted because I love trying out new things and custom roms and overclocking/undervolting etc.. it's fun, like a hobby for sure. And sometimes that hobby especially with beta stuff isnt that stable lol!
Just having adfree and wifi tethering is more than enough reason for me to root. But when the really cool custom roms start coming out, it's gunna be on like donkey kong
I did run a rooted rom with the stock kernel, and I have to say I like zedo's better.
My 2 cents

I'm running stock + root.
There's nothing even remotely interesting to me in the current incarnations of the 3-4 roms available - they are all stock+ mods+ bugs.
Thank you very much but I can install those mods myself.

My stock-rooted E4GT is working just fine. No LoS, no random reboots, no freezing up, no locking up... no bloat, great battery life, no BS.
I had a ton of issues with LOS and some random reboots on Zedomax's root kernel. Flashed to the stock + CMR and havent had an issue since.
I'll be serious now.
Aside from me disagreeing that root is the cause of LOS issues (I got them stock too) this is all part of the fun of modifying your gadgets.
Fun? Yeah, I said fun. These are insanely complex devices and it is still very early in their development cycle. If you aren't game then style out of it for a while until things mature. Hacking around ain't for everybody... As long as I maintain basic functionality I/we will (eventually) figure out the rest. That's the fun part.
That said I haven't experienced any of what you describe, besides a few unexpected FCs.

I agree that LOS is not caused by rooted kernal. But, I did experience LOS alot more often than stock kernal. When I got the phone I stayed unrooted for a little over a week. I experienced 2 LOS during that time period. Once I finally rooted I was experiencing LOS @ least 3 times a day. LOS also drains the battery like crazy. One night I left the phone off the charger with 100% battery life. When I woke up, the phone was in LOS and only had 40% battery life. Well, today last night I finally switched to stock kernal. So far today no LOS.
I digress. Stock rom works perfect but I needed so mods that require root. The battery percent mod, wireless tether, and roam control. I think I'll wait for an AOSP rom before I try anything different roms.
I've tried all the currently available kernals for ths phone. I've rooted and unrooted. Right now, i'm on stock rooted. I'm still experiencing LOS, but it seems less frequent than when I was on custom kernals. It could be other criteria, though. I haven't tried any of the ROMs, only because I want a stock ROM to flash, if something goes wrong. I don't remember the epic taking this long to get the stock ROM available to us. My memory may be slipping, though.

this is why I will wait another week or 2 before rooting....this phone is awe sum as stock, but, like any newly released phone, it takes a few weeks before all the truly revolutionary stuff gets developed.
Most devs have a real job, a family, and a real life, so you can't really expect flashing "nirvana" only a week or so after a phone comes out.

Samsung Galaxy S II
I'm stock since day 1, when the phone first released, and I get LOS once a day. It's killing me not to have root, but I am not modding unless there is a factory RUU available straight from Samsung. Personally, and to no discredit to the developers, I don't trust the stock rom pulled from another phone. This phone is just a bit too new for me to be permanently altering it without a 100% safe way back. The OG Epic was made almost unbrickable, so it's reasonable to assume that a year from now, we will be rolling like pigs in **** with cool stuff to flash.
But I get what you are saying, and honestly, the community did not explode like I thought it would. Seems to be more HTC fans these days then Samsung, and just judging from Samsung's post launch support, or lack thereof, I can understand why...
Furthermore, my 3G speeds were horrible day 1 and continue to suck balls. Most times at work I can't even browse the market because of timeouts. 4G seems to work good though, and that's the only reason I haven't just returned this phone yet.
Check this thread:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/76962?start=0&tstart=0
This is sprint's official forum, and they are just now admitting to the crappy radio implementation on this phone. Should have seen this coming a mile away, but honestly I was just too busy looking at this gorgeous 4.52" AMOLED+ screen to notice...
This is the first phone I've had were I don't feel the need to root, and I wouldn't have rooted until it had been perfected more.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
my main reason for rooting was a few apps i had that needed root. as well as the battery percentage

How you got into this...

Well i was sitting back wondering how i got into rooting phones and decided to post this, How did you guys get into modding, rooting phones and when you started?
Well i got into this just before i got my tablet, which was a coby kryos, and it wasnt very good and didnt have the android market, so i did some research and found a website, and proceeded to do this thing called rooting. after it was all said and done, i thought i was done messing around with the phone, but then i find out about this other OS that is android but runs a little better than the stock rooted OS. Called Cyanogen mod 7. followed the instructions and it worked. so i took it further and rooted my phone i had at the time, the intercept. Thus this addiction was formed.
Everyday i would look to see if there was an update for my phone. or a updated version of cm7. Once i found out that there wasnt really a big community for either the kyros or the intercept i decided to go to a galaxy phone. took my sisters upgrade and got the E4gT. and since then its almost been smooth sailing for rooting, etc.
Now i am to the point where i want to start developing roms and what not, just have to get the courage to start such a big project.
How did you guys start with this? Whats your story? Keep us occupied while we wait for source and leaks.
Well I started all the way back from the sony psp days, I was super desperate to play final fantasy 7 and wasn't willing to buy my 3rd ps2 just to play it and the thought of it being portable and play it anywhere is too good to pass up, then learned how to start flashing custom firmwares for it, then moved to jailbreaking ipod touches(yes I had three) but jailbreaking is annoying, i actually had to go leaps and bounds just to make it do what android is capable of as stock(play any videos format, flash content, download anything online, etc) so just decided to buy my first android the galaxy s fascinate(redhead step child of the galaxy s line) and now here
i went to sprint and i had the choise to get a I-SUCK OR A galaxyi got a galaxy never like apples i saw videos on youtube of people modding the galaxy so i gave a try and here im learning
well for started i almost bricked my phone the first day lol tell how i came here and i went to the galaxy s2 forum not epic 4g touch.. lucky i figure it out that i was in the wrong forum and i came here and use sfhub one click l29 since i follow his instruction never had a problem again...
My first android phone was the HTC Hero. It got a couple updates and the last one sucked. It was horrible. Phone was super laggy and froze all the time. By then Gingerbread was out and Spirit said the phone would not run it. Did some research here on XDA and found people running GB who said the phone was much faster and more responsive. Did a bunch more reading to make sure I knew what I was doing and flashed a GB Rom. It was much better and had all kinds of new features.
Had to run the stock rom on this phone for awhile, but as soon as I found an easy way to root and mod it (thanks Sfhub), I flashed a custom Rom and never went back. I doubt if I will ever use a stock Rom again. I'll be getting a GS3 in September and there will be many great Rom choices by then. No doubt I will root it the day I buy it.This thread was a good idea. Thanks
How i started rooting phones, thank the htc touch pro for that. Ive used developers talents to modify 4 different platforms ;windows mobile palm, apple (ipad) and now my second android

Started hacking and cracking years ago. Mostly on PC's and Linux based machines. Then saw this thing called Android sweeping the market. Then saw the galaxy s. I had to have it. So I got the Mesmerize. I took a few days to familiarize myself with it. Then hit the web and found XDA. It was on froyo so I used z4root to root it. Then I started reading all the stuff I could do to it. With the help of some great devs and nice people I was flashing away. We had a lot of great devs for that phone. The Mesmerize and Fascinate was like brother and sister. We could swap kernels and such. And the fassy devs was nice enough to do things for the mes too. It was an awesome first phone. Then got this thing and love it. The devs here are nice and do great work. I miss some of the old devs but some of them show up in here from time to time. Times and sbrissen are some. I miss it JT1134 but heard he quite development cause he didn't have the time. Anyway. I love android and couldn't imagine a better hobby.

Anyway. I love android and couldn't imagine a better hobby.

i think its a great hobby too. Even when im doing other hobbies, i seem to sneak away and go on premium and look around. i know theres flashaholics, well i think im more of a xdaholic.
and everytime i see people with android phones, i try to explain to them that they dont have full advantage of their phone, then i tell them to come here. most of them do some of them dont. This is a great community and the more the merrier. its always nice to be able to ask things about your phone with other people that have your phone. anyways continue...
I got into rooting devices during the Windows Phone days, with the HTC Touch Diamond. I remember the old days of roms kitchens and building roms, things will a little different back then.
I started with the original Samsung behold because I wanted free games and ever since then I can't stop lol

Ahh my HTC ppc 6700... Makes me feel old lol. Back when wm was the ****. I used to get stopped all the time by people asking me about my phone. And then when skyfire came out and we could watch flash videos. I use to show off.
Mightymike use to have the best roms. When he released roms his servers would crash. Nrg would come out with the latest and greatest for EVERY phone. Thats where sense started and always was memory hog. Back when xda was mainly a gsm website. Cdma people were all at ppcgeeks. I still see a few guys every now and then from ppcgeeks. Calkulins a legend. And ziggy, tsowen, santod with their themes. No2chem, conflipper, cmonex just to name a few. Lol
Sorry i was just reminiscing.

Sorry double post
I used to have a Motorola hint. Always tried to play games, but no luck. Started learning about unlocking and got Motorola phone tools. I was able to fix my phone after I thought I killed it sideloading music onto my sd card. After that, me and my honey got Ascends, and I wanted to be able to fix my phone if I did something...stupid. read a bunch on rooting and one day, I took the plunge. I was a little apprehensive about voiding my warranty, but loved being rooted and Rom'ed. Got my Ascend 2 in December and rooted that. Then my buddy gave me his old HTC mytouch3g Fender edition. That was a beast to root, but I finally got it. Just waiting to save up for a better phone now...must mod!!! That's my story.

How I got into this
I've been reading about flashing and rooting ever since I got an evo 4g 2 yrs ago. Upgraded to the evo 3d and it came with a defective screen. I Ordered a Epic touch 4g to replace it and I got tired of all the b.s. about ics and decided to root. I can't believe I waited so long to do it. The bottom line is a week ago I flashed my 1st Rom using Odin one click, thank u qbking77, sfhub, sextape, chainfire , and everybody else who helped. Now I'm running cm9 nightlies after trying stock ff02 and ff11 and couldnt be happier. Im hooked. I rooted my girls evo earlier (s off and all) just to quench my thirst for a new rom to play with. I got a little to used to holding an evo again and accidently walked out the door with it on my way to work, lol. She's probably looking all over for the phone right now! Sorry honey. Hopefully she checks her email or fb on the PC ( cant call her) and sees my messages b4 she ends up tearing the house apart.
I have always been messing with everything electronic since I can remember. My dad worked on PC's so they where always around. I started really getting into phones with my Samsung a900 back in 05. I made a website on my home server that it could go to so I could side load apps and ring tones to it. Then I went on to WM and it just never stopped.
i had the HTC hero and wanted live wallpaper but i couldn't on stock so i rooted and ended up running cm7

Yeah I've been working on computers since I was a little kid. I remember helping my dad build his comp. When I was like 8. So I've been into computers for awhile. But i never had a forum I went to as much as this one. Even right now as I wait to go to work I'm on here 3-4am. Fb doesn't even get this much attention. Lol continue...

I've always tinkered with electronics since I was little. Pissed my dad off a number of times taking apart computers and frying the HDD (didn't know static=bad day for a HDD when I was that little). I moved on to software from there. All of it is self taught the hard way or from the magic of Google. Eventually I got a Blackberry and started flashing "hybrid" setups on them until Android came out. My first Android was the MyTouch 3G Slide. I learned a lot from that phone before I moved to a G2. Overclocking a phone to 2GHz+ was just insane It was like having a nuclear reactor in my pocket. Now here I am. I've progressed to being able to decompile apk's, do what I want, and recompile a working app. We'll see what the future holds.
Good luck to every other aspiring dev on here. Don't get discouraged by any complexity or any trolls on here. I promise you're probably over thinking most things and trolls are just trolls.
Mytouch 3g. HTC decided to skip the 2.1 update and make me wait longer for 2.2 I took matters into my own hands. Thought I messed up when it got stuck at the splash screen. Turns out I missed the gapps file.(used to have to flash it before cm). After that all my phones were rooted within 24 hrs. G2,Mt4g, g2x, nexus s, and now my et4g. Unofficialy updated the dell streak 7 to honeycomb. And am currently trying to convince the gf that I won't turn the transformer prime into a $500 brick.

Man even ATT beat us -____-

how do we get 40 million leaks but no actual release yet? I guaran-darn-tee you effin sprint is waiting to launch the S3 before releasing ICS for the S II so more people will be inclined to buy a new phone :\ >_> <_<
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/20/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-on-att-gets-android-4-0/
Well considering the gs3 drops tomorrow, you would be right. But its not sprint alone holding it up, Samsung is trying to fix the brick bug in the kernel before releasing so they don't end up with 1 million bricked devices from performing a factory reset. Idk about you but I'd rather wait for something that works right and is stable than rush into something that could potentially destroy my device.

actually I work for sprint and we got a memo this morning that said the launch had been pushed back to next week. Dunno about pre orders, but the official launch for sprint stores wont be for a few days, atleast not in my area. And also I wasnt implying my wish for them to "rush", I just think its sad when att beats anyone at anything.

Notice 4.0.3? WE have 4.0.4...
FD26 was the best leak we had and was completely OTA worthy and it was 4.0.3 but they restarted with 4.0.4.
We most likely would've been the first if we stuck with .3 but it is what it is...

Preorders I think are still on time a friend of mine got his tracking number for his and it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow. The delay on the ICS was cuz they found the brick bug and it can even brick from a factory reset in settings so it wasn't safe to release into the wild yet, especially since it would be samsungs fault and they would have to eat the cost on every device bricked, that would be financial suicide since it affects even unrooted devices and sprints go to fix is a factory reset. Imagine how many bricks would pour in in the first few days alone, let alone the period of time it took to push out a fix for it. I'm not in a huge rush for the ota tho since I prefer AOSP, I just want the damn kernel source like NAOW. That's the only thing I'm impatient for. But for now I can survive, its not like we don't have plenty of development to hold us while we wait it will come soon enough, I'm just glad for once they aren't rushing out firmware with issues like the initial release of the et4g with the LoS bug. Samsung is actually trying to step up their development image and compete with other manufacturers a little more compared to previously. They have come a long way since I had the intercept, that thing was flaky as hell and never made it past froyo.

This too we are a build ahead of every carrier that has been released so far which is a big + cuz 4.0.4 fixed alot of issues wwith flash and web based video without patched in workarounds.

Even Gingerbread does provide basic functionality's that 4.0.4 of Sapplesung can not provide..I think Samsung had screwed big time again...Remember LOS etc and how long it took them to provide non solution? HTC already provided the solution to the issues people are facing

All ICS kernels so far have had the brick bug, its tied to MMC_erase_cap I believe is the string that causes the write error that damages the eMMC chip by writing to a partition that's not supposed to be written to.

After starting with the G1 I never buy any devices expecting anything as far as updates.
I'm rocking a 10.1 gt I bought on launch day. I've been running cm9 without a working camera for months.
I really don't understand the constant hand wringing over updates. The ICS ota will be here when its ready.
Its not like this phone just launched and it's going to be stuck on GB.
We have an outstanding development community that is providing us with a plethora of ROMs.
Most of the people clamoring for source just want a signature that says, "Rockingasupercoolkernelbro."
AT&T and T-Mobile have a 4.0.3 update with many of the same or more bugs. Who cares?
Our update will be here when it's ready. Enjoy the leaks and tremendous ROMs that we are lucky to have for the time being.
If the current kernels aren't giving you enough display time then invest in a spare battery and reevaluate what's important in your life.

Only reason Im waiting for source is for recovery so I can stop all the extra steps of odining el26 just to backup/restore, or try a new rom, flash a mod etc. Its just getting kind of annoying having to do 4 or so extra steps just to use recovery :banghead:

I've been running ICS since mid march, I tried going back to GB a few times and just couldnt do it. I'm running aokp with on-screen nav bar and the soft keys disabled, just couldn't handle the things missing in GB after all this time on AoKP. And I've had 0 bugs since about April when i started modifying aokp myself off of TCPs ports. Hell I haven't rebooted my device in 2 weeks since the last time I flashed a new build.

I couldn't stand the lack of a 4g toggle when I tried it. Otherwise it seemed like a solid ROM. I'm just picky. There's usually just one thing that makes me go back to GB.

Ehh I don't have 4g in my area and where I get 4g I'm not there much so going to network settings to turn it on isn't a huge deal for me. Although if i had 4g I'd probably just make a shortcut to the setting with anycut or something similar. I'm pretty picky too that's why whenever I try to go back to GB a few small things missing make it seem so lacking even tho they are minor things, like the webos recent apps, the customization of the dropdown and lockscreen and a few other little settings/customizations that I always seem to crave when I'm on GB. I go back to a GB backup every now and then to update prl and profile and i can never stay on more than an hour or so b4 I'm running back to one of my AOkP backups
