ya ya, this should have been first. but we all wanted to play. but anyway here it is now.
this is the stock rom post OTA. added root (su and superuser.apk) as well as modified ramdisk (ro.secure=0) and busybox. Also zip aligned apps to optimize ram usage. there is odex (stock) and de-odex versions.
*i no longer see the reason for needing the pre-OTA rom. if you have a reason post up and we'll see what happens...
if you are upgrading from previous version of THIS rom you should not have to wipe, however you will still need to redo any system changes you have made, i.e. trackpad wake or notification lights.
Stock OTA kernel is now INCLUDED in rom flash. however if you want to flash an oc/uv/whatever kernel follow that post's instructions after this rom is up and running. i suggest pershoots kernels. been using his since the g1, awesome work. his g2 one has great performance AND battery life.(for me anyway)
These roms are g2 and dz compatible.
Cwm recovery recomended for ease and function.
1. Place stock rom of your choice on root of sdcard.
2. Boot into recovery
3. Do a nandroid backup.
4. Do a full wipe. (if coming from different rom)
5. Select flash zip from sd and select stock rom.
6. Once its finished, reboot and enjoy.

OTA de-odex: http://www.4shared.com/file/vi77pxvT/ota_deodex_v11.html
OTA bootv2 (kernel): http://www.4shared.com/file/y2NVlbJm/ota_boot_v2.html
*(only needed if you flashed a different kernel after the version 1.1 rom and want to go back to stock kernel. includes wifi module.)
pershoots's kernel:

theme template: http://www.4shared.com/file/VwINHT_r/theme_template.html
*theme template is for theme dev's only. it should be universal for any rom. just place the themed framework and/or apps in corresponding folders. i have a .txt file in the folders as a place holder, delete it after you add your themed stuff. take a look at the update script to see how it works, and to add or remove anything you need to...
change log:
v1.1:
fixed permissions and mismatched symlink issue w/busybox. (thanks to Mikey1022 for bringing this prob to my attn.)
v1.0:
initial release
Awesome thanks!! Do we have to flash a separate kernel if coming from Sense, and if so, do you have the stock kernel in a flashable .zip? Thank you in advance,
Russ
Nice work! good to have a base Rom to fall back on but why do we need three Roms for stock? why not just deodex the stock Rom with the OTA applied and be done with it? less work for you, right? I know this is quicker and will help folks who have boot looped/ soft bricked their phones. either way, good job and thanks!
Can I just remove the odex files along with the bloatware apk files from my current rom? I know they are both located in the systems/app folder.

You need to wipe when going from rom to rom. Get cwm recovery and follow my instructions above.

I have already wiped via stock recovery - both data/ settings and cache
I can't boot into the phone (ie the part where u have the home screen etc). Keep getting stuck at the htc quietly brilliant screen. Phone will keep looping here
Can I still install clockwork recoverY (cwm)? If yes, how? If no, what can I do to get my phone back to normal
I'm goin' crazy here lol
I need clearer instructions. What do I rename this file to? When I go into hboot how do I load said file up?
I renamed it pc10img.zip, didn't work.

I tried a search but didn't find much of any relevance to my Arc's problem.
My Arc was getting quite laggy so I decided to wipe and put a custom ROM on. I rooted, then unlocked the bootloader and managed to put on CWM using DoomLord's kernel. Everything fine up until here.
Then, mistakenly, I tried to put stable CM7 on without updating the stock ROM. I was still on 3.0 (2.3.3) something. Well, after that it got stuck in a boot loop with the SE and CM7 logos just coming up and restarting.
I then tried the Flashtool with a stock uptodate 4.0 something firmware. It flashed successfully, but it still was stuck in the loop, albeit now without the CM7 logo. I then tried the FTA unbricking tool for repairing the trim area but it still stayed in the boot loop.
What else can I do? Maybe there is a driver problem and that is why even after using Flashtool it still doesn't boot?
I would be very grateful if someone could help me on this.
You have to flash FXP's kernel and not DooMKernel.
But I also tried to flash a stock rom and that didn't work also.
EDIT: I flashed stock ROM again, still didn't boot. Installed DoomLord kernel and then arconium and it still doesn't boot.
EDIT 2: In CWM Recovery if I try to wipe data, it says this:
"E:format_volume: no MTD partition "userdata"
Has anyone got a fix for this?
It would be much appreciated.
can you charge your phone now?
Yep, I can charge the phone.
it means your kernel is still working....
then have it fully charged, then try to flashing again.
some tips:
1. always have latest flashtools
2. always have your phone fully charged b4 flashing.
3. proceed flashing carefully. if u miss one thing, then trouble come.
4. have cache and dalvik cache cleaned after flashing a kernel or Rom.
good luck mate...

No luck with previous firmwares so I'll try to flash the latest .62 stock ROM and then see.
I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks!
Well lads, I managed to get it working by flashing the LT18i firmware (4.0.2.A.0.42_CE). Now I just need to go back to the drawing board and try to get CM7 on there.
Thanks for all the help! I'll update this thread with any experiences.
I've managed to do it. Installed latest .62 firmware, flashed CM7 kernel, flashed 7.2 ROM and then GAPPS.
I don't know why it took me two days to bring the phone back from the dead.

I followed the instructions too, though they are not so much noob-friendly (and neither are the people on the forums, it seems...). FXP is not responding (actually, they rarely respond to anything, they usually just post when new release is out), other people either don't know how to fix it, because they haven't experienced such issues, or they are just hostile because you're "a an annoying noob". Anyway... first time after trying to flash 64 baseband on 107 or 106 release, I got stuck on logo, then flashed back to .42 and it worked. Now, while updating to 108, I tried to flash the 64 libraries and patch, but it didn't work. Got back to .42, but this time nothing happened. Still stuck on logo. And when I try to restore data, it says:
E:format_volume: no MTD partition "userdata"
Error while formatting /data!
I think I'll go back to stock... love CM, but hate the poor/no help of the developers...
try these
flash new firmware using flashtool.
after flash.turn on your device.
enable uknown source n usb debug
then turn off your fon
flash baseband 64
then turn on your fon
put fxp108 updated-kang,gaps,baseband 64 libs on your memory card,
then turn off your fon
flash fxp kernel fastboot flash boot boot.img
after flash turn on your fon..go to recovery
formated factory reset, wipe cache, clear dalvik cache, wipe betry stats..
flash update cm7.update.zip,gaps.zip,baseband64libs.zip
reboot your fon..wait 2 or 3 mint..done
My thanks goes to you. I was hoping to avoid full wipe, but I don't care anymore, since I brought my phone back to life. I skipped these steps, though:

This is the link to the stock 4.0.2.A.0.42.. flash it using flashtool.. http://www.multiupload.com/W3B7BOKUXQ
Everything you need for flashing FXP is on his signature, including bb .64 (to be flashed with flashtool - doesn't erase a thing).. then download FXP (latest is 108) and inside the zip file you'll see boot.img, which contains the special kernel (to be flashed using fastboot, not flashtool).
Also there's no dark screen bug in the latest releases, certainly not in FXP 107 and 108, which I'm using now.
Please help!

Hey, this is my first post on here. I am new to android and just got an arc a few days ago. Even before i got it i was trying to figure out how to mod it. I am reasonably good at computers but a lot of the stuff i read on these forums is beyond me.
I have done my best to root and install CM7 on my arc but i have failed yet again.
I finally got it rooted and was all happy until when i tried to install CM7, all i can get to is the boot screen, but although the little android on the skateboard is very cool, i wish i could get it going!
So because I dont really understand the list of instructions you posted in this quote, i was hoping you could kind of translate into noob-speak. I still dont feel like i completely understand 'flashing'. In your instructions you say to "flash baseband 64" and that is the main point where I am stuck i think. Do you use a certain program (flashtool?) for this? or do it through a terminal window on the PC.
Also links to all the files mentioned would be awesome, its hard to find proper links with multiupload down and that kind of thing. Also with the rate this kind of tech evolves, things get outdated to quickly.
Please help! At the moment i have (i think) successfully returned my arc to the stock firmware using flashtool. Although i did this twice because i re-tried flashing CM7 and failed again. And the second time i couldnt seem to select LTI5i as the device to flash too, but LTI8i is what i used and it appears to have worked. So any help with that little conundrum would also be appreciated!
Cheers for any help given, I am so desperate to get this mod going as i have spent a solid 10+ hours trying already.
your bootloader unlock?right?
which kernel u use right now?
@tehknowitallnoob, I can lead you through the whole flashing process, if you want to, but only on Friday after around 9 pm GMT +1, since I don't have the time to do it earlier.

Try this:
Reflash back to stock ROM with a flashtool.
Then again flash the cm7 or try cm9

Ok, so basically i have just gone ahead and followed these steps for flashing cyanogenmod:

Please, somebody help me!!!! I am really scared that i may have bricked my phone, if i can do anything to get it running again, i would be so happy. Please help
did you flash the CM kernel? and CM recovery comes with the kernel..you dont need to install it separately..

Alright first thing first. Which version of CM are you trying to flash? And where you downloaded it from?
---------- Post added at 04:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 AM ----------
Ok we will come to flashing ROMs later lets first get you to boot your phone so that you can use it and not be scared. Whatever you have messed up, flashing the phone with flashtool and official FTF would make it normal. I hope you know how to do it. Google around and you can find flashtool. Get it installed to you PC then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314 and download the ftf file and flash it using flashtool. Then your phone will be back up and running. Once its done. Come back here and tell me. Ill help you with flashing ROMs.
@ arpith.fbi
Yes i flashed a boot.img that came with the CM9 zip file, but that is all.
@ gnirujan
I am flashing CM9, and i got it from the downlaods section of the CM website.
I have also downlaoded flashtool but im not sure how to flash the FTF file. By the way, that file is for LT18i, and i have a LT18a. Would it matter?
Thanks for the replies
also gnirujan,
I checked that FTF file, and its 370mb. Is it the full firmware? If it is, i will flash it but if there is a way to continue with the cyanogen flashing, i would love to avoid downloading that ftf.
P.S. LANKAN PRIDEEE!!!!
ok first tell me during startup do u see boot logo? or any logo?
When i boot up, all i see is a lit up black screen with nothing on it
Flash the attached boot.img which is the FXP CM9 kernel from this site, then install the zip.
Ok, thanks, i will try it.
That didn't work either , did the same thing as the other.
I have managed to flash a stock ics ftf file, and i have finally rooted my phone. Now i want to try Rom manager instead to install, but when i go to install Clockwork mod recovery, it says stuff about my phone not currently being officially supported.
Any ideas?

Your boot loader is unlocked right? You wanna install Cynogenmod 9 right? You dont install the one from cyanogenmod site. It has a non working kernel. In XDA there are these guys called FXP (Free Xperia Project) they are the ones responsible for CM for all Xperia devices. So do this. Go tho this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356685 download the CM9 RC 1 FXP 128. Its a 130MB file. Download it and now extract it and flash that boot.img to your Arc S using fastboot. Now start your phone and you should see FXP boot screen then from there go to recovery and try flashing the CM9 RC 1 you have. That should work. I suggest if you can replace the CM9 you have in your memory cad with the FXP128 zip its better so that you can flash the latest FXP128 CM 9, which has lots of improvements.
Edit: Arc S and Arc same ZIP its called anzu

Allright as far as i know there are two ways you can get CMW installed on your phone. 1. Download CWM auto installer from play store and install CMW through that. 2. Flash a kernel which has CWM pre installed.
In this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680793 you can find stock sony kernel with CWM. You download it and flash it using fastboot. That will get you CWM. hope i helped you.

I believe you can try flashing on top of your existing system. I personally have never tried it. But i think it is possible. I would recommend you to flash FXP 128. The improvements are very very visible. More fast and smooth.

Hey all, I'm really new (noob)
This morning I flashed My Xperia Arc S and rooted it.
I follow this 2 post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038 (Rooting)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874801 (Flashing)
It worked fine and then I installed Root Explorer and moved all bloatware to SD Card to make it faster and yess no problem till here...
But then I learned that before installing a custom kernel you need a recovery tool kernel, so I googled and downloaded x-Parts and Installed CWM and so on.
Then I turned off my phone to check the recovery, yes it's fine. Then when I want to reboot it stucked in XPERIA logo, I had waited for at least 30 minutes and nothing happened still stucked. So I unplugged the battery and then went to recovery again then I choosed factory reset then reboot. But when it passed the xperia logo I got blank home screen because I move the Home.Apk to SDcard because I had ADW Launcher.
and because the factory reset and can't go to the setting now I'm unable to flash, root, or whatever yeah because I can't setting usb debugging and unknown source.
Now my phone seems damaged in the main rom. So what I must to do now?
1. How to reflash your stock ROM?
2. If I can't reflash my stock ROM ( I think it's damaged because I move my Home,Apk and factory reset so my ADWLauncher is gone and now I I have a blank home screen), how to another custom rom to replace your damaged rom?
3. I think I have a critical issue, any suggestion how to make it normal again ?
thank you, very appreciate your help this phone have so many contacts and my job apps :crying::crying::crying:
note: sorry for bad english

Ok here is something you have to know before flashing a Costum ROM:
1.Root,unlock bootloader
2.find a ROM you like and follow every step
3.install only kernel that goes with the ROM you are trying to flash.Sample:for GB Arconium 8.2 you can use stock kernel and DooMKernel is grate with that ROM,so don't use other kernel that doesn't goes with the ROM.
3a.flash kernel first
3b.flash ROM
3c.flash kernel fix/modules if needed.
But just in case read a bit before doing anything.Good luck.cheers

Of all the things I have screwed up, I can't believe my first post asking for help is this one. I have been rooting and installing custom ROM's since the EVO. Always found the help I needed in someone else' thread. But this has me stumped.
I am a ROM jumper. Do it all the time. Yesterday, I was having some performance issues with my Note2 so I thought I would do a full wipe and try out another ROM. I also wiped my internal storage. My recover at that time was philz_touch_6.19.3-t0ltetmo. Somehow, I ended up wiping everything and I couldn't boot into anything other than Download mode.
Still no biggie. Wait until I got home and I would flash some with via Odin on my Windows netbook. It never worked. It would maybe get to 25% complete and hang. I left it running for about an hours with no results. Then I moved to my Linux desktop and installed Heimdall. Used that to put philz_touch_6.19.3-t0ltetmo back on the device. Then I installed cm-10.2-20140309-NIGHTLY-t0ltetmo.zip via sideload.
Stuck on smiling robot with a circle.
So I sideloaded CARBON-KK-NIGHTLY-20140302-0859-t0ltetmo.zip. Stuck on the logo there too. aokp_t0ltetmo_kitkat_nightly_2014-02-25.zip same thing. I try pushing the ROM's instead of sideloading. No luck.
So I am thinking that maybe I got a bad philz recovery. Redownload that, and go through the same list of roms. Nothing. OK... so maybe philz has become a POS for some reason on my phone. I try openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-t0ltetmo.zip and repeat all the steps above. Wiping and sideloading, then wiping and pushing... stuck on logo.
I have to say I am stumped. I am losing nerd cred by asking for help, but dammit I am stumped. Any help appreciated.
Most phones have been recovered by flashing stock image, you can give it a shot.

Eww. Does that have to be flashed via Odin/Heimdall or can I use my established recovery? Also, I looked at some of those earlier and they are all in ZIP format. Odin wants TAR.MD5. Is it as simple as unziping and then tar-ing? I don't see an option to TAR.MD5.

The easiest option would be to flash the tar.md5 file using ODIN.
If you are 4.3 bootloader you can flash this MrRobinson's ROM
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760975435
If you are 4.1.2 bootloader you can flash this ROM, download link on post#1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2636552
If you plan to flash it using Heimdall you will have to first extract the tar.md5 file and then flash all ROM components.
Your command should be something like this, please note I have not tried flashing using Heimdall so I am not 100% it will work.
sudo heimdall flash --BOOT boot.img --RECOVERY recovery.img --SYSTEM system.img --CACHE cache.img --HIDDEN hidden.img --RADIO modem.bin

Good stuff, thank you cipher.
Perhaps I am missing something here though. I went to check which version bootloader I have. I just assumed I would have 4.3 since I have been running JB & KK rom's for the past month or so; but I wanted to double check. When I boot into recovery, it doesn't show it there. When I boot into download mode, it doesn't show it there either. Where should I be seeing the version number?
When you boot into download mode do you see KNOX Warranty Void below system status ?
If not then your phone is not on 4.3 bootloader.

Yes, it shows KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 1
So then I have 4.3. Thanks for the info. When I get home tonight, I will try and flash MrRobinson's ROM then report back. Thank you for the help & I will post my results then.
Well, that took care of it. I was able to use MrRobinson's ROM & Heimdall. I did have to download a PIT file, but that was easily found here on xda. Within minutes I had the gawd awful Samsung TW blooping and making stupid noises. Went ahead and flashed TWRP and I am downloading CarbonRom now.
Thanks for the help cipher. It was driving me nuts.
um... mark as solved?
I tried to edit my original post to mark it as solved, but there isn't an option. How do I change my title?
Well, I spoke too soon. I just discovered that I have no cell service. Went to look and found I have no IMEI # anymore. WTF?
Looks like you flashed a modem for a different device.
No worries, just flash the modem from Mr Robinsons ROM and that should take care of it.

I wish it were that simple. I just reflashed MrRobinsons and it is back to Samsung recovery and rom. Still no IMEI. I am going to go full retard and flash the one from SamMobile. I'll erport back later.
Mrrobinsons ROM is the stock rom, it's just root injected and Knox-free.
Try KIES emergency recovery method.
You can find link for procedure in this forum in one of the posts.

Just saw this and I am on my way to work. With no Admin priviledge there, I will have to try this when I get home.
I appreciate the time you have taken to help me cipher.
OKay, I downloaded Kies and it saw my phone. However, it says my phone is fine and will not do an emeregency recovery. After searching on here some more, I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261153
It's possible that Emergency Recovery is no more. I am just about done with this phone. It's been three days and I need a working phone again.

Ok first off, dont have tmobile, but i do have a note (verizon)
What do you mean when you say you are "sideloading" "pushing" a ROM.. Bc normally in recovery you "flash" a rom.
So let's make sure you are doing just that..?
If you are "flashing" a rom in recovery and it installs and you reboot and you are stuck.. thats a different issue..
I would recommend getting your stock Odin tar and flashing it..Make sure it contains a boot.img and if you guys use a pit file.. use that as well..
Post here with some answers and results..Lets see if we can get you back in buisness..
I have HARD bricked my phone, fired eMMC, softed bricked..pretty much been through everything so hopefully we can figure it out!:good:
The main thing is DON'T get frustrated.. I know it's hard but that when you make mistakes and PANIC

Originally, I could not boot into any rom. I could get into recovery. In order to get a rom onto the phone, I could download the zip file to my computer and inside the recovery turn on sideload to move the file to the phone and flash. And Even then I never got any of the roms to get past the boot logo. Cyanogenmod, Carbon-rom, AOKP... none of them.

Yup, I did that. I tried doing it through Heimdall since I am a Linux guy. I can install a stock or stock based rom, but there is never a IMEI number. From what I can tell, the EFS partition is just gone & I never backed it up. I lost the IMEI and it is not coming back.

Oh, I agree. I stepped away from it for about 8 hours a day while at work. Thats when I did most of my reading though. I am pretty sure this is going up for sale on ebay this week. I already bought a new phone. Thank you for taking the time to reply though.

Have you tried flashing the latest firmware, and if yes is this where you got it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380
Also did you read post #2 about going back into recovery, do a factory reset and reboot?
And were you getting these roms that would loop you in this forum, just making sure i know it may sound stupid..
Also, what was the estimated time you were waiting for them to boot..5mins, 10mins, 20mins.. Some take longer than others..
The only other thing i could suggest is JTAG services, by MobileTechVideos, the owner's name is Josh, stand up guy, and I belive it much cheaper than buying a new device =)

I have had some take as long as 20 minutes before, but that was rare. This time, I actually fell asleep and when I woke up in the morning, it was still on the animated boot logo and hot as hell. Still going though. So it was at least 6 hours thst timr.
