LOL
i guess both of us are going to be the dare devil on Friday
or as some other might call it, we'll be the guinea pigs
in case it goes belly up, we'll just take it back for an exchange "DOA"
LOL
yeah well, we should be fine. It's the same model (minus the "D", they use the same kernel and have the same software version.. so it's really safe to assume they are identical.
I had a similiar experience 2 years ago with my HTC Hero, it was the european version with a different model number but everything else was the same, i put on my brass balls and rooted it and everything worked fine.
Just hoping it's gonna be the same for this one.
ohh... the only reason i'll be cautious about is the example we had with i9000 vs i9000M
they were identical in almost every way, except that some ROMs / internal storage partitions were slightly different, and many people had issues after flashing the international ROMs, however later on as it became clear people making ROM started including the slight difference between the 2 models.
so, i'm keeping my finger crossed for that to NOT be the case this time.
Well, rooting the phone shouldn't been an issue imo.
We might be stuck on stock for a little while but at least the phone will be rooted.
Rooting it shouldn't be that much different though, no? If I remember correctly, it's got the same build number, but the baseband is different. I guess I'm not the only one who's going to go get it first thing Friday
Any idea if the low DPI will have a noticeable difference compared to other phones, in terms of picture quality?
well i was going to get the Tmo version, when it came out 2 weeks ago
but then started reading about all this doomsday reports of this defect, and that defect, etc, etc...
then i though... hmm... i better get it locally, and save myself the trouble of having to ship it back and forth in case i needed exchange
when you ship the phone back and forth, the cost rises up really quickly to a point it might even cost more than buying it locally.
so i bit the bullet and chilled myself down to hold for another week... (3 more days!!!!) to get the phone
LOL
i was going crazy waiting for this beast to come out
I've been waiting the SGS2 since June!!!!!!!, but there was no AWS compatible version for Mobilicity and WIND

I feel like it's Christmas in October! My Telus store told me that it might have them Friday or Saturday, so Best Buy might get my service, if they have it.
I can imagine $600 being shipped back and forth must be a pretty penny!
Did you guys get this version yet? Im curious about the screens.

he's curious about the screen defects.
After a more precise look with the blobs picture, i see tiny vertical lines.. i mean i have to really put my face in the glass to see them.
But using the camera and facing it in a dark setting.. nothing..
Either the image has an issue because my camera doesnt re-create it.

Hey, I was just wondering where to buy this phone on contract.
I see many people have it and I really want it on contract.
Its on www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk but is that website trusted?
Thanks, Chris
As far as I'm aware, they've been around for quite some time, so I certainly don't think there's any issue of them being some didgy company if that's what you're worried about.
I do know that they've got limited stock at the moment, although they seem to be getting new deliveries fairly quickly. They're not too easy to get hold of on the phone, and can take a while to respond by email (my guess is they're slammed with demand for the TP2 as they seem to be the only place at the moment to get one on contract).
I had some issues on Friday ordering from them so ended up cancelling, but they emailed this morning to apologise about the mixups, and I had a very helpful guy who's trying to get me one out pdq so fingers crossed.
If you want it on contract, and you want it now, then as far as I'm aware, they are your only option. Others on here have already had TP2 delivered from MPD so they will get you one, there might just be a couple of days delay.
Sweet, thanks.
I think I might just have to purchase one soon then. See, I really need a new phone. I did have an LG viewty which absolutely sucked and wasn't working so I threw it at a concrete floor and the screen went blank and doesn't show anything so now I'm stuck with a SE W810i and it's torture ;o
So yeh, Thanks, Chris

What did you expect? Dont Do this with the Touch Pro 2, it wont fair well at all.
I expected it to work :O Didn't think about it breaking was too annoyed when trying to make important texts... And I wouldn't dare do that witht he tp 2
Thanks
Just to clarify... bought my TP2 on mobilephonesdirect.co.uk a week ago... it's sweet as a nut!
Ok so I'm sick and tired of dealing with sprint's pathetic excuse for "3g" speeds. And using 3 year old phone technology (lg optimus).
I've been a part of the android club since the G1 and my biggest gripe has always been the lack of hardware acceleration. Finally I thought, a phone that does this! But everyone is saying there are screen problems...and it's not as snappy as they wish it were.
Are the issues really as bad as some make it out to be? Or are these just people who like to complain for the sake of complaining? If I do order one what should I make sure to check...and how long do you have to send it back?
Really want to click the "order" button on google play...someone convince me!! I was waiting to see what the SGIII was going to be priced at...but I know it'll be way way more. I don't really like the idea of spending more than $400 on a phone.
Nobody can decide for you. If it doesn't work out, return it. You also have a 1-yr warranty for showstopping issues.
Every electronic device has potential issues. Mine has been flawless for months...and I'm not alone.
Regardless of what phone you order there is always the possibility of recieving a device with faulty hardware. In that case you can return it for a new one.
I can't really convince you either way. I love my Nexus, and haven't really had any issues with it. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who asks. SGS3 could turn out to be great, but if you are looking to spend a little less and want something now I'd go for it.

I do want it! Not looking for someone to decide for me...just hoping the issues aren't as widespread as some say. Seems like almost every experience I've read people have had to send the phone back 2-3 times to get a good one.
Kinda crazy for something that's been in production for 6 months now no?
I like mine. You could go to a Verizon store and check the screen out. The biggest gripe people have is on a grey background on low brightness there can be a grainy appearance. Meh. Don't get it if you care but honestly I don't
I haven't had any other hardware issues.

I highly doubt the Galaxy Nexus has any more or less hardware variability or faults than any other phone. People just like to complain, and the minority with issues are ALWAYS more vocal than the people who are happy.

So what's the process for using this phone with tmobile's $30/month plan? I order it online and then take it into any walmart?
Yes, every phone does have it's faults, but the Galaxy Nexus' screen issues is very prominent in so many of these devices that it's ridiculous. And I can tell you firsthand that it is not just for the sake of complaining, a lot of these screens are terrible. I'm waiting on my 3rd Nexus to come in on Wednesday and hopefully there is nothing wrong with it. But I've read countless stories about how many people had to exchange their Nexus 7 or 8 times before they got 1 without problems. But I'm just informing from experience / reading.
Aside from the faulty screens I've gotten, I LOVE this phone. It's amazing and I would definitely recommend you to order this. If you do get 1 with a faulty screen simply exchange it. Everything about this phone is great and for me the Nexus line is the only way to go now.
Not even every phone but almost EVERY device that is made whether it is a radio, television, mouse, speakers, etc. There is a chance of defect. What matters the most is whether or not they will send you a replacement in a timely fashion without question.

Buy this: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/T-Mobile-Prepaid-SIM-Activation-Kit
When it arrives, activate it here: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-activate
Put it in your phone.
DON'T go into a store. Its an "online only" plan. Call customer service if you need to port a number.
I strongly suggest that you read the Prepaid thread and specific $30 month thread before trying it out. There are some asterisks and fine print when it comes to prepaid. I personally am running this plan and love it. I just recommend you know what you're getting into before signing up.

You don't get roaming, you don't get good customer service, you don't get free nights/weekends/mobile to mobile minutes, your service shuts off on the 30th day of your service if you don't refill. Things like that.
That being said its still the best deal in wireless if you don't need many minutes. I mean I still use it . The pros heavily outweigh the cons.

Congrats, you won't regret it, awesome device I'm one of the people that likes this phone. Best damn device I ever held in my hands, once you root it and start flashing (If you're into that), you'll see that the experience will be even better. Enjoy.
If you want you can also try getting the SIM at your local T-Mobile store, to avoid waiting for shipping(I'm sure you'll get the Gnex quicker), rep should give you one. I would anyway..
Thanks everyone. Do you guys use a case/screen protector on yours? Or just never let it out of your hands?
It has curved glass so do screen protectors work as well?

Personal preference really, there's a bunch of threads around with in depth info regarding SP's and Cases.
Wet apps will always have the best edge cover, but usually might have a minimal orange peel (not all cases). Dry apps on a good quality SP will be crystal clear but might not adhere all the way on edges. My 2cents with personal experience...

I use a zagg screen protector and that's it. I feel the cases take away from it design too much. I bought my GSM gnex back in November from the UK (had it shipped international to the US) and I cannot complain about one thing. Screen has been perfect . This is absolutely the best android phone ive ever used by far. You will not regret your purchase in the least bit. Have fun with it, and welcome to the family!
Edit; also if you have any questions when you receive it, don't hesitate to ask or pm

I received a CLNR replacement from VZW this weekend due to massive banding on my original device. Take it out inspect it for scratches, fire up the phone, check out the screen for banding etc. No scratches, screen has no banding/dead pixels and I assume all is well! Much to my dismay when I try to DL apps, surf the net or stream Netflix , make calls etc. the phone cannot keep a signal to save it's life. It has full 4G signal and after I access data or make a call, the bars are gone and there's a x in the signal bars. When this occurs, I cannot makes calls or access data etc etc. When I switch from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only I have a stable data connection, and calls can be made etc. Would I need to switch out the entire main motherboard or would I just need to swap out the antenna? I've been searching around for an answer and cannot seem to find one. Checked out a few tear downs and it seems simple enough to remove. I do have experience tearing apart and rebuilding so I do not see any issues. Thank you for any input!
If you got a CLNR and its faulty, get another replacement. Why would you try to open it and fix it, potentially breaking and voiding warranty, when you can just get it replaced for free?

Well I'm tired of playing the warranty exchange game and getting a crappier one. The screen on the one w/ the faulty radio is PERFECT. If you have ever gotten a Verizon CLNR you would know. I've received THREE Nexus' with scratched screens out of the box. I'm tired of the asshattery of their CLNR program. Well if you're so loaded, I'm surprised you dealt with CLNR in the first place... why not just buy a new phone every time you get a scratch on the screen there moneybags?
I dealt with it at Sprint and after 4 replacements I left my contract with them. I know it sucks, but seriously choosing to rip your phone apart and replace an antenna (which may or may not fix the problem) when you can have them replace the phone free makes absolutely no sense to me. CLNR sucks, but you're bound to get an acceptable one eventually, or you should be able to complain after so many replacements and get an actually new device.

Ok,
I just to share my pain with you guys. I keep reading you guys on the HOX update thread. I reckon by the time I get a phone without fault, it'll come with Jellybean straight out of the box.
I'm with Carphone Warehouse.
They are brilliant at arranging a swap. But, not so good at sending me a working phone it seems. I'll spare you the details about the issues, but they have all been genuine.
Spoke to a manager today, who said to send the phone to their office, and they will have a look at it. And they will inspect my replacement before they send it out.
However, I'm on the second month of my new contract now, and it's basically 2 months without the phone I ordered. I don't see the point in kicking off over the phone, as most of the time, they don't really have the authority to do much. Plus, it's no good for the blood pressure if you end up arguing with a jerk.
Far better to take your time and write a letter to head office, spelling out all the issues, the timeline and what you want as a resolution. And then sleep on it. Edit it, and sleep on it again before sending it.
If you were me, what would you ask them for? (apart from a working phone, but hopefully that is in the bag if they truly are going to inspect it)
I don't mind stupid comments as long as you give a sensible one as well. I could do with some light relief.
If you were me, what would you ask them for?

Yes, they did offer me the SG3.
I don't like the screen. Nor the dialler. Or the design.
As for why I different ask for a different phone.
Kind of like those situations where you're waiting for a bus. And you've been waiting that long, you could have walked, but didn't, because you knew the next one would be here in a minute.
I've spoken to them, and if they don't send me out a working phone, without flaws, then I will be getting an SG3.
(but then, whose to say I won't have the same issues with the SG3!! I might just be one of those really unlucky SOB's...)
I mean, given probability, you would have thought that by the 8th one, I would have got a working one.
What I don't want to do, is end up over on the SG3 forum, with the same title, except it saying
My 10th replacement SG3.
And 4 months into my contract.
Yes, you're right. Definitely the 2 months line rental.
You have my sympathy, it took me 4 replacements on the 3 network to get a usable phone and I thought I had it bad, you're doing well not to lose it, sounds like Carphone Warehoue are being decent at least with swapping them out each time rather than a repair.
Then again, with 3 i'm still on 1.28 with bugs galore so it's still not 100%. I would definitely be asking for the 2 months back as you haven't had the benefit of the service you're paying for. I really would have thought HTC would have these problems sorted by now, I'm very surprised.
I would probably at this point even ask for a refund, hold out a month or two and maybe either try again or opt for another phone if something else you fancied came along.
If they are going to check out the new replacement first, maybe give them this chance and then consider your options. Good luck!
@Op,
10 new replacements in 2 months does make me think your story is crap, that's how I see it.

I'd have gone through two. Maybe three. But ten? Unless there was a bad run and CPW got all of them the odds of getting that many defective devices in a row are astronomical. Early in the launch when the One X was at its worst the "perfect vs. non-perfect poll" showed 70% declared perfect by their owners. Out of ten that's seven that were fault free. OP, you seem to have bad karma with the One X. I'd suggest not tempting the gods any longer and finding a substitute.
I also say total crap,
Carphone warehouse wouldn't even replace it 10 times, they would have offered a different phone or scrapped the contract long before now.
I've had one HOX, (release day 5th april)
The one I'm using now is the same phone, it's faultless.
Oh, and I got it from Carphone Warehouse.

10 new replacements in 2 months does make me think your story is crap, that's how I see it.

So true :good:
Op hasn't mentioned what the "fault or flaw" is that he has experienced. Utter Bull crap if you ask me.
I feel so sorry for htc...because of these people that send their phones back for a creaking screen or flashing lcd's bla bla bla. It is breaking htc to the point of needing a bail-out from the Taiwanese Banks!
I've owned my One X since May and experienced all of the bugs that have been discussed in these forums but I never gave up on her, she's been wonderful to me. Luckily I don't have any hardware defects and accept that she is what she is a hot & sexy and occasionally sometimes difficult to be with. But I love my One X to the end.
Sorry for the rant but really come on 10 returns?? Why didn't you switch service providers after the 3rd return? And next time tell us what flaw's you were experiencing other wise we'll just think you're talking utter crap...end
Well I have just received my fifth replacement (First four because of GPS issues), and this one I found, to my dismay, has a faulty touch screen. I.e. the top third of the screen doesn't register any touch, and I can't drag notification bar down, or search for apps in Play Store etc etc.
This one was FROM HTC.... ugh
Wow 10 replacements does sound bad indeed. Maybe you are just to picky, or they keep sending you the same phone
i got mine since it came out. The only problem with it is the creacking on the left side. It does seem annoying sometimes but not enough to start bugging htc or complain about sh*t quality. I love my phone as it is. Theres nothing perfect in this world

Yea mine also seems to have that issue and the light leak at the bottom on a black screen, but it's not enough for me to send it back. I only had one issue with the phone after I got it and that was a faulty SIM card, but my Service provider, MTN Just swapped it the next day. I love my phone and am running JB ROM now. it makes all the difference. 10 swaps seems like a picky user or you must have been a terrible person in your previous life.

Well just so you know HTC/retailers/carriers dont just keep the returned phones. They resell them to other customers in different manners depending on how honest the party is. HTC is having financial problems because people just dont buy their phones to begin with. I just started working at a phone store and the people there push the SGS3 like crazy and customers just ask about IP4S )
And just because you like the ideal design/ concept/ the brand doesnt make the messy production acceptable. Idk about other major Android phone releases, but I've seen so many people who had to swap A COUPLE OF times just to get a decent one. That was a bit shocking. And I've seen people who claimed to have a perfect handset in the beginning now have issues with the wifi-antenna. SO just a reminder for those of you HTC police, before chastising the disgruntled customers, think about karma. Your perfect phones may be the next one in the line to be sent back to customer service and I'll be eagerly waiting for the story about your experience with HTC repair, especially those you that live in the UK.
PS: Just to say preemptively that Im not a Samsung/ Apple/ Sony fan boy. HTC is still my most favourite Android manufacturer but that doesnt mean I need to suck up to their horrendous quality control.
i call bull **** 10 phones u are either the unluckiest person alive or your trolling
Please, I wanna c a picture of ur face. Please.

@ averygagaanroid I totally agree with you.
My personal experience with htc thus far has been exceptional and the three gorgeous phone's I've owned from them in the last 5-6 years have been a Hero, Desire and One X and yes a have found bugs but I was patient enough and now I still have these perfect working phone's now.
I only hope that htc pull's through these hard times and comes out stronger because I will be buying my next phone from htc in the next 18 months.
What network are you working for?

Optus and Virgin in Australia.
i work at CPW, please P/M me a customer number or transaction number for any of the 10 exchanges so that i can confirm/refute your claims for all these fine people
So the first phone was new and had crackling speakers. Second phone that was sent to me was refurbished and had a smudge underneath the screen so it wasn't cleanable unless I opened the hw. Third refurbished phone had a glass gap between the screen and the base of the phone, so there was bleeding light coming from the back of the phone. Now T-Mobile is sending me a fourth refurbished (most likely) phone.
All the replacements seen to be refurbished.
Imagine. . .I played for S-Off each time and a screen protector each time. That's around $140 ($25x4 + $10x4) USD just on replacement bs.
Anyone else having these issues?
I unrooted, restored stock ota, re locked, and re s-oned the first two devices (fourth device is coming 6/1/15) to restore original (warranty) status despite all these issues being hardware related. Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off
Other then that, i do not have any problems with the phone. Its a huge improvment from m7 build quality to m9.

I already checked for defects. However it was only noticeable during the night. As for the smudge, it can be taken off with a microfiber, however once the oil of the skin touches the screen it comes back. All of these were freak incidents.
Pixel test has nothing to do with my problems with the phones as I have no dead pixels.
Like I said, definitely very aware of my phone and its uses. I've had every phone out there and do numbers of different ports for audio. So its not like this is my first rodeo.

T-Mobile is very generous as they credited me $60 at no hassle or haggling. They've sent me several replacements with no hassle. However they said if the third replacement they send me is defected, they'll allow me to choose a swap of the M9 for another phone. . .which is not what I want because I like this phone.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues getting a unit without defect. I ordered my developer edition phone a few days after it was available and it showed up in perfect condition. I had read about issues regarding gaps at the screen and body, and a "clicky" area at one of the screen boundaries, however my phone was free of all of those. My old M7 had one pixel that would only display in white, but I kept it and was very happy with it.
Bottom line - I hope you get an M9 that you are happy with, because this phone is awesome. As hamdir notes in the sticky thread at the top, the upcoming firmware update brings great improvements to daytime camera performance and battery performance. HTC continues to show themselves as a company dedicated to delivering a great experience for their customers.

That's all good and stuff. . but it's the hardware that is failing this device. All these defects. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone. However this is not okay for me and shouldn't be acceptable for anyone else.
I just want my phone to work as intended.

You appear to be the exception and not the rule with regard to defective M9s. If you hold out for an M9 that meets your standards, I think you'll be very pleased with the device. Good luck!
I ended up with 3 of them at one point. Got to choose between two grey and one gold silver. One of the greys had phucked up speakers. Kept it for a few weeks prior to paying for S off... What kind of momo would pay 25 USD the second they receive the phone. Ended up paying $450 cdn for one after all the credits they gave me for the hassle.

Sounds like me. Hah
I wish I'd sent mine back. Horrid battery and camera experience with this one
If it makes you feel better, I went through 3 Galaxy S6s with defects before I went to the M9. Yeah, I'm not happy with this onr, but it's more the camera and the heat that's ruining my experience. I'm just not sure why the hell you paid for S-Off 4 times. After the first, I would have waited to make sure the phone was FLAWLESS.

Trust me. I did. Until I looked at the phone when it was dark. For now on I'm going to be running tests every time I get a phone.
Is the replacement with T-Mobile or asurion? Or another private insurance..I remember with my wifes note4 they gave us a new phone right there in the store..and it was past the 15 days return policy...but then again it was Verizon not T-Mobile

They do it from asurion for some reason?
Hello boys and girls.
Would you be so kind to explain me how to understand if my htc one m9 is refurbished? Tried ##778# code and it does not work for me. And my phone is not rooted also.
Thank You in advance.
Best Regards,
So the third replacement they sent me (fourth phone) was also defected. So I finally called @HTC and explained to them what happened. They're sending me a new device, not some cleaned up BS used device. The one they will send me is going to be brand new. Good guys HTC (warranty).
