Posted here because I dont have enough posts to post in the Cyanogenmod thread.
I recently updated to the latest nightly (10212011). I did this after seeing that 10202011 had some issues when using the video camera.
So this weekend I made a short video thinking all would be good but when I played it back via 'Gallery' the portrait video footage played sideways in landscape mode. Turning the phone to landscape gave me a stretched portrait video, which isnt really ideal in a perfect world. I can play the video in QQPlayer in its correct orientation but the video seems to jump, repeat parts and also goes out of sync.
I have searched to see if this has occured but I have not seen this issue before, so I wanted to flag it up to the devs.
Additionally I have another problem which again after searching I have not found a solution to.
I have the Kindle app installed and it all works great, I can read my book etc but after leaving the app the phone freezes and my only way out is to remove the battery. Has anyone else come across this? is there a solution?
Thanks for any help

Mine does that too, unless I hold the phone sideways when recording. Lately getting it to record at all is my issue, but have posted that elsewhere

I'm not sure if its just my device it was working before, but everytime I video record something and playit back it looks weird. Is thhere anyway I could fix it?

I've noticed the same on CM7: after I record something with the camcorder, sometimes (not all the time) the picture is garbled so that 99% of the picture is white/black/blue lines on the stock player. It only does it when the screen is in portrait. If I turn the phone to landscape, the video plays fine.
Also, playing the videos play correctly on RockPlayer. RockPlayer forces to landscape for playback, so that might have something to do with it. Also, if I try to view the video on my desktop PC, it plays fine. Seems like more an issue with the player playing those particular videos in portrait.
This is how it plays with all videos in portrait mode, but seems to be just fine if you view them in landscape mode. The majority of my screen would be blue with the super-thin white/black lines, but against it's primarily all blue in color. I don't think there's any way to fix it, to my knowledge any way.
Same deal here. I am on CM7 RC2 with 2.6.32.32 kernel. If I shoot a video in landscape I can only playback the video holding my device in landscape. And vice versa for portrait. Half of the video is blocked by a blue screen. Does this sound familiar to anyone.

Yes it does!

This still seems to be broken in the latest CM nightlies. Wonder why it's not working. It's also happening in CM7-based ROMs (i.e. GingerVillain 1.5).
Hi everyone..
Is it possible to set a shortcut in the home screen to start the camera app for recording video?
Whenever I start the stock camera app, it default to still photo.

I used to have an app installed called SuperFastCam, which started recording video instantly once you launched it. current version seem to be recording video upside down according to the latest reviews. you could give that a try.
SuperFastCam works fine for me on HTC Incredible.
Good tip "mb_3000".
Thanks!
Spoke too soon...
SuperFastCam crapped out on me too. It worked fine at first but after a reboot, it would start but then immediately FC. I tried several re-installs. No good.
Oh well. I'm still looking for an option. I'll pass it on if I find something.
Hey, I got my Galaxy Note 2 a few days ago and so far I'm having a blast with it =) But I noticed an issue while viewing photos and videos... and running the camera app as well:
For some reason while the camera is running, a photo is displayed, or a video is playing, the screen renders everything grainy. I thought it was my imagination, but when I open up a menu, all the icons and options look different too, they don't look smooth anymore, as if anti aliasing (?) was turned off. It's even more noticeable when I use the pop up player option, it effects everything I'm doing on the screen until I close the video. This only happens while content is being displayed, though. When browsing the gallery or scrolling through my video list everything looks fine, until I open something. I also noticed this only happens in Samsung's media apps. Using a different app to view photos doesn't cause this at all. I looked through the forums and couldn't find anyone else with this issue, maybe I'm the only one and should get the phone replaced? Or maybe others haven't noticed it yet... it sounds specifically software related. I had the original Galaxy Note and didn't run into this, so I'm pretty confused. Has anyone else experienced this? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

This is really weird. I took a couple screenshots while the issue was going on but when transferred to my computer they look exactly how they should, no graininess whatsoever. I also tested some more apps, namely Camera Zoom FX and MX Player. Those aren't affecting the display at all either. I looked through every settings menu I could find to see if I had something on that I shouldn't, but nothing helps...
Nobody else seems to be having an issue, maybe my best bet is to exchange it, then
I would try a factory reset. If that doesnt work check out a display model at TMo, if its different ask for a new one.
Just did a factory reset, it's still doing it -_-. I'll check T-Mobile tomorrow, though, thanks!
On all of the Jelly bean roms I have flashed, the camera doesn't save my pictures correctly and rotates them on to there side. I have searched and search the forums, but havnt been able to find anything to help. Does anyone have a link, or solution to this problem for me?
Have you tried any other camera app on the Play store to see if it produces the same issue? If not, maybe try clearing data/cache for your camera app
I thought that was an android thing?? Gotta take pics in landscape or the portrait ones will be sideways if you transfer them anywhere,?? Maybe I'm wrong.....but I've been only taking pics in landscape ever since I read that. I know for sure that's how video works.

Strange... after transferring several images taken from my phone in both landscape and portrait to my computer they would always be in the proper orientation. Either way, it's not a big issue to fix, unless you have tons of photos to re-adjust
Hey guys,
Forgive my ignorance, as I have searched high and low for any information on this, but I was running TazzSense 3.6 for quite a while with no major issues other than some lag that may have been more due to the apps I had installed, and on that ROM the video playback, including youtube in HQ, was clear and great. I tend to watch a lot of youtube videos. Yesterday, because I wanted to try it out, I flashed the latest Incredibly Paranoid after doing the super duper wipe and everything seems to be working great and I love the interface.
However videos on youtube seem pixelated and grainy even on HQ, compared to the old ROM. This seems to be isolated to Youtube or perhaps flash videos because other videos seem to be fine, but playing youtube videos through the app or a browser looks a bit off. I tried turning HQ off (looks worse obviously) and back on again. I also tried messing with all the combinations of Paranoid settings, which changed the look of the UI but not the video playback. I seem to notice a few rows of black pixels to the top and bottom of the video; it's my understanding that these videos are 480p in HQ, so in my mind should fill the screen, could something be scaling vertically slightly and causing the degradation in quality? Are there any other things I could check on? Any input greatly appreciated; if this belongs somewhere else please forgive me.
Yeah that's a bug in older job kernel. Wait for either new cm10.1 or pa jb4.2 or flash evervolv with new 3.0 kernel.
