[Q] Youtube playback grainy/pixelated after flashing IncrediblyParanoid? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hey guys,
Forgive my ignorance, as I have searched high and low for any information on this, but I was running TazzSense 3.6 for quite a while with no major issues other than some lag that may have been more due to the apps I had installed, and on that ROM the video playback, including youtube in HQ, was clear and great. I tend to watch a lot of youtube videos. Yesterday, because I wanted to try it out, I flashed the latest Incredibly Paranoid after doing the super duper wipe and everything seems to be working great and I love the interface.
However videos on youtube seem pixelated and grainy even on HQ, compared to the old ROM. This seems to be isolated to Youtube or perhaps flash videos because other videos seem to be fine, but playing youtube videos through the app or a browser looks a bit off. I tried turning HQ off (looks worse obviously) and back on again. I also tried messing with all the combinations of Paranoid settings, which changed the look of the UI but not the video playback. I seem to notice a few rows of black pixels to the top and bottom of the video; it's my understanding that these videos are 480p in HQ, so in my mind should fill the screen, could something be scaling vertically slightly and causing the degradation in quality? Are there any other things I could check on? Any input greatly appreciated; if this belongs somewhere else please forgive me.

Yeah that's a bug in older job kernel. Wait for either new cm10.1 or pa jb4.2 or flash evervolv with new 3.0 kernel.

Youtube Update Version 2.4.4: HD playback now available on capable phones.

Latest youtube app can now play HD on our phones, no more need to use Dolphin for HD on youtube.
Videos play smoothly, though I have had a problem with HD needing to buffer a lot even when I am getting 20 Mbps down.
On the bright side HD content looks amazing on the Nitro's screen.
I was Beginning to think it was just my phone acting up on YouTube. The audio was always fine, but the video never was. I hope this update fixes that.

Well I updated YouTube and rebooted the phone. Still glitchy video. Been that way the whole time I've owned the phone. Wtf

What do you mean by glitchy?

Downloaded the latest one (fresh install), and I agree with both you Kindawack as well as allstar. Yes, the HD videos look magnificent (just saw the avengers trailer n by God it's gorgeous n super sharp), and yes, youtube can run HD videos BETTER now. The reason I say better and that I agree with allstar is because I still see random stuttering in video play. That is wat allstar meant by glitchy. What happens is that the video framerates fall behind the audio playback and eventually 'jumps/speeds up' to catch up to the audio.
Now with the latest youtube app, the glitch is actually at a minimum and happens randomly. Throughout the trailer, it only glitched on me around 4-5 times and I almost barely noticed them. So I agree this version addresses the glitches. Now the rest of the stuttering falls on the phone itself and properly allocating resources to youtube.
EDIT: Nope, forget it, glitch is still there, in full affect. Just saw another HD video, the new Gorillaz video, DoYaThing, and you can tell from 2D's movement that it's there. He will slightly slow down as he moves, and then sprints back to frame.
Oh he meant dropped frames, not that surprising I got them on 480P as well.
And on top of none-smooth playback it rebuffers even on wifi 40mbps connection...I think Google optimizes it's software only for it's flagship phones (Nexus), until it gets HD display we shall not see any improvements on Nitro....My theory

The Galaxy Nexus does have an HD screen.
Hmmm...then I guess it's due to no optimization from LG side? Perhaps the lag we experiencing in the UI is related?
why don't you guys just use opera and flash 11? I use it all the time and get no lag and it works great and fast. Also opera or maxathon are the smoothest browsers for non ics phones right now. There is virtually no lag while scrolling with these 2 browsers.

Because using a browser for youtube is very unwieldy and awkward.

i dont get any rebuffering issues though. runs smoothly on both wifi or 4G/LTE. Other than drop frames, everything else seems fine.

[Q] Flickering background in video playback!

Hey!
I hope this question hasn't been already been posted and answered. Only recently I got my Galaxy Nexus and so far I'm seriously in love  On thing that bugs me though, is the crappy video playback, whether on YouTube or directly played from the internal storage. There's always a lot of background artifacts and noise where's only supposed to be a plain color, e.g. black (compared to playback on a PC or other devices). Could someone play this video (search on YT for Perfect Balance Pedal, first video from 0:14 on) on their Gnex and report if they face the same problem or have a solution? Thanks a lot!
I don't have any bug like that..
I'm using JB ROM and with stock ICS ROMs I didn't have that problem too..
Are you using stock ROM with stock kernel, or..?

Never experienced this issue. However, since it's occurring on both videos contained in memory as well as streaming services like YouTube, it's not likely an issue with the connection. The only thing I can come up with is something in your graphics drivers (hopefully) or GPU (hopefully not) is messed up. Have you tried downloading all of the stock software, checking md5sums and reflashing stock?
If a fresh and clean install of stock continues to have this issue, it may be an issue with the hardware and may need to be replaced.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm currently on mike1986's Android Revolution 5.01 (JB) with Trinity Kernel, but I don't think the problem relates to that because I previously got this on stock 4.04 also. So it could just be a defunction of my screen?

An issue with the GPU blobs / GPU itself or possibly the CPU is more likely than the screen itself. If there was an issue with the screen you would likely see problems outside of video playback.

Has anyone seen a fix for jerky kitkat video playback?

I just started using a gopro, and thought my issues were with its video recording, but it looks like everything that's 1080p in kitkat no longer plays back smoothly, but is a bit jerky, and it looks like there is a framerate issue.
(This is with the default player, or MX)
I don't see any mention of a fix for this anywhere, and I'd think it would be considered a major kitkat feature bug.

Tab S 10.5 YouTube Video Stuttering

Hi guys, I recently bought a galaxy tab s 10.5 and I'm having issues with video playback in the native YouTube app. Basically every 5-10 seconds, I would get a micro stutter, as if the video is slightly jittery. It's definetely not buffering as the video has loaded well ahead already too.
I am using the samsung stock OS so 4.4.2 and I have installed all the latest official updates for both the OS and the Youtube app.
I have also tried a factory reset of the machine, clearing the cache and updates for the Youtube app and reinstalling. I've also tried forced GPU rendering and turning off hardware overlays in developer mode
Does this indicate there's an issue with my hardware ? It does not happen when i stream videos from my PC over wifi or any locally downloaded videos. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hmmm, never had this problem with mine when it was on stock. I usually had this problem when I underclocked my cpus and all that or when I am using to many appps.
The only thing I can suggest is use another app (viral popup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Mata.YTplayer ) or take it back to be safe.

Thanks, yep the youtube videos would stutter even when i freshly restarted the tablet so nothing else really is running in the background. I have tried the viral popup app except it seems to play at a really low quality setting, ,ie 1080p is not available ?
Is there anything I can test to see if its a possible hardware issue ? I ran the Antutu benchmark and got 37k which seems in line for what's expect from this tablet. Does this help rule anything out ? Thanks.
Check processes, there's probably something in the background.

I dont think so. When you play games does it lag too? Ex real racing 3 etc? Because if it cant play youtube without the micro lag, that may affect other apps. I dont get any lag while I was on stock.
If any other apps lag while playing (not on loading screens) then it may be an issue. I never had any micro lag on mine so it may vary on how you see it. Of course we have custom roms that are way smoother (CM12) but I am unsure if your issue is hardware related or the way you see it. Hope this helps!
I got youtube stuttering too for months on my TabS ST800, I tried every tricks in dev options, nothing ever changed .
But one day i tried the CARDBOARD view in the YouTube app options and then return to normal 2D view.... motion became butter smooth up to 1440p60, for any video! If closing youtube app and restarting it, it is stuttering again, until opening again the cardboard view.
Here is a test video I used to validate stutter-free playback :

Good luck.

You, sir, are awesome!!! I had this problem for the last couple of months on my Tab Pro 10.1, tried everything to eliminate it. Going back to Stock or GraveD rom was slightly better but not really smooth either. I was beginning to lose my sanity switching back and forth between CM11, CM12.1 and stock-rom, trying different developer-options but was not completely satisfied in the end. This cardboard-step is a temporary fix i can definitely live with. But I'm surprised that not many people seem to be effected by this stuttering or they simply don't mind at all. Hope that google is going to fix this shortcoming in the near future but meanwhile...Thanks a ton mister :good:!

I was so happy too I spent a night watching again many videos I love ! I'm glad I could share that little joy !
To answer your question, it is a shame that people are suffering from the belief that "online" videos on computer, tablets or phone *must* somewhat stutter. Well ... even trans-galactic communications in Star Wars/Trek and other sci-fi movies are depicted with stutter and even analog (!) video sync and lines issues (in 2150!!). Stutter and other digital disorders have been imprinted in the modern culture because not much effort was given to understand (and implement) that we human are analog creatures requiring a natural constant flow of sound and light, not a "best effort" variable low frame sample rate due to "unavoidable" system interrupts between storage, cpu, gpu and screen. Remarkably, Apple hardware/software was always close to perfection due to their close collaboration with the computer graphics industry for tv and movies..
It is indeed so much enjoyable when colors, contrast, motion of a clean picture hit the brain which then do not have to interpolate, filter dynamically and overcome an unpleasant stressfull and therefore tiring "motion picture"
So far only Sony with its X1 graphical processor in TVs is IMO able to achieve a minimum of digital artefacts while interpolating and displaying moving pictures. HD was a attempt to increase resolution (but we lost many qualities that the oldest of us enjoyed with CRT tubes). UHD must bring "better pixels" back with constant higher frame rate, higher pixel resolution and higher color resolution and dynamic range.
I hope to say bye bye soon to "flicks" = flickering judderish stuttering color-ish moving pictures.

A2lite Android 10 windowed video overlay performance (very specific issue)

Hi, can anyone with android 10 (QDLMIXM) please try this?
1) Play a Youtube video in 720 or 1080p (I use the Vanced app but this isn't even youtube specific afaik, just very clear to see!)
2) NOT FULLSCREEN video (fullscreen seems ok)
3) Adjust the volume and observe video.
Does video playback stay smooth while volume overlay is on screen?
Mine is jerky as hell and I want to know if it's worth trying reset etc before i roll back to 9, which sounds a right pain.
I tried disabling HW GUI in overlay options and that makes things slow all the time, so worse.
This seems related to all the slowdown issues i'm having with 10, with most apps. It's awful!
Makes even typing difficult. Phone ruined basically. Same for everyone or just me?

I tried this just now and it didn't stutter or stop at any point. Video playback and sound stayed smooth as ever on 1080p in the official YouTube app.

Thank you. Right, seemsi've got something messed up with my phone then, might be worth a full reset unless anyone has better ideas what it could be please?
Shame because this is really only issue i've got with 10 (so far...). Thanks for trying that.
This is quite sad. I have the same issues on YouTube (both official and vanced), and severe lag on Reddit, Messenger and Discord, along with Gboard which has killed my typing experience. Nothing but pain on this phone recently.
