This question has been killing me. I don't own an Xperia Play yet, but I may soon. My question is about the volume rocker.
Is the rocker a dual input switch, meaning you can press both of the volume keys at the same time, or is it a switch, meaning that if you press the rocker one direction, it is physically impossible to press it the other side until you stop pressing it.
Here's what I mean in a more organized manner.
-Is the volume rocker capable of holding + and - volume at the same time, physically.
-Is the volume rocker a single part, meaning that it lifts so you can only press either + or - volume at a single time.
The reason why I'm asking about this is because I plan on android development, and I need to know if the volume rocker acts as a possible input and if both rockers can be pressed at once.
Thanks.
No it is NOT possible to push both at the same time. You can only push + or - at one time.

I can press both + and - (volume button) at the same time on my play.. They both make a satisfying click.
Both CAN be pressed at the same time
Yep I can push both at once. Can be useful when mapped to game controls due to this.

Both can be pressed at the same time.

Pretty much how it is. The volume is a rocker switch so it has a little more give. The power switch is just a single switch. It'll probably loosen up a bit over time though.
Let's think this way -
Volumen button does nothing when the screen is off.
But power button is everything. If it's pressed accidently in your pocket or bag, you may find out your phone's battery is almost empty after a while when you pulled it out from you pocket.
So, I believe it's designed like that to prevent any unexpected action.
Hello,
I'm using the International GT-N7100 Note II. It's rooted.
I find myself frequently touching the volume rocker or the Power button while using the phone, either when type-tapping or playing games, which gets annoying.
Have there been any mods or workarounds to, say, hold the Home button to access the functions of the volume and power buttons? At least, I can make sure I don't accidentally press those buttons when I do not intend to, and I also can make sure that I'm actually accessing those said functions when I want to, by pressing the Home button.
I prefer a mod or to edit the system files, if possible, rather than install an app for it, like the Volume Locker app.
Thank you for any information.
hey, if im not mistake, you could set 'hold menu button' activites by using 'simplistic control' donation version'
Thank you. But is there a method to directly edit a settings file just to add this behaviour? (i.e. hold the menu button to access the power button and volume rocker, and leave these untouched while in camera mode?) Thanks.

i dont think so,or maybe there s but i dunno about it,lol..sorry.
Ok so I've been switching between Android & Apple for years. I absolutely love the HTC One, the best Android phones I've ever had. Infinitely better than my last Android phone, the GS3
One thing I miss though is on the iPhone, you can use Siri directly from sleep. Just press and hold the home button while the phone is asleep and Siri will come up.
Would it be possible to do that with a volume button on the HTC One with Google Now voice actions? I know right now that we can just press the power button and swipe up from the home button, but pressing 1 button is better than pressing 1 button and doing an action.
Thank you!
Oh and if you're wondering "Wouldn't you need your volume buttons for...volume? My answer is no. I can't remember the last time I've used my volume buttons on any phone, other than to initially set the volume. I use the on screen volume control 99% of the time.

it would essentially be the same as the volume music skip MOD while screen is off..
volume buttons work normal with screen on, but with screen off it can be coded I'm sure to do what you want, this wold require some serious smali skill
The volume "rocker" isn't actually a rocker but just two buttons with a bridge over them. Is there a way to make it so that pressing both at approximately the same time functions like a power button? I find the double tapping isn't always reliable and the real power button is hard to reach.
I think it is possible to replicate the power button (including hold to show power menu) by modifying some system files but I did not try it. I have the same thought like you, the power button is hard to reach. I use dt2w to wake my device.
If you are comfortable with xposed, use GravityBox. There is an option to use volume rocker to wake your device. In addition you can also modify the recent key so that double tapping the recent key you can sleep the device. With combination of both you can wake and sleep the device without the use of the power key.
I have always wondered about this too. I mean, the camera is accessible from sleep using the volume buttons, why can't we just use the volume buttons to only wake up the device?
Hi,
My up volume button and power button are not stringent as they were before. But my volume down button is somewhat stringent. I could feel it's trick thing.. does anyone face this.
My mzp is 5+ months old.
Regards,
Dinesh
It depends on your usage.
Power button is pressed several times a day and Volume up button also.
My phones always remain in vibration or silent so my volume up button is quite stringent then the Volume down.
So it's normal till it is working properly(Or is responsive).
Do not worry.
Cheers:good:
