[Q] Freeze or Remove? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As you probably read, us R800x users finally have root without having to unlock our bootloader. My question is which is better(in your opinion), freeze stock/bloat apps or remove them? Please say why you which is better

Freeze - safe way of retaining system apps in phone. If titanium were to lose back up data or fail the apps would unfreeze. But no memory would be freed from freezing.
Uninstalling - free up memory and and won't see games in Xperia play app or widgets in list unlike freezing. But you could lose back up data or app won't reinstall (star battalion app) thus losing ability to update.
I would move all unwanted apps to sd card then freeze to be assured an easy update. Unless you aren't updating officially then who cares to keep the bloat.
Also to update you will need to move all apps back to internal memory and unfreeze them.

Can I delete native apps by using Titanium Pro?

I rooted via unrevoked. I'd like to remove almost all of the native apps that can with my EVO. Footprints, peeps, etc...
I plan on rooting via Toast and Flashing DC3.0 next week but want to remove native apps to see if it helps with conserving the battery and increasing speed.
Are there any native apps I shouldn't remove? Ive read conflicking reports about removing GTalk.
Thanks in advanced.
It will say it deletes them, but it doesn't actually. They'll be there on reboot. If you do full root aka nand unlock, it may be able to delete them, but I haven't tried it out myself.
Best of luck with the root. It's a good decision in my opinion.
You're going to need to use toast's root+nand unlock. I can uninstall system apps with titanium backup just fine.
so if i just uninstall an app with titanium and refresh the apps go away...but do they really? i rebooted and didnt see them anymore but read that they are still there. well i would like to get rid of about half the apps that are on the kings r3 blakk rom and i think titanium is the only way to do it. should i delete in astro?
Once you uninstall them in Titanium Backup, they are gone for good. You'll notice TB shows the internal memory you freed up by deleting them.

i would only freeze them with titanium, the free memory isnt really that much and your phone completely ignores them after you freeze them, so they never run in your system, and you can always put them back to work for what ever reason if you ever need too

Freeze or Uninstall unwanted system apps?

I usually just use Titanium and just delete the whole thing if I'm sure I don't want to use the app at all. I was wondering what was the general consensus for getting rid of unwanted SYSTEM APPS on a root phone?
anyone have anything?
I just freeze all of the system apps I don't want. At least with freezing, if what you did ****ed something up, all you have to do is unfreeze the app. If it's already been uninstalled and deleted, you're screwed, and you will probably end up needing to flash a new ROM.

[Q] Less than 90mb free?

I've had my phone rooted for ages, deleted bloat, and about 260mb free. I did the Link2sd but this was after a few apps had updated. I've installed/deinstalled loads of apps over time but now find myself with less than 90mb free, all bloat gone, 3 emus installed, Rage of Bahamut, whatsapp, Go Launcher,Sms,Contacts. That's it. Is there an app to system clean internal memory? I use Titanium Backup Pro to back up my important bits. I've flashed firmware before to gain root after ota updates, so have a rough idea of what im doing I think lol. Just started to learn the android SDK tools and adb.
My big question. Can I backup using Tbpro: all data profiles and apps I want to keep. Flash phone (starting from beginning again as as a new phone), root delete bloat, link2sd, reinstall backups, and be good to go?
Or is there an easier way?
Also, I've never flashed new roms/kernels as I don't understand everything yet.
I only use my phone for calls, text, email, emus, few games and that's about it. Is there a Rom/kernel I could flash, to make it more streamlined for what I use it for?
Sorry for the long post and probably asking Qs you've all heard before, but im just starting to get into phone/app developing and thought, who better to ask than the guys in the know, XDA.

Link2SD has options to clear the dalvik cache and normal cache, also ROMwise if you have an r800x (CDMA) you can try Hogwart's COLA rom....both the free version and pro versions of TB can backup apps and their data, which I have used multiple times for my phone. Sometime qhen I've cleared the caches, I've gained up to 120 MBs of free space, which is really nice.

[Q] A few bloatware questions

Using an app called Root app delete, I see that apps are divied into user apps and sytem apps. All of the bloatware I would like to remove is listed in user apps.
I assume any app in user apps is safe to remove (I have disabled them for a few days to be sure) - is this a safe assumption?
Also I learned that removing bloatware equals modding the ROM and that in principle you must restore them to recieve OTAs, but would this also be true if these apps are user apps and not system apps?
Thanks
User apps are generally safe to remove. If you want to recieve OTAs, you would have to restore it to the state it was when you recieved it.

[Q] titanium pro question

hi guys just a quick question i have titanium pro and im going to remove a few apks from the system now my question is i know if i remove them and install a update to the rom it installes everything back on but if i freeze the apks instead when i flash a update to the rom will they remain frozen or will i have to freeze them again :silly:
also is freezing them just as affective as uninstalling them (freeing memory ect)
thank you
You shouldn't really uninstall any apps. The system Partition has over 700 megabytes of free space, and if you free that space you to won't be able to use it for anything (like saving pictures).
If you freeze the apps you'll get the same advantage as removing them: the won't be available on the launcher and won't autostart. And if anything bad happens you can just unfreeze the apps instead of having to install the entire rom again.
So, the answer is: just freeze the apps.

thanks for the fast reply
ya im not uninstalling/freezing apps for more space just annoying when have say 5 to 6 system apps which i dont use or want :crying:
so its best to freeze and still have all the benifits of uninstalling (like the services stop ect)
thanks:good:
also do you know that if i flash new version of rom that it unfreezes apps or do they stay frozen
If you flash new ROM with Kies/Odin it will be replaced by newr one and so you have to freeze it again.
In case of OTA (Though doubtful you may get on rooted devce), it will remain as it is OR may be replace if OTA will have update for that application.

thanks well im on omega rom so just update through cwm as usual shouldnt unfreeze apps? i know they reinstall everytime :silly:
Freezing is not only about free space.
It also means that some bloat which can cause load and slow down the phone is removed.
I think a combo of filters and label might help.
