I rooted via unrevoked. I'd like to remove almost all of the native apps that can with my EVO. Footprints, peeps, etc...
I plan on rooting via Toast and Flashing DC3.0 next week but want to remove native apps to see if it helps with conserving the battery and increasing speed.
Are there any native apps I shouldn't remove? Ive read conflicking reports about removing GTalk.

It will say it deletes them, but it doesn't actually. They'll be there on reboot. If you do full root aka nand unlock, it may be able to delete them, but I haven't tried it out myself.
Best of luck with the root. It's a good decision in my opinion.
You're going to need to use toast's root+nand unlock. I can uninstall system apps with titanium backup just fine.
so if i just uninstall an app with titanium and refresh the apps go away...but do they really? i rebooted and didnt see them anymore but read that they are still there. well i would like to get rid of about half the apps that are on the kings r3 blakk rom and i think titanium is the only way to do it. should i delete in astro?
Once you uninstall them in Titanium Backup, they are gone for good. You'll notice TB shows the internal memory you freed up by deleting them.

i would only freeze them with titanium, the free memory isnt really that much and your phone completely ignores them after you freeze them, so they never run in your system, and you can always put them back to work for what ever reason if you ever need too

When I do restores from mybackup pro it corrupts my apps and causes FCs. This has seemed to happen after I switched to gingerbread. Does anyone else have this issue? I am emailing customer support but they don't seem to have any suggestions.

I stopped restoring apps a long time ago, because of corrupted files. Its better to re-download them from the market anyways and run them off internal storage rather than sdcard. I do restore data like browser bookmarks and what not though. Tibu does seem like it is better for these type of things.
I have been experiencing the same problem with MyBackup Root.
I also switched from Android 2.2 to 2.3, stock MT4G to Virtuous Unity. After I restored my apps with MyBackup root, a handful of them force close on opening. I discovered that some of the apps which I had originally moved to sdcard prior to backing them up, need to be moved back to sdcard after restoring, and then they start functioning properly.
Unfortunately some apps, like Firefox, still force close no matter what. I've tried clearing user data, fixing the permissions in ROM Manager, but nothing would allow Firefox to work until I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I've still got several other apps I would like to recover but have not had any success. Worst-case scenario I could go back to my nandroid backup and use another backup program like Titanium for those particular apps but it would be quite a hassle and I certainly would prefer not to!

[Edit] Just noticed which forum this was posted in... Hard to say for sure if the problem is specific to any device or ROM or MyBackup in general, but it might still be useful.
The wonderful people at RerWare advised the following: In options, check "PM Binaries" and restore...
This has solved the issue for at least one of my apps, and I am now going to restore them all to see how it goes.

I was just finished installing my phone with EG22 (meaning Gingerbread ROM, not Radio), but I had some strange issue.
I installed Titanium Backup and tried to remove (force) Amazon mp3 apk. The phone rebooted into recovery and an error appeard telling Clockwork couldn't mount /system.
The phone was bricked, couldn't do anything in recovery, any action would lead to a screen with an Android logo and a "!" sign in a triangle.
So I used odin to reinstall stock Froyo (trying to flash CWM directly failed too) and now I'm rooting again in order to reflash with EG22. Any issues like these? Did I do something stupid trying to remove the app? What if I adb with root privileges and delete the app?

I delete the Amazonmp3 apk all the time. EG22 was really stable for me, too. I don't think you did anything wrong. I would just chalk it up to a bad flash or random corruption.
It was indeed very strange, never had such an issue. Is it the same to remove it via Titanium Backup or via adb directly?
Get sdx app removal tool. You can backup all your bloat before deleting them. It also allows you to restore those apps.

Titanium backup works fine for me. I have to spend a few hours in it every time I install a new ROM anyway, so I just delete and freeze apps there. Never really had a problem unless I do something stupid like delete the market or the status bar, lol.

Just removed manually (with ADB) all the bloatware, Seems to have worked fine, still finding apps like:
AllShare (will see what it's for)
Free HD Game
Nascar
SprintID (there's certainly no app in /system/app that contains Sprint or sprint)??
And that should be it, from having over 20 useless apks to having 4 is a big improvement. Still wondering why Titanium messed up my device, but well, doing it manually is also fun...

1. AllShare is useless, just get rid of it. I always do even though I forget what it does.
2. The free HD games APK is BS from Sprint that does nothing for you. NASCAR is Sprint's NASCAR app. If you use it, you can delete it.
3. I would keep SprintID. It is Sprint's weird theme applier/app installer. I don't use it but I always keep it.
All of these can be SAFELY removed with Titanium Backup. I have done it to all of them, I think on EG22 also.

Is there an app to system clean internal memory? I use Titanium Backup Pro to back up my important bits. I've flashed firmware before to gain root after ota updates, so have a rough idea of what im doing I think lol. Just started to learn the android SDK tools and adb.
My big question. Can I backup using Tbpro: all data profiles and apps I want to keep. Flash phone (starting from beginning again as as a new phone), root delete bloat, link2sd, reinstall backups, and be good to go?
Or is there an easier way?
Also, I've never flashed new roms/kernels as I don't understand everything yet.

Link2SD has options to clear the dalvik cache and normal cache, also ROMwise if you have an r800x (CDMA) you can try Hogwart's COLA rom....both the free version and pro versions of TB can backup apps and their data, which I have used multiple times for my phone. Sometime qhen I've cleared the caches, I've gained up to 120 MBs of free space, which is really nice.

alright, so my S3 is stock Rooted. Which means I have a stock ROM (LG8) and I rooted using ODIN. Basically i wanted to remove the Bloat crap that's on it so I don't keep having to run the task manager every hour to kill 56 applications that I didn't even run. So what I'm looking for is a stock ROM with ROOT that has absolutely zero bloatware. Does anyone know of one? I downloaded and flashed JellyBomb and my S3 hated it. FC, multiple installs of the apps, youtube crashed every 2 minutes and I didn't even load it.
My stock phone has recently started to lock up and FC on touchwiz now. So does anyone know how to remove the crap that I do not use? I use, Text, Voice, Chrome browser, Facebook, and the play store for games for my son. No dropbox or TALK or flipbook or any of that other useless ****. Hell I don't even use widgets as they just take up real estate on my homescreen. On my OG EVO, i just renamed the .APK in the app folder and restarted. That didn't work on this phone.
I also didn't realize I had to do some stuff with Google Wallet before flashing, when I loaded my Nandroid, my Google wallet had none of my info in it at all.
I would try team sonics freegs3. Its still a TW based ROM but during install you can choose what apps to install and the battery life is great. Another option is a cm ROM. Those are aosp so no bloat ware. As far as the Google wallet goes you are suppose to reset g wallet before you flash other wise it might be permanently damaged. I may be wrong on that subject though. That is just what I hear since I don't use it.
Good luck and make sure if you do flash wipe dalvik cache, regular cache, and factory reset.

Try out FreeGS3, it's one of the most stable and great battery life. It has Aroma installer that'll guide you through the ROM installation and from there you choose which bloat apps you want installed if any. The dev also move some apps from to /system/apps, or something, that makes them uninstalable from Application Manager.
Before you install FreeGS3 you need to flash TWRP, download GooManager from the market, grant it SU and tap menu then "Install OpenRecoveryScript". Let it do it's thing... you can uninstall the app afterwards.
If there are other app you don't want or need that are included you can use Titanium Backup, found in Play Store, to uninstall the apps. Do not uninstall those apps that are highlighted in red, except Kies that can go, since these are system app and can cause problems with the phone.
Also, killing apps in task manager is not necessary since ICS (and GB as well) kill those apps that are idle or not being used to save on RAM. you could be doing more harm to the battery life than well, I never kill an app or "free memory" and all good with an average of 18hrs of battery.

I'm at work now and don't have the time to do this right now but I'm downloading the ROM, and already have flashed TWRP. I will mess around with it tonight and see what I can do.
Good suggestions in the previous replies.....also might keep in mind that if for some reason you can't find a custom rom you like could always just go back to stock rooted and use Titanium or Rom Toolbox to freeze or remove any bloatware you don't want that may be taking up resources. Always good to freeze something first before removing just to make sure everything works the way you want. I usually make a backup of all apps after rooting a phone just so I can restore it later if ever need to.
Also, if you look around on the forum I believe there is a way to try and restore Google Wallet that has been successful for peeps that did the same as you.

So im new to all this. My last "smart" phone was pretty basic and couldnt do much. I went through the root process thinking I would like it, but so far it seems like I wasted my time. I thought I would be able to uninstall useless apps and install apps right to the SD card. So far neither have worked. I was wondering if anyone could help and explain in plain simple english what I may be doing wrong or is this phone basically useless to root and just have to live with it as is? I tried titanium backup - all that did was take up almost all my remaining phone space, change my keyboard and switch my wallpaper back to default. I tried ROM toolbox lite to install apps to SD, I checked that box in the app for it to do this- downloaded an app to see if it worked and nope. Heya Andy, welcome. you have a great phone there, and It just needs a little patience.
-you can remove any unwanted system app using whatever Root Explorer/manager you Wish, including ES file explorer!
-you can install/move apps to SD. the best way to do that would be Link2SD. you'll need to look around and read to get acquainted with it, but it's a great little app and it will let you install hundreds of apps, all on SD.
-to make the best use of your Root, you should install this or something similar.
-One of the best things you can do with root, is to install Xposed framework and use modules to customize your phone. some of my favorites are: Sense6 Toolbox, App Ops, Network speed indicator, Xsense, Bootmanager,,,. they give you great control on many aspects of the phone and add some very useful functionality.
