The system partition is written to whenever you flash a rom. I would suggest following the root procedures again, as this should rewrite the system partition. I would wait for some second opinions though.
Edit: I think maybe the root thing was just the rooted kernel. Someone will probably post a Backup file soon and you may have luck with that.

The thing is that it is not booting at all and the only thing that the computer recognizes is a QHSUSB_DLOAD something.

Have you tried to use odin yet? Just to see if it shows a connection? I don't know if you know this way to get to download mode, but hold vol up + vol down when odin is running on your computer and your phone is connected to the computer. It should automagically go to download mode...unless you deleted it when you formatted system.

I tried that. The only thing I did before restarting was "format /system" I do not know if that has something to do with the download mode

I found this for the driver...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=631288&d=1308601930
I don't know what to do with it from there though.

Did you flash clockwork recovery yet?

Don't panic it can be fixed
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

How? I flashed. that is how I got to the format /system option. Any suggestion. The driver did not help and I am running out of ideas

If you flashed cwr, with the phone off hold volume up and down at the same time and press power. It should boot to a blue cwr screen. If that happens your in great shape. then all you need is a backup image. which I can upload after work

No worries your phone is not dead, you need to use Odin to reflash. Follow the instructions or google it on youtube how to get in download mode and use odin. Search Samsung Galaxy S the procedure is same.

He can't get into download mode...

You can always get in download mode there are different ways. He has a soft brick that can be fixed. Try pulling battery then plug it in then hold both volume buttons with TWO fingers and turn phone on and when Samsung logo pops up release power button but still hold on the volume buttons then download mode will kick in.

That's what he said. I already gave him these instructions.
Sometimes on my Vibrant I had to pull out the SIM and sdcard, so I guess that's another option.

I might need to be in front of my computer to help then not driving 80mph on the highway. Lol
But i'm pretty sure it can be fixed
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Thanks all for your help. The phone is not responding to anything button related at least not all what i tried (And you guys mentioned).

Here's something else to try, since I don't think my instructions were clear.
Disconnect your phone from the computer.
Take out SIM.
Start Odin on the computer.
PRESS AND HOLD vol up and vol down.
WHILE HOLDING connect the phone to the computer.
This SHOULD do something, like show a yellow com port connection in Odin.
Disclaimer: I'm not yelling at you, just trying to highlight the important parts. I don't know your level of experience either, so if you feel I'm talking down to you, DON"T!

JAJAJAJA. not a problem. It shows the yellow port connection text box. but is not connecting to the phone it is waiting forever on SetupConnection. However, nothing is happening in the phone. the screen is still black.

again not to make you sound dumb but you have:
ODIN V1.8.4?
Samsung Kies installed but closed?
Pulled battery out?
put battery back in?
run odin v1.8.4?
hold both Vol up + Vol down, and plug the USB cable in?
Do you have another computer and usb cable you can try if the above does not get you into download mode. it could be a driver issue on your computer
I am making a backup now for you to restore if we can get you in download mode to flash cwr

[Q] T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II soft brick

OK I was trying to flash an unlocked kernal via ODIN last night, something went wrong and now phone is stuck on the phone--!--computer screen. I cannot get past this screen. vol+home+power doesn't do anything but loop to the same screen.
It shows ODIN MODE in red at the top of the screen, but ODIn won't recognize the phone, nor will Kies (not running at the same time). Computer makes USB connected/disconnected sound when I plug and unplug the phone.
I have tried One-Click Unbrick, did not recognize that phone was connected.
Help!!
which model of Galaxy S2 do you have?

there''s currently nothing to flash this phone
it came out only 2 days ago
DEV are still working on finding root
so, the best suggestion is to take it back to the store and get it exchanged
or wait a few more days/weeks until a flashable release becomes available to fix the mistake
I know, I was hasty and now this. Even when there something available to flash, the device isn't being recognized by ODIN. Any troubleshooting help for this?
When I managed to get my Vibrant into that mode I could pull the battery, hold volume up, put the battery in, press and release power (still holding volume up) and it'd kick back into download mode everytime. Once in download mode I could plug the USB in and a running ODIN would see it pop up. If ODIN wasn't running and USB was already plugged in things wouldn't work right.
I haven't tried ODIN on the GS2 yet (I'll wait for a root ). I did find the vibrant nearly impossible to brick though... trust me I unexpectedly tried quite hard.
You might need the newest ODIN for GS2 support, and possibly newer drivers.

I'm a bit new to this, but a custom ROM shouldn't affect your recovery mode. Are you sure you are using the correct buttons and methods to boot recovery?
Might want to make a new thread instead of necroing something from when the phone was 2 days old.
I have GT I9100 and done the same thing and got the same result . stuck at setup connection with odin

You should try to uninstall then reinstall driver, and try another usb port. In my experience, Odin seems to be picky, it only recognizes your phone if you plug it in the usb port that you used in the first time.

Recovery is accessed by holding both vol + and - while starting the phone. Hold them both while pressing the power button, then release the power button when it vibrates, keep holding the vol buttons till you see the recovery screen.

Kind of like when Windows throws up and causes a BIOS memory error. It is a blue screen with a bunch of exceptions and errors on it with no other option but to reboot.
To the OP can you use someone else's computer? Maybe run a registry cleaner on yours?

Reboot the pc. Uninstall odin and drivers. Reboot pc. Reinstall odin and drivers. Pull battery from ur phone. Let phone sit for about 5 mins. Press and hold power button on ur phone for about 15sec to set off remaining electical circuit charge. Put battery back into phone, and then try going into download mode.

Ok...are using another data cable other than the one that came with the phone? Is so, odin ec05. And make sure that repartition and reboot are checked. And see what happens. It should work. Don't worry about rooting until u have it functioning with just stock.

Root Gingerbread w/o download mode???

So the other day my phone pretty much got submerged in water, luckily I let it dry out completly in a vacuum chamber and it still pretty much works except for a few keyboard keys, the volume up key, and MOST ANNOYINGLY the power button. Meaning that I can't turn on my phone once it's off, I've gotten lucky in being able to turn it on by plugging in and out the usb cable, but other than that I've been making sure that it dosen't run out of battery (n I've been wakign up the phone by slidingthe keyboard out)...
I've been reading around and it seems that I might be able to remap the power button to the camera key using buttonremapper or something like that, unfortunately the phone has to be rooted and after reading up on that it seems that a one click root would work since I'd never need the power button, however for gingerbread FC09 I can only find a way to root using odin, which apparently requires download mode, which I can't access since the power button dosen't work
so my question is does anyone know of a way to root gingerbread FC09 without the need of a power button, either something similar to one click roots or odin without accessing download mode??
Thanks, any help is much appreciated
There was another thread. Where they was saying you can type in reboot download. In the terminal emulator to get into dl mode. Also if you have the tools. Take it apart clean the board with rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush. It could fix. All your keys. Just make sure you let the alcohol dry up before putting it back together. I restored an e4gt with that method. Hope this helps. I know that wasn't the answer to your question but its an alternative.

You need root access to do it with the terminal emulator........ so that's a no go... really if you are on gingerbread with no way into download mode, I really think you are stuck... there is no other way that I can think of other than maybe a jig to jump you into download mode.............

I had heard of that but didn't try it yet since I couldn't find any clear article on how to root just using that method...
I'll download the drivers and program and try it when I can, but I'm pretty sure I can access adb as it's android's development tool and only requires usb debugging to be on, and everything so far has worked as long as it dosen't require the power button...how would I root using adb?
@notsosmrtgeek: thanks for the advice, however I already did that the first time after it got wet and before drying it out...I think it was inevitable that some of the microcircuitry got messed up...weird is volume up dosen't work, but if I say anything into the phone (voice search) then it raises the volume up to the max level, lol

so I did adb reboot download, and now when I boot up it always goes to the standard android system recovery 3e, I can scroll the options but it dosen't let me select any option, i tried the home key and my power button dosen't work...and so the only thing I can do is pull out the battery and try again, but of course the same thing happens...
I decided to get the dongle to force download mode, and maybe and try rebooting the phone through odin or flashing a stock rom (even though it has stock but just to get the phone to reboot properly) and I can get to download mode and odin does recognize it, but it always says write FAIL after boot.bin, i tried different usb cords/ports, reinstalling drivers, flashing different roms in case the file was corrupt, but no luck always fail
also since odin recognizes the device, i though maybe i could do adb reboot, but unfortunately the android debug bridge dosen't recognize my phone
does anyone have any suggestions or should I just give up, and settle that this phone is bricked...

Hard Bricked MY GS2 Needing help

i had recently updated the recovery because the old one kept acting up and this one did as well like it would take for ever and when i would try to clear the cache it would just be there and do nothing only way was to remove the battery and put it back on but this time i tried to do a format instead of just cache cleaning to get a fresh install but it just never turned back on it had been trying to format for a half hour so i thought that was enough time hmm im wondering how that warranty would go cause the phone is in mint condition.
What did you update it to? And how?

If the phone responds to a charging cable in the wall socket I don't believe it is bricked. And you said it does respond to your computer in some way. Have you tried getting it into download mode and flashing a stock rom? When I had a captivate I thought it was hard bricked but I got it into download mode with a usb jig (my particular captivate did not have 3 button combo to download mode) and used Odin to flash a stock rom and went from there.
