[Q] Stock GingerBread Launcher CM7.1 - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how to install the stock launcher (gingerbread) in my wildfire with CM7.1?
Thanks...

Do a nandroid backup and try this (Protips is optional) *Make sure you install to the phone (pm setInstallLocation 0 or 1), just in case. If you haven't messed with this setting, it's fine.

Some things look out of place with this launcher.

How to get rid of sense...

Now I just rooted my htc evo with revoked3, and i would really love to know how to stop sense and keep it turned off so i can use another launcher. (for ex. launcherpro) so basically have launcherpro and my main and have sense off, and not having it reset and turning back on every once in a while.
Uninstall it with titanium backup. Do a nand backup before of course.
what do you mean by a nand backup?
Try this.....

in titanium backup, can i just freeze htc sense and it wont run in the background?
Go to settings -> applications.
Find HTC Sense and select it.
Then select clear defaults.
Press the home button and you will be prompted to choose your launcher to use. Select your launcher and make sure you check "use as default" . And your done, Sense shouldn't pop up anymore.

I have been testing as much roms as I can as fast as I can. So far I have tried fresh, baked, and netarchys. To me something would be broken in the phones functionality and they were never the same broken issues. So far I have had better luck modifying the stock rom and the op probably wants to do the same.

UnInstalled sense, how can I get it back?

I am running launcher pro and un-installed sense through titanium backup pro after backing it up. I want to update launcher pro but in order to do that I need to switch vasco to sense. Titanium backup isn't reinstalling the sense launcher. I have a copy of the rls5 zip. What is the easiest way to reinstall sense without reinstalling the entire rom?

You didn't do a nand backup before installing the custom rom? I think that would be the easiest. Flash your backup.

[Q] Copy a Free app (from market) to PC?

Hi,
I'm in Japan, and the (free) "Softbank Mail!" MMS app is the only one working at the moment. Problem is, they updated the software to 1.6 which was a huge step down from 1.5 . I didn't update, so I'm safe on my OpenDesire Rom.
I want to switch to Oxygen ROM, but I realized I don't have 1.5 version of softbanks Mail App. I am forced to download the new and unimproved 1.6 from the market.
So I want to make a copy of the 1.5 from my OpenDesire build to my PC, flash Oxygen, and install the 1.5 on Oxygen. Do-able? If so, what is the proper procedure for this (if I'm allowed to ask..?)
This app is 100% free, I am not attempting to pirate anything in any way shape or form, break any copywrite agreements, just want to use the (more) reliable version on a different ROM.
Have you tried using Root Explorer or adb and copy the apk from /system/app folder?
Oh, just adb will work? I can try that. I'll have to google root explorer, not sure what that is.
The app name on the market is different than the actual app when its on my phone. So i should just do adb pull mail?

Can you extract it from your opendesire rom zip and put it into the oxygen one before flashing?

have you tried backing it up with titanium back up and then installing the new rom, then installing titanium back up again and restoring your back up, in theory that should just keep the 1.5 version

Hi Mike, to be honest I haven't a clue as to how to do this. I would have to zip my OpenDesire in it's current state, extract, install on oxygen zip, resign, install on phone?

Hi vengeance, I purchased My Backup Pro a while back, ended up not using it because I couldn't figure it out (lack of options). I'll check into that one a bit more though.

Ok, if you haven't got the rom zip as a download you can do this..
Download 'Super Manager' from the market.
Using this you can backup the mms.apk that's currently in your opendesire rom.
Once backed up, copy it to your computer.
Download the Oxygen zip to your computer.
Open (don't extract) the oxygen zip and navigate to /system/app - I use 7zip to do this.
Drag the backed up mms.apk into the open oxygen zip so the opendesire one overwrites the oxygen one.
Close the oxygen zip and transfer it to your sdcard.
Install

Ok, used the backup program. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

Hi,
I was wondering, is it possible to uninstall the Android stock keyboard on my cell (CM7) with "Root uninstaller"?
That's pretty large, 11MB, and I'm using SwiftKey... So that could be great.
Thanks!

If you want to replace ADW, yes its possible and basicly recommended since CM uses old build of ADW, even tough its made for system use. But yes its possible. And its recommended to do it the way I have done it.
1) get Titanium backup from market, free version will do just fine
2) get an app that can browse root and set permissions (Root browser free recommended)
3) get the launcher APK you want to replace ADW with, it can be old version, market will update it to the latest.
Once you have all these
1) Rename your desired launcher "Launcher.apk"
2) Copy it to system/app
3) Set its permissions to match this
Code:
Read Write Execute
Owner X X X
Group X
Others X
4) Reboot phone
5) after reboot press home and choose your desired launcher
6) delete ADWlauncher via Titanium backup (Also any other app can be removed using TB, default keyboard for example)
Hope you get your desired launcher
Replaced mine with MIUI ADW Launcher btw
I just installed Go Launcher, and removed ADW with root uninstaller.
Working great.

yes why not... but make sure to have nand baskup whenever you do anything like that...
it can be done with dialer, msg app, keyboard, stock browser, launcher or anything like that... just install new one, make it deafult, set it up, try it few days and see if it crashes or bugs, if not, just uninstall with root uninstaller what is no more needed
