I want to know if I can remove the mobilecare app without being rooted? I hate the OTA update prompting, and I'd like it to be deleted. I'm not rooted (had to flashtool the firmware after OTA bricking) but my bootloader is unlocked. R800X. I know I can remove it with Root Explorer or freeze it with Titanium or similar apps, but I've got to re-root it for that. Is this my only option?

Yes, without root you have no write access to /system/

We now have a non-flashing root for the 800x in the developers thread!

I have the phone rooted and when I try updating to 4.0.2.A.0.62 it just says can't install. Do I have to flash it all over again, which would mean loosing all apps?
Via OTA?
Better leave it as it is.
Update via computer will remove root.
Data remains with both methods.

happened to me too! You have to flash .42 again, root before u do anything else and right after root update via OTA! ;-)
And if you don't wanna do it again next time, backup your applications right after OTA update, so you can restore it for the next OTA update (if any)
Is it not possible to unroot, and then update to 4.0.2.A.0.62 ?

Rooting the phone doesn't prevent the OTA update, messing with system apps does. (And you usually mess with system apps when rooted)

Ahh of course.. Iv'e deleted a few system apps and messed with other things (crapware)
When you put them back, you can update your firmware. When you do it OTA, you will keep your root.
Furtermore, this update won't remove any data or apps.

What should I use for backup?
Titanium backup will do, and by the way, if you find your current firmware you can try and restore one by one the bloatware you deleted or restoring any mod you have installed, I did this and I was able to update via OTA again.
It doesn't work. I flashed
LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.42 Generic Global World (EASY ROOT WITH FLASHTOOLS): http://uploaded.to/file/vmfu4czg
Used flashtools to root right away, still says can't update.
Says Could not install

You may consider either retrying (some people reported having to flash twice or thrice before it would work) or using another firmware, or using a different flash software (I did updated OTA after flashing .42 with wotanclient).
I experience this. What I did I reflash with rootable firmware then root with flashtool without removing any app then I directly update OTA. Then I successfully install.

I have similar problem and now I have a rooted .62 NAM firmware.
What I did is the following:
Flash your phone to .42 firmware with flashtools
Update your phone to .62 with PC companion
Re-flash your phone back to .42 with flashtools
Root your phone with flashtools
Update your phone to .62 with OTA
No need for step 2, 3 and 4!

Just have a rooted .42 firmware with an locked bootloader ( i seriously doubt that you have a locked boot loader )
Aftet that just update to .62 over the air [OTA]
If this doesn't works then either flash a pre rooted .62 firmware via fastboot or flash a fresh unrooted firmware via flashtool and then root it by recovery method! If you still have a problem then PM me!

Yes I know that normaly steps 2,3,4 are not required but somehow I had to do it for 3 of the Arcs I rooted.

So you never tried doing the stuff without step 2,3 and 4?? It will work for sure....cause there are only two ways (till now)to have a rooted .62 as stated in my previous post!
But you can guide someone with your method if the original two doesnt work!

I havent gone through all the posts of this thread but i think that the guy aint asking how to have a rooted .62 (incase he is then plenty of threads for it and me and my fellow members have also posted about it here)
Hes just having problem in updating via pc companion.....and the only solution i have is relocking the bootloader, i know i keep asking to lock the bootloader but thats the key to it!
If i missed any point here and please feel free to let me know! ;-)

So I forgot to use Voodoo to save my root x.x. I wanted to remove bloatware off of my Play but now I can't. I tried unlocking my Bootloader with Flashtool but I have CDMA. I tried looking everywhere but nothing works. I tried SuperOneClick and that didn't work.
Is there anyway I can downgrade to 2.3.3 or something? I just want my root back.
Thanks.

They have answers for a LOT of questions. Then again, so do these forums. Good luck!
yesterday I upgraded to 4.1.2 from my t mobile s3.. and now that when I try to open any root applications like titanium backup and greenify it says root access needed. I downloaded root checker.. and it says *you have no proper root access*.. I don't know how the supersu is still installed?? and it can not be uninstalled..? I tried to uninstall from the settings and asked me to reboot.. but still supersu was there? can anyone tell me how to permanently uninstall it so that I can root my phone again and clean install a supersu?
note: I did not have any custom rom installed. . was just having root access and supersu. .
How did you update? I'm guessing you have no custom recovery so if you want to keep everything stock but just have root, then flash the MD5 or respective root66 image for your phone in Odin

Just because you have Supersu does not mean you are rooted. What is the version after update ?

thanks.. I force stopped supersu and disabled it from there.. and it gone away..

If you want to root it use cf-auto root to root, re-enable supersu if you decide to do this

Hey guys,
i recently did this "one click root" thing, because my computer was broken. Anyway, i would like to ask if i can update system through the "Update center" or w/e the name is. If so, will the root privileges remain?
Thank you. Martin

You can't take OTAs while rooted, however you can still update apps through the update center. It us very rare to have an OTA work while rooted, so if you want to take an OTA you need to unroot.
?

It's just as simple as unroot with SuperUser? With any rooting method?
Thanks

Not always because your RCT checker will still say rooted in most cases so you need to flash back to stock.

Is that not a one time unroot? I thought that if you unrooted with that method you could not root again until you reflashed the phone.
I don't want to unlock the bootloader. All I want is root to run AdAway.
Would you recommend one-click root tools such as KingRoot or KingoRoot? Are they safe? Has anyone tested them? Thanks.
Also wondering if I will be able to install OTAs if i root with those tools.
I know alot of noobie samsung users use that stuff, but its thirdparty warez made from ppl in china and what not, theres been issues a few times when developers found out what happens when you use apps or programs like that, some discovered suspicious apps being installed and hidden during the process some also found data being collected from the phone and sent to server data storages and sold to companies, i wouldnt recomend using apps like that.
