I think the thunderbolt is pretty bad ass... but i came from a Droid X back to the Incredible just because the 3.7 screen size, thinness, and trackball just makes for a better device for me at least.
Anyone hoping HTC and Verizon release an Incredible2 with the same or slightly thinner size and upgraded specs (LTE, dual core, higher screen res.. etc) to go along side the bigger Thunderbolt?
I would love something like that. An even more refined version of this phone. It's sleek already, but as with all tech devices, will age rather quickly. Sometimes I think these 4+ inch screens are too big, the Inc is a great size. Inc2 should also have a front facing camera in addition to what you said (LTE, dual core, higher res screen). It would be my next phone without a doubt

Yeah I had an X for a while and finally went back to the incredible for just that reason. the added bulk outweighs the benefits of the bigger screen. The incredible is just such a sweet feeling phone in the hand it just feels like a super modern device.. not a mini tablet.
I have a fascinate i'm playing with now and it is definitely more sleek than the X but i havent activated it for a few reason. its still fatter and taller than the incredible, although thinner. and samsung hasnt released froyo for it.
the build quality on the incredible is also on par with the best smartphones. the buttons click firmly, soft touch back. nice red accents and the battery cover doesnt slide of so easily like moto devices.
I'll probably stick with the incredible line for a while if they keep it alive.
See, the beauty of the larger phones is that they have LCD screen types... which not only makes daytime sight easier, but you can use an app to change the LCD density, thus increasing your resolution. It's not a massive view change, but it certainly does make a difference when you think about how big that screen will be. Every little bit counts.

i'm pretty sure the Thunderbolt has the same SLCD technology that my Incredible has other than size obviously. and while you can change the LCD density with an app... it makes some apps not render correctly.

I say undervolt because i cant beleive we will not get our dinc 2 the way it should have been. hdmi out is fairly standard on top end devices.. not undervolt.. we all like our smaller dincs or we would get evo's or motorola devices... again not undervolt..big and ugly. Even when the dinc first came out with verizon it was the featured phone for only 30 - 60 days. then not even on display. and how much fun was getting the tv out cable( wich many verizon emplees told me does not exist) only to find out it does not work very well..Htc makes some of the best phones! Add verizon...Htc + big red= undervolt... too bad .

okay im thinking of buying a WP7 device but but i can't decide between Omnia 7 or LG optimus 7,
i can get either one of them in 16gb, as i can just get the omnia 7 16gb from germany change the language to english and the optimus comes in 16gb only anyway so storage isn't problem
the only difference is that the omnia is bigger and has better screen according to people, but i dont really care about having/not having an SAMOLED while the lg looks slimmer and easier to hold, and alot of people have said the back and search button on the omnia is too sensitive so im guessing that would be bad when reading or playing games
so question 1; can you stick the omina in a skinny jeans while sticking an earphone in the head phone jack or is it too big?
2: would having a 3.8inch screen on the lg affect gaming and reading books on the phone as it seems almost all smartphones are required to have a 4.0inch or bigger screens
Well i have a Mozart because of its nice "pocket-size".
But i have to admit that the Omnias screen is really nice and has a lot of advantages while browsing/reading etc, but i prefer a phone which easily fits into my pocket because i am not reading or surfing all the time.
Seriously, most of the time your phone will be in your pocket, so you have to test out, which phone you prefer
I'm posting this from an LG quantum. I believe it has the smallest screen of all wp7's. I've checked out the focus, and to be honest I don't at all think my experience is any worse. Everything comes thru clear and looking very high res. And even that would be a plus of a smaller screen, higher pixel density.
These phones are very high end, I don't think screen size will make that much of a difference.

Omnia7 has a better form factor and of course the amazing amoled, and IMHO it does matter. What I don't like with the optimus 7 is its home key button, it looks quite cheap and I believe it doesn't wake up the screen if pressed coming from sleep. As for the omnia7 back and search buttons, its true...being quite sensitive. I have a fried who has big hands and keeps on hitting it accidentally as he uses the device for browsing. For me, I already get the hang of using it without hitting it. So it takes a little getting used to but the pros outweigh the cons that's for sure especially if you say you can get the 16GB version. I only have the 8 but I'm I still have 2 GB left after all the stuff I have.

I have to always be conscious of how I hold my phone because if your finger grazes the wrong part of the phone you'll get kicked out of whatever you were doing. I type way slower than I used to type on my much smaller iPhone because I need to be extra careful when I hit the space bar; if I overshoot it by a millimeter I hit the home key. I also type slower because I can't hold the phone with my optimal grip, the capacitive buttons force you to keep your hands clear of that area.
For the life of me I can't figure out why someone would prefer capacative buttons.
I would go for the LG just because it feels better built the Samsung is all plastic and feels a little cheap.
Screen size I think is negligible in this case as .2 inches isn't really a big deal. At least I don't think so.

The size difference is about .5 I believe when you are comparing thinness.
I would say that the screen difference is neglectable at best.

Omnia 7 uses metal. Probably explains why it is 20g heavier than the Focus.

Yeah actually at first I wondered why LG would make the home button on the quantum a physical button, but after reading about the sensitivity, and noticing how sensitive the back and search button on mine are, I'm glad they did. And I assume it was on purpose with this knowledge?
You can use the iPhone as a comparison, assuming you've used one. It has a 3.5" screen, and I find it's big enough for most tasks.

IMO 4" are better than 4.3" in this case HTC really has lost their way.
That said, I wish there was a Samsung device with a 4.3" (or perhaps even 4.5") screen.
i wanted to get the Samsung Omnia 7 just for the amoled screen. But 8GB of memory is too little for me so i got the HD7. The screen wasn't as bad as i expected (coming from the HD2) its really nice and colourful.
4,3? damn before i would buy that i would go for a 7" one

The Omnia 7 has a more or less complete metal casing.
I'd get the LG Optimus 7. I compared it with the Samsung Omnia 7 in a store and I THINK THE SCREEN ON THE LG IS BETTER.
Why:
1)
Most OLED screens have a lower effective resolution than normal LCDs because they have fewer subpixels. If you compare both you will notice text on webpages etc is looking jagged on OLED displays and much smoother on normal LCDs.
Search for "pentile matrix" on google.
2)
OLED screens consume big amounts of power when the image is very bright (black text on white background like on most web pages). To reduce power the OLED is auto-reducing brightness if an image with many white areas is displayed. WTF! This would p*ss me off. At least the store units did this and changed brightness while scrolling from dark areas to bright areas on a web page.
3)
OK the black levels on OLED are better but the LG's arent that bad.
Viewing angles arent good on the LG but I dont notice this at all in daily use.
Other points:
4)
Hardware buttons instead of touch (though the buttons arent that great but they do their job).
5)
Many free LG exclusive apps available.
6)
Hacking: Integrated MFG-tool with many options like a basic registry editor without unlocking (unlock works fine btw).
I bought an Optimus 7 and its working quite well. Second on my list was the Mozart which is also very nice, but I activated the capacitive search button by mistake all the time while testing.
Optimus 7 downsides:
-Headphone out has sligtly audible background noise, even more when on an active GPRS connection
-My device creaks a bit if you press it in between your fingers with force
-Pinkish spot in center of pictures taken with camera
-Supplied headphones are a piece of **** at least compared to my Koss Porta Pro
-First unit had broken bluetooth, had to send it in for repairs, now its ok
-Ringer volume is kinda low (no secondary speaker)

Nexus Prime will be a Samsung and is looking like an October release. Seems early since specs and pictures are still unknown, but with the Iphone 5 being released in Oct maybe Christmas will be early this year

Don't really read C-net that much so I don't know how credible they are. Either way I hope it's true and comes out in early October.

Im tired of HTC and their touchscreen problems, my friend has a mytouch 4G and has the same ecactly touchscreen problems the Nexus One has, HTC is losing to Samsung big time, and Google goes to Samsung because they make mostly their own parts and makes really good phones. Cry about the plasticy feels of phones all you want, all phones will break after a drop from a decent height, I cant wait for this phone to come out!

I suppose, but it should be pointed out that the PenTile fringing pattern is much less distinguishable at a higher resolution. The Atrix at 275 ppi uses PenTile, but you really have to inspect it a lot more closely than a N1 or NS to see.

I agree but only sort-of. The 4.5" size of a Hercules or Infuse, I think that would be too big for me. But if the murmurs of a button-free Ice Cream Sandwich OS are true, then the screen can take up more of the phone's body. So we could get an Infuse-size screen with 720p resolution, but a phone no bigger than the SGSII. Maybe even smaller.

For some of us, it's not about metal being more durable than plastic, it's about the look/feel of metal vs. plastic. I don't like the look and feel of plastic, and I would even pay a hefty premium for the exact same phone if it was in metal (vs plastic).

Actually now that I'm thinking it through more, the Nexus Prime screen couldn't possibly be the same dimensions as the Infuse, because of the aspect ratio difference. So imagine the SGS2 (4.3" 800x480, 1.667, 3.687x2.212") with the buttons gone, and the screen elongated an extra 0.235" into that space (4.5" 1280x720, 1.778, 3.922x2.206"). So not as massive as feared.

Seriously. I love the size and structure of my N1. I've messed around with larger screen devices like the Evo, and they feel both unwieldy and less solid.
Really, I'd be thrilled to have something exactly like the N1, just with upgraded CPU/SoC (maybe dual core), more RAM and onboard flash, and perhaps a true multitouch screen. Ok, and maybe a re-worked power button. But really, that's all I want.
I don't need 3D, a huge screen I can't fit easily in pockets, gimmicky curved glass, or 7G radios that only last 90 minutes. I just want the N1, updated.
There's so much they got right with the N1 IMHO, it's hard for me to find something that I'd be willing to replace it with yet.

It will probably be around the same size as the HTC Sensation. Although it has a 4.3" screen, because it is 16:9 it feels much smaller than the SGS2.

Right, but since the rumoured Nexus Prime is (I stand corrected now) 4.65" and also 16:9, it'll have to be 8% wider than the Sensation - but not necessarily taller due to removal of the buttons. Although some of that width could also come from slimming down the bezel even further, if at all possible.
For those who got this as a pseudo tablet? its been almost 6 weeks I got the beauty and about 2 weeks since I got the allshare cast, and I haven't touched my roku or asus media player
Note 2 is everything for me, after using it so much, the screen size is normal to me ( compared to my previous S3 ) but I really don't mind it being slightly bigger - about 6"

Cnet: Galaxy Note 3 with 6.3-inch display reportedly in the works
The rumor is that 6.3" will be the next screen size. Whether this is true remains to be seen. Too early to tell.
With a 16:9 aspect ratio for the screen, that would mean the width of the phone would grow approximately 0.375" more, or 3.5". (Note II's width is 3.125".)
Personally, I actually like the idea. I probably wouldn't even mind a 7" (Approximately 7.25" if I go by 9cm x 16cm.) screen if they keep to the edge thinness around the screen, if not thinner. That should allow the growth of the phone to be as minimal as possible. Of course, I'd stop at 7" for the max size I wouldn't mind on my phone. Any larger and many people will definitely start having problems holding their phones edge to edge.

General Thread - thus the question
I am basically saying that since many of us got this as pseudo tablet, it would be nice to have a slightly bigger screen so we could read ebooks etc
When I got the S3, screen seemed big and then we get used to it, same with the note - but we could increase that threshold to perfection

I know but much better than carrying 2 devices, what I am saying it would satisfy being a tablet and a regular phone if it was slightly more bigger
I have no issues carrying it now, hands have plenty more room
I wouldn't care for a larger screen so much as I would like Samsung to natively support a better pixel density so that I could fit more onto the screen. Something like 182 instead of the default 240(?).
If they kept the phone the same size, but increased the screen size, it would not be too bad.
I'm wondering if the next Note could eliminate the home button. That would be one way of increasing screen real estate, without making the device too much larger. It could go fully-touchscreen, as Jelly Bean devices are supposed to be, anyway. However, I think the home button has sort of become synonymous with the Galaxy line of devices, so it may stay. I would love 6 - 6.3" inches on the new Note. I wouldn't have issues with mobility.

I would like to see no home button and screen extended all the way up and down. 6"-6,3" screen would be awesome.
I am fine as is hope they don't make the size of the phone bigger. If they can make screen bigger but keep same size I am OK with that.

This has absolutely no chance in hell of happening, for a plethora of reasons.
1) It would be going backwards, when sales of the Galaxy Note line have proven that people like phones with really large screens, so Samsung backtracking to anything smaller that 5.5" inches would be stupid, and would eventually run into product overlap.
2) The product overlap would come with the rumored Galaxy S4. The S4 is strongly rumored to have a 5" screen. There's probably a good chance it will also have 1080p, but I sort of doubt it. At any rate, there would be no business case for Samsung to have two products that are virtually identical. The S III already shares a significant amount of the Note IIs features, sans having an S Pen. You make a Note III with a 5" screen and you'll just have an S4 with an S Pen. That's utterly asinine.
3) I'm willing to bet the vast majority of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 720p screen and a 1080p screen. This is just the hype for this year. Seems like every year there a new hype geared towards sheep and ill-informed people. One year it was 3D technology. Last year it was quad core technology. This year its 1080p. Another year photo pixels were all the rave. Another year Apple's retina display was all the rave. Pretty much none of those things mean jack s*** in the grand scheme of things. I remember when I was going to purchase a new 40"+ 3D LED TV. I read many reviews to see if there was a huge difference between 720p and full-1080p HD. EVERY review stated that the only time the difference between 720p & 1080p became noticeable and worth considering, was when you had a screen larger than 40". So, if that's true, there's no way in hell anyone is seeing a noteworthy screen difference in a device as small as a cellular phone. At one point, I had a 720p Plasma HDTV and a 3D LED HDTV, simultaneously. To be honest, I was more impressed with the display on my 720p plasma, than I am on my 1080p 3D TV I ended up keeping. And I only kept the 3D television because it was packed with more features that sort of leveled the playing field.
If you desire as smaller phone, the great thing about Android, is that there's seemingly an endless array of phones to choose from. Get an S III or S4 or DNA or Nexus. Sounds like the Note II isn't a good fit for you.
Currently I'm sure I can't tell the difference between 1280x720 and 1920x1080 for a 5" display. When I finally break down and admit I'm old enough to use reading glasses (which I should have done years ago as my close focus distance moved from 7" where it used to be to 13" now), then I suspect I will be able to tell the difference when holding my phone closer than 8". Other than focus, I have no issue holding my phone that close and I'll be able to get that much more detail into my brain (from maps, text, whatever). You can call 1080p hype if you want, but I think it is still actual progress. I don't know what photo pixels are, and I was not interested in 3D myself, but 1080p I am optimistic about.
Sorry if I'm not following thread rules or something - I'm just saying what I was thinking. I agree that Samsung Note 3 will quite likely go bigger, especially if the S4 is bigger. Who knows, anything could happen by the time I get another phone - maybe the glasses concept will be so appealing, I'll go that route.
I chose the Note II because a) I wanted a 5" or more display, b) I wanted to try out the s-pen concept which I don't know if it will be for me or not till I try, c) I wanted a big battery, and SD storage, d) I don't want to change carriers since as much as I don't like AT&T for many reasons, I'm on a family plan which I don't want to change and they are the only carrier with good coverage over my work campus. I ruled out the Nexus 4 and the Droid DNA pretty fast though I looked at them. I absolutely didn't need LTE and my data experience with AT&T around Los Angeles for a few days and Las Vegas for a few days has been very unimpressive - no better than my previous 3GS iPhone. Hopefully that will improve as the network improves.
Anyway, it's pretty early to speculate now - I better get back to figuring out how to use my phone to get my core iPhone use cases working again: podcasts, visual voicemail (both of these use cases require installing add on software I've found), offline topographic maps (I have 3 programs I've been trying on the Nexus 7), and a few other things. For ROMs, the HyperNote sounded the most interesting to me, but it seems like the AT&T model won't run many ROMs yet (e.g. no HyperNote yet) - I hope this is some transitional issue as porting ROMs from the International to the various carrier versions (which is a huge annoyance to me that this fracturing even exists) is worked out.

This. I wouldn't want anything physically bigger, but if they can remove more bezel (and NOT remove physical buttons), That would be sweet.
Trying to see what factors influenced people here to get a 4.3" screen over a 5".
Portability is a good reason but how do you reconcile that with decreased readability of a smaller screen.
The trend was to move from iphone size screen over to 5 inchers. 5 inches seems optimum. Anything bigger and it becomes unwieldy. Now it seems we're going in the opposite direction.
So given a choice over the Z1 or compact. Why would you go with the compact ?

i am really, really glad someone took the step to release a 4,3"-phone with descent hardware-specs. I just want to reach all corners of the screen while holding it in one hand. Can't do this with 5" or larger. Also, i don't need 5" for any reason on my mobile. I got a Nexus 7 for watching movies, playing HiRes-Games and all the other stuff, a large screen is good for. So 4,3" on the mobile is perfect for me because it fits into the pocket and i can use it one-handed.

And as a bonus a better IPS-display.
I moved from a Galaxy S3 which I'd had for 2 years. My main worry about getting the Z1c was the smaller screen. And after having the Z1c for a couple of days I'm getting used to it.
I do find the keyboard letters smaller but. I do love this phone. It's far speedier than the S3 and I find the text shaper.
I'm not missing the 4.8" S3 at all.

Underlined bit is a major reason i've heard people mention for not going beyond 5 inchers.
Time was you could not make a screen that big and be able to use it one handed. Things have changed. many people think the Z1 is very close to the size of the note 3 yet only offers a 5 inch screen.

What about web browsing though ? granted reading on a 5 incher isn't all that great either. but does going smaller make it worse.
Not talking about ppi or anything just wondering whether the reduced screen estate gets in the way. If you don't do much browsing then its moot. But part of owning a smartphone is being able to do just that. To browse on the move.

i rarely use the browser. For most things (Wikipedia, Facebook, Amazon, Imgur, xda, etc.) i use the appropriate app. And reading within those apps doesn't make a difference between 4.3" and 5" for me. So: no, i don't browse a lot (by meaning "browsing" in the classical way using the browser), but gather information using the mobile apps. Which works just perfect for me. Especially as i changed the dpi to 280, so there's a bit more room for content.
If i had a chance to choose from z1 to z1c ill get z1c. Battery and screen size. Ratio of battery to screen size is almost perfect. I hope thwy should keep this ratio.

Size. 5"+ is a mini tablet imo and impractical for one handed operation, and for some reason manufacturers seem to have thought this far that everyone wants a big screen which for me just isn't the case, where as the Z1 Compact is perfect for a "mobile" Phone.

I've had the HTC One X now for nearly 2 years, and coming close to upgrade time so had been looking around anyway, however, started a new job five months ago and was given an iPhone 5 as my works phone.
Both on the same network, so has been a really good test for me to compare the two OS's back to back. And while the iPhone has loads of really nice features, there are so many things it lacks (and also performs really poorly on, like dealing with anything in a poor signal area), which has made me really prefer Android.
The only one thing that I really like about the iPhone 5 compared to my HTC, is the size... it's made it feel massive, and now I've used both side by side, I really notice how much nicer a smaller phone is to use day to day.
Went to look at all the other 'Mini' phones, and they're all the same spec as my current HTC One X, which considering it's nearly 2 years old, seemed pointless to pay for a 'new' phone, when it's no better than my existing one, only smaller.
Then the Compact was announced, with same high-end specs as all the other flagship phones, and fit the bill perfectly!
I bought a Z1c after a "Hands-On" in a shop and I had the same reasons as many others: Size and Spec
Size:
Some people state that the size of an IPhone 4s is perfect, some other prefer a 5". So it's more a point of view and taste.
I've had many "hands-on" with different devices and for my taste/usage everything above 4.6" would be too much.
If possible I still like to use my thumb for scrolling, etc and with Z1c I can reach almost every corner of the screen.

Yeah, that's a very improtant reason. A phone ought to be portable if it isn't then you're compromising for something else.

Perhaps you might wanna take a thought about waiting for the next 2 or 3 ROM-Updates from Sony before "getting rid of this piece of crap"? Time tells us that newly released flagships might get better with new FW-Versions....

Power to weight ratio.
Z1c endurance is 65 h, whereas the Z1 is 53h. The browsing doubled in time compared to the Z1.
Let's see how real world screen on times compare but i expect they will be better based on gsm arena's benchmarks.

If it´s really a software issue. I mean my cam is making yellow pictures - this cannot be a random software issue. I have to use my nexus 4 to make photos, that´s crazy, why do I have this new phone?
But for 500€ it´s not ok that sony is selling untested smartphones

i remember pictures being pretty crappy on my HTC One last year. Some firmware-updates really improved quality a lot. So don't underestimate the mighty power of good firmwares.

I browse the web a lot on my mobile when I'm on the go for quick bits of info, and the size difference between the HTC One X, and the iPhone didn't make a great deal of difference, as you still need to zoom in on most non-mobile optimised pages either way.
Although if I know I'm going to be browsing for a long period of time (20+ mins) I'll always jump on a PC as it's much easier.
The reason I went for the compact if the normal was the IPS screen. Much better viewing angles and improved design.
I'm not bothered about screen size at all. But I don't spend all day looking at my phone to be honest. Better in the pocket that a big screen phone also
