It will start going out in middle 2012

We've seen that statement before. But with Samsung owning both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S(which gets ICS slightly after the Galaxy N launch) It will be nothing for the Euro GSG2 to get ICH. But as we all know the carries in the US will add months if not quarters to that.
So what I'm saying is don't hold your breath for anything on US SGS2's.

Thank goodness for xda. I bet we have it before the nexus galaxy comes out. And with full root and mods.

the euro/att version will probably have it soon, but the Epic Touch seems to be a whole different animal.

Just enjoy your phone people. History shows that the branded phones will get the OS updates in the middle if 2012, a long time away. I for one love the touchwiz ui on this phone and am happy with it. There is nothing I need the phone to do that is doesn't do with gingerbread.

We will get it when CM9 comes out for our device. That will be the first we see of it.
No ETAs. Don't ask me and definitely don't ask them.
So get to praying for (or helping with) getting CM7 running now to help with ICS later.
Me? I'm no worry. The phone kicks ass as it is. Enjoy it.

This phone with Ice Cream Sandwich will bring it to another level. Once that happens, I won't feel a need to even want the Galaxy Nexus. Will definetly be able to wait a lot more patient for the SGS3!

Is this nexus prime phone coming to sprint? i read online it would be nov. 24. but why release a phone with almost identical specs to our phone, on the same carrier?

My guess is since the Nexus One is not officially getting it, the Evo 4G isn't officially getting it, either.

While there is no official word, hence the word "guess" in my post, the Nexus One is definitely not getting ICS through official channels. With the N1 and the Evo 4G being very similar, hardware wise (same processor, ram, etc), that is my reasoning behind my guess (again...a guess, as I'm not in a position to make such decisions) that the phone won't see ICS through official channels. If it does get the update, I'll consider it a gift.
One thing to note; google and manufacturers have come to an agreement to support phones for 18 months. That's rapidly approaching (Jan 4th, 2012). I'd be surprised if HTC even releases a phone before then, with ICS. How long from source drop did HTC release a phone with Gingerbread?

Well the Nexus One has older hardware, as the evo technically.
The evo most likely won't get it 'officially', but in terms of ports, yes.

Why should I buy this phone?

So I saw in a post on my sub forum you can get a Nexus S for about 60 bucks. I've played with this phone before and I loved it. I thought it was true good to be true, and I want to buy one sooooo badly.
SO the point of this thread is for you Nexus S owners to talk me into buying this phone, or talk me out of it.
Any recalls? And as of now I have the Samsung Epic 4G as my current phone and was wondering if the nexus isn't a good phone compared to my epic.

I reccommend it to those who don't mind being early adopters which means bugs, and are not gamers/benchmark whores.
Games play fine, but it is not the fastest gaming device out there.
If you want latest and greatest software, this is it. It is not perfect by any means but.it.is enjoyable as long as you are not a perfectionist.

No way will this device have jellybean by quarter 3. This device doesnt even have an official ICS build and that came out early quarter 4 last year. If samsung does release Jellybean for this device it wont be until probably around this time next year.
Think i remember reading somewhere that jellybean is tablet only. Besides why would they release another os update for phones when ics has barely started to appear on some phones.
What was it 2010 when honeycomb released for tabs.. ya then they're due for another os update.
edit: guess it could be for both phones + tabs..

Ice cream sandwich WAS supposed to unify the Tablets and phones but I dont think it is going the way that they want it to. So from what I have been reading Jellybeen will be another attempt at unifying both device segments.
Rumors are rumors for a reason. Because people make **** up about others to make them look bad to make themselves look better. Rumors are rumors, and that's all they will ever be. Guaranteed there will be at least 10 more rumors about the next version of Android before Google I/O 2012, maybe more. You know why? Because rumors are rumors and that is all they will ever be.
Q4, just as it's been each year for the bext android os.

Yes, and it's all just speculation, but I mostly meant that we probably won't see any official development for our phones till long after that if it is announced then.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I think your looking way too far into that, for anyone who is considering this, they will announce it, maybe, but that's all your looking at; Google telling you what their working on. It's gonna be April and devices are barely coming around to ICS, let alone the E4GT, well officially....
Even *if* it is released in Q3 I doubt Samsung will roll this out for the GS2 and variations unless there is a very (read: cost-effective) reason to do so. It would be very close to the end of the average 18 month support window. Need further proof? Look at the Galaxy S/i9000 and see if they're getting ICS officially. (So far the word I've heard and seen is "no.") Then again, did the original Galaxy S sell even close to as many devices globally versus the GS2 and all variations?
Regardless of the official decision down the road, I'll bet that even if Samsung doesn't roll out any newer releases for these devices you'll probably see people take the initiative and do it on their own. The Linux kernel will probably not have another version update before then so drivers and other components from ICS builds should hopefully fit into JB.
That's my speculation on it, please don't treat this as anything but.

Updates to Sprint Galaxy Nexus?

I'm really considering the Galaxy Nexus for my next phone. I'm just concerned about updates because of the crap that is happening with the lack of ICS for the EVO 3D. So, does the Sprint Galaxy Nexus receive updates as fast as other networks?
And, I don't root, so don't tell me to do that to fix updates.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using Tapatalk 2
Your outta luck if you don't want to root. Sprint sucks with updates. And we already have a port of jelly bean....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You're just waiting for Sprint to approve the updates after Google completes them. As with Verizon, it's going to take some weeks after the GSM model gets it for any CDMA model to get it.

We don't actually know anything yet. The Sprint Galaxy Nexus came with 4.0.4 out of the box so there's been no need for an OTA previously and Google has not officially released 4.1 yet. So we've got no specific OTA experience for the Galaxy Nexus. The nexus S 4G did not get Ice Cream Sandwich very quick but neither did many GSM Nexus S. There were problems with the ICS rollout across the board. But here's hoping that they'll get Jellybean right. Of course the rest of us have been using JB for a long time now because we'll he damned if we're gonna wait for Sprint. Or even Google for that matter
You can flash JB without root.
Waiting for ota's is not allowed here

Thanks for the answer, guys. I wish Google would come up with an easier solution because the carriers are screwing us.
And, for those of you screaming "root", you don't understand that some don't have the time to do it. I won't give up my limited family time to figure it out. And, trust me, you don't want to live my day. If I was still young and single, I would probably do it.

Rooting takes a matter of minutes.... This is a Google device. It's not a locked down HTC. However flashing and keeping up with roms and such is where the time comes in. I know plenty of married people on here..... With children.... That always still have time to mess around with their phone. you don't have to be on here everyday, you can't still root and keep up. just think about it a little more.

If you come to xda with such question, one expects an answer with the word root in it. Why we do it ......... custom Roms, kernels, in depth screen settings, etc, and the must important aspect in my opinion..... the hard work put in by people that love open source.
After flashing jelly bean, I personally do not need to be trying different Roms, maybe theme or kernel, I am the only person that has bragging rights to my friends to say I have the latest and greatest os on my phone.
And for that I thank you all

Honestly, I remember back in the Epic 4G days when Samsung had the reputation that they did not support their devices, but it appears they've changed their attitude and now they're releasing updates like mad, even more efficiently than HTC is (at least for CDMA-based devices.)
If this is true, then the Samsung devs in charge of CDMA development will start porting it over to our devices. Perhaps we'll see RDFs in the next few days?

I had an Epic as well and it seemed like Samfirmware was our only hope. I share your sentiments and look forward to any changes Samsung is willing to make with regards to device updates.
I'm from the OG Epic as well (from its release to the s3 release); It is really refreshing to see them pushing out the updates for this phone!!
I too am from the OG Epic. People continuously blamed Samsung for the slow updates for it when in reality rdfs were being generated and test releases sent to Sprint almost daily and within weeks of the international update. I think the less intrusive touchwiz allows for faster updating. So hopefully we will see some rdfs reported soon.

Also a fellow OG Epic user ... boy I miss that phone (still drooling over that keyboard), but also love my GSIII. Nice to have the OG Epic family reunited here. If Samsung releases a 4.2 update for the GSIII in the near future, I'll take back all the bad things I said about them
hah what are the chances that 4.2 gets released before the s4 marketing train comes rolling through town

That's because this phone is available for all major carriers. The Epic was only for Sprint thus Samsung relied on Sprint to advertise who decided to push the Evo instead.
