Juice Defender Ultimate Help - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi all,
I installed Juice Defender Ultimate on my E4GT and it told me of course I needed to install the free version as well for it to function. So I did this as well. This left me with a total of 3 icons in my applications.
So i figured I would try and do it the other way around, uninstalled them and installed the free, then the Ultimate after that. Still it leaves me with 3 icons. One for the free version and 2 ultimate icons.
Is there any way to do anything about this? I would rather not have 3 different icons for juice defender ultimate listed in my apps.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't even think you really need juice defender, as were task killers were pre-2.2 days juice defender probably doesn't apply. I easily get 12 hours of real world use out of my phone. Your better off just carrying a spare battery as I think that app isn't as clean as it used to be. Or try Tasker instead

Battery extending apps like Juice Defender and most task killers do more harm than good. With gingerbread and above task killers are not needed as the o/s does a good job of managing applications. the Samsung Epic and Galaxy 2 phones have a task killer built in, its a widget called "Program Monitor". The Evo 3D also had a task killer built in.....

What does Juice Defender do that is harmful? There's no app-killing going on.

I think Juice Defender is pretty awesome. I haven't managed to tweak my settings properly yet, but once I put the "extreme" profile on, I got almost 2 and a half days of moderate browsing, phone calls and a LOT of texts.
@tweeker, I'm not sure how you got 3 icons. I got the free version first and then went to ultimate, so my experience was a bit different. But now I just have the Utlimate icon in my app list. Maybe you can uninstall all of them and then go the route that I took?

Juice defender any good?

I am using chads incredikernel with HAVS and i was wondering if. Juice defender would be of any help. I with typical use my. Battery gets to 30 by 7 or 8, and sometimes I cant charge it until 11. By then it's basically dead. So i am looking for ways to improve battery. I have the think 2500mwh battery.

Towards the end of the day when I hit around 20% I turn off 3g. With 3g off I can get 2 hours out of every percent if I use it like a normal phone... calls and texts.

I use Juice Defender(paid version) and love it. It's a great app! I have noticed since using it that my battery goes way farther than without it. If you get the free version, you will probably not see the gains as well. I'm using the stock battery and get close to 2 days on a charge with moderate use; internet, phone, angry birds, and etc..
I used to use the paid version of juice defender. I stopped using it because every day my phone got slower and slower, and then i disabled JD and my phone was slick again. It's a great app and it really did improve my battery a lot, but the fact that it made my phone quite slow sucked.

[Q] Battery Life:

Which is more helpful to the battery life on the Evo: Advanced Task Killer or Juice Defender?
I'd go against both...never saw a need, but juice defender would be better.

what would you recommend if you're against both of these?
Personally, I don't think they're needed, as the phone is smart enough when to kill something, or let it run in the background. And its been shown that task killers can do more harm than good.
Juice defender doesn't kill your tasks it just turns if the 3g when your phones screen is of and the battery life is amazing with juice defender it is just unbelievable everyone should use it if they have an evo.
I've had some success with JuiceDefender. ALthough keep in mind that the difference will be small. ATK is not really necessary or helpful usually
Task killers are useless on 2.2 and above.
you dont need any of them, the OS does an exceptional job on it's one with Gingerbread im at 8hrs and 10m on the stock battery and im barely at 40% with moderate usage, phone calls, emails, texts, live facebook updates and a few games of angry birds and some web browsing

Juice defender

I finally tried juice defender and within 5 minutes of enabling it got a LOS and before that I was on xda and market and it wouldn't load anything. I had it on balanced settings. Any one else experience this? After all I read it does t seem like it does anything more than disables 3g data when your screens off. I don't use wifi or blue tooth so that doesnt matter to me. Uhg this app frusterates me
I have no problems with this at all. I bought the ultimate to use all its features and it does increase my battery life by 3 hours max. Ive tried it on all the settings, Balance, Advance and Extreme and never had an LoS problem with it.
I have heard Green Power Pro is better but I don't use either atm

Juice defender has been a saving grace. I got a LOS the first time I used it but not once since. My battery is lasting a stupid long time. I mean it takes my phone a hr to go from 99 to 98%
I'm gonna wait to root.the only reason I want to root is for customization.coming from the
Evo which was a killer phone to have due to all the roms that were out for it.
Every time I flashed, it was like getting a brand new phone.I'm just not seeing the
support for this phone that the evo had.this phone unrooted is still an awesome phone.
I too need a reason to root.hope some killer roms come out sooner than later.
Thanks for the feed back guys! Is there a program that tell me what programs are using the most cpu and shows graphs and battery % a hour of usage statustics/

Juice Defender Ultimate and WiFi Calling

Hi guys!
So I use Juice Defender Ultimate to squeeze out that extra juice from our wonderful phone. And up until now everything was fine. But I realize now that because I will be relying on WiFi calling to be able to use my phone at home (and in most other places that I go since I know WiFi uses less battery than network) I will need WiFi to always be active. I was reading my settings in Juice Defender and I can't figure out what setting I need to click in order to always keep wifi active. Any ideas? Is it even worth it to use Juice Defender anymore now that I always need wifi to be on?
Thanks for all the help!
In Juice Defender's control setting there is an "Keep enabled" setting, click on wi-fi to make sure it is always enabled.
Thank you! Is it worth it to use Juice Defender anymore if I use this setting? Will I still see battery enhancements? I was seeing JD reporting 2x battery...I doubt I will see that now...
IMO, Juice Defender is completely unnecessary.
You can set almost every single of the options manually in their respective apps/settings.
What is the point of putting a blanket on your phone that controls how often things update? Just change the settings in the respective apps/settings..
For example, I use LauncherPro Plus.. in my FB widget settings, I have it set to update every five minutes.. why would I put another app on that blocks it to only update every 15 or 30 minutes? That's not "saving" battery, it's resetting your update time interval. If I wanted to do that, I would just set LauncherPro to only update every 15 or 30 minutes..
I can give more examples, but to me the whole thing is pointless. Why would I want a 4G phone that's super fast if I'm going to hobble it to Edge and save AT MOST an hour or two of battery?
Honestly, I get the same or better battery life with my phone the way it is setup without Juice Defender. I've yet to find one reason to use it, and yes, I have the "Ultimate" version.
What I want is a phone that's always fast AND gets great battery life. It's not a magic trick if your turning everything off (Sync, Wifi, 4G) and getting a hour or two more of battery life..
You will still see battery enhancements, but not as much. Wi-fi uses less juice than 4G.
To the above poster, the point of Juice Defender is for it to turn things off when you don't need them. It's also convenient to globally set your syncing. I definitely get way more than a bonus 2 hours of battery life using Juice Defender more like at least 5 hours, and it doesn't really interfere with my daily tasks. I definitely do not need 4G on when my screen is off, and it syncs so I am perfectly fine with that. 4G is a huge battery drainer so I want that off whenever I can.

Rugged Cases with batteries

New Android user here coming from iPhone. I pre-ordered and i5, and just thought wow, apple isn't even trying anymore. So I returned it and got my S3. My main complaint would be battery life so far, Thats ok though, thats why people make extended batteries right. I do force myself to use a rugged case, my phone usually hits tile or concrete 2 - 4 times a week, so I just don't chance it. Also i prefer the cases with the screen protectors built in, they seem to last better than the one's you attach Anyone know of a rugged case that allows a bigger battery inside, or even has a batter built in with a screen protector? You would think someone would make one?

Welcome to XDA and the world of Android, you will most likely never look back.
First things first im not sure if you're aware of what rooting is, it's similar to jailbreaking an iPhone, you can basically do so much more, details on how to root are posted in the main page in case you didn't see it.
What i would suggest to achieve excellent battery life which is what i get is go to Google Play and purchase the excellent https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackupPro&hl=en one of the most useful apps you can have.
Then what you do is basically freeze the Samsung bloatware that causes unnecessary battery drainage, i guarantee you that your battery life will improve lots, never use any apps like Juice Defender as they use up more battery than what they save, also download the excellent
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5hc2tzdmVuLmJldHRlcmJhdHRlcnlzdGF0cyJd this app will tell you what is eating away at your battery, turn off bluetooth and GPS,etc when not in use as they can also cause battery drainage.
Finally if your looking for a rugged case (without the battery as you wont need one) i can 100% recommend http://www.case123.com/Urban-Armor-Gear-Cases-s/266.htm i just got one myself and it's brilliant worth every cent.
Have fun :good:
Thanks Jonny, I do have an HTC View tablet so I am used to android and have rooted and played with that one. The battery on the phone doens't seem that good, I do have advanced task killer free, so maybe that's causing it.
i'll try those apps and see what's causing it, i do have advanced task killer free on the phone for shutting off tasks but no battery programs.
Why would titanium backup doing backups cause better battery life? I've already purchased that and have it on my tablet. I wasn't planning on rooting the phone, will it work without it?
I did go through and saw a guide on how to shut of Samsung services that were running and I did that yesterday, we'll see today how much that helps. Not sure if that will give me enough extra battery to be safe.
I'm a network engineer and tend to use my phone a lot during the day, the first 3 days i've had it, i've been between 2 and 5% battery by end of day, and these have been medium usage day, so I know I wouldn't make it through a heavy day. I'm in the Houston TX area so we do have LTE here which may be draining it more as well.
This was the only case i'd seen that was half way rugged and allowed or had an extended battery on it.
Can't post a link yet, but the Seidio Active extended case is the one I was talking about.
Seidio

I get a full day out of heavy usage or 1 1/2 - 2 days out of medium usage, get rid of advanced task killer too that will only cause more harm than good.
Basically with Titanium Backup you will be looking to freeze as much bloatware as possible (it can also do a lot more besides this, best utilities / tools app ever) here is a list of stuff you can freeze http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634624
14 pages long but well worth reading, perhaps LTE may have something to do with it as well we still have shockingly slow broadband in Ireland so something like LTE isn't gonna happen here for a long time.
You definitely need to root the phone for Titanium to work, don't worry you can also unroot no problems, rooting your phone is simple as is unrooting, i would highly recommend anyone with an Android smartphone to root it, the possibilities are endless (custom ROM's are the way to go)
After you have froze the bloatware your battery life will improve substantially no doubts about it,i wouldn't delete any bloatware though just freeze it, most of the bloatware you are unlilely to use anyway but if you do need to use it just unfreeze it, simples
