I set the reminder to either notifincation bar or alarm and neither one actually works.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
EDIT:
See post #6 for the fixings.
Same problem here. This is killing me as I use this function constantly. I am not getting notified on gmail calendar or exchange calendar.

Setting up calendar events actually works. I just tested it - a popup does occur in desktop calendar when I set it through the phone.
But absolutely nothing happens on the phone itself.
Is it like that for you too?
Yep, same thing here.
Does anyone know of any widget style calendar app which can force notification/alert for upcoming calendar events independently from the built-in android version (which obviously doesn't work on this phone)?
I started using the free Calendar Snooze from the market on my Evo, mainly because the Evo didn't have (or I couldn't find) a built in snooze, and it works well on the E4GT too. It's very configurable, gives a full screen notification, and will even use text to voice, if you want it to.

Thanks, I am trying it now.
Calendar Snooze works just like I want.
Perfect.
I just asked in IRC, and people said their alerts were working just fine.
I wonder if it's a common app me and gfsnic have...
Right now, I can only think of one calendar related app I have installed - Simple Calendar Widget...
Works fine for me. But the alerts I use were set up within the calendar app on the phone. Are you guys setting the alerts on the web?

So out of the blue I received a text message and got the standard notification from the sms app, but I also got a second notification I hadn't received before. Its the envelope icon from cupcake I believe, and it alers of unread messages and links to the standard sms app just like the black smiley icon does. Thing is, it doesn't go away after replying or reading and I find it really annoying. Tried installing and uninstalling handcent and chompsms hoping for a fix and nothing. Also defaulted the stock sms app to no desired results.
Anyone know how to stop/remove this?

If you have installed any app for sms "like handcent", then you will have to go to the settings of either one you dont want and turnf off the alerts. That way only one will notify you
Yup. You gotta go into your stock messenger and menu then uncheck notifications.

That's the thing, even by disabling all other notifications, it still shows up. And its I'm using hancent at the moment, that notification shows as well as the second one (which links to the stock android sms app)
Here's how its set up regarding notifications:
Stock sms app: all notifications off
Hancent sms: green smiley notification set up
And still this mysterious second notification linking to the stock sms app still appears.
I had that same problem on my device too. I had to do a factory reset and it fixed the problem.
Make sure you back up your apps before doing it.
Aparently that notification its not from stock. Maybe something else you have elsewhere. See if you can identify the icon and that way maybe you can tell what it is.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. I had to change this for my wife. I don't know why you can't access the sms options through the main beautiful widgets settings. Very annoying. I went through every setting option looking for this!
Been having this problem too, and I have BW. But for the life of me I can't find the BW sms widget??

My E4GT is running UnNamed rom. I installed WidgetLocker. I found that the notifications are not working correctly, so after some research here, it seems people are resorting to using SMS Unread for the notifications. However, when I used that, the gmail notifications are still not working. So, of course I researched here some more to find that apparently, there is an issue with the newest gmail app with these notification programs. Does anyone have another app that works or a walk0around this this to work?
Thanks

I use ADW Notifier with ADW EX launcher. Notifications appear in Widget Locker, but Gmail notifications won't be working again until Google makes API changes
Try this patched version of Gmail:

Thank you for the reply. At least I'm not wasting time trying to fix something that I can't fix.

Hi,
I have installed me another calendar app (aCalendar). When i get notifications in the topbar my phone uses the build in calendar. How can i avoid this and use aCalender?
Thanks
Ateshga
You mean you're getting both default calendar and aCalendar notifications at the same time?
Go into the default Calendar app and select the account it's synced too and uncheck the sync box. Then it'll stop notifying you because it won't be synced to new events.
You need to clear defaults for the gmail app. then you can select which app to do the action you want next time you click it.

Doesnt work here.
Is my calender app perhaps the problem? It uses the build in calendar so it might not handle the notifications...
Am i correct? Dont i have to use another app? Which one do you use?
Thanks in advance
@martonikaj no i just get the googlecalendar notification. Sorry overread your question in first place...
Bye
Hi
It doesnt work till today. I tried several calendars now (jorte, quick and lately business calendar) The problem remains The Same: when i pull down Thema notification bar where The event notification pops up and select the event The phone jumps in the Google calendar.
Is this an ICS problem?
What am i doing wrong?
Please help.
Thx
Ateshga
Whichever app is providing the notification will open when you click. You need to set up notification with your desired app and disable notification in the unwanted app - of course, having said that, I'm not sure those options are available, so it may just be easier to freeze the undesired app instead...
Hi i now found my failure: i got what i paid for. Free apps mostly dont support notifications.
I now bought an app (business calendar) and all is fine now.
Seems i have to learn a bit more about the android world.
Thx for the help i got ...
A.
I started using Business Calendar. I removed notifications for the default calendar, but I forgot to remove sync. The notification bar would never clear, now I think I know why. Thanks martonikaj.
Hey guys I'm on Jellybean and this being my first smartphone, I'm not sure how to go about this. I have seen people with iPhone get notifications (popups) when they have an upcoming event.
Is there a way to do that with the galaxy nexus?
I dont want a changing color LED or a ringtone, just a popup on screen near the time of the event. If not a pop-up, just something at the notification bar. Thanks
When creating / editing event, scroll towards bottom and you have option to set a reminder and timescale for the reminder(s). Can have notifications on phone and/or an email reminder

Notifications/reminders as in "Pick up milk and eggs" or "call xyz at 7pm"? Grab a tasking app like Astrid (it's free from the play store) and it will do exactly that (and much more if you want it to)

You can set reminders in the form of an alarm from Google now.
For example: if you say "remind me to pick up dinner at 5pm" it will set an alarm with the tag "pick up dinner" for 5pm
calendar snooze is an excellent must have addition to the stock calendar. Its excellent.
From all the reading I have done, it appears that the unread count not showing on the gmail app is a known issue? When I get text messages, I see a "1" overlay on my messages icon. But not for Gmail. I did see an app in the play store that is "supposed" to fix this. Or would I be better served by flashing a custom rom. It seems pretty absurd to me that an OS made by google doesnt have overlays for Gmail.

I think that's a TouchWiz feature. And thats why it only works with the messages and built-in email app, etc.
I use Nova Prime, I think the pay version of most launchers includes that. But, I never found a free launcher that did it.
Sent from my HOCKS
Nova might do it, if you install the tesla unread plugin, but I'm not sure. Picked up Prime when they had the $.25 sale and have loved it
Tried out nova prime with tesla unread plugin and it works decent. Without some app I don't know of a way to get the unread number on not stock apps.

When I have new emails in my Gmail account, there's a little icon in the notification bar. Ans when I swipe it down, it even shows me the titles of the emails. I know this doesn't solve ur problem, but it works for me.

I have the same thing. The notification bar just seems very crowded to me and I end up overlooking the notification. More of a personal problem than anything but would be a nice feature to have standard.
