My E4GT is running UnNamed rom. I installed WidgetLocker. I found that the notifications are not working correctly, so after some research here, it seems people are resorting to using SMS Unread for the notifications. However, when I used that, the gmail notifications are still not working. So, of course I researched here some more to find that apparently, there is an issue with the newest gmail app with these notification programs. Does anyone have another app that works or a walk0around this this to work?
Thanks

I use ADW Notifier with ADW EX launcher. Notifications appear in Widget Locker, but Gmail notifications won't be working again until Google makes API changes
Try this patched version of Gmail:

Thank you for the reply. At least I'm not wasting time trying to fix something that I can't fix.

Hey Guys and Gals of XDA,
Kinda wondering if anyone has come across an app that will change how android handles when we get a new gmail email.
Currently when you get a new email you get a notification in the drawer.. Im looking for an app to change that. I dont want any notification in the drawer. I just want an unread email number to show up on the icon on the home screen. SMS message app does this when you get a new message.
If anyone has any known apps or wants to develop one id be full game..
Thanks
That is not possible for the time being. It used to be, but then GMail removed the API that allowed this (for security reasons)
http://www.launcherpro.com/2011/07/09/upcoming-changes-to-gmail-app/
We will have to wait until GMail offers this through some other type of functionality.

Use the plug in for Go Launcher (Go Notifications), of course, implies that you have to use Go Launcher, but it's a very good launcher.

The same problem I mention affects Go Launcher too (as well as any other apps that used to provide unread count)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.golauncherex.notification&hl=en
-------Important--------
The Gmail app has updated to new version and the API we uses to access your Gmail in our Notification app is being removed in Gmail.
We will continue support Gmail notification if your Gmail app doesn’t update to the newest version. But once your Gmail is updated, the notification option will be removed from GO Launcher.

So, this is a gmail thing, don't upgrade to the latest version or downgrade to the previous version. I haven't upgraded to the latest version, my notifications show up.
I set the reminder to either notifincation bar or alarm and neither one actually works.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
EDIT:
See post #6 for the fixings.
Same problem here. This is killing me as I use this function constantly. I am not getting notified on gmail calendar or exchange calendar.

Setting up calendar events actually works. I just tested it - a popup does occur in desktop calendar when I set it through the phone.
But absolutely nothing happens on the phone itself.
Is it like that for you too?
Yep, same thing here.
Does anyone know of any widget style calendar app which can force notification/alert for upcoming calendar events independently from the built-in android version (which obviously doesn't work on this phone)?
I started using the free Calendar Snooze from the market on my Evo, mainly because the Evo didn't have (or I couldn't find) a built in snooze, and it works well on the E4GT too. It's very configurable, gives a full screen notification, and will even use text to voice, if you want it to.

Thanks, I am trying it now.
Calendar Snooze works just like I want.
Perfect.
I just asked in IRC, and people said their alerts were working just fine.
I wonder if it's a common app me and gfsnic have...
Right now, I can only think of one calendar related app I have installed - Simple Calendar Widget...
Works fine for me. But the alerts I use were set up within the calendar app on the phone. Are you guys setting the alerts on the web?

No, from the phone.
As per title, is there an unread counter for sms/calls/gmail (which works on gmail)?
thanks

as written in the comments, this is not working for gmail since update to 2.3.3
AFAIK there is no working unread counter since GMail changed their permissions for the app.

And for the GMail problem, try this workaround.

It's a livewallpaper but it does work with all the notifications you ask about with Android 4.x .. the wife messed with it for a while. I was fine with the missed stuff being in the pull down so I never downloaded it. She likes/liked it well enough .. don't know if she's still using it.
This is one of Android's most frustrating things: not having a uniform on-icon notification system. Widgets are fine, but I really don't need yet another widget taking up space, when I already have the icon on the desktop.
I hate the way the notification bar is implemented. It's too small, too ugly and it get's so cluttered that it is hard to tell at a quick glance what the notifications are. Frankly, the iOS notifications bar implementation is way better visually (if you agree, check out the app iPhone Notifications in the Market).
On-icon notifications work randomly. Even the stock launcher does not show on-icon notifications for the stock Email app (not GMail). There is not notification for Google Voice (why, is beyond me). The whole scheme is a mess.
I have kind of been able to make things work with ADW Notifier in Chuck Noritz Mode, but ADW Notifier does not seem to be supported much nowadays, so the service FCs multiple times a day.
I wish that someone would bring in good implementation of on-icons notifications, or that Google redesigns the whole notification scheme and streamlines it.

Looking for the same thing, tried NOVA launcher but they left our that most important feature. To me that is #1 most wanted thing in a launcher, before all else.

If you want it on your lock screen then use WidgetLocker with ADW Notifier. If you want it on your home screen or on your dock then use ADW EX with ADW Notifier.

Yeah, ADW Notifier is pretty much the only thing that sort of works, but as I said above, it FCs constantly and it is inconsistent. Go Launcher also has a notifier, but it works with a much more limited number of apps (you can't get notifications for Google Voice or the stock Email app, for instance).
So far, I have not been able to find a reliable on-icon notifier for Android.

I can't speak to your experience, but I have used ADW EX and Notifier since I got my Nexus and haven't had any FC's or problems with it. That is when applying it to Gmail, the stock messenging app, and the Phone app since that's what the OP inquired about. None of these require the use of Chuck Norris mode, and at least for me none have failed yet. My main reason for switching was the big **** LauncherPro took on ICS, and have been happy with the results since.
ADW Notifier done FC only for some particular aplication not for sms, Gmail, K9, missed call, but for for some sms aplication like go sms and other, a lot sms app in fact adw notifier works until the next reboot
It's the reason why i stopped using it, Missed it is good, personaliy now i use Executive assistant for sms, missed call and K9, Gmail.
There is a free version , try and see.

Well, as I mentioned above, many of us use Google Voice for voicemail (instead of what's offered by the service provider). GV requires Chuck Noritz Mode, and it works most of the time, although it often shows "?" instead of the number of vm messages.
Many of us also use email accounts which are not GMail -- the stock Email app also requires Chuck Noritz Mode.
ADW Notifier has not been updated in a long time, I hope the next update is soon and it fixes some of these issues.
In fairness, it is not really ADW's fault. It sounds like the Android notification system is a complete mess, with no clear standards for developers to follow.
It is simply amazing that even two of the main Google apps, Google Voice and Email, cannot handle notifications properly, like Phone or Messenger. Very sloppy.
From all the reading I have done, it appears that the unread count not showing on the gmail app is a known issue? When I get text messages, I see a "1" overlay on my messages icon. But not for Gmail. I did see an app in the play store that is "supposed" to fix this. Or would I be better served by flashing a custom rom. It seems pretty absurd to me that an OS made by google doesnt have overlays for Gmail.

I think that's a TouchWiz feature. And thats why it only works with the messages and built-in email app, etc.
I use Nova Prime, I think the pay version of most launchers includes that. But, I never found a free launcher that did it.

Nova might do it, if you install the tesla unread plugin, but I'm not sure. Picked up Prime when they had the $.25 sale and have loved it
Tried out nova prime with tesla unread plugin and it works decent. Without some app I don't know of a way to get the unread number on not stock apps.

When I have new emails in my Gmail account, there's a little icon in the notification bar. Ans when I swipe it down, it even shows me the titles of the emails. I know this doesn't solve ur problem, but it works for me.

I have the same thing. The notification bar just seems very crowded to me and I end up overlooking the notification. More of a personal problem than anything but would be a nice feature to have standard.

Hey Guys
Just wanted to know is there anyway to get the little bubble on top of the Gmail app? Similar to the Email app, it has a number displayed above it which tells you how many emails you have before going into the app, but Gmail lacks that for some reason.
Any ideas?
i'm using Tesla Unread, but it requires Nova Launcher or WidgetLocker.

Anyone have any issues with Nova? I tried installing it but every time I clicked on my gmail widget, the phone would revert back to touchwiz.
Is there anything more to it then search and install?
