Hi,
so I managed to S-off my Desire using Revolutionary. But now I would like to change the HBOOT.
So I put the PB99IMG.zip file on the root of the SD card and boot the phone holding Volume Down + Power, next the message '... PB99IMG.zip not found ...'
Why does this happen? What can I do?
Grtz
is it definitely named PB99IMG.zip in capitals? Is it definitely not ending .zip.zip?
Alternatively try "Android Flasher". Not saying it's better, but it's a workaround.
I'll say its better
yeah, it's all in caps. :s
But i'll check out android flasher tomorrow, thanks guys!

No but I was about to download a new table from Alpharev in this zip format and change my table sizes for more data space. Thought of asking this in order to know what to do if I also happen to run into the same problem.

Its usually something to do with the file name. itmust be exactly "PB99IMG.zip" not "pb99img.zip" or "PB99IMG.zip.zip"
You'd be surprised how many people have that last one.

Not yet, i'll post an update when I found the solution.
You can always just try it yourself, there's no danger if the file isn't found.

Can I run this in Ubuntu 11.10? Maybe in Wine or something? My dual boot isn't working anymore
Hmm wouldn't trust wine with something this important. You can just drop the fastboot file into ubuntu and use the commands from the fastboot faq in my signature. If you can wait an hour, ill upload the fastboot file and tell you where to put it...
Then from a terminal just type the command. Dead easy

Not sure about ubuntu. Just follow rootSU's advice, he's more knowledgeable than I am.

I fixed the problem, don't know why, but I just reformatted the SD card (with Gparted, exactly the same as I did the first time). And now the PB99IMG file was recognized, so I was able to install the new HBOOT.
I would stil like to have the fastboot file though, I've been looking all over the place for it!
Thanks again everyone.

Its here, go into this link then right click, save as

drop it in /usr/bin then you never need cd to a directory to run it.
Thanks! Should come in handy one of these days...

I have to exchange my EVO to Radio Shack and I just can't find a way to leave the phone back at stock settings!
I am currently rooted with Toast's method and running the Baked Snack 9.6 ROM. I have tried running the RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe file but it keeps saying that it cannot connect to the phone, even though I have tried it both as USB Charging only and Hard Drive only.
PLEASE, anyone can help me? I have SEARCHED the forums but haven't been able to find a way to do it properly.
You might have a better chance asking this in Q&A section, or else you are going to get lit up by the cops here.

Done!
I had the same issue and this is how I did it:
I turned off the phone. Turned it back on holding the volume down key and power key. Selected FASTBOOT, then I opened RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe and it worked perfect.
Just remember that your phone will no longer be rooted (you won't be able to can't access the recovery).

Ok, I got to the FASTBOOT link and selected it. Then it switched to FASTBOOT USB. I ran that exe file on my PC but it still says that it can't connect to the phone. It keeps saying ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR
Get the update.zip from the RUU
I believe you can also open your temporary directory.
Start, run, %tmp%
Do a search for update.zip and copy it to your sd card and boot into recovery.
If you can't find the update.zip it MIGHT be named something else, so try searching for *.zip, or delete all your temporary files, open the RUU, and then search for *.zip.

so the first part of the commands using fastboot you don't do from adb shell. when you get the phone into fastboot, attach to your computer, you then open command prompt on computer and navigate directories until you are in the android sdk tools folder on your computer wherever it is (most people it is somewhere like c:/android-sdk-windows/tools/)
THEN you type
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot

no adb shell.
most people have installed adb in such a way that they can access it's tools from any directory. however, at least on my computer, fastboot commands will only work from within the android tools folder where fastboot is located.
hope this helps.

how do i transfer the files for the second part of the usb is broken?
I was following the one that has pic by pic, and got to the point where pc36 wouldn't work. Saw that with the newest version this method wouldn't work. Went to the tutorial for that workaround and started following that. I think it got mixed up in there and thought i had nand unlocked it. Went to install the new radio, checked the system info and it wasnt the new one and started to get the problems.
Think it is rooted though because i get the # in adb shell.
How does one check to see if they did unlock nand, besides of the problem causing method i did?
I believe i ****ed up the custom recovery part. When I would load custom recovery it would flicker back and forth to the stock recovery, dont know if thats normal.
update: with more searching i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7136621&postcount=128 to use a update to fix the usb.
I did this and at least now it is charging, still not connecting to computer though it will charge through comp.
Can i flash back to the stock rom now? Will that fix it? How do i flash the stock rom?
Laughed at the thread title. Is the phone messed up, or the girlfriend? Gotta love misplaced modifiers.
If in fact you are rooted, you can use this method. It will put you back to "stock" with root and all the latest updates. If your computer wont mount your phone, you may have to get a micro sd card reader and plug it directly to your usb on your computer to download the files you need. Just make sure the phone is off or you unmount the sd in settings before you remove it. Or you can download them from your phone's browser, but you'll need a file manager to move the files to the root of your sd. If that wont work, your sd card might be corrupted.

Hi everyone!
I am trying to make Ad Free from the Market work but it won't. My HTC Desire is rooted with unrevoked (so, not S-OFF, but I've read that it's not necessary. Is it?).
I have tried two different things:
1) Run the program WITHOUT the symlink option enabled. The phone automatically reboots and nothing happens, adds are still shown in all the apps.
2) Run the program WITH the symlink option enabled. The program seems to work and a message appears saying that my phone should now be add free. But, in fact, it is not, adds are still visible everywhere.
I have been looking for solutions in this forum and in Google but I have seen a lot of different procedures suggested by users and I am not sure it would be safe for the phone to try them one by one.
It would be great if someone has been in the same situation and could tell me how to solve my problem.
Thank you in advance.
You either have to be s-off in order for the app to place the modified "hosts" file in /system/etc/ Otherwise you have to have the file symlinked to a specific place on the data-position(this is the place the app places the "hosts" file if you check the option for symlink.)
You can also just push the modified hosts file from recovery
edit: my suggestion is to s-off it, as it makes everything so much easier, and if you screw something up, you can almost always recover your phone without running a ruu.

Anyway, how could I do the "you have to have the file symlinked to a specific place on the data-position(this is the place the app places the "hosts" file if you check the option for symlink.)" part?
You need to edit the ROM to symlink the hosts file to the /data partition

S-OFF doesn't work with all kinds of desire phones ...
some PVT-4 (like mine) cant be S-OFF u may brick it trying so just push files its safer using terminal emulator from market or using ADB

Well, in alfarev web site they say their software is compatible with PTV4 HTC Desire, but anyway mine is PTV3, so the problem can't be that.

Also no you cannot use terminal emulator to push files, and you most certainly cannot use it to manage files on the /system partition without s-off.
Dj Telo: the most common problems with alpharev is connected to the computer the software is run on. Are you using an emulator to boot the disk, or are you actually booting it?
If the first one is the case, you will need to burn the image and boot it, however, if that doesn't work, you might need to try another computer. Just borrow one, as it is a onetime thing, and it only takes a couple of minutes.
Also make sure your current rom is not using d2sd, d2ext or something similar, as the tool uses the data-partition and may not work with the ext-partition,
I am very sure, you do not s-off to run adfree!!
Did you run "download & install hosts" directly after starting adfree and requested the superuser request to "yes" and "remember"? Which ip do you use?

Well as already explained the relevant file (/system/etc/hosts) is placed on the system partition(obviously). And as such it cannot be edited while the system is booted without s-off, so an app won't be able to do so.
So unless the system has been edited to load the file from the data-partition(as in the symlink option i referred to earlier) yes you do indeed need s-off to use the app. However as you might get from actually reading through the thread, the actual problem has been resolved, and currently he is just trying to gain s-off.

what PB99IMG did you flash? are you branded?
i used this
PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_r elease_159811_signed.zip
i tried also every other pb99img i could find... but other din't work at all
should i have a goldcard or rooted phone?
i think i am not branded, but i am not shure ://
if you have your phone on contract with e.g.Orange, O2, Vodafone etc then you are branded.
With a branded phone you need a goldcard to flash an unbranded PB99IMG.
To create a goldcard follow this tutorial. Notice however you need to skip the part where they find the CID of the SD-Card using the phone, and use this tool instead, COPY DOWN THE CID WITHOUT ANY SPACES, COMMAS ETC. JUST LETTERS/NUMBERS. Then follow from the tutorial.
Once you have a goldcard try to use the same RUU you used (PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_r elease_159811_signed.zip)

The phone isn't rooted though it's s-off thru sunshine and that's it
take the OTA.zip from somewhere, unzip it and the the firmware.zip.
You only need the android-info.txt from your current firmware.
Take out ALL .img files, download TWRP and rename it recovery.img zip it with android-info.txt into a 2PS6IMG.zip
Put this on your external SD card, shut down the phone. press volume down + Power.
Press volume up (IIRC, might also be down, its written on the screen) to flash the file.
done.
