My phone started doing this lately and I restored/unrooted my phone and it doesnt get hot anymore. I've had my phone for 3 weeks and I rooted it on day 1 using zedomax's overclocked rom. Had no L.O.S issues at all but all of a sudden it started getting hot. Im gonna root again when he releases the next update....I miss my rooted phone already :'(
I use midnights rom without the Zedomaz OC kernal and use Z's stock kernal because I was having problems with receiving calls and texts.

Phone seems cool, BUT when I got my phone stock, it only ran hot with WIFI on and charging.
My phone also gets hot when I use it. What are your guys settings? Like brightness setting, or if it's OC& UV. The
I have my brightness lowered to the lowest setting and then changed he file again to lower it even more thanks to other devs and users.

Do anyone have a sugestion for the over heating
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I suggest flashing StarBurst 1.6. I had overheating problems on stock doing basic things too (web, call, light gaming.) Ever since being rooted for about a week, no overheating since. Highest now is floating around 43 degrees celsius, and idle is 24-30.
I think the overheating has to do with the Android OS bug from what I've been experiencing on my phone. SB1.6 got rid of some background process that may help to lower AOS and overall heat output. Good luck.

My phone gets hot in a similar fashion and I am stock.
I think you may be correct. I experience the AOS bug as well.

I have tried countless roms, and kernels over the past 6 months. It has become my new addiction since I stopped smoking! Haha. I'm running samurai 1.4 and my battery is hitting 100 degress F. Mind you, this is on the charger. Anyone know what's good and when to be concerned?

If you use your phone and have it overclocked while its charging its gonna get hot. (I assume ur overclocked since u have that kernel)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yeah, its overclocked but nothing crazy. Usually keep it at 1100 since I use it so much. I suppose this was a pointless post. If its gonna get hot, then its gonna get hot. Thanks for the reply.

System panel is a great app to check out...you can monitor CPU as well as battery temperature. If your pushing your CPU, its gonna get hot, like previously stated...but maybe if you monitor some things you may be able to cut down on app usuage to help the CPU out...good luck

Is there something about ics that is making the phone run so hot, on aokp, cm9, and calk's 1.6 the phone is really hot after the screen is on for about 10 mins
I've had this issue once. Usually due to my phone not liking a kernel. Go back to a GB rom and if it doesn't persist then u found ur solution.

hapen when ur running many things on ur phone like watching video will make ur phone hot or playing games its normal
Mine did the same thing. I been using RubiX Reborn rom and it actually solved my problem. Even with wifi tether it doesn't get hot.

Is something driving up your CPU usage? The fastest way to check that might be to see what's draining your phone's battery using the usual methods.

I had same problem. For me the fix was getting LeanKernel 2.0.
4 hrs screen on time! Its the best for my phone. Since all kernels are device specific it might not be best for you.
To get it go to T-Mobile gs3 go to original dev and download lean kernel 2.0. Make sure its 2.0.
T-Mobile and AT&T work the same. If you use one of the other 4.2 ROMs on here I think Liquid smooth it comes with Lean kernel pre installed.

I would suggest to update to his latest version. It no longer RC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845836
If that kernel doesnt work for you, you can always try Ktoonsez kernel here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
But for me personally, his kernel and the stock kernel that comes with Task's ROM always make my phone hot and battery drains faster. But many people report those kernels work great for them.

Keep checking your processor settings, on my phone, it kept over clocking and under clocking randomly. Even without me touching the settings. Or get a widget to help you keep an eye on your ghz.

No no. Like it would randomly change the setting to 1.9/1.8 ghz max. Sometimes it would set the max to 1.1 ghz. I donno, it was weird. Maybe that's your problem, maybe not. Every phone is different.

Oh OK no my CPU doesn't do that It just gets hot for no reason.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
The same thing happens to me. It's not really hot, it's just kind of warm. It only happens when I'm using the phone, when it's locked it sleeps just fine and keeps cool. Otherwise it heats up and drains my battery in the process. CPU Spy shows my clock speed switches between 384Mhz and 1.5 Ghz depending on what I'm doing. My CPU usage isn't consistently high, even if its at 10% it still does it, seems quite normal. I can turn off data, wifi, bluetooth, and location services, doesn't help at all. I've tried resetting my battery stats, where I charged to 100%, cleared stats, depleted fully, then charged too 100% fully. No different. The heat comes from the bottom of the phone, maybe closer to the right side about an inch from the bottom, it is not coming from the battery. My battery usage shows high usage on the Media process or the Android System process. Ending either of them does not help, so I'm assuming they aren't actually using the battery like it says they are.
I'm running Liquid Smooth 4.2 beta 2, same as OP, with leankernel 2.2. It does the same thing with KT kernel, I've tried undervolting but it persists. I've also had this issue running slimbean, Liquidsmooth RC8, and RC9. My battery was pretty good when I used to run stock, and it was absolutely amazing when I ran LiquidSmooth RC3 and RC5.
I have tried both jedi xp-8 and cleanrom 4.0.5 and also clean room with Perseus kernel and no matter what, I keep having performance issues that are most noticeable in gaming and benchmarking. No matter what, my phone is limited to around 40fps or 14000 in antutu. Even overclocking to 1800 it does not do any better.
Update: occasionally when I first restart the phone I will have normal performance but then it goes away.
Details:
I317m - Rogers note 2
Clean flash using TWRP
Currently on cleanrom with Perseus kernel
Thoughts?

I actually have the same problem. I even went back to stock and reflashed the rogers modem but I'm getting LTE maxing out at 8mbps and wifi (which is at 60mbps on my laptop through wifi) and my benchmark is at 14000 on antutu at 40 fps. Kind of regretting flashing right now.

I'm going to try doing a full brand new flash of Jedi XP-9 and not installing any apps on to my phone to see whether or not I have the issue on a fresh flashed ROM
I noticed this issue last night while watching a high FPS movie on my note. But the FPS counter didn't slow down until i hit 15% battery with the screen at full brightness which is what I always keep it at. Other than that I get really good FPS performance.

It appears as though something had gone wrong with every flash I had done. It was retaining bits of old kernels and messing things up. Started all over again and now back on jedi, and it's all working fine.

Hello all. I have recently flashed AOKP and I am loving it. My only problem is that the phone gets really hot. And not just on this ROM but on anything other than full stock. Why is this? Is there a fix? My friend told me that installing a custom kernel can help. Is there any truth to that? Thank you.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
It depends on what you're doing. Of course using alot of apps or playing games will cause the cpu to run at full speed. Its going to get warm.
No just from texting or using the web simple things

Its a known issue on the GS3.
Don't worry about it too much.
The processor is made to handle heat, and it doesn't come close to failing from heat.
If it really bugs you, you can always try a custom kernel and undervolt and under clock to see how it runs.
My GS3 runs extremely hot playing games, (Real Racing 3 to be exact, and it ran so hot I honestly thought the motherboard would start melting lol) I flashed a custom kernel, undervolted and it runs much much cooler now.
But yeah don't worry about it too much
It was made for that

I would try flashing the KT kernel or any other custom kernel u may prefer and see how it runs with that kernel stock settings and then tweak yo or like from there. Keep in mind all phones are different so some ones else's set up or settings may not work the same for u
