USB brick on HTC Desire HD the correct thing I'm on about? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking mainly if someone can point me in the right direction regarding an issue.
My phone I got off a mate doesn't ask me when I plug it in via USB what I want to do. I understand there are settings that I have changed for it to ask me what to do. Charging works fine with phone off and booted.
I have tryed cables that I know are for data as well as power ( checked both computers and with a kindle and gf's cyanagenmod phone both work.)
Some might say my mate tryed to root it. I have asked him and he only did one over the air update. He has no gain from lying as he said he would pay for repair( replace ment of the USB board as I belive the phone has a upper and lower board.) Trying to save money (hes a mate and I'm not going to mess him about.) and a save a repair that might not be needed or even fix the issue.
I have cleaned the port with a small brush and cables have a normal "snug" fit.
Futher to research on forums I think I might have a USB bricked phone. At one point I unmounted my SD card while USB dev mode on and I got " USB not reconized". At this point I unplugged the phone to then install drivers. Drivers did not work. Now you may think broken but my experince says if the connecter was broken that it wouldn't even charge as I belive the outer pins are the power.
When I look up desire hd USB brick online I get only results for desire phones not desire hd. With desire issues seems that the phone needs to be rooted barr one walkthough that's once again geared towards non hd desire.
My points are-
Am I correct to look at this as my phone could be USB bricked or does this issue only affect the desire model of phone. Belive it could be caused by the ota update.
Has anyone else had this issue? If you got the phone fixed did a lower board replacement correct it?
Any links to further reading or solutions would be great help. I feel I'm failing to describe my issue in the correct terms if it is indeed a USB brick.
Cheers for reading this post, 2nd in length only to my life story...

Can you provide more info like what ROM and kernel you're using? Also, do you have a recovery image you could flash?

My understanding im am using "stock" HTC software on my phone and it never has been rooted or had a custom rom installed (yet - fingers crossed ).
This is from "About Phone" then "Software Infomation" in Settings.
Android Version - 2.2.3
Kernel Version -2.6.35.10-gd2564fb

I also think i dont have a recovery, as when I do a boot holding power and volume down and click recovery its loads for a bit and then shows a phone with a red ! next to it.
Just to learn, I am correct from what I have read that the kernel is just like a modern OS kernel for a laptop/desktop. Its the part that makes the software and hardware talk?

When you got the phone, had the phone gone through a data wipe (factory reset)?
...And you've tried using the USB connection via another computer as well?
...And in the settings, under 'Connect to PC' you have 'Ask' checked?

The phone had a factory reset done via android settings menu and when you hold power and vol down.
Checked settings and it says ask.
No dice on another pc double checked the cable with kindle and data transfer was ok.

I also have the same problem with my desire hd.
Trying different roms didn't seem to fix it.
I'm thinking of sending it for repair.
First i want to flash a stockrom, witch seems quite hard if your USB doesn't work.

[Q] Bricked Desire Z

Hi
I've got Desire Z with latest Visionary rom. Everything worked fine till today. My som played Angry Birds and suddenly phone turned off... I was unable to turn it on - pull & put back battery doesn't work. When I connect charger - nothing, unable to boot, black screen, charging led not working. I connected DZ via usb to my notebook - it found QHSUSB_DLOAD device and nothing more. I read somewhere at xda, that it could be burned motherboard. Any ideas to bring it back to work ?
Greetings - Tom
Hi,

I got only logo htc and nothing more. Than I tried restart phone more times and now it not response to power button. I get only black screen. If I connect tel to pc it found device QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Interesting is that i played Angry Birds few hours before scrash.

I bought this phone yesterday and it was already broken. Phone dont start and if I plugged them to PC it defined as QHSUSB_DLOAD device.
Previous owner said that phone was finally broken (from died memory chip to QHSUSB_DLOAD mode) when it lying on the table with battery.
fried emmc is a prdoblem with certain chips on these phones. do you knoew if it rooted? boot into bootloader (hold volume down while powering on) and write down everything on that screen
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
In QHSUSB_DLOAD mode phone cant boot into bootloader, unfortunately..
I ask previous owner about root, will see what he says
There people solved same problem with sensation but no solution for DZ granted
Phone is s-on without root
unfortunetly if you can access bootloader or recovery there is nothing that can be done other than jtag.

bootloader and recovery has no available currently. I know that a long ago..
Do you know how repair via jtag or via qhsusb_dload mode?

as far as I know no one has made a way to unbrick with the qhsusb_dload for the vision, I only looked into that project once when I got a doubleshot for my girlfriend, just to see what its all about. I believe there are only a limited number of devices that dexter (I think that's his name) support, the vision not being one of them. also this will only help under certain circumstance. if you have a fried emmc than you can't read or write to it and I don't believe even jtag would help. but not having access to bootloader or recovery just makes it nearlly imposible do anything.
now there are people who have the knowhow and equipment to jtag the vision, and they probably charge in the $50 range. this *may* get you access to your bootloader and then of course a full stock rom/radio/spl/etc would be forced to you phone but again without knowing what caused the brick it is hard to say

Thanks.
May i ask dumb question? bootloader is stay in emmc? or another storage?
For example, desire s with died emmc setup to boot from microSD and it works!
I see no problem with replacement emmc but boot from sd is easier if bootloader alive, of course
And jtag-board with soft is so high price..
yeah the bootloader partition is in the emmc, if that is just borked (not a fried emmc) jtag will fix it. you can't boot from sd because you have nothing working, cathedral (I think that's who it was) discovered how to boot off sd in these situations, and yes that works with the g2/dz as well, but even then you need a somewhat working recovery
jtag is probably about the same as a new logic board, maybe a little cheaper. but if you can't find someone to do it for like 20~30 bucks then buy a new motherboard for like 60~80. or learn how to do jtag yourself, the equipment is rather cheap (sometimes can make your own cable) and the software I believe is free. someday I plan to learn myself (got a couple dead g1s lying around) but for now I'm no help in that regard

if bootloader hold in emmc.. so i really want to know what is written in cpu-memory)
I believe all partitions are held in the emmc, the cpu is just like the command center and decides what to do and when to do it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
above CPU exists another flash-drive but i dont know anything about data located in this storage.
sorry I couldn't tell you, haven't looked it to this much but to my understanding is that all partitions are held in the emmc. I guess its possible that the larger system parition is located in a seperate nand but I don't think so. I'm sure a little googling will turn up a breakdown of all compenents on the logic board if your interested and where memory is alocated

[Q] Htc dhd dead?

New to the Desire HD, finally got so p*ssed off with the poor GPS performance on the SGS that I bought a DHD from Fleabay.
Worked fine for a week, genuine seller (checked not blocked etc).
I let the phone run completly flat, now it will not respond to anything. Plug it into the PC and in device manager it shows
QHSUSB_DLOAD with the usual (if no drivers are installed) exclamation mark.
The phone itself doesn't show any sign of life. No LEDs,vibration or sounds. It will not go into recovery mode. It is on Orange (if that makes any difference.
I do have insurance so will send it off if necessary but I wondered if anyone has any ideas?
There seem to be similar posts but only to do with partitioning.
Pull the battery for a minute. Put the battery back in and then put it on the wall charger for a little while. Then try to turn it on again.
Done that, also tried the freezer trick.
Still dead! Checked charger, swapped charger, haven't got a different battery but I can't imagime the battery would die completly, but could be wrong. Won't even switch on with charger connected.
BTW what are the connections for on the battery and bottom covers functions?
I have flashed many different ROMS on the SGS (currently Darkies Exreme edition) is it as easy on the HD?
Many thanks

HTC Wildfire S Problem with digitizer replacement..

Hi guys I'm new at this, but here is the thing if anybody could help I'd really appreciate it, she let the phone fall on the floor and the digitizer screen broke, so she bought a new replacement and gave it to me to fix it, I mount everything and when I turn on the phone everything works except the digitizer, it does not work at all, I checked every connection and everything is fine.. Big Thanks, it's works
make sure you closed all locks at those LIF sockets, the connections might be faulty when failed to do, no matter how precisely you put the connector on its place... also be aware that there are two pin rows on the socket, so even slightly pulled out connection will be faulty... got same problem with display when reassembling waterlogged phone, skips in connection made the display look like very poor CRT screen
same problem
Hi guys,
i have the same problem, but i can't activate the usb-debuging. That means I can't create a gold-card, which is needed in the link posted above :/

new digitizer also, screen touch screen not working, help please tried every thing. does the phone need to be rooted to do the gold card.. would this even work.. done a few wildfires. and this is the first one i have a problem with...
Had a similar problem, 1st replacement digitizer would only respond in a small part of the screen. Figured it was a faulty part so ordered another one from a different supplier. This time none of the screen would respond. Phone was set to 'charge only' and debug mode was disabled.
Tried this:
https://sites.google.com/site/repairlinks/htc/htc-wildfire-s-calibration
Formatted the MicroSD card first. I got a different message in step 7 but continued to follow the instructions and it worked perfectly!
New HTC Wildfire S digitizer not responding.
So I have been having a similar problem. I am attempting to replace the digitizer on my friend's HTC Wildfire S. The first time I replaced it, it didn't work. So I bought another replacement part made sure I was buying for the right model (tmobile). After installing the new one it still doesn't work. I have been trying everything I possibly can to get it to work. The first thing I tried was creating a gold card but I can't because usb debugging isn't turned on and I can't access it to get the CID. I have also tried rooting it but that also requires usb debugging. Then I tried loading the CalibrationWildfireS files onto the sd card and go through the steps (located here: https://sites.google.com/site/repairlinks/htc/htc-wildfire-s-calibration) and ran into a security issue wich caused it to fail. I have put a lot of hours into research and attempts at trying to fix this but I am stumped. Can somebody please help me. Facts: The phone is tmobile (gsm), bought a new gsm replacement, the touch screen is unresponsive, usb debugging is off and inaccessable. Assumptions: this is a software issue (pretty sure), there is a solution.

You have security fail because you didn't create a goldcard. Try generating the CID while in USB Fastboot. Can you do this? I mean does it show the white HBOOT screen when u press VOLdown + POWER buttons? Or it doesn't work AT ALL?

Yes I can load it into the fastboot and it shows the HBOOT screen but when I tried to get the CID for the goldcard it just didn't work. I thought it was because usb debugging wasn't turned on but I'm not sure. What is the process you recommend to get the CID?

[Q] Verizon says I own a Paperweight Help.

I have wrestled with this phone, and searching this forum and others looking for an answer and none have been found yet. Here's my situation.
I own two HTC DINC2's. My wife's wouldn't power on. Talked with Verizion Tech Support and they led me into HBOOT to try to clear cache, then to factory reset. After each attempt I get the HTC White Screen, then nothing. I must pull the battery out to reboot. We took it to a Verizon store, and they said there was nothing they could do. (grumble)
When I plug in my phone to my computer, I get no USB support. Windows 7 says the USB device has malfunctioned. So most directions to root or flash the firmware instructions are of no help. The phone will also not charge. When I plug it in, I get the amber light for about 30 seconds, then it shuts off.
HBOOT menu reads as follows...
**** LOCKED ****
VIVO_W XB SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0000
RADIO -1.09.01.0312
eMMC-boot
Jul 18 2011, 12:39:36
I have formatted the SDCard and tried a new PG32IMG.zip file. It will load, but the result is the same. I have tried this with a completely different SD Card, with the same result.
Is there anything else I can try, or is Verizon right...I have a paperweight...??
I would probably replace the Charging port
Sent from my HTC Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I take it that the phones are not on warranty anymore?
Did these phones work in the past?
Of course, different outlets and USB chargers may help with the charging issue. Although I'm sure you've tried this.
For your phone, try a different battery maybe?
If all else fails, you could try to manually replace the charge port. :/
Try booting up a Linux Live CD and trying to USB connect with that.
Does ADB work?
For your wife's phone...the only thing that comes to mind is rooting and flashing another ROM.
If it makes you feel better, you aren't the only one with issues.
My screen digitizer is failing. (Thread in Q&A - "Phantom Touch Input")
No, no more warranty says both Verizon and HTC. My wife's phone worked perfectly til about a week and a half ago.
I have tried about 3 different USB charging cables...both those that came with the phone and other micro usb cables.
I have tried both of the batteries, both fully charged to no avail.
I don't have any experience with Linux, and don't think it would change the PC recognizing the phone.
The computer will not recognize anything with the USB, so getting to ADB is a problem.
How can I root/flash a rom without the computer?
I'm afraid that if I replace the charging port, I may still need to replace other things. The Charger doesn't really explain why the phone won't get past the white HTC Screen, right?

Yes...the drivers are installed. I have another identical phone and the USB is recognized as normal. The affected phone is not recognized at all.

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML - very slow charging, not detected by PC.

I have two pieces of ZF2 ZE551ML at home. One is my and the other one belongs to my wife. My wife's phone had a broken mini USB port - the first 2 pins from the left were visible - the plastic had broken apart. Firstly, I did not relaise it could be the problem, luckily I managed to change the whole PCB including the broken USB port, however after this change the phone is not being detected by a PC, nor it is fast charging. As I have two phones at home, I checked performance with the other unit and unfortunately, the other one does quick charge and is detected by aPC, so it is not the cable, neither is it the missing software.
I bought another PCB and changed it as well, however still no joy. Does anyone have any brilliant idea how to fix it. I should also say that all other or most of the functions of the phone are working fine (at least those I managed to check: GPS, Wi-Fi, GSM+dual SIM, torch, bluetooth, and so on).
The only problem is that the phone loops on the SMMI Test #1 and is not going any further. I have also tried to detect phone by adb, still no joy. The phone is not rooted!
I have my personal suspects that it could be the faulty main board or a software bug. Any ideas how to fix it?
My phone is running LP 5.0, soft: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.20.40.198_20160930_8756_user044030427_201501060109, kernel [email protected] #1 Fri Sept 30 15:31>23 CST 2016
Sdcard slot is working?
I would check the connections on both ends of the flex cable with the sim and sd slots on it.
I am having the same problems (because of the busted sd slot). I ordered a new flex cable. When it arrives (approx. 2 weeks) I'll know if that was the cause.
Yes, SD slot is working and both SIMs, so the phone itself works fine, only very long charging and is not detected by a PC.

My phone is running LP 5.0, soft: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.20.40.198_20160930_8756_user044030427_201501060109, kernel 3.10[email protected] #1 Fri Sept 30 15:31>23 CST 2016

may be the pcb you changed is for different version. try replacing it with your other phone if you have the same model. post if works.

Hi, I did changed both PCBs between phones. Firstly, I had the same problem on both phones, then I made better connections and the batteries started to warm up. Finally, the new one works with the other phone, the old one from the other phone still creates the problem. Probably, it is not the PCB then, or USB connection. It must be something else.
Anyone, any idea?

try fashing raw firmware
on motherboard you can inspect or clean the connector where pcb connects. use magnifying glass to inspect connector
Ok, I actually would like to flash the raw firmware, however I need some guidance here, as the phone that has a problem, is not rooted, and it cannot be detected by any PC now, so I am stuck in the middle and do not know how to proceed...

i am little confused here... you changed pcb on one mobile and fast charger do not works on that. you have other mobile which is working perfectly. both are same model.... if right!! do the following thing to find out...
Phone A:- changed PCB. no fast charge, not detected by pc.
Phone B:- working perfectly normal..
now we want to guess if pcb is faulty or there is issue with flex cable or any software related issue..
remove motherboard from phone A. and install it in Phone B.. if on Phone B. things works well then definitely its problem related to pcb.. if things don't works on phone B too. then it may be a firmware related problem..
raw cannot be installed without pc..... the thing you can ty is updating firmware from sd card via recovery mode.

That is correct, I say it again - I have two phones, same model, same software, kernel, etc. One had a damaged mini USB port, so I purchased 2 PCBs which have mini USB port souldered onto them. I bought them twice, as I was not sure if the first one I got was the correct one. Now, after your first message I changed the PCBs between phones and the result is the same, phone A (which is ok) works with the replacement PCB, and the PCB from working phone still does not work with phone B (the one that has a problem).
As a second step I replaced motherboards between phones now, and the result is still the same, meaning the motherboard from phone B does not seem to work better while it is in phone A body. The symptoms I'm struggling with are: charging takes over 8-9 hours, so it is considerably extended charging (battery is original factory battery 3000 mAh), the phone does not fastcharge at all and it is not detected by any PC.
The phone is not roooted so, I'm afraid I cannot make any changes to firmware through recovery, as it needs to be connected by a cable to a PC, unless there is something else I can do about it, but how to get any further?

I was on lolipop, updated to MM now, but still no joy, charges very slowly like before and when connected to any PC it says one of the recently connected devices is not working properly, so I'm stuck ... I cannot root or apply any ADB sideloads ...

Is your ext. sd being seen in file manager ?
Can you get into 6.0 recovery ?
If yes , you can now downgrade which will reset your fone , With a factory reset in the process , check my signature below.
Your fone not being seen maybe driver issue if other zens too are not being seen...but ..let's see what happens after downgrade.
After downgrade if still slow charge, reboot while connected to charger.
If same prob ..hardware !

Thanks, I was not so deeply checking all available options. SD downgrading worked well for me, however the problem still is in the phone. However, I discovered a few positive and negative signs, which tell me that there is something else - could be the connection - after upgrading to MM before the phone was restarted at least 3-4 times the screen was not going to sleep mode after a minute, it was coming back on and on and on again. After 3-4 restarts it behaved normally again. The same thing happened after downgrade to L.
Another positive discovery is that the SMMI test now works well and everything is ok now, before it got stuck on the 1st or 2nd test and was not going any further ....
One more spot, which was very hard to catch as it popped up for a 0,1 second but dissappeared then quickly so I had to record it with the other phone and play very slowly on the PC - it looks like the Asus cover window pops up and it says - move your finger around the circle to get quick access to your preferable apps and there is also a blue button: Do not show again . This is flashing now and then and I do not have Asus Cover, so the behaviour is quite odd to me.
I have a feeling that there might be something with connections, but really I do not know what else - I checked it 30 times and made sure everything was properly alligned and tight when I was changing the PCB with micro USB port.
By the way the other phone works well on PCs, so I must have all drivers installed, it is just the second phone that is half bricked... I'm wondering now if maybe flashing CM 12 or 13 will help, however as it is not rooted probably it will not work via SD card... or? Am I looking in the right direction?
Buddy , its hardware so software tweaks will be useless .
Buddy, we are on the same ****ing boat.
I tried to go back to 6.0,but i got my phone bricked and now i cant reverse it back because i need usb connection to the computer and simply it isnt recognized.
I suggest you to send the phone to the asus assistance centre or to buy a new usb port for your phone,as it is clearly damaged like mine.I need to do it too so if you want to wait me first so i can check if it works, ill maybe save you some money.

Well, my phone successfully reversed to Lolipop, and I changed the USB port, I talked to Asus authorised service centre and they said it will cost the price of the phone, so I just give up, as everything works, but not the phone with the computer via USB and not the quick charging. Asus centre said it is a motherboard failure, but I'm asking how is that possible if all other functions work well???

Yes, I see your point, but I cannot imagine how is this possible, when all other things work well on the phone and the SMMI test shows all sensors working properly?

Ask yourself the same 2 questions again once more
Is your phone recognised by PC ?
Is fast charging working now ?
If answer is no after downgrade .
You know the answer
i changed mainboard and working
well, i have the same problem and i try the following possibility and all unsuccessful.
1. i tried 3 different pcb still no luck
2. i changed sim flex still no luck
3. i changed battery still no luck
4. i changed lcd and digitizer completely still no luck
5. i wiped cache from android recovery MM still no luck
6. i wiped data and factory reset from android recovery MM still no luck
7. i install same latest os (MM) for ze551ml from sd card still no luck
8. i use original ac adapter and cable and tried working different one for every step.
so i want to ask a questions. can it be ground connection somewhere on cases? or motherboard
i am tired but problem found. it is exactly motherboard problem. i bought used original mainboard and all is working.
Note: other mainboard using same android os version so it is not os failure.
