Frost King - Excellent - Windows Phone 7 General

Heads up on Frost King. It looks a lot like Pokemon with the same kind of graphics and layout, but is a puzzle game where you solve each level to proceed to the next. It's super simple yet time consumingly enjoyable.

Its free also, Downloading now
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/f6948bac-eb3f-40a1-a6f8-5216f3f997cc

Looks like a good game. Needs fast app switching though.

Thanks for the feedback, we're really glad you enjoyed our game! We've just released a sequel, Frost King 2. You should check it out!

[Q] Dungeon Defenders on custom roms... runs good?

I'm getting reports that it's lagging on the Evos, but I assume they run stock. Has anyone gotten a chance to play this game on ur overclocked Evos? I don't wanna drop $$$ if it'll be choppy as hell.

They didn't really optimize it imo. I bought it on my bros evo. The framerate sucks. Mainly because of the gpu. And lack of optimization. Looked like they focused more on sgx gpus. Although the g2 and mt4g can run it. Mainly because of the newer gpu.

That really blows... was looking forward to this game but with the 15 minute refund crap I'm not even going to try it.
I've been playing it on CM, and it runs fine for me so far. It's show loading levels, but seems to play just fine.

You can change the graphical settings thru the slider. I moved it to the middle and now it's really smooth. I set my CPU to 1113mhz, but i'm gonna try stock speeds for comparison.
It's not too bad. Tolerable, but not great. What I can see from my general observation, the environment (levels, 3D objects) are fast. UI slows it down. Shows when you try to do something, background 3D stuff is fast, but UI framerate is bad. Once you are done managing your character, and start playing, you should be ok.
Also, 3 bucks is not that much money. I dropped it anyway, thinking that even if it's bad on Evo, it may give developers incentive to work on updates.

For $3, I don't think I would refund. I would expect a lil more optimizations. Id definitely save this game when I get a new phone tho.

Tried it out on my EVO and its seemed to run fine. I am overclocked to 1152 so I'm sure that helps. Its was a little slow accessing some of the menus but overall the game seemed to play fine..

You can't overclock the GPU so overclocking the CPU helped very little or not at all. Just a FYI.

I have a stock evo. It runs terribly. Especially when you get a few turrets up around you. Definitely not worth the DL at this time, although i do belive it is an awesome game. Way too laggy to enjoy. Either wait for PC version (which should be nothing short of amazing) or wait til they make improvments on android (hopefully).

you have to remember that when developing for iOS they know exactly what hardware everyone is running it on. The problem with developing for Android is that there are sooooo many different phones with different hardware out there. That's the one thing that iphones have going for them: no individuality, everyone has the same thing...
The devs at Trendy Ent. forums said they plan to optimize HTC based phones in future patches. It includes Desire, EVO, Incredible..etc. They aren't sure how much better it'll be, but they're working on it. Also, if anyone here knows any tweaks for the Evo plz share.
Just bought it on Market yesterday, and runs really crappy on my EVO lol. I hope that they will optimize it soon (considering it's suposed to run on unreal tech and how versatile that is on pc no mather what gpu u have).
Also needs lots of ram and i'm having a hard time getting those 256free mb for it xD

That's the exact opposite of what they told me on Twitter, but one can hope, right?
(They said don't expect it to ever run right on the EVO, as it is not an officially supported platform.)
Actually, Gingerbread WILL bring improvements to this game and others.
There was a website (Frandroid?) that did 3d benchmarks of the Evo Froyo and Gingerbread. All the tests had a 2-16fps increase... which can make or break a game.
So let's hope it all works out.
Also, the NDK (Native Development Kit) is going to be updated. Games like Exzeus Arcade, which is VERY graphically intensive, were made by the NDK and run SMOOTHLY on the Evo/N1/Incredible/Desire.
All of this should be signs that us Evo users are going to get some support.
And supposedly HTC is updating N1 gpu drivers... which are the same for the Evo technically cause they have the same processor/GPU (Snapdragon/Adreno 200).
Anyway, we'll see. I'm about to run this on Myn's. I'll report back in a minute.
thanks for sharing the info! now it's gotten me super excited for CM7

Yes all of the HTC phones, including the Desire, could benefit from optimization, and it's something that we'll be trying to do in the upcoming major content patches in January and beyond. Don't yet know how much performance we gain yet gain from them, but we'll get some degree of benefits.

Your thoughts on ICS on the A100

I've been thinking up to now that Honeycomb gets a much worse rep than it deserves, and while this is true, I think ICS has breathed new life into this (and any other tablets).
It feels so much smoother and faster, the multitasking works great and Chrome is a great browser even in it's current state. It's a shame about losing Root access for now (I hadn't realized how much I would miss Ad Free), but it's not enough to take me back to Honeycomb.
What about you guys? Have you run into any bugs so far?
I was hesitant in earlier posts about accepting the OTA update when it comes out, but being a flashable zip and knowing i could go back to the HC setup if need be, I figured what the hell.
At first, it just felt like a themed version of HC, but after using it for most of the day now, its freakin' solid!
Not having root is annoying, but easier to deal with considering some of the ICS options for disabling apps. It wont be long till the guys get it up and goin'. Being a leak, maybe we'll get lucky and find an easy way to crack the BL.
I've actually noticed less app compatibilty as I was reinstalling some of my apps. Sucks, but i know its just because the app devs havent got all the apps updated for ICS yet.
So yeah, looking forward to the OTA to include this "Acer Ring" which i unsuccessfully tried to install after pulling it from the A200 OTA, and hopefully have face unlock in tow.
Thx for the input guys. I think I'll wait till everything gets worked out. I need to be able to play my games still but having no root I cant use GL to SD or internal/external sd swap mod.
I've already posted quite a bit in the leaked thread of what I think about the update.
But to sum up I feel its great, this time round Google's design team did great with ICS, looks just as good here as it does on my Nexus.
The rom runs really nicely and its really stable, feels a lot smoother than before and a good all round improvement. Stock browser is more solid and snappy and the launcher looks damned pretty.
omg....im just reading about this ics leak at work...WHILE EATING AN ICS. epic! no joke...look!

What's the advantage of rooting Galaxy S2

Hey people, I just came over to the Samsung Galaxy S2 from Evo 3D. I was rooted on 3D and running Fresh rom, which was basically a stock rom, stripped down and ran smooth. I rooted because HTC's Sense Roms are so laggy and slow sometimes they really need a quad core processor to keep up with the S2's dual core processor IMO. I also had the WiFi tethering, but RARELY used it as nowadays, I can jump on the internet with my WiFi only tablet just about anywhere I go (Thank\ you McDonalds and Starbucks), so I don't really NEED WiFi anymore.
I just want to know if there is an advantage to rooting this particular device in your opinions? I get great batt life so far and use it all day. It's fast, no lag at all. My wife has the iPhone 4S and this seems to be as smooth as her iPhone in every way!
Would love to hear your thoughts...
Do it! Its dead simple and unlocks the potential of your device!
What's the advantage of rooting? Ultimate customization, removing bloatware, you can install some really great and fast roms including ICS, improved speed and battery life, not to mention rooting the epic 4g touch is really, really easy and straightforward. I'd say root it without a doubt, that's my two cents...not to mention i enjoy doing nerdy **** like that anyway. Go for it man!

I def appreciate your input. I'm not a huge customizer anyway, but I do like to remove bloatware... Thanks...
Removing bloat, a few apps requiring root...
But to be frank, this phone runs so well OOTB, debatable if it's in anyway necessary. I ran stock with no custom roms for weeks before the itch overtook me.

Reasons to keep your root
I don't know how much ads in your games and other apps bother you. But some of the Roms for E4GT has the built in ad block, it has its advantages when it comes to getting a free app or a paid app. Also the developers are very conscious of conserving battery usage in their roms make for longer charge in your phone. I think that alone with great developers showing their talents are worth the reason of rooting, along with the other reasons in this post.
I had the same question so here's the benefits of rooting this phone that I've found
When I rooted my Evo 4g, it got a lot faster, smoother, etc.. it was way better
I haven't found a ROM that's really faster per se.. but what I have found is ICS (which I actually love by the way), and just a generally more usable phone since the settings and what not are more customizable..
If you're not a "customizer" and aren't looking to try ICS now then I really wouldn't worry about... but this is from someone who got extremely good speed and battery life out of the stock phone... that's my $0.02
I really like the input you all gave. I went ahead and rooted, on Caulks Rom now, and so far enjoying it. Put Tiffany's theme (ICS with a little Honey) and it looks really sweet. Wanted to try customizing a bit... OOTB this phone is sick fast and overall just runs great! That is the biggest reason why I didn't want to bother rooting, but then I had a spare 15 minutes in my life yesterday and read your comments. I knew it only took about 5 mins to root, so I did it... So far seems great, runs fast, and looks sexy. I did like the Go Launcher though, but one of my favorite things (Go Launcher Notification) doesn't seem to work with the ROM I am running. Caulks Rom is ICS based, and I don't want to go back to Ginger, so I'll patiently wait for the GO team to fix this issue...
Anyway thanks again all! I made sure to thank all your comments.....I think...lol

I use it, it works pretty good.
I installed this launcher to try the Chrome OS theme from mycolorscreen, The Launcher is pretty good, but i just cannot leave the fast and fluid stock one.

Likes good...has anybody got it to work on Nexus 7?
Edit: never mind I got it working on Nexus 7
Nice launcher, but it needs a bit more development.
This is amazing. Just downloaded it and it runs beautifully and love how it comes pre set up.
Rather confusing launcher, I think I will try it out again and try to get the Chrome theme on it, but honestly wasn't impressed.
This is not just another launcher. A completely new launcher.
Congrats guys, very innovative. More innovative than apple and Samsung all together
Gotcha, now after watching the tutorial video I see the potential this launcher has. Great work!
Just a very very good launcher, I'm impressed !
Buy it's very annoying to have to download a lot of gadgets for it to be perfect.
And some french traduction of the main app and of the widget are awful, that makes the application hard to configure.

second thought: after a couple of days using this launcher and paying close attention to the battery usage, I have to say that it does not drain as much as i thought. I guess it depends on what homepack you download/use.
This launcher really makes my phone a lot better looking, with very little time and energy. And the customization freedom is huge!
I have now officially uninstalled Go Launcher.

Its alot closer to SSL Launcher but in a clean more user friendly interface. Can't wait for it to be stable now. I put the Chrome theme on it that was shared earlier and its sick! Trying to replicate the Chrome theme on other launchers like Apex and Nova using Multi-Live Wallpaper and its becoming even more tedious. This makes things alot easier when creating a theme for mycolorscreen.
Corrupt colors and textures.. I was seeing alpha channel instead with some textures.
Beautiful and innovative home screen, high battery+ram usage, boring app drawner

This is a fantastic tool for customization, a congratulations to the app developers on this one. Let's hope it catches on and we get an influx of themes.

[Q] Hoping for help with S3 smoothness issues.

I just picked up a used S3. My contract is up in Sept and wanted to see if I like the android better the then iphone. I have been generally happy with the Iphone once I jailbroke except the really for vibration mode and missing calls and messages. Also missed the openess to get into files and move stuff around like pictures music and videos. I had a galaxy Captivate 2 years ago that was rooted and was pretty happy to get the iphone because everything just worked smoother and less little issues. Now fast forward 2 years and I was pretty excited to get into the a S3 and see all the improvements. Gotta saw pretty disappointing. This phone feels way to close to the captivate of years ago. It is relatively smooth going thru screens and such with Nova launcher. Apps open fast and don't crash. But in most menu screens and certainly many internet screens, it is just not smooth scrolling to down right heavy choppy. And I enjoy a few games that have great graphics. Real Racing 2 and 3 and even some other more less graphic intense once. Pretty disappointed that they are noticeably not as smooth including tiny pauses. Honestly maybe no better then the captivate and daughters Lg Thrill. All super smooth on the iphone. And ideas would be greatly apprieciated. I really want to love this S3 but already just living with it. It has the latest update of 4.1.1. Thanks

For your browser issue, try Dolphin Beta.
For games like Real Racing, it wasn't made for the S3, therefor, it can't achieve full gfx. A fix to the choopyness would be to look into custom ROMs (Either TW or AOSP based). If it's something that interest you, you have a lot of reading to do before jumping into it but once you understand how it works, it's fairly simple.

Some possible changes to make:
1. for browser, I use the AOSP browser because it is superior in speed and usability to any other browser I try
2. you could switch to another AOSP rom that will have less bloatware and no skin on top of it slowing it down (this will be slight change)
3. to fix laginess on certain points you can try flashing a different kernel with various tweaks that increase butteryness
4. root and overclock the minimum cpu frequency. While this won't help with graphics too much in games (thats GPU), it will help with laggy transitions. Be forewarned, this might decrease battery life depending on what you end up changing the minimum to
If I have helped, slap that thanks button please
Thanks for the quick reply. I did try different browers and did settle on the dolphin. It really seemed very little better then the stock browser but the stock browser has the RRS reader pop up in the bar if applicable and I like that feature like the iphone. Some of the choppy webpages are also somewhat choppy on an iphone too. just not as bad. I was hoping to not get into rooting and Roms and figured a stock S3 should be plenty good now. When you say that the games are now programmed for the S3. are they not programmed for the S3 or Android in general. Do these costom roms adjust the programming somehow. I assume not too much issue to do the root but not familiar in detail of the Rom procedures. Would downloading the S3 toolkit from here be a good starting point. Jailbreaking the Iphone was stupid easy.

It's really easy, just gotta read and understand what you're doing before going into it.
Getting a toolkit can be a start. Although, you can skip that and download pre-rooted stock ROM for your carrier.
Here's a good guide to start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822308 - I would download GooManager from the market and install TWRP recovery instead of installing CWM recovery like that guide suggests. It's quite simple, just hit a couple buttons
Once you're rooted and have a custom recovery, you can install a ROM from the Dev section (TW or AOSP).
Thanks for all the input and direction to the thread on rooting and Roms. I am very good and can understand directions for this stuff just gets a little overwhelming researching this and seemingless see so many different methods with small variations and then through the word Bricking in too. I love to customize and make stuff my own so i'm pretty sure I will give this a try. Thanks
I am ready to give the rooting a try. I expected a little less confusion then what I'm seeing. I ran across the Casual tool which looked interesting as compared to the download drivers then odin and unziping files and such. As I looked over the list of computer systems I don't see Vista business listed. Will this be a problem. Also does it make a difference if ICS or jellybean. Thanks again

sorry to hear that you are on vista but it should do the job, my windows 8 even works fine. it doesn't matter which rooted stock rom you flash, but I would recommend flashing Jelly Bean rather than ICS just because well its newer
oh and for first custom rom, I would recommend, Carbon Rom nightlies, they are stable and smooth and have a lot of customization http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136846
