[Q] Guides to install CM7.1 official - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, i've gotten my xplay days back. It's my very first android phone. I've tried to read up on instructions to root and flash custom roms, but am still very confused.
Noting that cyanogenmod 7.1 has been released already. Could any kind bros here give me a simple instruction on rooting and flashing to cm7.1? Please pardon me as i know its a question that's been asked millions of times.
Is this the procedure i should do?
Unlock Bootloader> Flash > root?
Also, if i were to flash custom roms am i still able to retain certain apps and games(official preinstalled games and downloaded games) using titanium backup?

How to know if i am using a sim-unlocked, unbranded R800i phone or a branded, or sim-locked to a carrier

Very sorry for all the noob and annoying questions. And thanks inadvance for all advices and guidance.
Current phone stats :
Android Version : 2.3.3
BaseBand Version : 7X30A-AAABAMAZM-1290_21-22
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9-perf
BuildNumber : 3.0.1.A.0.145

The procedure is: unlock bootloader, flash proper FTF for CM7 (check it in the CM7 thread), enter fastboot (blue light), flash kernel, flash ROM.

[Q] some question about rooting ICS 4.04 Global .431 (LT15i) (Locked BL)

i search over and over and i check the site daily to find any way too root officially global world.431 without re flash (ready to root firmware)
i need root to slove small internal memory problem
any way id like to ask what is the disadvantages of flashing (ready to root firmware)?
and if i flash (ready to root firmware), can i update my mobile normally via witless?
there are no disadvantages, it's just the normal 4.0.4 FTF with the 4.0.3 kernel.
just don't flash the FR because tether doesn't work from some reason.
and for sure there is no differnt with 4.04 kernel and 4.03 kernel?
and if u have the rom, how is the battery with you?

Click to collapse
read the tutorial carefully, after you done rooting you need to flash the 4.0.4 kernel
the battery is almost the same as GB for me.
rite, i didnt notice that
thanks alot

[Q] Question about custom kernel

I have an R800a with the locked boot loader, however i plan to use LoOpy! method as seen here to flash the new kernel. My xperia play is a Rogers (canada) branded phone and i have root. I must still be running the original release version as it says under build number: 3.0.1.A.0.145 and it looked like we're in the 4s now.
What I want from flashing the new kernel is being able to run the stock rom and overclock (I want better gaming performance). I believe DoomLord kernel will accomplish this. With Loopy!s method the file must be in a FTF format, and hes posted a version of Doomlords kernel that will work with his method. However, looking at Doomlords page about installing it, I need the rom version to be "SE 4.0.2.A.0.42/.58/.62 FW... " link here. I do see that he has a kernel for my version, but its not an FTF format (its the standard .img)
Questions:
Should i update to the newest SE rom? to do this i would just use sonys software (pc companion?) to update?
I've used titanium backup to freeze/remove some apps. What apps are needed to preform the SE Rom update?
Updating the ROM version, will I lose all my apps/data? (i assume not)
Flashing to the custom kernel, will i lose all my apps/data? (maybe?)
I think i lose root when i update to the newest SE rom, but if I install the custom kernel I should get root back?
Kind of unrelated to the above, is it possible to completely back up my ROM in its current state (with bootloader unlocked =no) encase anything goes wrong i can just restore it? There is a rough guide on how to convert .img to FTF so I assume if I can get a .img i should be ok...
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Need advice

Dear all user, I'm really interested to flash Omega latest version rom and wish to flash on my device too. But not sure what should I do first as to prevent something may cause my phone like EFS back up...etc. Thus, can you help provide me what should be done first before I start to play around with my stock firmware? And what would be the simple and safe way to flash CWM and root my phone without encountering binary counter too?
My device's current status as follow and running stock without root as it's a new phone I've just bought it.
Android version : 4.1.2
Baseband versionL N7100DXDLK5
Kernel version : 3.0.31-1071214 [email protected] #1
Build number : JZO54K.N7100XXDME1
Thank in advance for your advices mate.
First root your phone... Personally recommended website : galaxynote2root.com
Then, flash Twrp recovery .. It has EFS backup option. You can backup your stock rom + EFS( I lost my imei and restore it with Twrp)
Then, Flash your omega rom and enjoy
Make sure you read rom creator instructions carefully.. Some rom can't be flashed with Twrp.. Eg. Phoenix rom.

Hi i got this sony xperia ion.
I unlocked the bootloader last night and when i tried to update to latest software version (6.2.B.221 i think) it showed me an error whivh i figured cause of unlocking bootloader.. so i gave up on updating with pc companion. I know you cant understand what i wrote.. so..
My situation
I unlocked bootloader before i update it to latest firmware.
Im going to flash kernel that is prerooted, has cwm, init.d. in order to flash latest firmware

DO i need to downgrade ?

i have a Xperia Arc runing official ICS 4.1.B.0.587 firmware, its already rooted, got CWM working. However, the phone is pretty much laggy, so i need to change my ROM, im looking forward to install this ROM : [ROM][Arc/ArcS/Pro][2.3.7] Gin2KitKat v3.2.0 [OTA]
my question is do i need to downgrade from .587 to a GB official ROM ? because ROM Firmware Required: 4.0.2.A.0.xx and im runing 4.1.B.0.587 if yes do i need to re-root my device and istall CWM again ??
if no.is there anyway to install GB via CWM without loosing root access ?

It's better to downgrade first before flashing that ROM.
You have to change kernels since both are of different Android versions.
That ROM should come pre rooted, there is no need to root again.

No need to downgrade, just flash your rom
