The more I read , the more options I encountered and Im confused.
Some rom flashing expert please confirm the following steps to upgrade from stock 4.1.2 to a custom ROM 4.3 Mk4
1) I download Odin
2) then download philz recovery
3) Flash philz recovery using Odin
Ok at this point , if i reboot the Phone should still be working fine right?
Then to flash a custom 4.3 Rom mk4 I do the following
1) Download ROM
2) Download MultiTool advanced
3) install Multitool Zip file using Philz recovery previously installed
4) Aroma will start and I will get options to flash ROM
I will keep all at default in Aroma, and thus the Custom ROM will be installed
The 2 ROMS im interested are Dr ketans and DN3
Now since both roms are pre rooted and Knox free, I should be able to revert back to 4.1.2
Now I need someone to tell how to go abck to 4.1.2 and how to flash official 4.3 in case ROM I flashed is not upto expectation and results in buggy phone.
Please correct me when necessary plz
Mam / Sir any update here? because This is also my concerned. Thanks to someone that may lead us.
I think a simple way to revert to stock 4.1.2 is to do a nandroid backup from the recovery before flashing the custom rom.
If you do not like the rom, you do a wipe and restore the backup.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
just another step before Philz is to download ketans multi tool v2 advanced and then root and install philz via that...
you just flash the 4.1.2 FW back using odin
I was wondering how would I do this. I wanted to flash JediMaster X but im rooted on 4.1.2 Jedi X. How would i go about updating to stock 4.3 without installing knox so i can get the working bootloader then update to Jedi Master X ?
I would prefer if the stock ROM was rooted already and knox removed. Anyway have any links.
Has anyone done this process ?

Hi, even though you are on stock 4.1.2, remember: you have root privileges now. You can flash any ROM designed/built for your particular variant of the Note 2. That simply means stick with flashing ROM that match your device's model number.
Next, I flashed JediMasterX this morning. It is built from stock firmware Android 4.3 for the Note2 so you can flash this ROM, if there's a build for your variant. You don't need to flash the actual firmware to upgrade to 4.3 ROM. All builds in the forum come from source code, which means there is a base design for each kind of phone, but Android is Android and it follows certain predetermined rules.
One thing you need to do is read the OP to whichever ROM it is you are thinking about flashing. The ROM chef is going to place some very important information on the first page where they present their ROM. It is much advised that you follow those guidelines down to the letter. For instance, you want to flash JediMasterX, right? Did you know that the OP mentions that if you haven't already updated to 4.3, (BTW...there are links in the forums for each carrier to download the stock firmware and they're already root and you don't have Knox to worry about!) that you should flash a particular kernel after flashing the ROM. You'll even find a link to the stock 4.3 modem, which is necessary for providing a data connection. That is less necessary than flashing the kernel and the OP explains why.
I hope this has helped. Make sure you have your custom recovery set-up and that you already have a Nandroid backup of your root stock firmware or another ROM you have recently flashed. Always keep a backup, more than one is even better!
Happy Flashing!

Yes I want to flash JediMaster X but I heard that if i don't have the stock bootloader WiFi will be dropping in and out. Support for devil kernel in V2 is being dropped or something (so i wanted a solution in which i don't have to flash devil kernel) so I need to have the stock bootloader to have stable connection. Yeah I was just looking for the simplest process to get everything working on JediMasterX 4.3

I totally understand you. And that's where that kernel I mentioned comes in. It's called the dual-boot or Devil's kernel by @DerTeufel You need to either flash that kernel after flashing the ROM via the Aroma installer. Reboot back into recovery and flash the kernel OR flash the bootloader patch provided by another senior contributor in the forum. That link is somewhere in the OP and you have this option. Download and flash the stock root 4.3 firmware -- it already is Knox free -- for your device. Then flash your downloaded JediMasterX ROM and you won't need to worry about flashing the kernel.

I forgot to mention one other thing. I know that JediMasterX was shared with us earlier in December. One thing of interest, and this is solely for your information...don't go trying it until you're more comfortable with flashing and more importantly recovery! The N7105 is compatible with the T889 and that allows us to flash ROM built for our respective variants. The Devil's kernel was built for the N7105 originally. And I just downloaded a pretty updated -- as of this month -- version of the kernel yesterday. I did read in @DerTeufel's OP for the Devil's kernel that he wouldn't be supporting any requests for changes to the kernel. But the kernel is solid. Has been for quite some time!
Sorry it's taken me long to reply. Wouldn't you know my phones are both drained and I hadn't turned on my computer yet. Anyway, important thing is to read, read, read. I know you might get bored clicking through pages, but it's really cool when you find updates to certain ROM you like buried in those pages instead of posted on the main page. Or you find tips to a having a better experience on the ROM you happen to be on by using a mod listed in a forum. And you can learn a whole lot from everyone in these forums, but reading through the forums will teach you things about root, what you can and cannot do, that no single person can.
Hope this helped! Have fun flashing!

Yea, you're going to download and flash through desktop Odin the stock root 4.3 firmware. You download the zip, unzip and place the .md5 file in PDA of Odin. You'll then need to flash a recovery image through Odin as well so your recovery partition will be ready to flash into recovery and then backup the stock root firmware. Keep it in case you want to go back. And always do a complete wipe in recovery for a clean install of any ROM you flash.
Computer is super slow today. ARgH! lol

I know what you mean and I'm using the official ROM now without Knox
Step 1: Root your phone
Step 2: Install Titanium Backup pro (u can download the APK from apkmania or any other site)
Step 3: Find the apps in the screenshot from Chrome to Mobile life
Step 4: back up each one of them (in case if u need Knox later)
Step 5: uninstall
Step 6: have fun, your phone is Knox free
Hit the thanks button if my post helped you please.
Hello. I just ordered my galaxy note 2 N7100 Int. version(not the n7105 lte one). I live in Greece and the phone should have arrived by 15-20 January. Even though I'm not an android noob and im using android for 2-3 years and made my own ROMs as well, I have no clue how Samsung phones work. So I would like a detailed guide please about the steps I'm will mention:
*What is the latest official firmware I can install on my N7100? How can I do that?(I'm not familiar with OTA's)
*How can I root that firmware? What is the best option for rooting it?(chainfire etc but give details on how to do it with those methods)
*Do I need to unlock my bootloader to install custom recovery and flash a rom?If so how can I do that?
*Is Philz recovery fully working and compatible with 4.4+ ROMs? If so how can I install it? If not whats the best recovery with support for 4.4+ ROMs?
*What is the best ROM with the features of Note 3?(stable no bugs good for gaming) How can I install that ROM?
*What is the best 4.4 ROM?(stable no bugs good for gaming) How can I install that ROM?
*How do I backup my IMEI?
*What is the procedure to install a ROM?(on my old phone it was : 1)Backup 2)Factory reset 3)Wipe cache, dalvik cache, system, data, and again format cache 4)Install ROM 5)Install GAPPS and reboot. Done. Are there any differences here?
I wont buy a new phone for the next 1-2 years at least so I wont my new phone to be safe when playing with custom ROMs. If you are about to comment without a detailed guide or at least telling me where to look for that guide dont comment at all, it wont help me.Thanks in advance and sorry for the trouble.
Too many questions to answer and therefore I recommend to go to the Development section for further information. Each Rom has its own install instructions, just read there and learn more about your device :good:
You can't get spoonfed here, sorry mate.
To try to answer just a few... really too many questions, you need to read a bit before posting so many questins
*What is the latest official firmware I can install on my N7100? How can I do that?(I'm not familiar with OTA's)
MKD - Indian, MK9 - european, ML3 - asian. They all work on any int 7100 model.
*Do I need to unlock my bootloader to install custom recovery and flash a rom?If so how can I do that?
You just have to root.
*What is the best ROM with the features of Note 3?(stable no bugs good for gaming) How can I install that ROM?
Most popular are DN3 and Phoenix (also maybe DR Ketan's custom ROM, but it isn't developed anymore). I personaly use Criskelo which is really stable and smooth.

In Phils's recovery (I recommend v 5.15, not v 6.x - because of Aroma bug) you do "prepare for ROM flashing" and then flash ROM. Erasing dalvik/system/cache etc can't hurt but is not necessary, all is done in one go. From ODIN - go to download mode, connect to PC, run ODIN and select md5 file to flash.

Hey @dalanik thanks for your quick answer. I have some more questions for you. First of all, are 4.4+ roms stable for this phone for daily use and gaming? Is Philz recovery 5.15 compatible with 4.4+ roms? How do I root my device(latest official firmware) and how do I use ODIN(why is odin needed, what is odin doing)? What about backing up my IMEI? Thanks in advance.
I haven't tried 4.4 ROMs so I don't knpw. As for rooting just have a look at the forum there are several threads on rooting. Odin flashes ROMs.

What should I use to flash roms, odin or recovery(twrp, cwm etc)?
Actually Odin can be used to flash I.e. bootloader which recovery can't. Odon is used to flash official Samsung stock ROMs in md5 format while recovery is used fir custom ROMs mostly with the Aroma installer.

First when arrives your phone see the firmware version, if it has 4.3 and flash custom recovery firmware etc you loose your warranty and for the moment is not possible to take warranty back. If your firmware is 4.1.2 the things are more simple you can flash everything (except 4.3 official bootloader also 4.3 official firmware witch includes bootloader) and have when you need your warranty back.
All your answers are in the forum search for start dr.ketan threads. You can start from here (old thread but very good writed for 4.1.2 there are some differences with 4.3 you have to check before act for example mobile Odin trigger the warranty at 4.3 also triangle away cannot affect knox etc etc)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
he has plenty of guides solutions etc and I think you will find many answers for your questions. Now if your phone is at 4.1.2 firmware and you want to flash 4.3, root etc or 4.3 custom rom (not all) repost to guide you how to flash and also have your warranty back.

Hello @dalanik, @vagsvag I just got my Note 2(Italy version) GT-N7100. Here's the details from the settings menu
*Android 4.1.2(gives me the ability to update to 4.3)
*Baseband N7100XXDMF1
*Kernel 3.0.31-1071214
*Build number JZO54K.N7100XXDME6
The phone is COMPLETELY stock, no root no custom recovery nothing. Can you please give me full instructions on how to install this ROM please?
About 4.4 ROMs, i have tried them.
Things that don't work:
- Bluetooth ear piece???
- Camera is not 100% stable
- I don't have sound when recording videos (Could be just me, no one else is mentioning it )
- Bad FPS in games (tried many kernels and governors, still bad. AGAIN, could be just me, no one else is mentioning it )
And that's it.
For DN3
- Root
- Flash recovery (TWRP my choice)
- Full wipe (data,system,internal storage,cache)
- Flash DN3 (you will now get a bootloop)
- Flash it ONE MORE TIME,
There is something wrong with AROMA installer, if you look closely it doesn't install the ROM for the 1st time, hence the bootloop.
Also, you DON'T NEED TO FLASH the new bootloader. I'm on the DMG1 bootloader and i'm running DN3.
If you don't flash the bootloader, you have to flash the Wi-Fi fix, to get the Wi-Fi working.
You may also experience a reboot once in a week or 2 weeks, it's random.
I personally don't want to flash the BL, because i'm terrified of ODIN. I have a bad history with it

@Mashed_Potatoes thanks for your reply but please make things a little bit more detailed..
- Root -- how can I root my device? Link?
- Flash recovery (TWRP my choice)? I want Philz recovery. How do I flash it? Is there any problems with flashing DN3 with Philz recovery?
-What are the prerequisites to get DN3 ROM to work FULLY? Have you noticed any important bugs while using it? What bootloader do I have to flash to get DN3 ROM to work? How can I flash that bootloader? Remember I'm on stock 4.1.2
-How can I access Recovery on this phone?

You need to use the search option.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKfURLDlCRg - How to flash recovery
I don't know about Philz i had it before TWRP but that was before DN3 existed =D
I found no bugs in DN3, its a bit slower than 4.1.2 and the ram usage is higher
You flash the bootloader through ODIN too but i cant help you about that i don't know
Once you root your phone download an app called Quick Boot which will allow you to access Download and Recovery modes with one click
Hey guys I need a little bit more help.
@Androidwizzard @dalanik @vagsvag
I successfully rooted my device with CF and ODIN and now I installed latest Philz recovery as well.
One last question.. I'm now on official 4.1.2(again xD)and like I have said again I want to install DN3 ROM.. What bootloader do I need to flash to get DN3 to work? How do I know what bootloader Im using right now?
What I think the procedure is
1)Install 4.3 bootloader while running 4.1.2
2)Make a backup with Philz recovery
3)Full wipe and install 4.3 DN3 ROM.
Is this correct? Dont forget to answer the other things I asked you!! Thanks in advance!!

There is only ONE bootloader you can flash that is KNOX-Free, and that is MJ5. All other bootloaders have KNOX. Do not use Wi-Fi fix as that will fix your Wi-fi but may introduce instability, reboots, etc. Well, not the Fix, the fix is fine, but the rest of the old bootloader. Just flash MJ5.
I'd do backup FIRST and then flash bootloader.

FIRST of ALL: Don't use the latest Philz, RUN 5.15 is the best way to flash 4.3 custom roms with Aroma installer!
As mentioned: You got to take MJ5 if you ever want to go back to stock 4.1.2 at any time, besides you won't have wifi issue.
Only way to change bootloader: PC Odin.
Befor starting to install a custom rom read the instructions on the OP of the desired rom. There you find all necessary wipes to do :good:

@Androidwizzard so to flash DN3 ROM this is what I have to do:
1)Flash Philz 5.15 recovery with ODIN
2)Flash MJ5 bootloader while running official 4.1.2
3)Make a backup of current with recovery
4)Make the necessary wipes with recovery and flash DN3 ROM
Is everything I mentioned above correct?
Also how do I go back COMPLETELY stock if I ever want?
And btw is DN3 ROM good for games? I play lots of heavy games like GTA:SA etc..
Thanks A LOT guys for helping me, I know I'm annoying but I'm really new to Samsung and this all seems really strange

@Androidwizzard so to flash DN3 ROM this is what I have to do:
1)Flash Philz 5.15 recovery with ODIN
2)Flash MJ5 bootloader while running official 4.1.2
3)Make a backup of current with recovery
4)Make the necessary wipes with recovery and flash DN3 ROM
Is everything I mentioned above correct?

There is no such a thing like locked bootloader, you can only trip knox, but I believe it's out of the warranty. Update bootloader and modem with Odin, flash newest TWRP for N7100 and flash your ROM, 10 min and you good to go. Backup everything - nandroid, efs, data and then play with custom ROMs.
Read sticky guides and check everything 2 times before doing some changes

Yes, It's out of warranty + Knox- 0x1..
Can you guide me with this stuff "Update bootloader and modem with Odin"..? Please, if you are free..
I think i can do the next part "flash newest TWRP for N7100 " by installing DrKetan_MultiTool_AromaV11.zip in custom recovery..
There is an option to Flash TWRP..
Sorry if i asked/did something dumb and for my bad english too..
Download firmware from sammobile for your device i.e. N7100.
Install 7zip to extract it and copy SBOOT. and modem, then use 7zip again and pack (*.tar) those files separately, so you will have sboot.tar and modem.tar
sboot is the bootloader and modem is...modem.
Use Odin to flash modem and bootloader in download mode, then use also Odin to flash TWRP.
Then go to recovery mode and install your ROM using instructions in ROM thread (1st post).
You have to know that stock ROMs are identified by letters and numbers, the newest is probably OE1, I used bootloader and modem from French ROM.

thank you so much for nice explanation..
i am going to download firmware..
after doing all, will notified you..
Could somebody please post instructions, or info on how I can update my rooted SM-T210r currently running 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 or maybe even something newer . . I would like to do this without losing Root, TWRP, or any of my data, if that is in any way possible . . OTA methods would be prefered, Thanks.
UP? Same scenario only with T211.
Do you want stock 4.4.2 or a modded 4.4.2? I've got a modded stock ROM you can check out. (I'm still trying different things so I haven't officially released the ROM, but would love a tester to give me feedback.) To first upgrade to stock 4.4.2 go to SamMobile website and download the latest firmware for the device. (I believe it is Canadian.) Then flash thru Odin. Then you will have to reflash TWRP. Boot into TWRP and make a backup. After your backup is complete it should ask you if you want to root the device.(Flashing new firmware you will lose root.) After that If you would like to see what my modded ROM looks like pm me.
