Are you sure? I thought hard reset only formatted /data/ partition, /system/app/ and /system/xbin/ remain untouched?

Ok so the past week or so i have been doing research to root my xperia play. last night i decided im gonna give it a shot i used to have the ascend 2 which had the unlocked bootloader which made things so much easier but with this phone i dont.
The problem i am having is that during any root required program my phone tells me that "app" was not allowed root access.
this happened using the super one click root as well as doomlord v4 any help or ideas?

So I forgot to use Voodoo to save my root x.x. I wanted to remove bloatware off of my Play but now I can't. I tried unlocking my Bootloader with Flashtool but I have CDMA. I tried looking everywhere but nothing works. I tried SuperOneClick and that didn't work.
Is there anyway I can downgrade to 2.3.3 or something? I just want my root back.
Thanks.

Flashtool method is available in this forum, just search for it . There will be detailed method with pictures. Search for stock 6.1.a.2.50 ftf, which is also available in this forum.
In ur case, uncheck wipe user data and wipe app log before flashing. U won't lose any data but you'll lose root and cwm. So u must root again using bin4ry method and reinstall cwm after u flash.
Please note that 6.1.a.2.55 doesn't support bin4ry method. So u have to update to 6.1.a.2.50.
Good luck!

Okay now it does NOT reboot with that/
Why is it rebooting with root explorer something I should be concerned about?
same thought with @sonic2911. i used Bin4ry method and never get rebooting either with root explore or any others
So I reset to see if it fixes and nope. I'm able to only delete or add one thing per reboot

I did reset and used that method much better but still reboots so cant really do much its fine for now but reboots happen when using any root/R/W.
If youre using the bin4ry method and have recovery instelled, I suggest u to delete all SU data and uninstall it.Then root your phone back using the bin4ry method again.Problem should be gone by then.

I've done these exact steps a dozen times now and everything is working fine.
If you want to unlock your bootloader (for flashing AOSP roms), don't forget to backup your TA partition first! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598)

Does unlocking my boot loader procedure wipe my phone? (data partition, internal sdcard partition, etc?)

If u unlock your bootloader the zl then u will lose ur mobile bravia engine... And also if u flash a custom Rom will wipe your data... Unlocking bootloader doesn't wipe ur data..

I hadn't realized the bravia engine would go away as well... I've rooted... and basically done what I really needed to do thus far to it... I'm just exploring the other options... assuming my wife wants to use it as her daily phone, I won't be messing with it much after the initial setup anyway.
i root my xperia with KINGO ROOT, simple and fast
plug your device, enable usb debugging and click root.. works fine in .2.67!!

Well as per recent info, it tracks many info from the phone while rooting as in IMEI number, some personal info etc. so it still being reviewed, unless its confirmed to be safe its better not to use Kingo Root.

i used kingo to install CWM and use the cm.. now im using a CM with a totally different root file.. then in that case, i would have no problems with this privacy thing?
