My incredible2 has been getting hot when ever I browse the internet for long periods of time is this normal or is there something I can do to help it. I'm running cm7 no custom kernels at the moment.

When I used CM7 my phone would get hot as well during random intervals with the stock kernel.
Perhaps use the speed settings in advanced to underclock a little? On AOSP you really shouldn't notice a difference between regular maximum clock and a step or two below. And you will save some more battery.

I use the task killer frequently to save on battery. But ive come to notice that there are certain applications that show up on that list even though i NEVER open them. is this normal? Apps like News, Google Voice, Voicemail, ShopSavvy...
i mean i understand others such as gmail or others that i use widgets for... but ShopSavvy???
i feel like they're sucking my 3500mah battery dry!
Who wants to explain Android task management to him? I am at Dragon Con and way too tired to fully explain it. I will in the morning if no one else has.

Task killers are no good with Froyo 2.2. If want to save on battery life I suggest using Juice Defender. Best way is to root (if you haven't already) and install a custom ROM and custom kernel. All these combined can more than double your battery life.
I haven't upgraded to Fresh's latest ROM (3.2.0.0) yet, but it is reported that people are getting nearly 2 days worth of moderate to heavy usage on a single charge. Compare that to the normal half-day that most get currently on stock.

Sorry about the noob question.il look more into this.but i do have flashed baked rom and I think it already has a custom kernel... But I don't think its helping the battery life

Guess I will try Fresh's ROM... are there any that you guys recommend? I dont use Sense... i use Launcher Pro so i guess it doesnt matter if its a sense rom or not.
My first android phone (was on palm pre and it was so much easier to tweak) so im trying to learn the ways.
Go to the baked snack thread and download kernel 5 or 6. Then setup a setCPU profile to turn your frequency all the way down when the screen is off and set your main profile to around 850 mhz and you should notice a big difference in your better life.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Also, the reason they open is because they provide a service. For instance, Google Voice....When someone calls and leaves a voice mail it is there to receive and let you know you have a voice mail. If it is not running, you will not get a notification. As for the others, they do something similar. So, when Android is done with them Android will close them.

So you don't recommend leaving it at 1ghz as the main profile? ...i have it set as 250 while the screen is off....
Will flash kernel 5 or 6. I don't need to reflash the baked rom again right?
Thanks again

Actually, I would just let it scale itself. I have always had better results from not using SetCPU.

Im still a noob and would like to know how to underclock and overclock my phone with cm6 (underclock when i sleep and overclock when active) Also I would like to know if there is an app online i can download through my phone for free wifi tethering that works on cm6 thx!
Flame suit on and ready:
Seriously though.....congrats but now it's time for you to take your time and read the forums and educate your self. Good luck.

Setcpu will help you with oc uc. Searched wireless tethering for android on google you will find it.
PS. Brace yourself for flaming from people that think they are mods
you should have read the actual cm thread already, as many of your questions are answered there. (search is your friend) And as for wifi tethering its built into cm >_>
SetCPU to over/under clock. Tethering is built into cm6. Take a gander in wireless & networks.
Dont overclock your phone...you get no noticable different....all of snaps kernals made my phone less stable....yeah benchmarks went up...but did i really notice. A speed difference....no....just stay on stock cm6....
you can wifi tether from menu on cm6 flame
menu>settings>wireless&networks
I do wish I had the ability to try out CM6... But without 4g support.. I cannot even consider it.. All I run now in boston is 4g and wifi at home.. Once CM6.1 launches I'll be all over it! Can't wait! For now running Fresh 3.2 + stock kernal... Amazing on battery life and performance .. No need for me to over our under clock.. Love it! And do not forget about swype!

I refuse to use CM6 until they get all features working right.
Not a knock on the very hard work they have done, but I paid a lot of money for my phone and want everything working as intended.
The FM radio is meh, I can do without that. The HDMI out kind of sucks, would be cool to use a Wiimote with an emulator and bust out and play games (if only I had a place to store a few Wiimotes haha, car I guess?). But no 4G? Considering the phone is called the HTC Evo 4G, I think CM6 is rather pointless at this time.
I wish HTC would release the information and help all of our developers. If they did I bet CM6 would work perfectly and then be blazing fast.
I am also a fan of Sense, using another Android phone without it looks generic to me. To each their own I suppose.
Im looking for a stock rom with no changes to it that allows me to keep root. I Looked through all the older threads in development but it seems there have been updates and such. Right now I am running CM 6.1 and it seem my batt is dying way faster then it did on a stock rom. I'd like to compare them and such. If anyone has one or can point me in the right direction i'd be happy! Thank you!

Yes, I am experiencing higher drain as well. Search the development section for cr_mod, look for the CR_Mod OTA 1.35.something. It's the rooted stock ROM with a wireless tether built in, OTA update and all. That's what your looking for. I flashed dumfuq's OC 4.0 kernel over the stock ROM and got better battery life than the stock HTC kernel, so I also recommend doing that. I'm on cm6.1 stable now, so I can easily modify themes, since it's AOSP based, and also so I can use the gingerbread latin_IME keyboard, since you need at least froyo to do that.

Hey thanks! I went back for about 8 hours and hated it. Im back on CM 6.1 and im getting terrible battery life still. IDK, I am going to try and reformat my SD card and reflash at a full battary etc. I migh ttry the kernel, but, I really don't want any OC of any kind, just maybe a lower standby setting, something in the range of 50mhz while the screen is off or something.

I cant see how formating an sd card could help. Anywho, cm 6.1 has the oc kernal already built into it. You dont need to flash any kernals, just use setcpu to adjust the speed.

50 MHz is too low. 245 is the lowest option

I said try flashing dumfuq 4.0 over it because I THINK, not positive, but I was speculating that cyanogen had modified the kernel slightly that was causing a battery drain issue, because I stopped having so many issues with it when I flashed dumfuq's 4.0 kernel over it. Sounds weird, but it helped. I still have an occasional glitch where something is holding a wakelock on the system and it won't go to sleep, which is really annoying, and I think I traced it back to the music app, but still not sure there. I've been off of the charger for over an hour, with just 11 minutes of screen on and screen is 71% of the usage while cell standby is 11%, that's what makes me think flashing dumfuqs 4.0 fixed it. Cyanogen must've made a modification.
So, also @ the OP, go into spare parts battery history and see what is using it. If "running" is up above like 30 or 50% then you have something holding a wakelock, go to partial wake usage, and look at the app or UID that's got the wakelock. Rebooting normally gets rid of the lock for me, like I said, haven't quite figured it out yet.
Could anyone possibly add higher frequencies lets say up to 902? And most importantly, could someone also fix wifi on this kernel? I can almost guarantee that this would be the absolute best kernel available if all of this was done. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970543&page=68
The Kernel is Drowningkernel 8-9-1
Quick question: Would this work on the Slide?
Yes this already works on the slide. Just install thru clockworkmod recovery. its a very high performance kernel, the only problems are wifi and frequencies could be higher

I wonder. Setting such high frecuencies, wouldn't risk your cpu phone to get toasted???
Also, wouldn't it cause much more battery usage?
Br,
Zedd
I'm running drowning kernel 7 and I'm stable at 902, and I get a few reboots at 921 mhz. And for battery life, the smartass governer takes care of that, my phone lasts all day.

I was wondering why is it that when ever i install a new kernel with cm7, I can't connect or mount my usb to my computer?
Hmm that's strange I don't think I've ever ran into a problem like that. Not sure if I can help much with that but what I would suggest is, do a completely clean install of cm7 and then install the kernel or you could start a thread in the q&a section and maybe someone with more knoledge than me on that problem could help.

Yeah, I've tried drowningchild's .35 kernel and it's very smooth. But wifi isn't working at all with it. I remember his previous kernels were fully functional. I wish someone could make that .35 kernel for CM7
Maybe someone could modify drowningchild's 2.6.35.x CM Aria kernel so wifi would work?
Hey everyone!
Just got an EVO the other day and I have a unique situation.
I'm not utilizing a carrier, I bought this phone from Craigslist, works great, utilizing google voice and groove ip for sms/phone with Verizon Mobile Hotspot for internet via wifi/tether.
That said... I'm curious about phones with similar hardware and flashing roms/kernels.
Is the radio in control of my wifi?
What I mean is... is it possible to flash other roms from other parts of XDA with similar hardware, such as the Nexus One? The research I did tells me they have basically the same hardware so I was curious.
My main reason? I am utilizing CM7 but unless I missed something somewhere, there isn't really an AOSP rom for this phone that is UV/OC? I've seen the sense ones but that's it.
Just curious what you guys might make of my situation and suggestions you may have for me? I almost feel like I'm in unchartered waters lol. Just need wifi to work so I can tether to my hotspot and of course the speaker/mic to work for calls, then it's just a matter of software/apps etc...
Any ideas, suggestions or questions are welcomed. Thanks!
No. Don't do it.

Very insightful, thank you so much.
I guess I should note. I'm not an idiot... I just don't understand development inside and out... If you said "it won't work because the flux capacitor won't jolt to 1.21 jiggawatts" (that's a Jay-Z measured watt) then I would take that, but your response was very unwarranted.
Again, thanks for the input.
If any DEVS have an educated answer I would be greatly appreciative
If you flash a rom from another phone, you will either get booloops (if you're lucky) or a very nice paperweight / brick.
Many of the roms in the evo dev section are ports from other devices that take months to complete so they are safe to use or even boot on an evo.
So to reiterate, don't do it.

I'm a Sense guy, and I'm assuming you want AOSP so I'll tell you what I run when I do run AOSP, it never fails me
Deck's ROM or MIUI with Tiamat 4.1.0 SBC kernel
The kernel would be in charge of UV/OC and Wi-Fi
Use Amon Ra as recovery
Wipe everything except for SD card twice
Flash ROM
Navigate to mounts menu and mount everything except for SDext
Flash kernel
Flash Vipermod (allows undervolt)
Reboot.
Reboot.
Go to terminal and type:
su
vipermod
Choose how much you want to undervolt. And usually I undervolt by -50
Type in 10 to save changes.
Reboot.
I almost always underclock. To OC/UC, go Settings-Advanced Settings for Deck's and set at boot or Download No Frills CPU for MIUI (have to go to Superuser app and hit menu button and allow root)
Do not flash anything from a different phone... Mount points are different, different kernels and it would be an absolute mess
