All,
Upgraded my unbranded UK TP2 to WM6.5 yesterday and just re-installed all the apps; here's some initial impressions.
It IS worth doing the hard reset to do the upgrade. First off, you're going to have a nice clean install which is always a good thing; secondly WM6.5 itself is more evolution than revolution; small graphical tweaks, things are 'easier' to stab at with your fingers (the screen seems more forgiving), and text/menu options/e-mails etc are spaced out more to make using the device easier on the run.
Some changes/good things/quirks in WM6.5:
Owner information option is gone from the "settings" menu. Simply activate on the Today Screen, click where it says "Touch here to enter owner information" and you're in the same place. Don't bother messing with a nice clean install with that .cab file doing the rounds on here when you just don't have to.
The honeycomb menu is a personal choice, but it's flexible and clean looking enough to make it easy to navigate around. I've gone from using SPB Menu 2 (as version 3 just did NOT integrate with TF3D and the phone contacts (soft key) option) back to just using the standard WM6.5 menu and Today Screen.
WM6.5 introduces new options to reject calls with a text message - most useful.
WM6.5 introduces a new option to automatically activate the pen notes application when the stylus is removed from the holster during a call. The main reason to remove the stylus is to scribble a phone number down, so this option is again, most welcome.
VOICE DIALLING OVER BLUETOOTH WORKS AGAIN! The feature I missed the most on my TP2 works again. I installed MS Voice Dialler 1.6UK version and with my Jawbone BT headset I'm back to normal operation.
Re-organising the main honeycomb menu is a little painful; rather than a nice "hold and drag" method, you can only "Move To Top" or "Move Down". Putting things into folders and using File Explorer is the order of the day.
The new 'slide to unlock' screen lock is a real boon for not messing up your phone while it's in your holster and avoids installing battery killing 3rd party apps.
FM Radio application is installed as a default. Again, no need for 3rd party hacks or apps.
WiFi reception and throughput speed appears to have been boosted. I certainly get a better reception in my home, in the same locations I used to get slow/juttery video streaming in.
Battery increments - not seen it in 1% as yet, anyone else confirm if it's 1 or 10% increments?
No major application incompatibility problems that I can see as yet.
Run the Rhodium Advanced Config app over the device to ensure fast GPS, A-GPS and the like is tweaked to your convenience and you'll find you can get pretty much everything you want done with a standard configuration, with your normal apps installed on it, rather than hacking and tweaking. As a result the system takes a much smaller memory footprint and everything seems to hang together more smoothly and without slowing the system down.
Hope this helps clear some things up for your normal/power users looking to update their devices. All-in-all I'm really happy with the WM6.5 update. It almost feels like the TP2 was made in the first place for WM6.5 and its just come to life with it, almost as if WM6.1 was a (temporary) necessary retrograde step that HTC didn't want to do...
Thanks and be good to see other people's feedback on the update.
Adam.
Thx for the update.
Very glad to hear that voice dialing over BT is working again and that there is a slide to lock and FM Radio (without having to install battery killing 3th party apps).
Looks very promising.
Hope I can install this soon and add some comments. Dutch version however not yet available.
The quick drop down menu from the start button is gone in 6.5/ Is there a decent cab to get it back? I've tried some previously that did not work. One thing I would miss with 6.5. Yeah, I know a petty thing to some, important to me.
I dislike BT so that feature means nothing, don't care for titanium or tf3d, so ms 3.5 is my prefered ui. My tp2 is one of the most finger friendly phones I've had yet even while running 6.1 . I know it always seems to make sense to upgrade to the latest and greatest, but the latest isn't neccessarily the greatest.
Having tried several diff cooked 6.5's on my old tp I may sit this one out for awhile. If you've neve tried 6.5 then by all means one should give it a try. Judge for yourself.
Bluetooth
Does the fact that Voice Dialling now works over BT mean that htc have upgraded the BT stack, ie hopefully gone back to the MS one?

Maybe I'm missing something. It seems that the slide to unlock doesn't lock the hardware buttons. If the phone is in a case or a pocket and a call comes in, it's possible to accidentally press the hardware accept or hang up button. That's a problem that only seems solvable using 3rd party apps.
I'm very satisfied with this 6.5 rom release. It includes basically everything I wanted. The only thing is the Manila 6.5 with the animated today menu that changes as the weather from your localization changes.
even though this official release of winMo 6.5 looks great (installed the french one on an unbranded tp2) :
-i think the colored tf3d look is giving the rhodium a less serious image (too much green in it
-in general, the OS seem to be quite heavy for the device
-there's an obvious problem with the tf3d today clock (which is always giving me exactly 1hour & 2minutes earlier for 2seconds everytime i press the "no" button)
-also i noticed that the wi-fi antenna doesn't automatically reconnect to the selected network after i put the phone out of sleep mode, while the wi-fi antenna stays active on the phone!!?
and seriously guys, i still don't get why they didn't provide tp2 users with manila 2.5, it makes absolutelly no "SENSE"
thank you so much.
could you tell us if tom tom run ok and if you can use it in landscape mode?
s2u2 is compatible?
sorry of my english.
thank you

agreed, it's a bit annoying, it also deactiveates the wi-fi when you soft reset the device... I'm sure there will be a tweak for it soon!

s2u2 still works but the new 'lock' that this version of Windows Mobile is very similar...
I noticed the thing about the clock temporarily showing the time an hour and 2 minutes earlier for about 2 seconds. Can the OP please explain how I can get the owner info screen to enter my details. I cant find anywhere on the today screen where it says 'tap to enter information'

This is a feature of the manila/sense itself to give the effect of the old clocks with the flipping numbers.

never had this with the stock rom, plus it's more than annoying when it happens after using the task manager or locking the device with the "no/end call" button... so it often happens to me and when it does, it's three times in two seconds so thanks to htc guys for making it worst

I think it actually has something to do with the my location thing, but since I can't get that to work properly most of it is just an annoyance. Lol
E-mail to HTC (bug that I found in Manila 2.1 in the WM 6.1 that still maintains in WM 6.5):
Good Morning
I've been using the Windows Mobile 6.1 for a while and found a bug that I was expecting to be solved in the 6.5 release but unfortunately no.
When I choose in the weather tab the City of Lisbon, Portugal and update the forecast it corrects me the system time to GMT CASABLANCA instead of using the correct GMT LONDON, DUBLIN.
The Portuguese Time includes changes to the Winter Time and Summer Time, like in UK. To correct that I need to use always as my default city London, not taking use of the function from the new Manila: "My Location".
Can that be corrected in a next release?
Best Regards

Quick and easy - don't bother downloading and installing cabs, this is easier!
Go to Settings -> Today and make sure that in the "Items" tab, the option for "Owner Info" is ticked.
Now go to your today screen. There will be the owner information line - and if you've entered nothing, it'll say "Tap to enter info..." just tap there and enter the info in the control panel that appears.
If you then don't want Owner Info on your today screen (but just wanted to enter a username for app registration etc), then go back into Settings -> Today and untick the Owner Info option.
Thx,
Adam.
This is not One X specific as had same issue on all android phones I tested.
As I never had any for longer never looked to fix it. HD2 android was for fun and Motorola defy as GPS only.
1. Is there a way to make the phone not interrupt music each time it plays notification for e-mail or any other event, more importantly is it possible to make it not stop music while playing GPS instructions?
2. Can I set the GPS to start automatically with Co-Pilot or Google navigation and shut off when I switch off the apps?
3. Is it possible to make the co-pilot work in background and after screen is turned off (still navigate and give voice directions)?
4. Is there a normal way of deleting e-mails in gmail account. If I select e-mails and click delete it downloads them again from server at next update over and over again. The only way I found how to delete it is to select the offending e-mails, move them to thrash folder then run an update. Then delete them. What gives? BTW for e-mail I only use HTC mail app.
5. Can I set the browser to always open websites in full desktop view? Even if I have desktop view option ticked some websites first open in mobile view. I then have to un-tick desktop view so it reloads and tick it again so it reloads to desktop view.
6. Is there an app that will allow me to assign long press key functions to 3 buttons at the bottom?
7. Finally is there an app that will switch off volume buttons when screen is off, always. It is the same issue as it was on HD2 and HD7 however there buttons needed some force to operate on One X a small pressure will operate volume bar. Just winding the headphone wire loosely around phone activates volume buttons.
My device is rooted and is a Tegra 3 device.
Finally a proper One X question is there a list of all pre-installed apps in the stock One X Europe device, description what they do and if it is safe to remove them?
Hey there! I Can sortoff help with a couple of these.
1. Ive experimented with this myself, and i have found that putting the phone to vibrate/silent stops the interruption nearly all the time, at worst it makes the song miss a second.
And for bloatware on your device, most is safe to remove, things such as 7digital, i dont know how to delete them, but you can disable them to make your phone run smoother.
Settings>Apps>All> Find one and tap it> uninstall
If it may cause a disturbance you get a safety warning and a caution about confirming hope this helped alittle.
JDBurnie, thx. I know how to remove bloat ware just root your device. I removed 7 digital, soundhog, few htc services I will never use and all reporting tools. I just know there is more there as there are apks there I have no idea what they link to. Like Coca service? It does not provide free coca-cola or white snow
Re point one will test, it is not a solution but workaround only sadly.
Okay man, no problem and yeh I was looking to do that myself, I've tried alot of roots but I can't seem to root my phone I follow instructions religiously and it doesn't seem to work... But disabling them will work for me good luck!

I used the method where you unlock bootloader via HTCdev.com. Especially that now you can do OTA with it quite easy. Bit of script edit on the phone and then use recovery to load it.

if the sony smartwatch is anything like my motorola motoactv, then the answer button only pops up if you have headphones connected to the watch itself. if no headphones detected, it will default to decline.

It works, but not flawlessly. There's an issue with the OS that can activate talk-back (or parts thereof). It only comes into play if you install some of the third-party notification apps, like Watch It (really good). It can be fixed permanently (in a non-ideal why) or temporarily fixed (less convenient but does not require disabling Engines). You'll know when you've got this issue, because your phone will unexpectedly say to you "the folder is opening..." when you open a folder. It's a minor irritation, but it gets on your nerves very quickly.
The watch itself works very well with my Note 2. Never dropped connection so far, seems to reliably get notifications (I have actually started to turn some off - as I get more than I thought I did!).
I like how it works with my phone. I see the Smartwatch as an evolutionary step to a decent version, which hopefully Sammy or Google will release. And at $100, you can't really go wrong.
Quite a few apps, and one or two of the paid ones are worth it, but mostly the free ones will do you just fine.

Actually i just wanted to know that the apps for smartwatch are perfectly working with Note 2 or not, as i tried the call handler app in smartwatch with note 2, then i find that there is no accept button on smartwatch to accept the call only decline button is there and also find the issue with the music app. So the issue is just with mine or every one facing the same . If you are facing the same issue then is there any way to get rid of this.
Please please please reply.

The SmartWatch is not fully compatible with the Note 2 for the phone answering App. It only works fully with Sony phones. There is no accept-call option in anything other than Sony phones.
Regards.
Considering you probably will want to take the phone out of your pocket before answering it, I don't see that as a real issue. "watch it" (and other programs that use accessibility settings) clashes with some other settings on the phone causing unexpected voice feedback and disabling the continuous input on the stock keyboard.. Other than that its fine..

Yes you can control music: start/stop, last/next, volume up/down.
No, there is no earphone port (use bluetooth headphones - who needs cables?)
I have found the watch controls music flawlessly, albeit not very conveniently in all honesty. Personally, I use the watch more to screen incoming messages and notifications. I don't try to do anything too fancy as it's easier to just use the phone.
On the subject of incompatibility with the TTS engines, there's no doubt this is an inconvenience, but not a great one. What happens is that the Note II (and I think other Android phones) starts talking to you when you don't want it to. For me, the biggy was it speaking out aloud "the folder is open..." (or "...closed") whenever I opened/closed a folder containing Apps. To say the least, it's distracting. If you disable the TTS engines (as I have done, undone, redone etc.) to fix the "folder is open..." issue (which fixes it for me, anyway) then you lose "DRIVING MODE" capability (which I rarely use) at least, and probably other speech apps too. The good news is that Navigation still works fine, even with the Samsung and Google TTS engines disabled. This is clearly not ideal, but only Google can fix it at the OS level, and they seem to be in no hurry at all.
I still think the Sony watch is a good product, as it allows me to receive and screen emails, RSS, tweets and to read them discreetly. It's much less distracting (and much less obvious, e.g. at meetings) than trying to read a phone.
I do still hope Samsung looks at this market though, as they will clean Sony's clock if they ever launch a similar product.

Heh. No it's very common. I know of two fixes: one is TEMPORARY, but does not require you to disable any apps; the other seems to PERMANENTLY fix the problem, but it results in disabling TTS apps. You have to figure out which of these two evils is the lessor:
Temp fix - go to setting-> applications and find the two TTS Aps (Google and Samsung). Clear the cache on both. It temporarily fixes the problem (on my Note II anyway). Bad news: it comes back, seems to be random. I have never figured out why, and now I don;t even try...
Permanent fix (the one I have today). Go to settings->apps and DISABLE said google and Samsung TTS engines. Problem goes away, but you may lose some important functionality (I haven't - Driving Mode is killed, but I don;t use it anyway). You can always re-enable these apps, by going to settings->apps, scrolling all the way to the bottom and re-enabling them. I have tried re-enabling, but this little bug comes right back after a random delay, so now, I just accept it.
Regards,
Andrew
PS - don't blame Samsung, blame google. This is their problem.
PPS - all SonyWatch notification apps seem to trigger this - on my Note II anyway. I tried 'em all.

Hi, I am getting a little exasperated as every time I go to the Settings on my HTC 10, there is a Suggestion to enable On-Body detection for the Smart Lock.
I don't want to use this function, and every time it comes up, I click the three dots to Remove it, but it comes back when I open Settings again. I don't use a Smart Lock on my phone, so how can I stop this annoying reminder from re-appearing?
Thanks,
Simon.

As there was no response here, I ended up going into Google settings, activating the On Body Detection, then deactivating again, and that seems to have stopped the constant nagging. It would still be useful to know why the Remove option wasn't working, though.

simon your not alone, This notification as been on my phone for months now, very annoying ,and nothing so far will remove it. Why it says remove and it just comes back is beyond me. My LG K10 every once in a while will start making intermittent sounds similar to the old "Pong" game. There are no text messages or window or alerts that pop up when this happens, it seems to happen randomly and sometimes the sounds come through in rapid fire succession if I am driving around town. It tends to wear down my battery faster whenever this occurs. I check to see if any functions are active by hitting the square at the lower right corner of the screen and nothing shows as running.
Also when this happens a volume setting bar shows up as a pop up at the top of the screen, if I try to mute it, it does not allow me to. If I move the slider bar all the way to the left to kill the volume, the next pong sound moves the bar over to full volume. When this occurs I have zero control of the audio output volume of my phone.
This is extremely annoying and I am about to smash this phone into a thousand pieces. Questions, is this the result of a virus? Or is this the result of someone else taking control of my phone? Is this some kind of "feature" of which I am supposed to be thankful? Is there any way on this planet to put an end to this hyper annoying BS?
This is my first Android phone, I was an iPhone user previously. I am seriously considering getting rid of this and going back to iPhone. Please help.

Yes tried admin, there are no admins other than Android Device Manager.
I have not added any apps since I bought the phone.
To me it sounds like half functional malware. Did you bought new phone from shop, or used one from someone else? However the best way of solving would be to flash stock firmware, you have tutorial for that on this forum.

Yes you can, but first you will have to make backup file on phone, or you can backup contact with some LG PC software. Also you can backup to Dropbox/mega/drive via share option from contacts. Let me know did you solved problem via flashing stock firmware.
