[Q] Miui XJ a2sd+ - d2ext x-part worth the jump? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
Could someone please tell me if it's worth making the jump to x-part from a2sd+, and if so how do I do this please?
Many thanks!

I use X-Part, and the main reason I do, because the system recognizes the whole EXT partition as Internal, so more applications can be installed. Also others said, that x-part has less bugs.
To change simply download the X-Part version of the ROM and flash it. Full wipe needed AFAIK.

I did that yesterday without a glitch. A2sd+ isnt recognize my ext4 partition and I just download d2ext xpart, wipe, wipe, wipe..and install new rom. Now its showing 0.9gb of internal memory and working lightspeed fast. Just noticed higher battery usage than average.

Thanks! Going to give it a try. Just one more thing, my 16gb sd card is partitioned like this..
1.Primary- fat 32 - The rest
2.Primary- ext 3 - 1 GB
3.Primary- linux-swap - around 100 MB
Can I leave it like this, just do a full wipe and then flash the rom?
Cheers.

I think not. Rom will recognize your ext3 partition and will include it into installation (remove apps to sd on first boot, i think) and it will continue to use it. put some old, one partition (fat32) sd card into phone and try to install rom.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Ok...I can now confirm it's worth the jump!
Miui XJ d2ext x-part is brilliant, and superfast!
I reformatted my 16GB sd with fat 32 + 1GB ext4 partition. I now have tons of space, with no fear of shrinking internal storage, and it's very fast compared to the a2sd+ XJ version.
I have been told in another forum that the speed increase is a placebo effect, and most likely a figment of my imagination, and apparently X-part quadrant scores mean diddly squat. It's a great placebo effect though!

[Q] Out of Space - [ROM][New Sense HD][01 Feb]Z v2.0 D2Ext - Lightning quick !!

Hi there people i just flashed the [ROM][New Sense HD][01 Feb]Z v2.0 D2Ext - Lightning quick !!
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837948
The other roms ive used have not have space problems but this one doesnt seem to work for me. They ahve been a2sd+ and not d2ext
I have a 16 GB Kingston Cat10 card ive partitioned like this.
10gb fat32, 4gb ext4, 1gb ext4, 1gb swap
I figured that would leave me with plenty of space for apps.
But when i try to install android agenda widget it tells me i dont have enough space on the device that seems odd doesnt it? Or should i have gone for a2sd++ instead of d2ext ?
The only reason i rooted was due to lack of space for apps.
Not exactly sure what went wrong but your ext partitions are ridiculously big and I belief you run in to issues with partitions bigger than something around 2Gb.
Try ext partitions accordion to the recommend sizes or at least stay under 2Gb and try again.
On top of what the fella mentions above (he's right), sometimes you get this error with that ROM when you have concurrent downloads ensuing. It's a false call. Let all your installs finish before reinstalling. It should work the second or third time in my experience.

I might have found the problem but not a solution.
Doesnt realy matter how i partition wipe all partitions and so on.
When i boot recovery with clockwork and flash update.zip i go to wipe/system reset and it tells me the following:
Error mounting SDEXT:!
Apparently it whont mount my ext partition i can mount everything else.
Partition table is now:
11GB Fat32, 2GB Ext4, 1GB ext4 1GB swap.
EDIT.
Might have been semi solved, i flashed a new rom RCS MixHD v2.0
Seems like its basicly the same.
The phone runs and the apps seems to be installed on sd.
Still the same problem in clockwork though.

[Q] Apps to SD on Froyo 2.2 (stock)

Hi All,
I have a stock Froyo 2.2 ROM on GSM Desire (rooted + S-Off)
am very happy with it but my internal memory is full (+/- 6Mb) thus would like to move some apps to SD
I am newbie on this subject and yes, I tried using the search but I get "Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 20-30 minutes." this happens for a few days now
all help is welcome and sorry for my english !!
Thanks
You need a custom ROM and an EXT3 partition on your SD card
yep, partition your SD card this way: first a FAT 32 partition and AFTER a 512mb or a 1 gb ext 3 or ext 4 partition (use gparted and a card reader or mount sd card while in recovery)
then install a custom rom with apps2sd+ (there is a variety of them, if you want to stick with the stock desire froyo there is one with apps2sd+ added, however you could also try leedroid - modified desire rom or baadnewz DHD - desire HD rom)
there is also a soulution called data2sd or data2ext or data2whatever (i dont really know the diffrence) it moves even more stuff to sd card, but you would need to have a class 6 sd card (at least) but you will probably be okay with A2SD+ (also i think it is less stable than a2sd+)
i use apps2sd+ rom with 512mb ext4 on a class 2 sd card, baadnewz DHD rom 1.9.1 and it works fast (really fast), and after installing all of my apps i have still around 90mb of free space! (while on a rom without apps2sd+ i was out of free internal memory, had 7mb left or something)
Thanks for your detailed reply
will do a nandroid and try one.
will I still have clockworkmod recovery if i experiment with roms ?
Yep as it's not touched by custom ROMs

which rom - android 2.3 + sense 3

Hi
Does a rom exist which features gingerbread 2.3 and sense UI which doesn't require a custom hboot or a partitioned SD card. I.e. will run from a fully standard rooted htc desire?
If so what is it called, if not will someone briefly explain what the extra partition is required for?
thank you
Jim
dont know if there is one without need of an ext partition.
But its very usefull!
Why you need it?
Because, Dev's have moved files from the system to the partition on the sd.
In most cases you gain much more space for apps.
If you want to know more, search the wiki or forum for : a2sd, data2sd, data2ext, and so on.
its very easy to do, but safe all your data on the sd before!
only thing you need is a 500+ free space on your sd-card
if you have a linux, you only need to install gparted
else
start a linux-livecd of your choice(maybe Gparted-livecd)
Insert your Sd into a Cardreader
if you already use gparted, its easy, there will be an fat 32 partition
click resize and move the right slider so you gain about 500mb-1gb free space
now click into the gray area and click new
than partition as ext (would suggest ext-3 (best suported))
you should be done
now you can try roms wich need ext-partition
good luck
You can run roms with standard hboot but you need an ext partition purely because you will install about 3 apps and you will run out of space. That's why they make it mandatory to have.

Now that you know why you need EXT partition here is 1 of many tutorials how to do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9580475&postcount=2
you need 1 Fat32 partition followed by 1 EXT4 partition (recommended by most developers 1GB if you want to use sense 3.0 goodies).
I have the same question: which ROM actually gives you gingerbread and sense 3.0 at the same time? There is no problem with partitioned SD-card.
So far I have found this post from Cool Kingdom, which seems (from comments) great:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
havn't tried it yet, but just wondering if there is anything to choose from?
PS: is there a way to partition my SD card without card reader, just using the phone itself?
Thanks a lot

New versions of ClockworkMod Recovery can do it under Advanced/Partition SD.
You can install InsertCoin - it's a great gingerbread and sense 3.0 rom. I've been using it for over a month and it's great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
About the ext partition - I think it's a must. You'll get plenty of space for apps...
Looking at the Cool Kingdom rom on youtube, it seems pretty laggy in comparison to the InsertCoin rom I have installed on my desire. InsertCoin seems to be more optimised I find, but you'll need to install the nightly version to have 3D widgets and the 3D homescreen.

Which script is better for Class 2 SD

Hi!
I would know it's better A2SD, A2SD+ or DATA++ in relation of a Class 2 SD (4 GB included in Desire).
Thanks in advance.
Since the Data++ version is claimed to fit in a 90MB /sytem partition, I assume that in this version a large part of the ROM has been moved to the sd-ext. This allows you to use a smaller /system and hence have a larger /data partition (hence the name). I'm not sure (because I've only read the first couple of posts, nothing more) whether the Data++ also includes a2sd, or just assumes you will keep your apps in the enlarged data partition. It's probably in the LeeDroid thread somewhere.
If you are not S-Off then it's easy - you want the a2sd version, no argument.
If you are, and are using a custom mtd or an alpharev table with a small /system, large /data, you could try Data++. Which is better will depend on which works best for you (in terms of speed, number of apps you need to install). I've never used either, so cannot offer any experience there.

Source: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/372688-whats-difference-between-data-a2sd.html
So, the data++ script uses the ext3 partition more than the a2sd/a2sd+ layout (only difference between a2sd/a2sd+ is that with a2sd+ the dalvik cache will also be moved to sd-ext). If you sd card is too slow, there could occur perfomance problems. But I used an class 2 sd card with a2sd+ myself and never had perfomance problems. So I would say it's your choice.
The speed of sd card actually becomes really important if you want to use data2sd (aka data2ext).

[Q] InsertCoin A2SD or A2SD+?

Hello,
I am new in all the things connected to ROM's, but I have rooted my Desire and s-off. I really like InserCoin at the moment, but I do not know which version to choose. I have STOCK HBOOT, but maybe I should better put CM7 HBOOT and use A2SD? If I understand correctly then CM7 HBOOT has more space for apps, because /data is 287M, but STOCK 147M? As I see changing HBOOT is not very hard, so I want to know.
I have class 4 SD card, and I want to install apps and not to worry about the free space. Which do you suggest?
Also wanted to know some info about EXT2/3/4, I found lots of comments, but everyone says different which to use. Which would be the most optimal for me?
Thank You!
I've been an Insertcoin user until the developer stopped supporting HTC Desire. Since you have a class 4 card, I would suggest you try the Stock Hboot version and see if it's fast enough for you.
If I can remember correctly the main difference between the Stock and CM7 version is that on the CM7 version, dalvik cache was left in the data partition of the phone while on the Stock everything was moved to the EXT partition of the SD card.
They say that CM7 is faster given the fact that dalvik is on the phone and not on the SD card. I've only used the CM7 version so I really can not verify how big is the difference in speed between the Stock and CM7 version.
I've used EXT4 partition as it was recommended for Insertcoin. I never really bothered trying out the other partition types.
The difference between A2SD and A2SD+ is, that with the last one not only app, also dalvik cache is moved to EXT-partition. So if your SD card is not fast enough, you will have lags. But I have moved A2SD+ with a Class 2 SD card and never had any problems. So I recommend to test if A2SD+ is working for you. I am pretty sure it will.
If you wanna use DATA2SD, you may need a new SD card because a Class 4 SD card might be too slow. Although I would also test before.
My recommendation for the type of the EXT-partition is 4, because it is the fastest.
OK, Thank you both for the information, will try A2SD+ and EXT4 later today.
