I carried my HTC Desire in my pocket on a walk, when I looked at it at the end there was some moisture under the screen. I left it in rice over night and it switched on fine the next day.
Now, I can't hear people speak when they call, Music plays very very tinny and I think the speaker might need replacing? When I plug headphones in, I can hear music and voices fine.
How hard is it to replace the speaker and will this likely solve my problem? Is this something I can do myself with the £5 parts and tools from ebay? I have had the phone just under 18 months in the UK and wondered if anyone knew whether this was covered under HTC warranty?
Thanks
Tom
Update: Sound does appear to be playing through the speaker when watching videos/in apps, just I can't hear voices from a phone call unless I plug headphones in. I can't work out if the speaker sounds quite as loud as it used to, but it doesn't sound too bad (it was never great in the first place!) So does anyone know why I can't hear the voices in the call?
Thanks,
Tom

OK, so, I got an sx66 off ebay for $19.50 (sorry to the gentleman I outbid).
Problem is, the speaker doesn't work quite right. I had a wallaby and seem to remember sounds being much louder than they are this sx66.
When I tried a test call to my wife, she could hear me, but I couldn't hear her, and when I did, it seemed like she was whispering and (it seemed like) my volume was down almost all the way (both volumes were turned all the way up).
I didn't try the headset with a call, but did try it with general use clicks and menues, and the headset sounded alright.
Bad speaker or bad chip?
TIA!
EDIT: Just tried the headset while on the phone with the wife; it sounded ok. I also plugged in the headset about 30x, just to make sure the little headset sense switch was not malfunctioning. It didn't effect anything.
HELP, please.

Got impatient and threw in a Razr speaker.
Problem solved for now, but I want a real speaker, or upgraded speaker. I already posted in market place, but if your reading this, do you know where to get one, or which speakers will fit, that's an upgrade?
TIA
In the photo's you can see an sx56 and sx66 speaker, and the earphone and speaker phone from a Razr. Also a closeup of the sx56 and 66 speakers (it would have helped me earlier to have found that)

Upgrades here I come.
I've had this phone for about a year now, and it seems every 4 months my headphones lose audio in one ear.
The first time it happened it was the ear buds (w/ mic) that came with the phone, so I thought they probably weren't that great to begin with and bought a new pair with the mic attached. Worked for few months and then same thing happened, I wouldn't get sound out of one ear. So then I started using a pair of headphones with no microphone attached to it and yesterday I started hearing the audio start to go in and out of one of the ears. So I know the inevitable is about to happen.
The headphones with the mic, I'd lose the audio on the side the microphone would be on as well, and on the other one I'm losing it on the right side. I'm assuming this is a jack problem, is there anyway to fix it because I really don't want to have to go out and buy new headphones every few months.
I've tried searching for help but all I keep seeing are people saying they wouldn't get audio once plugged in and not that they keep losing it over time and with different headphones like I'm experiencing.
Thanks for any help offered.
Everything else on this phone works fine, but the audio from the headphone jack only plays sound on the left. The right will work for a split second if you are playing music on the external speakers and plug in the headphones. I cleaned the hole, but that didn't do anything. When plugged in, no matter how I wiggle and turn the plug, the right audio does not work. I'm assuming the jack is bad, because it sure as hell is NOT my actual headphones. It doesn't look like anybody else has had this issue with this phone. They don't even sell new parts for this.
I bought the phone from AT&T in june. Do any of you know if it'll be covered under the 1 year manufacture warranty? I don't have insurance on this phone otherwise.
Well guess what guys, I was chatting with an AT&T rep on the web and long story short, he had me pull out the battery with the phone still on and put it back in. After I restarted it, the headphone audio works perfectly now. I don't know how or why it went out to begin with or how it magically works again but I'm a happy camper again.
Yes, I know there are other threads with the ear piece issue, but I wanted to see if this little extra bit of information changes the situation.
Initial G3 on Sprint had ear piece crackling. Took 1 1/2 weeks to reliably reproduce for the techs. Swapped phone, same issue but not as bad.
Last night I tested using ear buds during a call. Exact same crackling during the call, but only through the left ear bud. Sounds like a loose speaker (from my car audio days) but happens in both the earpiece and with the ear buds.
Today is my last day to swap the phone for free. Trying to determine if this is software or hardware related and if a swap is warranted, or even worth my time. I love this phone, but the crackling is annoying.
Is anyone else having a issue with people being able to hear you while you have the phone to your ear? When i have my phone to my ear and i talk no one can hear me but they can hear me when its on speakerphone. Also they can hear me when i have headsets or Bluetooth plugged in. Not sure if its broken or what its causing it to act this way.
I have a problem with my microphone as well. It sounds really quiet and has a lot of background noise. PM me a sample of it recorded with the sound recorder app and I'll send you a sample.
I'm going to RMA mine and hopefully get one without the problem (and the one dead ****ing pixel I have, ugh)
