Probably a newbie questions but is there something equivalent to a nandroid backup on the Epic 4G Touch? I noticed that there a few ROMs out there and would like to give them a whirl but not being able to back up the entire phone in case I want to quickly revert to something working is giving me second thoughts.
If you have clockwork mod, you can make a nandroid backup on the Epic 4G Touch.
what about the whole wimax keys issue?
How can you make a nandroid backup with clockwork? I have cwm5 and it wont let me do a backup at all.
also, from the app itself, it doesnt even give the epic touch 4g in the list of phones, only the international and ATT galaxy SII.

What "app" are you referring to? ROM Manager?
To do a backup in CWM, you boot into recovery. Once you have, you'll see about 4 down from the top Backup/Restore. Scroll to that, press the power button and then you'll see your choices.
In regards to WiMax keys, that's an HTC thing. Samsung does it differently, so no worries.

So I have a hardware 002 evo, and I just checked and found out I don't have any rsa keys. This isn't the end of the world because I don't have 4g in my area. I was wondering what could have caused this problem? I thought it was only new evo's that could get this? My sisters hw 004 evo is fine, and I rooted the same way. Could it have been a recovery I flashed? Also, is there anything I can do to get them back? As far as I know (a quick search on here) you're sol unless you get a new phone. That's probably what I would do if I ever get 4g in my area (goddamnit). Any (helpful) comments would be appreciated

I've had it happen to me when I've been flashing many roms and all of the sudden they are gone. Question: Did you use amon ra recovery? If so you can back up your wimax rsa keys. Or plug your phone in goto sdcard>nandroid>pick a previous backup and then look for a wimax.img, that should contain your rsa keys. You could copy that from a previous nandroid and paste them in a newer backup and re-restore. Hope that helps... If you do not have a wimax.img file then yes you could have possibly lost your rsa keys, best thing is to unroot and return it to sprint and they should swap it out. Best of luck, your welcome.
Yea I don't know for how long my keys have been gone so I'm going to try the backup restore but my guess is that they have been gone for a while.
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to sprint I go...

Yeah, if you don't have them now and you don't have them backed up, you're in trouble

What recovery were you using if I may ask
I've used clockwork and amon ra, but I stray towards clockwork. I like the functionality with rom manager. I think if I manage to get a new evo I will switch to amon ra. I still don't think it was the recovery, I remember screwing up a radio flash and pulling my battery in the middle of it which is probably what did it.

Yes, that's exactly what caused it.
yea the most common way to screw up RSA keys is incorrectly or failed radio flashes. this will take them out most of the time. your lucky yuo didnt brick the phone at least. I have heard a ton of stories of people pulling battery during radio and that being all she wrote.
I believe clockwork now backs up wimax as well. this may not be of much help as it is a relatively newer additon to both recoverys i believe. yuor best bet may be to go to your oldest back up containing a wimax image and try restoring it. if still a no go then you are hurting.
Sprint may or may not help you depending on if they are dicks and can tell if you rooted or not. I wish you luck man
After I root can I run a Nandroid restore if they are different hardware versions?
Not smart to do especially since it will over right your wiimax keys. Each key is reserved for one phone and account

Good point
Yes dont restore nandroid from a different phone. You will overwrite your wimax keys, and may not even be able to make calls or use 3g.
You can certainly restore your apps via Titanium, but just dont use nandroid.
Start from scratch man. You flash that nandroid you might as well kiss 4G goodbye. I learned that the hard way. New phone new beginning.

doesnt amon it ask you if you want to back those up?
See I didn't read anything prior to this but I just got a replacement evo two days ago and rooted it and just did a restore of everything. I've been using MIUI, but I didn't have any problems what so ever with anything, but maybe I was lucky....

If you did a full restore, then you definitely did overwrite your wimax keys.
I thought nandroid only backed up Wimax keys if it was specified? I'm using Clockwork (I know, i know) and it has a check box for wimax.
Need help fixing 4g. Dont know when it stopped working but I have tried other roms and no luck. I have updated the radio then the profile and then the prl, I rebooted and then did the wimax and profile and prl and deleted some wimax file like one of the post said to do. No luck at all
I then tried to unroot to see if sprint would swap it out. When I try to unroot it tells me my battery is less then 30% and the other ruus say they dont see my phone. I dont know how I rooted it but I think it was with unrevoked not sure.
4g says scanning then connecting and back to scanning thats it. I use mikrom 4.61 right now
Did you try restoring a backup that had wimax working?

Did you check your RSA keys with the app from the Market?
Is your battery less than 30%? If it is, plug it in. If you want to unroot, just dl the s-on zip, flash that, then place the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your SD Card and go to hboot and let it update.
I got it unrooted. I did the unrevoke on patch and tried like 5 zip files and one of them worked. So its stock but I don't think 4g is working yet ill know tomorrow when I goto work.
Now what is this thing from the market for? Never mind I looked it up. So if my key is lost what do I do then? Send it in?
And no I didn't have any backups

You should have to buy a new phone for being a moron. This is why every post about rooting reminds you to make a backup. You messed up live with the consequences. Sorry that is harsh, but this is preventable and all to common. People are way to over their heads messing with their phones like this. Now you will try to get your phone replaced and because of people like yourself replacement warrenties get more strict and costs go up. Sorry for the rant it just really annoys me that people keep ruining their phones because they are clueless.

Me? No I didn't. Everyone says to do a backup but when I found my backup it didn't help. Even the stock Rom didn't help. So if someone can tell me how to backup the wimax key that may help next time. But what I see is once its gone its gone, not even a backup will help. One thing I did learn is that I'm staying with mik's Rom lol.
I rooted my evo and now I see a wimax backup in the recovery. I have never seen that in the backup of the recovery before. But many things have changed so could it be something they added in down the road? I rooted the phone when it first came out. But now I see what you are talking about the backup. Maybe next time someone can fill me in on that and not be such a ass.

It's easiest to do with Amon-Ra recovery, which you can find out about installing if you do a search for Amon-Ra 2.3. When using Ra, go to backup, and just check "Wimax." It'll backup just your wimax. Now, just go into your nandroid folder on your sd and add a "-wimax_key"to the end of the file name so you can remember it, and then put that backup in multiple safe places.
Are you sure it's your phone that is having the issue? Sprint could just have an outage. I've had some janky 4g coverage lately.
If it is your phone, what recovery and version are you running? All the new recoveries backup the Wimax keys. It's not true that "once it is gone, it's gone." I imagine you ran Unrevoked to root it which installs Clockworkmod recovery, so your original nandroid backup should have the keys backedup already. In that case you'd just need to wipe and then restore the nandroid. Upon doing that, it will also restore your Wimax key. DL the Wimax key checker from the market as previously mentioned and verify your RSA (Wimax) key is present. You are good to go if so.

Thanks for the info. It was the phone for sure and I must have had the very first recovery version because I never seen the wimax backup before. Now on my new phone I see the wimax and other things I can backup. So on this one I checked them all and did my backup So that must be why the backup I found didnt help me. I never thought about checking to see if the recovery had updates.
I was installing a rom last night and a thought occurred to me which led to the question, what would happen if i were to take a nandroid backup of my phone with cwm 3.1.0.1 and restore it to a different samsung epic running the same version of cwm?

I assume it would work, but it'd probably put all of your personal info on it as well. You could always try, but make sure to make a nandroid on the "other" phone, and have odin just in case.

i think if you were to make a nandroid backup after installing a new rom b4 syncing with google or anything there would b no personal info to be copied to the other phone, right? might b another option for those whose pc doesnt see their phone.... one could possibly make customized versions of roms with specific apps quickly and easily.... sorry for the random txtspeak....

Ive always heard, and followed the rule. Never restore a nandroid on a different phone.
Nor sure what would happen, but it makes sense to me how every phone is so different.
Some kernels or radios work great on my phone and suck on yours. So I feel it might jack stuff up.

I wouldn't do it because the other person can have access to your GMail, texts, contacts, private apps, etc...
Then again, one time when i had the G1, we had a 2.1 Sense ROM Port, and nobody could Flash it except for ONE person. So he Flashed it, made a Nandroid before he did anything to the ROM, and we all Restored his Nandroid to our phones. That was the only way for us to Flash the ROM until the V2, V3, etc... Vegaman was a beast tbh.
Which makes me wonder, will we ever get Ports from Sense, Sony Ericson UI, Droid X/Droid 2/Droid 3 ROMs? I think maybe after the Kernel we could start working on them. That'd be BEAST! I know some guys working on Sense, hopefully it'll work soon though with the Kernel.

It works just fine. That is how you transfer everything to a new phone when you have to get a replacement. I just had to do this.

Did this as well about 2 months ago after i had to get a replacement. worked just fine.
would work perfectly fine...
just delete the data.img and cache.img and .android_secure soo all there is is a boot.img and system.img, then edit the nandroid.md5 to only have those files.. dont rename them.
on the new phone, restore the backup, then factory reset..
no personal information
I have just signed up for sprint and ordered the EVO 4g, and I have scoured the forums for an answer to no avail (buried deep?).
How does one get their RSA keys?
I am going to load cm7 asap when I get the phone and I was reading up on how to do so, along with many threads on how RSA keys are getting "lost".
I didn't see any how-to's on how to back up RSA (not only related to cm7, which is why I' posting here, please don't bite my head off)
Any help will be appreciated!

You can also install amon ra recovery and when you make a nandroid backup you can choose to backup WiMAX keys
Sent from my Warm 3.5 Evo using XDA app
I would install amon RA or the amon RA style supersonic recovery and make a backup with only the wimax option checked and then store that backup somewhere safe like dropbox or on a flashdrive so in case your PC goes down you still have a copy safe and sound
