OK, I am trying to figure out how to backup my phone now with CWM.
I have the starburst ver. 1.4 rom and CWM 5 with the provided SG30 plus1 kernel, but whenever i try to backup, CWM says it cannot mount the sdcard.
also, I have installed rom manager but the epic touch 4g doesnt seem to be supported yet from the app. it brings up a list of galaxy SII models, but the epic touch isnt included when i try to flash recovery through the app.
I am sure I am doing it wrong lol
help?
Ok here's the deal, you gotta use another app called titanium back up, its faster than mybackup pro. Or you'll need to turn off your phone and turn it back on in recovery mode. The keypress is usually vol up+camera+power simutaneously. Choose back up in cwm recovery menu. Hope that helps

If mounting is a problem then you might want to go to filesystems menu in recovery and make sure sdcard is set to mount if the option is to un-mount then its already set but make em all set to mount anyways, are you connected to pc? Don't be...

OK, I set the sdcard to mount, im not plugged into the computer, and it still wont make the backup.
Also, why when i try to create a backup though the app on the phone, it gives a list of galaxy SII phones, but not the Epic touch?
Is anyone else having this problem? Is this because CWM is ported over from another device and wasnt made specifically for this phone?
OK, changed to the zedomax kernel (with CWM 4) and can now do a backup through CWM
Why doesnt CWM 5 allow me to do a backup ?? anyone? no big deal at this point but something I would like to figure out nonetheless.

I've used the oneclick root/recovery script in the development forum and I am now using Clockwork Recovery 3.0.0.6. I am unable to mount the SDcard from recovery; I also have this problem with 3.0.0.5. I get the error "Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)" and googling this issue (and searching this forum) hasn't given me any help at all. Is anyone able to mount the SDcard in recovery at all?
I also would like to know why I cannot update clockwork recovery through Rom Manager. Koush has version 3.0.1.4 listed on his site here: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html. The 3.0.0.6/5 versions, in one-click root, flash zImage (recovery kernel?) but the files from Rom Manager do not have this. Why is this?
I noticed I cannot mount sd card in recovery also. I receive the same message as you did

Rom manager doesn't work on our epics. If you can't mount your SD card then you.migration need to format it. Make sure you back it up.

I just formatted the sdcard from recovery and I still have the same issue. Is there a better/different way to format it?
I'm having this problem today for the first time (i've mounted before with this version of CWM). Anybody ever find a fix?

im having the same problem cant seem to load a rom on it keeps on aborting ive had hell to put on cm recovery on to this phone had to push it through my laptop just to get it to work but now im stuck its the latest recovery 5.0.2.6 how to i get this sorted as i cant load a rom to my phone its taken me 4 days to just get the recovery on the phone and now its getting this is there a update.zip tht i can dwnload to solve this problem or is there a way to get around it
Personally if I were having this much problem with the phone, I would odin back to EC05 and start from scratch.
This will get you back to COMPLETE stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Whenever I've had a major problem, I would do this then start from scratch to get back to a rooted state.
Make sure that if you have an MTD partition layout you use the victory.pit.
Also, as an FYI Rom Manager DOES support the Epic 4G, when you use Rom Manager make sure to choose Epic 4G, not the one with MTD.
Its a lot of work, but this way you know that you are completely back at the beginning and a chance to make no mistakes when flashing.
(Has anyone tried reflashing from Rom manager? If its possible...)
i have read most of the threads and even though they make sense my phone is is worse then before i rooted it..somehow my contacts saved to my sd card but not my apps (they have folders but no info) plus somehow i got 40 phone #s once i booted up cm6... i know its crazy...the rom mangager fc a lot...and my backup on the computer is only contacts and pics for sum reason also i treid transferring the PC36IMG which shows up in the files but doesnt respond...this is not fun ...plsease help
I'm confused a little by your post. Why not just restore from your nandroid backup? Or flash a different rom?
Are you saying that Titanium Backup failed to restore your apps? Cyanogenmod is not Sense, which came with your phone. TB cannot restore apps from Sense.
If you want Sense, use a Sense ROM like Myn's... or Sprint Lovers if you like stock.

Make sure you are rooted with S-OFF displayed in the bootloader. To do this, turn off your EVO. Now press the down volume button while also pressing the power button until your device starts. You will enter the bootloader screen. You should see either S-ON or S-OFF at the top. If it is S-ON, you need to re-root your device. if it is S-ON, you *should* be good to go. I suggest you start over and follow the below instructions to the letter.
I would redo EVERYTHING from scratch. EVERYTHING meaning the following:
1. Copy the contents of your SD card and place them on your PC/Mac or independent external hard drive.
2. (DISREGARD) Format and re-partition your SD card (Disregard)
3. Place only a newly downloaded rom zip that you plan to flash, amon RA recovery (zip or img), Radio, Wimax, PRI & NV updates on the root of your SD card. The files can be downloaded from the links below:
Odexed Stock Rom -- http://goo.gl/uFdtB
amon RA -- http://goo.gl/cgh5e
Radio Update -- http://goo.gl/PmfKu
PRI Update -- http://goo.gl/A3NE3
NV Update -- http://goo.gl/h8JYf
WiMax Update -- http://goo.gl/qFwCt
4. Shut down your EVO and then press & hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. When your EVO starts, you will be directed to the Hboot screen where amon RA zip file will be automatically detected and you will be prompted to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into recovery.
5. Go to the WIPE menu and wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card.
6. Go to the FLASH menu and flash rom but DO NOT REBOOT!
7. Flash the Radio update. You will see a screen with a device & green arrows. Be patient because you will appear to stall. BE PATIENT and DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY!!!!!!!!!!!After some time has passed, you will automatically be reboot into the recovery screen.
8. Flash the PRI. What I stated in #7 applies here, as well
9. Flash the NV. What I stated in #7 applies here, too.
10. Flash the WiMax. #7 applies here also.
11. Reboot. you WILL APPEAR TO HANG at the white HTC screen. Do not be alarmed. Be patient and DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY. After some time has passed, you will then see the rom's splash screen and appear to hang and afterwards, you will see your home screen.
12. After you've signed in with your Google credentials, go to menu-settings-System Updates and then select Update profile.
You should be good to go afterwards. Enjoy!...

Sorry for the absence. I had errands to run. Anyway, displaying S-OFF is a good thing. Now let's see if you can get into recovery. You mentioned Unrevoked, so I'm assuming Clockworkmod is your recovery. You also mentioned that you can't pull anything off the card. Can you get into recovery? If so, there should be a mount menu or MS-USB or something to that effect. Select it and your computer *should* recognize your SD Card. Give it a try.

No. Can you boot into either recovery or your homescreen? If so, you *should* be able to mount and format your SD card using your EVO 4G.

It is possible. I'm not a fan of ROM Manager. It is far too easy to do it manually from within recovery. Menu with the hat? I'm assuming that's Clockworkmod recovery. I highly recommend that you flash amon RA recovery. It'll only take mere seconds to flash and it will not interfere with your system. Try this...Turn off your device and take out the SD card briefly and then reinsert it. Boot up all the way to your homescreen. Afterwards, go to your file manager and see if you can see the contents of your card. If so, that is a good thing.

ive tried that 3 times and i got nothing...
I really recommend that you start over from scratch.
1. Flash amon RA recovery v2.3
2. After the recovery has been flashed, reboot into recovery, go to the WIPE menu and wipe EVERYTHING including the SD card.
3. Attach the device to your computer via USB, then from within recovery, go to the MS-USB menu and select it. A drive should appear on your computer's desktop or explorer window.
4. Copy the rom zip file you used to install the rom you were using to the SD card.
5. If you were using CyanogenMod, also copy the latest gapps zip to the SD card.
6. Unmount the SD card first from your computer and then from within recovery by clicking the power button on your device.
7. Go into the Flash menu and flash the rom. Do not reboot afterwards if you're going to also flash the gapps zip.
8. Aftervyoure done flashing your rom and gapps, if necessary, reboot your device.

It is possible thar your SD card is fried. Do you have a spare? Do you have a card reader or another device capable of reading the card? Anyway, if you deem the card to be ruined then purchase another one and then start over with a fresh install per the instructions from my recent reply.
Anyway, I've gotta go. I'll check back on you a little later.

Help a friend accidently wiped her sd card how do i get it mounted to computer thru usb to transfer an old nandroid for her or a new rom? and is there anything else I need to do?
Just plug the phone via USB to a computer. It should recognize it automatically. If not, reboot into recovery, select the MS-USB option and wait for the drive icon to appear on your computer. Afterwards, transfer any file you want. As for the nandroid you mentioned, please make sure it is a backup made from her device ONLY! If you're transferring a backup made from a different EVO, and your friend decides to restore it on her device, she will be asking for trouble.

Yes I knew only to use one of her old ones couldnt get the phone comp to reconise the phone so i used an alternate sdcard and my phone to dl and flash a new rom then backup and restore her old nandroid.
before writing any new files on the card, I suggest that you try Recuva, I managed to recover all the files on my card when it got wiped a while ago (though I still don't know how it happened!).
I made a Nand back up when I first rooted my Epic 4g Touch, and unfortunately that is the only Nand Back up I had saved.....I flashed the Blend ICS Rom and had a lot of problems with it so I decided to start fresh and restore that Nand back up.....My question is....would restoring that Nand back up erase everything I had in my USBSTORAGE folder?? I had a folder of pics in my usbstorage because when you save pictures there they do not come up in the picture gallery....but some time between that nand back up and flashing the ICS ROM that folder got emptied and I have no idea where those files went grrrrr
restoring nand never deleted or effected anything stored on external USB for me. hopefully you didn't format SD. if not, try connecting to a computer and browsing your device that way.
If you saved the pics to the internal sd, you should be fine. I nandroid restore from ics to gb and back many times and the contents in my internal sd stays untouched.

I did connect it to my laptop and heres the problem lol before that nandroid restore and before going to ICS.....when I plugged into my laptop 3 storages would come up 1) phone 2)usb storage and 3) sd card and I was able to browse them all, but now plugged in to my laptop, only thing that comes up is 1)phone 2) card .....and its confusing cuz if I go to settings and storage, all 3 are there but whe nI try to click on something in usbstorage from there my setting foreclose...... its making it seem like it never existed, or Im going nuts lol I just dont know
Maybe reinstall the drivers? Or mount through adb??
Whenever you connect your phone to PC as USB storage, be sure that you go Settings > Wireless and network > More... > USB utilities in ICS ROM.
With USB cable unplugged, click on 'connect storage to PC' and connect your USB cable to phone.
One more thing that you need to know is, be sure that you use the original usb cable. Sometimes, different usb cable something like LG USB for Samsung Phone, it does not work on data communication. It looks like it works at first time but when you do something, it lose the connection and reset.
Backing up everything (important data) using this method is the best way ensuring your data is 'there'. For me, I frequently back up my nandroid backups into my pc's harddisk. Also, this is the fastest way to copy or move data if the data size is really back.
To play it safe, you should odin back to gingerbread first, then nand restore.

I nand back to blazer just to video record. It only takes less than 5 minutes. Then band back. I've done this at least 20 times with no issue.

If want to access your external without flashing you could use the card adapter that came with the phone and put it in the computer if you have a card reader.

+1 there have been some issues reported about flashing from ICS to GB. After you get your files transferred I'd do the Odin restore and then auto root with sfhub's tool. Then restore your apps and data with Titanium or MyBackup.
Good luck!

How do you transfer NAND backups stored on the internal memory to the external SD card?
Sprint GS3 running AOKP. Came from CM10 stable. AOKP is too buggy.
Copy the whole clockwork mod folder over.

Right but which Clockworkmod folder? What's the directory for internal memory?
I'm using the Sprint Galaxy S3, and I have ES File Explorer and GridSize Free. Whenever I run GridSize it says the largest folders/files I have are "blobs" too. Am I copying these over too?

Hoping you know you're asking in the E4GT forum so I'd really hate someone to give you an answer that'll screw ya up.. (Although moving is the correct answer)
Since you're having issues, I'd go to your forum area to ask. Also, there's the handy toolkit for ya.
This is for the S3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746680
Specifically, that tool kit can do this - Perform a FULL NANDROID Backup of your system via adb and save in Custom Recovery format on your PC
Internal if your on twiz is either sdcard or sdcard0 and microsd is ExtSDCard. AOSP should be labeled similar but I can't guarantee that.
I like to break stuff!
Hello folks, I'm coming over from the EVO 4g section with a new SG3 on Sprint. I've taken the JB update and did the "easy root" method using ODIN. The easy method came with some drivers of which I've installed and not had any problems with ONE exception. When I am in recovery using the CWM 6.0..1.2 touch version that came with this easy root, when I tap on "MOUNT SD CARD" it flashes, but nothing happens. There aren't any other storage devices (aside from the already loaded ones) in windows but the disconnect devices in the task bar (WIN 7) shows my SPH phone.
I've been historically good with this kind of thing but coming from a die hard AMON-RA user the CWM format is pretty fresh for me. Anyhow I don't know if I should be using diff. drivers than those supplied with the easy root method. While in CWM Recovery I plug the phone in and then go to the device manager and everything is recognized to the extent that under "Android Phone" it shows "Android ADB Interface".
Not sure what else to do so I went into CWM and tried to format my SD card...but there's 2. There's SD CARD and SD_EXTERNAL Which is which? Anyhow, I'm at a loss can anyone help me out?
EXT sd is YOUR sd card, sd card is the internal sd card, which you should never want to format. Also, CWM tends to hav hiccups like that which can generally be fixed with a reboot of recovery, though I personally recommend twrp as a recovery. And I remember you from the evo section.
Hey there Roxxorz I remember ya too! Thanks for the response. May have pulled a complete noob move there, but in an effort to get all my stuff configured and backed up...Titanium Backup's default folder is on the on-board SD card as you mentioned...which sucks cause I formatted that puppy. LOL Glad to see a friendly face over here, and again, thanks!

No problem pro; as for titanium : press menu > preferences > backup location > scan > whole device > sd card > use current folder > back out > go back to preferences > then hit the top button, and that should save that setting for future times. Otherwise you'll have to set it each time you flash a rom. and twrp = TEH WINZZ.
AAAANNNND PALLENDROMIC THANKSKNKAHT!
You know, I DO have one last question, now that you mention it. Do you find that Titanium backup requests SU permission for EVERY file you back up or restore? I never experienced that on the ol EVO, but I see it here all the time. Makes for some lengthy back ups and restores.

Well, tb asks permission to restore [ you manually saying 'yes install'] on every app in the free version. On the pro version [paid] it will batch load, meaning you only do it once. If you get multiple su requests, personally I set my permission to default allow; if I have a root app I KNOW what it is and want it running; so check your [super] su settings as well.
