CW Recovery "Unable to open ums lunfile" - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've used the oneclick root/recovery script in the development forum and I am now using Clockwork Recovery 3.0.0.6. I am unable to mount the SDcard from recovery; I also have this problem with 3.0.0.5. I get the error "Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)" and googling this issue (and searching this forum) hasn't given me any help at all. Is anyone able to mount the SDcard in recovery at all?
I also would like to know why I cannot update clockwork recovery through Rom Manager. Koush has version 3.0.1.4 listed on his site here: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html. The 3.0.0.6/5 versions, in one-click root, flash zImage (recovery kernel?) but the files from Rom Manager do not have this. Why is this?

I noticed I cannot mount sd card in recovery also. I receive the same message as you did

Rom manager doesn't work on our epics. If you can't mount your SD card then you.migration need to format it. Make sure you back it up.

I just formatted the sdcard from recovery and I still have the same issue. Is there a better/different way to format it?

I'm having this problem today for the first time (i've mounted before with this version of CWM). Anybody ever find a fix?

Unable to open ums lunfile error huawei u8150
im having the same problem cant seem to load a rom on it keeps on aborting ive had hell to put on cm recovery on to this phone had to push it through my laptop just to get it to work but now im stuck its the latest recovery 5.0.2.6 how to i get this sorted as i cant load a rom to my phone its taken me 4 days to just get the recovery on the phone and now its getting this is there a update.zip tht i can dwnload to solve this problem or is there a way to get around it

Personally if I were having this much problem with the phone, I would odin back to EC05 and start from scratch.
This will get you back to COMPLETE stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Whenever I've had a major problem, I would do this then start from scratch to get back to a rooted state.
Make sure that if you have an MTD partition layout you use the victory.pit.
Also, as an FYI Rom Manager DOES support the Epic 4G, when you use Rom Manager make sure to choose Epic 4G, not the one with MTD.
Its a lot of work, but this way you know that you are completely back at the beginning and a chance to make no mistakes when flashing.
(Has anyone tried reflashing from Rom manager? If its possible...)

possibly bricked desire?

ok, i think i bricked my desire...
i just got it, used to be a captivate user. i had just flashed this rom earlier and was liking it, except for one lil mms problem. i decide to try another rom (RCSTouch) so i put that rom on my sdcard and booted to clockwork. i wiped data and cache and stuff. i then selected to install the rom and i get this error "cant open file (bad) Installed aborted."
maybe the file was corrupted? well i tried rebooting my phone lotsa times and it just fires up vibrates once and stays stuck at the HTC screen. I have to pop the battery to turn it off.
what can i do here?
Boot in to recovery, go to mounts, mount the sd as mass storage, copy a non corupted rom to the sd, dismount and flash your new rom.

Always nandroid before making any major changes in recovery, that way if anything goes wrong, you can just restore your previous rom. It seems like you did not do this, and thus your phone is not booting up because you wiped it. That being said, follow Ghost's advice as it does seem like a bad file.

[Q] stuck in bootloader/recovery

help, stuck in bootloader/recovery
« on: Today at 01:48:03 AM » Quote Modify Remove
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
stock 2.2 3.29 rooted w/unrevolked.
any help is appreciated.
So I was looking into roms and I downloaded ROM manager 3.0.1.1. Thats when my trouble started. I did a back up with the rom manager and it wiped my old nandroid back ups and I was stuck in bootloader/recovery and couldn't restore my back up. I do an nandroid back up about once a month and they were all gone. I did back up my sd card in december and I had an old back up on it and I flashed it and it worked.
Tonight I tired to flash an older version of clockwork (like I had before) and I'm stuck at the bootloader/recovery again. I tried to restore an old nandroid and nothing seems to work.
I'm open to suggestions.
Should I try to flash a new rom and start over ?
any way to get my old customized rom back ? (I have the clockwork back ups)
thanks
are you able to boot a rom at all?
I haven't tried a different rom, but I cannot boot my current or older.
It can't load PM36IMG.zip, I tried loading one onto my card but it just aborts the installation. Is there a more current or older one one I need ?
that might be a problem. you sayed you were trying to put a PM36IMG.ZIP on but you need a PC36IMG.ZIP i believe if your on an evo. use amon-ra and and flash a new rom and see if it works. copy and paste this link into your url and it will start a download for amon-ra recovery. hope this works
http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=PC36IMG.zip
also don't try to flash a clockwork nandroid backup with amon-ra or vise versa. it will mess up your phone from what ive heard
I wonder if it does not like your sd. I am thinking try a different sd or see if you can format yours.
I also do not like ROM managers. They always seem to want an upgrade and then when you do the upgrade your old backups may or may not be compatible any more. To get your old file back you would probably have to run an unerase or some type of debug program on the sd card. erased files are not really erased they just have an F5 in front of them to tell the computer that the space is availible. If you have a backup on your compter or old SD I think you should be able to that.
I did check for errors on my SD card, nothing bad there.
I put a PC36IMG.zip on my SD and when I try to install the zip from my sd it says operation aborted.
I think my entire problem is the fact that I have clockworkMod recovery v3.0.0.5. I've read (after) that anything after 2.6 is not going to play nice with my evo.
I tried downloading a stock rooted rom and I cannot flash it. Anytime I boot the phone it stays on the HTC EVO white screen, I can hold down the - and power and I can go into HBOOT/fastboot/bootloader/recovery, then it cannot find the PC36DIAG.zip, and PC36ING, and a few others.
I really appreciate the help, keep it coming
edit: I'll try pulling everything off my card and formatting it...
card is fine.
I loaded a older clockwork recovery then tried to flash a different rom...
it started opening, installing, formatting, deleting, copying, then...
E: can't symlink/system/xbin/su
E:failure at line 76:
synlink/system/bin/su SYSTEM:xbin/su
installation aborted.
and when I restore a previous nand backup it appears to work then when I reboot the screen looks scrambled and freezes.
I'm tired
I'm starting to think a hard reset and starting over might be my only way out.
Your system can not root since it can not find /system/xbin/su su is not in bin
ln -T /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su would probably be the approach if you were running. Not sure if you could edit line 76 to change bin to xbin, copy a proper symbolic link or?
I looked in bin and there were many links to the tool box that appeared to be associated with error logging. With this in mind it seems to me that this link is part of the recovery/installation process.
I would try to correct the permissions.
I was able to do a hard reset and my phone booted up rooted still..so I restored my apps from Titanium Back up.
Right now I can shut my phone off, restart it, no problem. If I go into recovery, problem.
I need to get rid of clockwork asap, I've read about Amon_ra's recovery but I don't think I have enough knowledge yet on how to install. I've tried installing from a zip but I'm just not doing it right. I can go into folders on my phone (root explorer), should I just delete clockwork anywhere I find it ? I just don't want to go blindly deleting files, that would be dumb.
I need recovery back...this is scary
suggestions ?
I have been into Android modding since My G1 from day ONE, I bricked a friends G1 and had to swap internal stuff and fixed it so I have never had a problem I could not solve till now, Like the guy above I cannot boot into my ROM. I have running Myn's Roms since his(their) first release with ZERO problems until RLS5. I started getting random reboots so like any other time when this happened with anyone elses ROM I did the Recovery, Wipe Dalvic Cache, Wipe Cache reboot and that was that, However today my Evo would not stop rebooting every 5-10 minutes so I wiped from scratch even my sd card was wiped, then reflashed Myn's RLS5 got it to boot once and after finishing SETUP it was on for like 2 maybe 3 minutes and again REBOOT!!! this time staying on the white screen, So I pulled the battery and went to recovery and wiped dalvic and cache rebooted and from then on It does not get past the white screen, I can still get into Fastboot and Recovery but it DOES NOT boot into the ROM, I am now Flashing MYN'S Z 2.2 and praying it boots. Do you guys think VIRUSES are now affecting OUR EVO's????
I just need to get rid of clockwork and I'm still stuck on that...
help ...
Attached is amon_ra 2.3 boot into the bootloader and apply update, reboot, boot into recovery and clockwork will be gone.

ok, I just want to be clear.
First, I'm sorry if I'm noobish
next, I'm gonna put that PC36IMG on my SD card (just anywhere on the card) then go into the bootloader, choose apply update, then boot into recovery, then done, correct ?
side note, I've read around that it should be put on the root of the card, I don't have a root folder on the card, but there is one in the internal system file (found it in root explorer).
just want to clarify before I loose everything again.
You are correct, and the "root" of the sdcard means to just be on the sdcard, not inside any folders. Also don't extract the zip file.
solved.
you sir, are my hero.
you have solved my problem, I'm speechless and so freakin excited right now.
I sincerely thank you and owe you.

Would this work for the Incredible as well? I have the same issue (tried to flash clockwork recover but can't get into it on the phone). Also cannot get into the ROM, so stuck at the boot screen and nearly every command brings me back to it...
Thanks

[Q] Unable to push files to sdcard after bootloop

I have been busy today with a nasty problem, i hope you anyone can help me out.
I was running JDROID's custom rom with great satisfaction, had it backupped. The trouble started when i downloaded an other rom and forgot to place the rom (.zip) on my sdcard before i flashed the boot.img via flashboot.
By that time i didnt knew how to use ADB commands, so i decided that i would forget about the new rom and i would restore my working backup. (im using CWM)
After restoring that backup a bootloop occured, so tried lots of things like wiping the cache. Also ive tried to restore the backup after lots of full wipes ect. Even installing JDROID's latest rom witch i had on my sdcard dindt help. Still had a bootloop.
I managed to use ADB when my phone was switched off, and i pushed a rom.zip to sdcard. But CWM cant seem to find it.
My question is this: in CWM there is an option to "mount USB storage". When i use it i get the message "unable to open ums lunfile". I have tried formatting the sdcard, whereby i deleted my backups still didnt work.
What whould you guys try next?
relock the bootloader and run an ruu appropriate to your cid

[Q] HALP! Need flashing assistance!

I'm currently trying to install the leaked flash of JB as per this article here:
Well apparently I can't post links because I'm new, but essentially I was told just to download the zip onto my SD, start it up in recovery mode, and install the update.
I'm at the point where I boot up into recovery mode, but it doesn't give me the option to update the phone from INTERNAL storage, just EXTERNAL storage.
I keep getting the error: E:failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory)
HELP?!?!
Make sure you have a updated version of cwm. You can try rom manager from the market (free) flash cwm for the S3 American. I believe if you flash touch you will run into the same problem.
If rom manager says your phone isn't supported, there is a sticky somewhere with all the latest cwm for our s3's

trouble with PhilZ touch recovery for d2spr

Yesterday I wanted to completely replace TWRP 2.6.3.1 with the latest PhilZ advanced touch recovery for my Sprint Galaxy S3 (d2spr) . I booted to TWRP, flashed the latest Philz touch 6.15.4-d2spr.zip (posted on Goo.im server), didn't bother wiping dalvik+cache, and rebooted. After booting into recovery, Philz is showing up (yay!), however I see this error message:
E: could not mount /data to setup /data/media path!
E: Cannot mount path for settings file /data/philz-touch/philz-touch_6.ini
So...I'm having a few issues. First was that for some reason I was totally unable to write to my SD card. Not sure why. Therefore I reformatted the SDXC memory card to be totally blank. I was then able to successfully create the "storage/sdcard1/clockworkmod/aromafm" in which I placed the aromafm.zip. Aroma File Manager and Terminal now open correctly (phew!).
However, reading author @Phil3759 comments http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50119209&highlight=ini#post50119209
, I should have instead created a path in internal storage using "/data/media/clockworkmod/aromafm/aromafm.zip"
Tried creating that path but the Recovery isn't seeing it.
E: could not mount /data to setup /data/media path!
I'm also did a wipe/reset of cache, and Android-Secure (internal storage?). Upon reboot the phone is now understandably stuck at the KT747 kernel boot splash screen (kernel i was running with CarbonRom previously).
Also...Phil3759 mentions the *.ini file should be located in "/data/philz_touch", however that subfolder wasn't created when I flashed this recovery zip...
My goal is to update my Galaxy S3 profile & PRL with Sprint using a TouchWiz rom (would like to flash Wicked Sensations v0.5). After the OTA update is complete...I'll flash over to Carbon KitKat nightly with either DKP or Lean kernels.
I'm not able to post my question there since it's a Dev thread, so could you help me? What do I need to do for the abovementioned Errors to go away, so I can install a ROM? Right now I'm stuck! Am I missing something

i had problems too when I 1st attempted to update philz...so I did this, links are in my guide in my signature (1st guide), redownloaded my root bundle, flashed philz again using Odin this time, philz worked 100%, then I updated my philz again with that same zip file you used actually and this time after it flashes, I went from cwm 6.0.4.5 to cwm 6.0.4.7...you then have to, while in philz recovery, go to "power options" and choose to "reboot recovery" so it refreshes...then you should be fine, I was after doing all that. other than that, I don't know what you're really trying to do, you said "ota update" so I'm guessing you're phone is updating to 4.3???? clarify that part please lol
other than that, you just need a working philz twp to flash roms, hope this helped
edit...as far as updating your profile/prl, what I do is just use my nandroid backup of my stock rooted 4.3, go update my profile and prl there, then simply flash back to my custom rom cm11 nandroid backup.
