[Q] Help Accidently wiped sdcard - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help a friend accidently wiped her sd card how do i get it mounted to computer thru usb to transfer an old nandroid for her or a new rom? and is there anything else I need to do?

Just plug the phone via USB to a computer. It should recognize it automatically. If not, reboot into recovery, select the MS-USB option and wait for the drive icon to appear on your computer. Afterwards, transfer any file you want. As for the nandroid you mentioned, please make sure it is a backup made from her device ONLY! If you're transferring a backup made from a different EVO, and your friend decides to restore it on her device, she will be asking for trouble.

Yes I knew only to use one of her old ones couldnt get the phone comp to reconise the phone so i used an alternate sdcard and my phone to dl and flash a new rom then backup and restore her old nandroid.

before writing any new files on the card, I suggest that you try Recuva, I managed to recover all the files on my card when it got wiped a while ago (though I still don't know how it happened!).

I'm confused a little by your post. Why not just restore from your nandroid backup? Or flash a different rom?
Are you saying that Titanium Backup failed to restore your apps? Cyanogenmod is not Sense, which came with your phone. TB cannot restore apps from Sense.
If you want Sense, use a Sense ROM like Myn's... or Sprint Lovers if you like stock.

Make sure you are rooted with S-OFF displayed in the bootloader. To do this, turn off your EVO. Now press the down volume button while also pressing the power button until your device starts. You will enter the bootloader screen. You should see either S-ON or S-OFF at the top. If it is S-ON, you need to re-root your device. if it is S-ON, you *should* be good to go. I suggest you start over and follow the below instructions to the letter.
I would redo EVERYTHING from scratch. EVERYTHING meaning the following:
1. Copy the contents of your SD card and place them on your PC/Mac or independent external hard drive.
2. (DISREGARD) Format and re-partition your SD card (Disregard)
3. Place only a newly downloaded rom zip that you plan to flash, amon RA recovery (zip or img), Radio, Wimax, PRI & NV updates on the root of your SD card. The files can be downloaded from the links below:
Odexed Stock Rom -- http://goo.gl/uFdtB
amon RA -- http://goo.gl/cgh5e
Radio Update -- http://goo.gl/PmfKu
PRI Update -- http://goo.gl/A3NE3
NV Update -- http://goo.gl/h8JYf
WiMax Update -- http://goo.gl/qFwCt
4. Shut down your EVO and then press & hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. When your EVO starts, you will be directed to the Hboot screen where amon RA zip file will be automatically detected and you will be prompted to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into recovery.
5. Go to the WIPE menu and wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card.
6. Go to the FLASH menu and flash rom but DO NOT REBOOT!
7. Flash the Radio update. You will see a screen with a device & green arrows. Be patient because you will appear to stall. BE PATIENT and DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY!!!!!!!!!!!After some time has passed, you will automatically be reboot into the recovery screen.
8. Flash the PRI. What I stated in #7 applies here, as well
9. Flash the NV. What I stated in #7 applies here, too.
10. Flash the WiMax. #7 applies here also.
11. Reboot. you WILL APPEAR TO HANG at the white HTC screen. Do not be alarmed. Be patient and DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY. After some time has passed, you will then see the rom's splash screen and appear to hang and afterwards, you will see your home screen.
12. After you've signed in with your Google credentials, go to menu-settings-System Updates and then select Update profile.
You should be good to go afterwards. Enjoy!...

Sorry for the absence. I had errands to run. Anyway, displaying S-OFF is a good thing. Now let's see if you can get into recovery. You mentioned Unrevoked, so I'm assuming Clockworkmod is your recovery. You also mentioned that you can't pull anything off the card. Can you get into recovery? If so, there should be a mount menu or MS-USB or something to that effect. Select it and your computer *should* recognize your SD Card. Give it a try.

No. Can you boot into either recovery or your homescreen? If so, you *should* be able to mount and format your SD card using your EVO 4G.

It is possible. I'm not a fan of ROM Manager. It is far too easy to do it manually from within recovery. Menu with the hat? I'm assuming that's Clockworkmod recovery. I highly recommend that you flash amon RA recovery. It'll only take mere seconds to flash and it will not interfere with your system. Try this...Turn off your device and take out the SD card briefly and then reinsert it. Boot up all the way to your homescreen. Afterwards, go to your file manager and see if you can see the contents of your card. If so, that is a good thing.

ive tried that 3 times and i got nothing...
I really recommend that you start over from scratch.
1. Flash amon RA recovery v2.3
2. After the recovery has been flashed, reboot into recovery, go to the WIPE menu and wipe EVERYTHING including the SD card.
3. Attach the device to your computer via USB, then from within recovery, go to the MS-USB menu and select it. A drive should appear on your computer's desktop or explorer window.
4. Copy the rom zip file you used to install the rom you were using to the SD card.
5. If you were using CyanogenMod, also copy the latest gapps zip to the SD card.
6. Unmount the SD card first from your computer and then from within recovery by clicking the power button on your device.
7. Go into the Flash menu and flash the rom. Do not reboot afterwards if you're going to also flash the gapps zip.
8. Aftervyoure done flashing your rom and gapps, if necessary, reboot your device.

It is possible thar your SD card is fried. Do you have a spare? Do you have a card reader or another device capable of reading the card? Anyway, if you deem the card to be ruined then purchase another one and then start over with a fresh install per the instructions from my recent reply.
Anyway, I've gotta go. I'll check back on you a little later.

[Q] Rom Manager Backup

I flashed clockworkmod recovery. I then proceeded to backup my rom. I went to my computer to transfer the backup to a safe place, but it wasn't there. I tried again, went back to the folder on my sd card, but the only thing there is in the clockworkmod folder is a "Salted.hash" file. Nothing else. Yes, I'm rooted.

If you have an external sdcard it will be there, not the internal.
That folder is on my external SD card, but it doesn't have anything else in it.
I have a clockworkmod folder on my external SD card but it's empty as well. My backups are saved to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. Did you check there?
Quick question: when doing a backup with rom manager should you place device in airplane mode? Just wondering what, if anything happens if a call, text, email crimes in while doing a backup, or does cwm disable connections when backing up, or does it not matter either way? Thanks!

Doesn't matter, the actual OS isn't booted when in cwm

When you are in recovery mode you will not receive calls, etc. as you haven't fully booted Android. Once the backup is complete reboot as normal to resume using the phone itself.
Problem solved. For some reason, clockworkmod stuck the backup in the internal SD. I'm now running Cyanogen 7.

Question about Nand Backup.....

I made a Nand back up when I first rooted my Epic 4g Touch, and unfortunately that is the only Nand Back up I had saved.....I flashed the Blend ICS Rom and had a lot of problems with it so I decided to start fresh and restore that Nand back up.....My question is....would restoring that Nand back up erase everything I had in my USBSTORAGE folder?? I had a folder of pics in my usbstorage because when you save pictures there they do not come up in the picture gallery....but some time between that nand back up and flashing the ICS ROM that folder got emptied and I have no idea where those files went grrrrr
restoring nand never deleted or effected anything stored on external USB for me. hopefully you didn't format SD. if not, try connecting to a computer and browsing your device that way.
If you saved the pics to the internal sd, you should be fine. I nandroid restore from ics to gb and back many times and the contents in my internal sd stays untouched.

I did connect it to my laptop and heres the problem lol before that nandroid restore and before going to ICS.....when I plugged into my laptop 3 storages would come up 1) phone 2)usb storage and 3) sd card and I was able to browse them all, but now plugged in to my laptop, only thing that comes up is 1)phone 2) card .....and its confusing cuz if I go to settings and storage, all 3 are there but whe nI try to click on something in usbstorage from there my setting foreclose...... its making it seem like it never existed, or Im going nuts lol I just dont know
Maybe reinstall the drivers? Or mount through adb??
Whenever you connect your phone to PC as USB storage, be sure that you go Settings > Wireless and network > More... > USB utilities in ICS ROM.
With USB cable unplugged, click on 'connect storage to PC' and connect your USB cable to phone.
One more thing that you need to know is, be sure that you use the original usb cable. Sometimes, different usb cable something like LG USB for Samsung Phone, it does not work on data communication. It looks like it works at first time but when you do something, it lose the connection and reset.
Backing up everything (important data) using this method is the best way ensuring your data is 'there'. For me, I frequently back up my nandroid backups into my pc's harddisk. Also, this is the fastest way to copy or move data if the data size is really back.
To play it safe, you should odin back to gingerbread first, then nand restore.

I nand back to blazer just to video record. It only takes less than 5 minutes. Then band back. I've done this at least 20 times with no issue.

If want to access your external without flashing you could use the card adapter that came with the phone and put it in the computer if you have a card reader.

+1 there have been some issues reported about flashing from ICS to GB. After you get your files transferred I'd do the Odin restore and then auto root with sfhub's tool. Then restore your apps and data with Titanium or MyBackup.
Good luck!

How do you transfer NAND backups stored on the internal memory to the external SD card?
Sprint GS3 running AOKP. Came from CM10 stable. AOKP is too buggy.
Copy the whole clockwork mod folder over.

Right but which Clockworkmod folder? What's the directory for internal memory?
I'm using the Sprint Galaxy S3, and I have ES File Explorer and GridSize Free. Whenever I run GridSize it says the largest folders/files I have are "blobs" too. Am I copying these over too?

Hoping you know you're asking in the E4GT forum so I'd really hate someone to give you an answer that'll screw ya up.. (Although moving is the correct answer)
Since you're having issues, I'd go to your forum area to ask. Also, there's the handy toolkit for ya.
This is for the S3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746680
Specifically, that tool kit can do this - Perform a FULL NANDROID Backup of your system via adb and save in Custom Recovery format on your PC
Internal if your on twiz is either sdcard or sdcard0 and microsd is ExtSDCard. AOSP should be labeled similar but I can't guarantee that.
I like to break stuff!

Are pictures saved

So my S2 is stuck in an infinite reboot loop. I was wondering if there's any possible way for me to retrieve my photos? I saved Gallery in Titanium backup.
My question is: when I log into my account with a different phone and I restore the gallery app with Titanium backup, will my photos be restored too?
First...titanium backup backs up and saves everything on either your sd card or internal storage. So if you sign into a different phone, you wont be able to restore anything you backed up.
Second...pictures are saved in your internal storage. They are files, not data or apps that can be restored.
Now since you're using titanium backup im assuming you are rooted and have a recovery installed. You can try booting into recovery..connect usb cable from phone to computer and mount storage to transfer them onto your computer for safe keeping.
Or if you want to have a fully functional phone again, take a look at this thread.
EDIT: You can use the new jellybean 4.1.2 update instead of the ics version. Just go to the thread and download the odin version.

Reverting back to stock does not delete your internal storage I believe. I can't turn on my phone at ALL so I can't use adb or anything.

That's what I meant by turn on my phone. It's just non stop vibrations. I somehow got lucky and managed to get into recovery mode and restore a previous backup. And yes, I read those before you even posted it to me. People have been solving it by different methods but it's all luck. It's a manufacturer's problem.

I unlocked bootloader with windroid tool. Then I flashes twrp. Then this being my first time messing with an android in years I went and just grabbed the first rom I thought I could use, do to the fact that I had done no backup no nandroid anything so I flashed a rom and after it did it every time I tries to flash different rom because it said the rom I did first failed. So everytime I tries to do anything else with windroid it says there is a log file in the logs folder. Send this to windycity's forum so it can be tAken care of. But I couldn't find this file or where to submit the file so I thought if I just reset the phone back to factory I could restart. And after resetting it multiple times it still said, there is a log file in the logs folder send this to Windy City. So since I do still have the twrp tool that I can use I went in there and found that it has to rm -f delete everything Linux code so I did that. And since I've done that all I can do is get to bootloader and twrp. But the so is deleted. So basically nothing works. I can't figure out how to get the sd to mount or it won't mount for whAtever reason. And since the phone is wiped it won't enable USB debugging to connect to computer. I can get it to start to enable and connect for a second but not long enough for it to do anything. And I believe it's a htc evo 4g sprint. So that's the situation. The next thing I was gunn try was to go buy a mini sd card reader so I can mount it to computer and then put the rom in there. This **** is so confusing and ridiculous. I mean I can jailbreak an apple device no problem. But holy mother of God androids are the most insanely retarded phones to root. Drivers, adb, sdk...... Anyways if u can help let me know because there's a million roms and kernels out there and I don't know what build to use and how to set it up and the whole kernel process sounds confusing.
Do this. Go to the link below. Look at the second post. Go to the "Current Release" section and download either the stock rooted odex or deodex ROM, doesn't matter. Put the ROM zip on your external SD card. You can do this with the mount option in TWRP (select the mount option then select your external SD card from the menu. You should then be able to transfer the ROM zip from your computer directly to your phone), or just use a card reader to transfer the file from your computer to your SD card, then put the card back into your phone. Boot into TWRP and go to the wipe menu. Do a wipe of system, data, Dalvik & cache. Once you've done this, go to the install option, then locate the ROM zip you placed on your SD card. Flash the ROM. Once the install completes, reboot the phone. The first boot will take a few minutes so be patient. Afterwards the phone should boot to the OS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671395
Also, USB debugging is only useful when the phone is actually booted to the OS. It doesn't matter that it isn't enabled for your particular dilemma. If all else fails, shoot me a PM and I may have something else that can get you up and running.
