[Q]What to do next? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all sorry for the stupid question but I have a r800at and its unlocked, rooted, and I've got dooms kernel loaded no problem (this phone OCs to 1.9 stable it's nuts lol). When I try to flash zeros ROM but every time I flash it in recovery when it reboots I have no launcher to cell signal and the buttons don't work. I've tried 4 times with no luck. I get the idea that I can boot directly from dooms kernel into recovery but I'm not sure how, I still plug it in to the computer. Anyone have done insight in what the deal is? Thanks for any info anyone has.

It might be that zerojay's rom is not compatable with your device. If i remember correctly he has a R800i and there might be some slight differences between *i* and *at* models in the framework that makes it not work on *at* play's?
Regards Dousan...
You might want to ask in zerojay's thread if you haven't already

Ok cool I was just looking at that actually. When you did flash tool did you get to pick the play as the device because all I get is x10 or the mini. Also another stupid question, how do you get into flash mode on the play? Is it still back button and plug it in? Thanks!

Yeah turn off phone and then back button and usb.
If you're using flashtool 0.2.9.1 (beta) there should only be one flashtool.exe to choose (x10FlashTool.exe). If you plug it in while on you'll get multiple choises of phones to pick from while in flashtool window.
If you need more info on how to use flashtool here's a link to a small tut i wrote:

All you need is the img, which is already rooted, the ftf is for those with a locked boot loader.

Might be an idea if you do have issues to flash the ftf and wipe user data, but I just flashed the image and haven't had any issues.
Had to do both in the end as WiFi didn't work, all good now though

ICS Kernel FTF

Is it possible to make one? I was searching and came across an ftf creator but it's for Windows only.
If it's possible is there a way to make one on Ubuntu?

why u want a .ftf kernel file?
flashtool can flash .bin too,
just go to flashmode, fastboot, enter fastboot via adb and then lash kernel.(right side).
and adb is working under ubuntu, also u can turn ur device of and press the search button while u connect it
I can't fastboot anymore.

I was on Windows when it broke. I changed to Ubuntu in case it was software or driver related. It turns out it's hardware.
I have two PCIs. One works but doesn't fastboot; the other worked completely, til it broke completely. Now I'm left with the one that won't fastboot, so I can only flash in flashmode.

lol
Creating an FTF for ICS for the play would be impossible as our phone would error out when trying to flash an unsigned sin image, because there isn't officially ICS for our phone, so no FTF.
It was possible for the X10 because developers for that device hacked it so that it would accept unsigned images to be flashed to it.
Now I'm no security expert (although its something I am interested in) but the 2011 line have far better protection than the x10, and so we can only flash signed sin images -> ones from seus or something.
My bootloader is unlocked, does that make a difference?
I tried uploading a screenshot of my 22p but it wouldn't work

[Q] Clockwork or based recovery for Arc S

I have a LT18i, Android 4.0.4 with build .431 and it is rooted and has a locked bootloader. I have looked everywhere for a way to install clockworkmod recovery on it without flashing a custom rom or kernel, but it doesn't seem possible. Next, I tried a clockwork based recovery but only found DoomLord's recovery. But it had LT26i or Xperia S listed as the device so I'm not sure if it would work on mine. Will it? If not, is there any other clockwork based recovery I could install?
try the CWM Auto Installer on Google Play
Download pvyParts' Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from the market. That should give you access to CWM.
Do keep in mind that it's been reported that the phone doesn't charge if you switch it off; it tends to bootloop. It works fine if the phone is on though. Pvy will be updating the app shortly.
This works well if you want to take Nandroid backups and (or) flash update.zips.
And if you do plan on flashing custom kernels, you would need to unlock your bootloader. For custom ROMs, you're limited to Stock based ROMs till you do decide to unlock your bootloader.
Cheers!

[Q] LT28at Help

I know I sound like a noob, but truthfully I am a noob when it comes to Sony Xperia devices, the last Sony device I mod'd was a PSP-3000 series. I guess it has been a while, in the mean time I have had an HTC Inspire 4g (Desire HD/Ace) which when it came to development was AMAZING, and then I had an SGH-i777 (the AT&T non LTE variant of the SGS2) I now have an LT28at. I have rooted it and installed CWM. When attempting to flash a rom I get an error 7 message, not my first time getting these but I can't work out a way around it on this phone. I hope my efforts weren't a waste, but if they still were please tell me.

Look at the ion development forum. In the Paranoid Android thread, there is a fix on first page.

I cannot get my device into fastboot is the issue now, otherwise I would do that fix.
Bricked it
I attempted to install it by wiping system and then installing the rom, I got the same issue and made the mistake of shutting it off rather than restoring it to my backup. Is there anything I can do? I can't get it into recovery and I don't know why, and I get this error message when trying to flash it with flashtool back to stock. ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CODE="0019";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed";

For flashing back to stock, try this "final Verification" in flashtool which u can choose together with the wipes.

Downloading right now, thanks. I really really hope this works, because if not I'm stuck with my old Inspire. I mean, it isn't a bad phone but LTE is hard to go back from when you usually use 5-8 gigs a month... My data bill alone is usually like $85... It sucks...

No problem... Ya you gotta be carefull because most of the roms in the dev section require an unlocked bootloader, and there is currentlly no way to unlock the ATT varient of the ion (lt28at). There are some like the Miui port that is locked bootloader friendly though. Make sure you read the roms description and follow instructions EXACTLY maybe read some posts in the thread as well to make sure it is okay to flash on locked bootloader. The cool thing is at least you can flash official ftfs of the other varients when they become available when spectre posts em on that wiki page. (us ATT users will get jellybean waaaaay before ATT gets around to it haha)

[Q] Want to root and install R800a, very lost.

Hi guys, as the title said, I want to root my new Xperia Play R800a, and I am very lost right now. Ultimately, my goal is to install Xperia NXT 2r1. I think that since I have the r800a version, I am not able unlock the bootloader, so I am ok with not having a custom kernel.
But the problem is, I'm totally lost right now. Could anyone show me a guide or something to what I'm supposed to do to start? That's all I'm asking.
What I HAVE done is downloaded everything they asked for me to download in the post, and have installed flashtools, but whenever I try flashing the firmware 4.0.2 enhanced, I am not able to do so. It is just stuck on a screen where it tells me to go to fastboot mode, but I go to fastboot mode, and for some reason it isn't recognized. (I know it's fastboot because the power button is glowing blue.) I think a driver might be installed incorrectly, but I'm not sure how to install it correctly after.
I'm sorry if my post isn't that helpful, I'll add any more information if you guys want me too.
Thanks in advance.

I flashed Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.58 Enhanced, the one that they told me to flash in the guide.

Alright found out the problem. Apparently there are two versions of flashtool. One version doesn't work while the other does. I honestly don't know what the difference is. But for other people who might be facing the same problem, if your flashtool has only three icons, Flash, Root, and check for SU permissions I think (it looks like a key), then you have the wrong version. Your flashtool should have 7 icons.
Doesn't Matter

Oh yes, I found that out a bit later. The problem was lying in the flashtools I was using. Once I got the right flashtools, I reflashed the previous firmware rooted it, installed the rom, and it all worked perfectly.
