Hey everyone, I'm at a crossroads in terms of what ROM I want to flash next. I've had Leedroid's Froyo ROM for well over 9 months and I've been very satisfied with it. Now that the final version has been released for a little while, I've been itching to try some Gingerbread roms, but I have no idea which to choose.
My main concern is stability and battery life. Does a Sense ROM really tax the battery life moreso than an Oxygen or CM7 type of rom? I do like some of the Sense feature (like the dialer). Do Sense 2.1/3.0 roms (ie Insertcoin) eat up even more battery life?
Another concern of mine is flashing a new hboot for S-OFF. Seems like many new roms require this. I'm guessing that the risks are fairly low of anything going horribly wrong, right?
So with all that in mind, I was thinking between these 4:
-Leedroid Gingerbread V3.0.X
-CM7
-Oxygen
-Insertcoin
Just looking for some general opinions and recommendations on any of these ROMs. Thanks!
Hi, ive flashed all 4 of those ROMs at one time or another so ill try to give a overview of what I think.
I stuck with CM7 for quite a while, and really liked it. if you want a ROM with fairly good battery life, and lots of customization options, then go wth that. Oxygen seems to me like it is a lot like CM7 but there a much less options to customize and change.
I didnt have leedroid for that long but after looking over the page again, it seems like a slightly cut down version of InsertCoin. InsertCoin has certain sense 3.0 features in it, where as leedroid doesnt (I think). I personally stick wth InsertCoin, as it has an easy A2SD system, and the WiFi range seems vastly better on it than any other ROM ive tried!
So, in conclusion
CM7 - Nice, stable, fast gingerbread with lots of customisation options.
Oxygen - Slightly cut down version, fast, with less customization.
LeeDroid - Fast, Stable, Clean, Sense/Gingerbread.
InsertCoin - Slightly more bulky, but really nice looking sense/gingerbread mix, with Sense 2.0/3.0/2.1 features
Just my opinion, hope it helps
If Sense and battery are the two main concerns, then try Leedroid GB. Obviously, Insertcoin and all these Sense 3 stuff are eating more battery than Sense 2.1. I used it for a month or two, it's not that bad.
If you can drop Sense, then of course Oxygen or CM7. Or, you can try Redux as well, it is very similar to Oxygen (see my signature).
But the best way is to find out yourself: flash IC, use it for a week and you will see.
Cheers!

Thanks for the very helpful reply! I was leaning on Insertcoin, just to see what all the fuss was about with Sense 2.1/3.0 was all about. Leedroid currently uses Sense 1.0 in his Gingerbread rom in case you were wondering.
I have zero plans this weekend, which means I have all the time in the world to try out some ROMs
I'm running CM7.. its a fast and stable ROM with good customization options and no s-off required plus I'm getting much better battery life than I was with my stock 2.2 froyo ROM

Wooooohoooo, finally got a thanks anyway, have fun flashing im running InsertCoin myself, loving the sexy Sense 3.0 stuffs anyway, enjoy, oh and pleasure
I just rooted the EVO with 2.3.3 now I'm trying to get opinions on the best and most stable roms available

Personal preference. I would say try out the ones you are interested in for about a week. Then go back to the one you liked the best. Or just use one till you find a glaring issue with then switch. I personally tried like 4-5 different roms they all seem better than the stock rom but I like CM 7 the best.
If you like AOSP (vanilla android), then Cyanogenmod 7 is pretty cool. It's one of the few AOSP ROMs with WiMAX working and HDMI mirroring.
If you like Sense, check out Synergy or Kinged Shooter. Both of those ROMs are pretty sweet. Synergy is a mix between Sense 2.1 and Sense 3.0, and shooter is a pure sense 3.0 ROM (Evo 3D port to be exact).
As already stated though, only you know which ROM is the best, just go out there and find ROMs you might like, back up your stock ROM, then start flashing!
Most stable? probably the stock rom
I'll join the bandwagon by suggesting CyanogenMod. It's a beautiful piece of work, it has a great set of features (you can move ANY app to the SD card! you can refuse apps' access to specific permissions! you get a free wifi hotspot!), it's amazingly stable, and it's FAST (faster than the stock Sense ROM).
Definitely go with MIUI. It is stable and takes up only 80 MB on your device memory.
I can't vouch for very many roms, and the stock one is definitely the most stable, but I have used cm6 and 7, damagecontrol and damageless, and decks.
The damageless rom with a netarchy cfs nohavs kernel was just as stable as the stock unrooted. And much snappier, as you can freeze sense and use jit. Ill probably go back to it but right now I'm using decks. 1.13b2, and its... just... so... fast...
I was a big user of the camera so I miss the sense camera, and 1.13b can be a little shaky at times but 1.12 was probably the best for general fast task switching use. I'm falling for aosp harder each day
Sent from my Decks Evo. Quickly.
As of right now what is currently the fastest/smoothest Sense rom that is still being supported by the dev? Any comments are appreciated
As far as still supported you might be hard to find consitency...
My opinions would be for:
TeeROM 3.0 - developers "final" version
Stock+ 3.01 - Not getting active dev but its by far one of the best Sense roms.
McSense 2.6 - Another solid but non-dev rom
Edit: The likelyhood of finding a sense rom 2.1 or higher that is fast on the incredible is very unlikely. Way to resource needy.

My port of MikG is snappy and trouble free. Of course I could be a little biased. Lol. But seriously. It is the best Sense 2.1 + ROM as far as stability and speed. That's why I ported over the newest version for us. Try it at theMikMik. MikG Incredible forum. I think you'll be pleased.

I'd say any of the Sense 1.0 roms should be fine. If you want one without bloat, or many tweaks, Liberation 3.0 would fit the bill. It's been tested for stability. It is the final version though.
McSense is also a good choice for some theming and tweaks.
I just avoid any rom based off of another phone (port). Including Sense 3.0+
Personally I run a custom cm7 kang that I've stripped down and removed everything I deemed unnecessary. Turned off animations, use Launcher Pro, and it flies faster than any Sense rom.

I would have to go with mikg man, this thing flys !

What parts of sense are you wanting intact? If you're simply looking to stay away from AOSP, my experience with Insensitive Minimalist has been excellent. Very fast and designed to be highly customizable. I like it so much for its stability and compatibility I keep flashing back to my backup of that while I wait on issues to get hammered out of ICS. My other dinc is running Stock+, so if you want a ROM that is mostly stock, its also good. Inc Ultimate looks like its worth a try, but I haven't gotten around to it.
Ultimately, "still in development" is something I don't think applies to any sense Rom at the moment, as most of the really active devs seem to have moved on to other devices.
I flashed MikG and so far I'm loving it How is it with Gingertiny kernel?
I haven't tried them all, but have tried a few of the Sense 3.5 roms - and of course my stock Sense 2 roms - Virtuous Unity, Sense...quite slow and laggy.
Also tried BeatMod Bliss Sense - again same story...slow, laggy.
But just switched from G-Lite 2 (non sense rom( to MikRoms MikRunny 1.0 and for a Sense 3.5 based rom it's FAST. Faster than my original slow Gingerbread ROM, actually!
Add Supercharger script and a SDcard partition and you're flying ;-)
Oh I have a Desire Z, so RAM/speed is a real issue. So impressive that a ROM could run anything about Sense 2 at anything but prehistoric speeds :-D
Can someone point me in the direction of a sense rom with all working widgets and stable for gf to use on a daily basis? Flashed her up on cyanogenmod and she is missing all the sense widgets etc. Need a rom thats stable for her to use with sense so i'm constantly not messing with it for her.
Thanks in advance
MikG v3.0 is the one she needs. It's a final version with everything working, great battery life as well. Some get even better battery life with that rom and Chopsuey 9.2.7 as their kernel.
Another option
Try the EVO Classic by Tommytomatoe

He keeps the best of Sense, gets rid of bloatware, and adds a lot of nice tweaks and theme options.
It's the only ROM for me.

+1 MikG 3.0, it just works, and has a lot of stuff built in.
I haven't been on it in a long time, but off hand, I'd agree with MikG.
One more vote for MikG. My brother uses it. It is fast, has good battery life, and everything works!
I have only rooted and flashed 1 ROM, as I am a total noob, but I am using the Energy SensationXL Sense 3.5 ROM and the ChopSuey 9.2.7 kernel, and absolutely love them. Battery life is great and it looks so sleek and runs smooth too. No 4g though, which can be a deal breaker, but there is no 4g from Sprint in my area anyway. HDMI mirroring is a plus too. I don't know if my post is relevant enough but I'm new to this myself and I'm just trying to help! Hope I succeeded
One more vote for the EVO Classic by Tommytomatoe. It is very stable and fast.
Doc
I'd recommend a Sense 1.0 ROM for stability. EVO Classic, Swagged Out Stock, ICSense, they're all good.
If she liked Cyanogenmod and wants Sense also, with great battery life and speed, then TN's Xplode is the best rom for her,its Sense meets AOSP..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280310 ,but as far as Sense goes, yea MikG is the best running rom around.

Highly recommend either the latest MikG or the latest Synergy! Both run Sense 3.0, have working 4G and are buttery smooth. I've bounced back and forth between those two, and Cyanogenmod 7 (AOSP).
I want to know the "BEST" roms you guys have to offer i am looking again for smooth and stable so do your best btw currently running POSP
