Android or Apple? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'll probably get yelled at for such a post, but I love Android and I was just curious as to what everyone here at xda thinks about this when comparing the two OS's and phones with the iphone 5 announcement and all ... What are your thoughts on the two?

My thoughts on iOS/iPhone: Yawn

The iPhone is not really for the tech savy. It's basically just an app drawer....that's it. You can't customize it and if your already part of this community, it goes against your very nature.
I have also read that Android users consume more data than iPhone users. I don't have the source though.
Also, I'm a bit miffed by the changes Sprint is making. However, the most important thing to me is rate plan prices. Sprint was bleeding to death and instead of raising prices, they changed some things in the background that really should hurt the majority of us.
This will stop the bleed and they can reinvest the money, hopefully, in the network. So I actually want to thank Sprint for not taking the easy road by raising prices.
I would imagine Sprint will get a crap load of new users that are unhappy with At&t or Verizon but were staying there because they can't live without their iPhone.
This was posted in another thread and i completly agree

Haha silver, I literally just read this same exact post in another thread somewhere...

Yes you did it was posted by ptfmedic in the sprint sold us out thread. And i think it perfectly answers the op's question

LOL
Nice one silver...

T-Mobile in store reps are hurting WP7

I just finished having a very annoying discussion/debate with a Tmo store manager. I went in there to see what kind of sleeves they had for my HD7 and, when the manager came over to help, I noticed he owned a Nexus S. I commented on how disappointed I'd been by the Nexus S when I went over to Best Buy on launch day with the intention of buying one. He asked why...I gave him a small list of reasons, and long story short, he took personal offense with my Google/Samsung/Nexus S critiques and started bad mouthing "Windows" and "Windows Mobile 7".
Initially, I pointed out that there is no such thing...that it's Windows Phone 7. He said it means the same thing, and that "Windows" makes both of them. I told him that Windows is a product brand and didn't "make" anything....that yes, Microsoft created Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7, but that they had next to nothing in common beyond that.
He told me Windows is Windows..and that the new Windows for phones is on "mobile" devices, so it's ok to call it Windows Mobile. He also said that to keep people from getting confused, he takes the time to explain how this Windows 7 is not the same as Windows 7 for their pc's. At that point all I could do was chuckle and verify that he was indeed the store manager...which he did.
I then wasted some more of my time by using Palm and WebOS as an example of how it's very inaccurate and misleading to lump a company's newest OS into the same category as whatever else they used before just because it's the same company. I also told him that he and his employees were doing Microsoft, its developers, all early adopters, and his customers a disservice by incorrectly referring to WP7 as Windows Mobile, if solely for the fact that the Windows Mobile name carries such a bad reputation with most consumers. In the end, we agreed to disagree...although I did tell him that I thought Tmo corporate would not approve of his disregard for accuracy when referring to Microsoft's latest OS. To that, he replied that all stores do it the same way.
Ok, sorry for my super sized rant. I just can't believe the attitude that Tmo employees have towards WP7 and Microsoft in general! If this is truly the approach that all TMOUS stores are taking, then they are single-handedly doing more to hurt WP7 than any Apple/Android fanboi ever could. Does my experience in this one store fall in line with what you all have seen at other stores? Or, do you all think that this really doesn't hurt WP7...that I'm overreacting?

I completely agree with you. Every T-Mobile store I walked into for a case / sleeve / screen protector the reps would just tell me how disappointed I would be in a couple weeks if I kept it. When i asked why they would always start refering to the HD2. I tired to explain to them this was a new OS, but most of the time they won't listen. One MANAGER went as far to say he won't let anyone buy them.
Every rep also is completely surprised I've had a Nexus ONE (which i miss) AND a Vibrant (hated the thing) and I still love my HD7 more than both of those phones.
Only 1 store i have been to have i felt i changed the position of the reps. All I had to do at that store was inform them iof what a zune pass was and they were amazed. I consider that a win, but it's something I should of never been forced to do.
MS really needs to step up and start requiring all carrier reps to try out the device as some sort of training program for the device. Once the reps try it out I'm sure the platform will really start to take off.
as said in a different thread... people have this stigma around the Windows brand. Even though for many of them Windows has served them for a decade or more, they relate any issue to Windows. So bringing out a phone, they instantly see it as a "Windows" device because it carries the name "Windows Phone", and therefore instantly think it's full of bugs. They don't even take the time to see that it could smack them up side with the features alone.
I think MS has more work cut out for them beating off the stigma of the name, rather than actually having the device do it's job well...
Nope. Its not that.
TMo stores are full of android fans.
They badmouth everytging ti sell you an android phone.
They even badmouth other android phones to sell u the latest one.
Theyre typically the least informed reps as well. Verizon and sprint reps are generally way more clued in than TMo.
AT&T are the least biased, though, but probably because they have the most variety. I've never felt pressured to buy any certain phone or type of phone in an AT&T store.

I went to 2 different tmobile stores on hd7 launch day and neither one had the wp7 display out or even a demo unit. this was about 2pm on launch day. First store just told me: "yeah, we keep meaning to get that set up." Told them have a nice day, obviously, they weren't looking to sell me a phone. Went to the next one (usual one I do business with and had already had winmo discussions with their android fanboi CS) and they didn't have it set up either. The second store did grab a demo unit and let me play with it for a while without any pressure to buy.
I guess t-mobile has just become so android heavy, its all they know. When I showed off my hd2 to a CS rep, heavily modded with energy and lots of tweaks/ themes, he was impressed how smooth it was. It was then I was shocked to find out that the almighty vibrant required a root/ lagfix to make it smooth.
I don't have anything against android, but they really should know about all the phones they sell and most don't. I complained to t-mobile corporate about it, but as long as they are selling devices with 30 dollar data plans, I doubt they care.
Everything you guys are saying is spot on. It's a combination of all of the above...and it's a major problem. My experience today was not the first time I'd experienced Android bias in a Tmo store, just the worst...and the first that was so blatantly anti-MS. I've never seen a company actively working against a product they sell on as large a scale as this appears to be. I wonder...is this due solely to employees who lack proper training...or if it's some kind of pro-Android corporate mandate?
I would love to hear some feedback from any TMOUS employee who happens to read this thread.
Just posted to their twitter account and you should all do the same.
I think it's BS that they're trying to ruin the OS.
It's all well and good to complain on XDA but not everyone reads here. A lot more do on twitter.
Im changing carriers next month (a friend will etf my account for my nday instead of fetting me a zunehd, since I got one myself).
That works better than twitter, imo.

I mean wow, I guess my local T-Mobile stores are the only ones that love money. Every one that I have been into has been neutral, and will talk to you about any phone. Of course they will put in their personal opinion, I see no harm in that. You can't let a few accusations on this board be a representation T-Mobile.
OMG! It's not just T-Mobile!
All of the phones on display at my local Best Buy have stickers on the screens to represent screenshots instead of being plugged in and functional (what's up with that, BTW?).
So I asked the salesman if I could see a working Windows Phone.
He said there was no such thing as a working Windows Phone.
He said a lot of the Windows Phones they've sold have been returned because they keep crashing. He also said he didn't want to sell me one because he didn't want to have to process the return when I brought it back.
He also gave a quick speech about why I should get an Android instead, but I digress.
So apparently the conspiracy reaches beyond the T-Mobile stores.

It's pretty widespread. It's not like we don't follow TMobile on Twitter or have them Liked in Facebook (because they may make announcements there that we miss while out and about, but can get the notification on our phones). Others are (and have) reporting similar issues in T-Mobile stores.
T-Mobile as a company is heavily biased towards Android. They sort of see themselves are the O.G.'s of Android Cell Phone carriers.
The fact that you have a decent store in your area is about as representative as the occurences described in this thread by other posters.
I've been posting for months about how T-Mobile rags on phones and platforms in order to sell you the CSR's prefered device.
The Vibrant was the next thing since sliced bread on release. The Minute the G2 and then MyTouch 4G was released, it became a problem device not recommended by the CSRs in all of the stores around here. God forbid you ask about a RIM or Windows Phone (HD2 or HD7). They look at you as if you're speaking a foreign language. How dare you request anything other than Android?!
Personally I buy the best phone for what I need at that time. When the Vibrant came out, I already had an HD2, and T-Mobile didn't have any other phones worth a ****, so I got the Vibrant. Needed a phone with multi-touch in more than a few apps, and up to date first party applications + Exchange connectivity (Facebook, Twitter, etc. official Clients).
That, and real flash was a deciding factor. Samsung did say FroYo was coming in a couple months before the phones were released, and I regrettably took their word for it. Also, 2.2 brings Push Notifications, which was another biggie for me.
I'm not necessarily loyal to any platform, so when I have to constantly deal with biased CSRs, it agravates the **** out of me.
Especially since I know more than they do, but I'm too nice to tell them to just "get the hell out of my face."

Being that I posted this thread just a couple of hours ago, I'm actually surprised at the number of people that have already experienced something similar from Tmo and felt strongly enough about it to share their experience on here. I am certainly not anti-Tmobile. I've been a T-Mobile customer for 7 years, and over that time span have bought many devices from then. On average, 3 per year.
I'm also not anti-Android. In fact, most of the devices I've bought over the past 2 years have run Android...beginning with the very first..the G1(which I will never get rid of!). But, all that being said, I've seen and heard enough to be convinced that this is a real problem...and your tendency to post an opinion that goes against the grain of many of the threads you post in will not change that.
Tell me, why does it seem that most of the time I come across one of your posts, you are at odds with the others who posted in the same thread? Have I just happened to catch those threads and missed others where you don't do this, or do you do it on purpose? I know I could go and read your post history, but I rather hear it from you.
I bet Microsoft would love to know why there devices are not selling in Tmobile stores, surely someone knows a contact he can give this thread to... Then let the lawsuits fly.

You're asking him rhetorical questions. Let's not get into this type of discussion. It's off-topic and it will more than likely result in a thread lock.
Move on and live with the fact that he disagrees.
Though I doubt he goes into T-Mobile stores with any frequency to check out RIM, WM, or WP7 devices... Given his posts/attitude on this forum.

They probably think it's because it's the smallest major carrier. They probably could have sold more if they put a phone on Boost Mobile, instead of T-Mobile, to be honest...
Also, Windows Phone sales weren't expected to be super high. WP7 was released after a slew of Android super phones that soaked up a ton of contract renewals (and off-contract purchases).
On top of that, there are no CDMA WP7 devices. Sprint is generally starved of decent smartphones (only two decent ones at the moment), so they'll probably sell a bit there when they are released. Verizon doesn't have anything but redundant Droid phones, so I'm sure they will sell quite a bit WP7 devices when it goes there.
Many people who wanted an iPhones simply went to AT&T to get it, although I'm sure there's quite a few on Verizon that will get one. AT&T is cheaper than Verizon, anyways.
These are all factors that people on this forum dissenting upon WP7 almost always intentionally fail to mention.
EDIT: Oh, and let's not forget the HTC Surround is pretty crappy. The HD7 is an HD2 in a new skin (and it's on T-Mobile, see thread subject), and the Dell Venue Pro is still going through tweaks before it starts shipping en masse (Dell giving all their employees one probably cut deeply into stock available for the average consumer). The manufacturers and carriers didn't really do Microsoft any favors IRT launch devices (Microsoft doesn't design phones, so it's not their doing).

LOL about Boost Mobile.
I do disagree about the Surround though. It's smoother than any Android phone I've used to date and the hardware is good quality. I've not had any lockups other than Marketplace once and a slow Java script. It may not be groundbreaking, but there's only so much you can get in a phone.
As for experiences with T-Mobile, I think both them and AT&T have been dragging their feet on the WM handsets, and T-Mobile might be outright sabotaging sales. The T-Mobile reps I talked to all had Android phones and had to pull an HD7 from behind the counter, and I was the first to play with it after two days being out . They also steered me strongly away from the HD2, which I know to be stable when it's not saddled with lots of bloatware.
If I were MS, I'd be asking some questions.
Being in the UK I dont see it as much as pretty much all phones are on any network except the trophy with is vodafone only at the moment and the HD7 with is O2 at the moment.
But if I were asking people whos job it is to sell my devises how sales are and they say rubbish and I could back up my complaint with this info they would be getting a very stiff punch in the face.
I'm an employee and I actually love my HD7. Ask me about it in my store and I'd pull mine out and show you Netflix, Zune, the 720 cam, explain the Ui and the specs to a "T". I try and educate everyone that comes in the store and tell them about all the features.. Unfortunately I get a lot of people just interested in the mytouch 4g.. I understand its a 4g phone and it is the only one that boasts a great front faced cam.. But It's not a great fit for every buyer.. Judging by what I have read thus far, it seems as though a lot of you have been burned by misinformed, ignorant and very rude rsa.. But that really shouldn't deter you from retaining our great service.. Yes there are a lot of ignorant rsa out there and not a lot of them even know what kind of features the phones have.. I am sorry about the way you guys were treated. You people as customers are very appreciated and should be well informed about each and every product without bias.. Unfortunately, there are a lot of "sale men" and not enough tech men.. I hope you guys don't take it out on the company and retain your well appreciated service with us.. The HD7 is a killer!!

I'm leaving T-Mobile because they released a Product that performs like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB1b0UrX9e0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2do065zuSUI
And now they're dragging their feet along with Samsung to bring updates.
When I change phones because of a faulty product, I usually take my family plan to another carrier at the same time.

[Q] Can we please start a forum here for MetroPCS SAmsung Indulge?

Hi,
I see from another forum that several inquiries have been made about giving the Samsung Indulge it's own forum here at XDA.
I'd like to ask this question of the forum developers here.
Another post said that the answer given was that only the top four carriers can get a forum here.
Why?
We need some help cracking this phone from some of you heavy hitters here . Apparently it's not easy. There is alot of crapware on this phone, and the battery life is abysmal.
There is some talk at the Android forum of offering a bounty.....anyone interested in this?
If the fact that this phone is locked down so tightly doesn't warrant it getting it's own forum here, what does? Seems like this phone is the perfect candidate. And wasn't it one of the first 4g phones actually available? I would think this would be enuff to get a heavy hitter interested.
Bragging rights and all.
Help!
I second this notion but rather you guys like it or not, Metropcs have its first android 4g phone with an unlimited $60 dollar plan no contract, i can see metro taking over if other carriers don't get with the program! Back on Topic, please can u make a device thread for this phone, its still new but it will soon get much attention if u let it. This website has the best hackers and trouble shooters i know, i know because im coming from an HTC HD2. The samsung indulge has great potential but its super locked down! Help us, its not like it wont fit in, it is an android phone which could even offer fixes for others, please don't exclude us from the community based on carrier, kinda sad.................
Yep, we need help. We have the phone rooted but need something more. Samsung has done some strange stuff with this phone.
I now this thread is probably gonna be trashed, because XDA only supports the primary 4 carriers. However with the recent addition of nationwide cellular phone service as well as LTE for the top U.S. cities Metropcs deserves a second consideration. Metropcs will no doubt be a competitor in the very same market as the primary 4 for a long time to come. With that competition expanding (more rapidly than the other as well) one way or another Metropcs is many people's future. To put a finer point on it. Metropcs should be a defacto choice for the open source community in general as their lack of restrictions on their network, As well as not requiring any kind of contract puts them in a decidedly less evil position than the primary 4. Did i mention they charge about half as much and are truly unlimited? I realize most skiddies could care less, because they are on mommy and daddys dime anyhow. However some of us working class people actually desire to support with our hard earned money those who believe in things like freedom of information and supporting the company that adheres closest to our personal principles, and not supporting the very same company who would lobby against the very consumer it was created to support. Now im not a Metropcs fan boy, and i understand that Metropcs also can lobby against general consumer desires, But without the likes of company's like Metropcs to rival the Quadopoly there is little interest on the quadopoly's part to provide better services at ever more reasonable price points. And while i mention only Metropcs, there are many other companys in their own region fighting to provide the same benefits to their consumer's. That if the quadopoly's had their way would be incapable on competing due to cost of entry and spectrum saturation.
im in, signing the petition or whatever i need to do
i have an indulge i can send out if anyone is interested in creating a custom rom for us, one thats rooted
I agree with everything said above! I support the concept of "free" and I do want to hold providers accountable for "unlimited". Whatever it takes. With a European perspective and the way cellular business is overseas, I can see that this forum actually helps people break free from the claws of the cellular trust dominating the US market and practicing marginally predatory hardsell fineprint type contracts. This would be one more step to freedom. A bold one. Just think about everything that's going to start happening, once an unrestricted ROM for Indulge hits the openspace... more people would pick these phones and ditch their contracts and the day when the snowball swallows "the big 4" will be near!
allow me to throw my name on the petition as well. Who knows these countermeasures could be included on future phones on the big 4. In which case getting it fixed before it hits there would work for everyone.
I pledge to pledge if a bounty is started for whoever can get full root on the Indulge!
I agree, MetroPCS phones should be taken into consideration. I used to have metro, but their phones lacked what I needed which forced me to move to Tmobile (eh.. nexus 1 bells 'n whistles helped too)
Anyhow, I'm in agreement with choosing a carrier that is less expensive and therefore more competitive in the mobile market. I'm tired of paying $180ish for 2 phones when I could have "more" for $120ish.
The phones have the capability, its just a matter of exploiting it.
I'm in for the possibility of expanding the community to include metro phones.
There is a Bounty thread started at the Indulge Forum at Androidforums.com.......

bounty thread
myprepaiddroid has it's own indulge forum section it's lacking a little but it's a start.
Yes I agree with all of the above. Please lets do it, indulge owners count too...
Sent from my SCH-R910 using XDA Premium App
Mods should take note that this was the FIRST LTE Android phone available, doesn't that count for something?
According to the fcc filings this phone is able to make a voice call while data is active (not common with most CDMA phones) but it was disabled in software. That would be an amazing feature to unlock
Until the forum is created I suggest that all the Indulge owners look here
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-indulge/
i also think there should be a section for the indulge, that is a really good device
ok
thanks for help
Now that a one click root solution has been created can we get more attention on this phone?

SGII vs iphone4S

Im so impressed with the SGII compared to other devises it just continues to amaze http://pocketnow.com/smartphone-news/comparison-iphone-4s-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-video
Wow, I have to admit, I'm impressed
I have just gone from the HTC Sensation to Samsung GS2 and overall the samsung is better especially now its overclocked to 1504 but the sensation had an awesome screen for viewing and i loved the curved face.....and the very missed led.
There is more to it than who can open the applications faster, etc.
I owe a epic 4g touch, so I am partial towards this device. That being said, the iphone 4s was neck and neck with it, and possible as fast if you account for the longer animations.
The iphone 4s processor is clocked way lower than the gs2....it is trade off for battery life. While samsung was worried about being the faster android first and foremost...it appears that apple knew their device was more than fast enough...so they upped the battery life.
Sadly, there is no comparison between the graphic chips in these two phones. The iphone 4s blows away the mal 400...and is only bested by the high clocked version in the ipad 2.
The screen on the gs2 is big and beautiful...while the clarity is better on the iphone 4s thanks to the pixel density (this is true...not in the same way that the evo3d owners were claiming their screen was better...it is not...I just sold my evo3d....apple has a great screen here). So it comes down between big and beautiful...vs smaller and clear while still pretty.

Have you missed all the post about yellowed tint and poor battery life is the gs2 forums? What about battery life and Los signal in our very own epic touch forums?
No phone is perfect. I don't see how that contradicts or supports what I said.

Besides what was already said, you are all falling Epicly, as this is not the SGII section. Close but no cigar, this is the E4GT section. LOL
Any chance a moderator could fix them up?

I know which section it is....i owe the phone.
Our phone has had it share of problems, as does most phones. Is it that hard to see the point I am making.
I love the epic 4g touch...amazing phone. Just to make that clear. But that doesn't mean one can't be unbiased and not act like a fanboy.

Yep, clear as mud. Did you look around at all before starting this thread? As was already pointed out, there have already been plenty of these type of posts in this section.
That article has nothing to do with this phone no matter how similar you think it is. And there is a SGII section that it would be fine for posting in.
If you're looking to create a new discussion on the iphone topic, you're not, it's been beat to death and everyone is tired of them. You like the phone? Great, go get one. You can join MartyLK and his quest to win XDA over and all become crapple fanboys. Check out his argument in the general section, or every other thread that is crapple vs. anything.
And I'm sorry that you "owe" the phone, that's kinda weird. LOL

I am not the op I was just responding to his post.
If you read it, it should be evident that I was not promoting the iPhone or the galaxy s2 . I really not sure I understand the argument against my post. Maybe you didn't read it? Never the less....enough of the bs....I feel like this forum is full of children.
I own the phone....and don't give a damn about what phone Is better because I thoroughly enjoy the epic touch. But again....everyone's response here is odd...and pitiful to be honest.
Anyway, take care.

Sorry about that, I was in a hurry and at work. I could have sworn I saw your name as the OP.
Anyway, show me a side by side of the E4GT and the iJunk and that's fine. But what point is there putting the SGII in this section?
And as far as people who love the iJunk so much, the majority are paid by crapple to be fanboys. They either don't want to lose the sponsorship, are getting perks, have some kind of vested interest or otherwise in crapple. I just haven't seen an unbiased review on any of crapples products. Here's a fact about biased supposedly unbiased reporting: http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti...se_the_smartphone_IQ_once_again?taxonomyId=15
Read on down to paragraph 4 of that article. "A new antenna design addresses notorious dropped-call problems that plagued iPhone 4." I bet when he was reviewing the iJunk 4 he never mentioned that it was plagued with anything, ESPECIALLY dropped calls. They're all a bunch of phony, fake, biased and paid for reviews that lead smart, non tech savvy, people into buying crap.

dude you gotta realize how annoying it is to see the same threads over and over and over. A quick search of iphone4s vs et4g would have yielded you a handful of threads already open about the same topic. Anyone who has any type of forum etiquitte knows to search before posting, on top of that, the OP picked the sorest topic to post about. iPhone vs anything does nothing but turn into a flame war ending with name calling. Every forum...every thread.

Agreed, I was just replying to the thread. I did not create it.
So I feel like I have a decent unbiased comparison here so flaming aside I will put my 2 cents in. I have owed every android phone sprint has offered, along with a few att and tmobile devices because of my job. I posted in the other thread about who was jumping to the 4s and said I was not but my wife was because of a program she needed that worked flawlessly on ios but not so much on android....
After day 3 of her having the iphone she said she would rather have my e4g over her 64gb iphone that we bought OUTRIGHT! So of course I asked her why and being not so techy she said "I like it better". So we switched phones for a day and this is what I came up with....
Clarity of the iphone screen is awesome from little tiny fonts to zooming in and not seeing pixelation. Camera was comparable to my eye after zooming in, no printing though. That being said I have owed every iphone except the original and they all are the same, more or less, software wise. After using the 4s I returned it for a second e4g. I still think the iphone has the most forgiving and accurate keyboard but the screen size on the e4g makes up for that easily. App quality is nice on the iphone but android has done well in that category now as well. Siri is boarderline creepy...my wife asked random personal questions and it answered "I try to stay satisfied but this is about you not me" lol...but does its job well however I will never get used to any voice recognition, ios or android.
So all in all, I won't ever really down technical innovation, but after using both I am much more content with the e4g....and the $920 after taxes that came with the return. Like I said, just my 2 cents though.

Honestly I think posts like these are a bit pointless. You're on an Epic 4G Touch forum, what do you think the majority of the responses are going to be?

The Verge - LoS Post

Not sure if any of you guys have heard of The Verge yet, but its the new tech blog type of venture Joshua Topolksy (the Engadget guy). I like it but we will see if they become Apple fanboys over there too. I started a thread regarding LoS just to get the issue out there. Here is the link! Blow this sheeeeit up!

Ya know, it bugs me that every little issue with the new iPhone is plastered all over every tech blog on earth and yet our phone gets nothing mentioned about the major issues it has for some people. Hope something comes of this.

Lol the The Verge/This is My Next was started by the exodus of the Apple fanboys from Engadget.
Engadget's coverage of Android got significantly more even-handed after they left.
If you ask me, the only people who think Topolosky and crew are Apple fanboys are Android fanboys. Joshua's daily phone is the Nexus S which he's been very happy with, plus he had some fantastic coverage of ICS. (and was very impressed with ICS)

First the Android fanboys get mad because Engadget posted an article about how the Evo 4G had a capped frame-rate. (remember that EVO owners?? I sure do) They said, "how come Engadget only posts negative stuff about Android and not about the iPhone??" Never minding the fact that "Antenna Gate" got loads of coverage. Now you're complaining about them not covering the LOS issue?
Oh well, nothing to do but laugh I guess.

Yes I'm complaining. The iPhones issues will be addressed much faster because the average person can read about them anywhere and that puts pressure on Apple to fix a device that "just works". Our issues are listed here and on Sprint forums so the rest of the world doesn't know that Samsung and Sprint drag their feet with important updates. There's no pressure on these companies except from people they've already taken money from. Apple has to uphold an image and it will. Samsung and Sprint just have to keep blaming each other and putting off what they surely can fix.

No worries guys, didn't mean my post to come across so snippy. And I agree that it would be great to get some coverage of this issue (though I personally haven't had it yet.. knock on wood). I also completely agree with poppygt that Samsung/Sprint will just blame each other until someone puts some heat on them.
I love Android, but getting support for anything more than the most basic of functions is the one thing that is really frustrating. When you find a bug, there's almost nothing you can do except post about it on the internet. The problem is that there are 3 throats to choke: the carrier, the manufacturer, and Google. None of them is really setup to do much. Both the carrier and the manufacturer just want to get you off the phone as quickly as possible. Their only way to really help you is to replace your phone, which is usually pointless when dealing with a bug. I guess Google kinda/sorta has a support site where you can file bugs, but it's not exactly easy to find and it's hard to know if anyone ever looks at them, let alone fix them.

If everything was vertical within Google/Android like Apple is, it would be a lot less of a headache for us. Funny thing is, the sales for Android still don't really suffer even with bugs on the manufacturing side of things. It has the "bad ass" factor, haha. Majority of users (not us XDA folks) don't even realize the bugs, they will think its their phone and like you said just get a new one so that in itself prevents issues from getting more attention because everyday consumers don't really think of it as a bug but the phone itself.
Anyways, I love android. The end. haha.

Just had an outstanding encounter with an ATT representative.

I went into an ATT store today to see if it was worth picking up a focus S to play sidebar to my lumia 800 today and a representative walked up to me ecstatic. The first words out of her mouth were "I've been waiting for someone to stop drooling over that tired old iPhone for 30 minutes so I could show them this phone, hi, I'm Katie." she then proceeded to pull out her own focus, walk me over to an iPhone, and show me how much smoother the wp7 device was and even used the term "peoplecentric." All the while I feigned ignorance and awe at the phone. She was absolutely ecstatic about wp7 and spent a good 20 minutes just raving about how revolutionary it was. After her spiel I showed off my lumia as well as my son's and told her that the focus series were the only U.S. based phones I have. I asked her if she'd get commission if I did buy it, she hesitantly admitted that she would, and I bought it for that reason alone. She gave me some sense of hope for the dreadful carrier interference in the success of a superior OS.
Dude, did you get her facebook?!
Okay, kidding. Nice to see that someone is doing a great job showing off WP7.
...maybe AT&T got my memo lol...cool story!

For that reason alone?
It showed that not all carrier salespeople are completely blind. I've actually been one of those who's encountered numerous reps who think we're running winmo and one who said it was laggy compared to his vibrant which I was excited to disprove. It was nice to see a knowledgeable rep.

So, when a salesperson favors Android or iOS over WP, they are "blind", but when one refers to the iPhone (which is another product they are responsible to sell) as a "tired old" device, they are cool? Gotcha. No hypocrisy going on here.

No when people go in asking about wp7 and the salespeople try to tell them about android instead or say incorrect things about the os they are blind..
Jesus does one positive story about at&t bother you that much?
She was obviously a little upset at the lack of an iPhone 5 this year. The slight differences in the 4 and 4s were a downer. She mentioned how she was an apple fangirl until she saw the 4s. Either way, the point was that it's nice to see a knowledgeable rep at att.

Thank you for yet another childish, offensive, utterly ignorant post (which as been reported). Go back to second grade, please.
As for the "one positive story" comment, it wasn't positive. It displayed the exact same kind of ignorant bias on the part of a salesperson that all of the WP zealots condemn every day. But since it was bias AGAINST iPhone, that makes it all OK.
No, the reason for praise was the fact that att miraculously hired a knowledgeable rep.

that had nothing to even do with it, yet that's all you derive from the story.

It was the fact she actually knew about the os and didn't try to talk him into another os when he mentioned wp7.

Yes, I have a bias - against hypocrites. The OP didn't say "it was great to find a salesperson who knew about WP", he went out of his way to point out how she called the iPhone a "tired old" device. And he also implied that not favoring WP makes a salesperson "completely blind". That is what raises my ire. It is ignorant and hypocritical.
I never said or implied any such thing. I merely respected the fact that she was knowledgeable about the device rather than shoving me over to android or ios like every other GSM carrier. Most cdma carriers don't even know they offer windows phones. What you took from it, you took because you wanted to flame bait me. You took one sentence from the entire statement and made it out to be everything. Sadly I didn't recall her sales pitch from memory, otherwise there'd be full chat logs.
I believe with the 4s people were expecting improvements beyond a camera. Their processor still doesn't make it run as smooth as wp7 so I hardly call that an upgrade, and the best software increase is something they bought off of their own market.

Maybe it wasn't your intent to give off a fanboyish vibe, but considering how much fanboyism there is on display in this forum (from both zealots and haters), perhaps you should proofread your posts to ensure they convey the tone you intend, and not something more incendiary.
If it is my job to sell something, would I not be considered incompetent? Yeah, this Audi is terrible, lets enter my comfort zone with a ford. That Audi is running on steam and therefor is inferior. I never said that I don't have a personal preference, however I believe it was clear that I'm not praising her for hers. It was simply pleasant that someone knew something about that which they were selling. When I tell carriers that I want social network integration, they veer me towards android, that is not the best option. When I had a vibrant and I asked about phones with netflix, they veered me towards the vibrant 4g with promises of "it's coming." The HD7 was readily available. The carriers are generally ignorant assuming that winmo and windows phone are the same thing. When cellphones are your financial income, take the time to learn about them.

Talk about backtracking. I equally suggest that perhaps you look at people's posts more neutrally instead of assuming there is fanboyism in them, which you seem to have done.
