My contacts last synced with my Gmail account on Thursday 29/9/2011 at 08h37. It has been saying that Sync is currently experiencing problems and will be back shortly.
Everything else syncs fine, it's just the contacts.
I have rebooted the phone several times. Nothing seems to help. I really don't want to do a default reset if I don't have to. Any ideas?
Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
MAC

I did just that but it keeps giving the same error message.
Here the same ,error when syncing google contacts, since february 2011...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Finally sorted out...
I went to Android Central and the answer was there!!!
Here's what to do:
Menu>Settings>Account Sync>Disable all
Then (Be sure to backup call log, contacts etc before next step):
Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Contacts Storage>Clear Data
This clears the entire contacts database which seems to get corrupt after something or other. Mine happened when syncing Skype contacts!!!
Then Enable Sync again and, then REBOOT device immediately (note not just a power down and fast boot, but a Reboot/Restart).
Your contacts should start syncing again!!!
Yippee!!!
Yeah,it works but when I restore my backup ( contacts and call log) with my backup then I have the same error with syncing again...

I only backed up my call log. I did not restore my contacts because they were already there on Google. Try it without restoring contacts and let it sync with Google.
But how do you get the contacts from Google back on your phonelist?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You let you your phone sync normally once you have rebooted. All your contacts are in the cloud already, or should be.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Ah yes,I see...but I want the numbers back in my internal phonebook...not only in the Google account. And point is that several numbers are not synced for several months,so I loose them if I delete the data and after reboot sync...?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Everything that's in your phone will sync with Google. You need to back your contacts up with Sprite backup or GO CONTACTS. Then follow the steps indicated. See if that works for you.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
At worst you could always back them up with a pencil and paper
Couldn't synch contacts...

Last night I updated my wife's Epic to DK28. The problem is her contacts are gone and syncing doesn't bring them back. Why wouldn't they have saved to her gmail am I overlooking something. I have flashed my phones a lot and never had this issue.
Sent from my SPH-M900 using XDA App
check google/contacts online and see if her contacts are listed there. My wife had a similar problem and turns out when she added a contact she added them to her phone address book and not google.

They are not there is there a way to add them to Google after they are back in the phone?

can you get them back on the phone? Are there a lot of them?
I had a similar problem on the syndicate rom a while ago. It would say it was syncing for a second then stop. I also noticed when i went to facebook.com and tried to install the app from there it thought my phone was something other than the epic. I resolved the issue by using a different ROM. I don't know if these things are related, but that might be a start...
Yeah luckily we found her old phone and transferred thru bluetooth but I am tryin to figure out how to get them to google in case this happens again. As far as the rom she was totally stock di18 not even rooted for 5 weeks and I updated her to unrooted dk28.

You should be able to export them from contacts via the import/export menu option. This will create a file named something like 00001.vcf(vCard file) in sdcard/external_sd/. Then go to the google contacts and import it. Hope that helps!
Ok I will try that. Thanks alot guys.

Just make sure when she adds any new contacts that she adds them to google.
Stupid question but she does have syncing turned on in her contacts right? After they're restored try to force sync, then check her google account from a desktop/laptop to see if it worked.
I've not had much luck with the import export v card feature. I recently had to delete all contacts on my phone, then go to my google account via desktop, export all contacts to google.csv, delete all contacts online, then reinstall online from the google.csv file in order to fix a syncing problem.

I think google may be having an issue at the moment. My phone is saying that Sync is currently offline and will be back shortly.
Yeah her sync is on I just don't get what happened. I have reflashed my epic about 10 times without issue. And my moment ugh probably 75-100. Never lost contacts it has been automatic since I got my first android.

After my last rom flash I had a situation where any time I added a contact on the phone it got deleted after syncing. No idea why but a google search lead me to others that had the same issue.
I think this OS still has a lot to be ironed out. I wish they'd stop adding features and just make a decent contacts app. I can't for the life of me figure out why I have to select which of the same four phone numbers I want to dial when I try to call a contact that is synced to multiple accounts, for example.

sometimes when i have synching issues, i fix it by going into 'manage applications' and clearing the data for that app. i've had to do that with gmail.... it erases and re-synchs the app, and afterwards it works like normal. of course, only do it if she does indeed have her contacts backed up on Google... otherwise they will be gone. not sure if this will fix hers, but just saying it did fix my synching issues a few times.
So its really doesn't matter how but I have now every contact on my phone 3 times.
So I want to know if there's a way to delete everyone from my phone at one time and not each on individual.

delete the "Contacts" Cache under Settings - Applications - All, will delete any contact as far as I know. Did it last week accidentially when I wanted to clean the contacts stored on the phone because I am only using Google Contact Sync now.
thank you
I was looking for this thing, I recovered my contacts from a .vcf file and this resulted in lot of duplicates on my contacts.
Thanks buddy!
hi,
i've upgraded from a DHD, after syncing with facebook and putting my details in, the contacts in my contacts app dont all show the facebook profile picture.
Some do.....unsure why, but not the majority......
Never had this issue with my desire and my desire hd
i could wipe the phone and start again, or remove facebook data and then re-add
i'm also wondering about how HTC actually saves this data also, like since its related to my gmail account, some of the images may have saved to some of my contacts that way, making me think that they have the facebook profile pic attached, when in fact its not, its google saving this image to my address book, rather than the phone receiving this from my facebook contacts (yeah i know, i'm not too good at explaining this)
Bottom line, my phone address book includes facebook contacts, many of which dont actually have any profile pics attached to their contact on my phone.
PS: I'm just gonna wipe and start again, and see what happens
it happens on mine too. was wondering~
any solution so far?
I did a hard reset, it helped a little as now more of my contacts are showing facebook profile pic, but still not all

I believe this is an ICS (Android 4.0) issue. Get Haxsync from the Market (argh, Play Store). It resolves this.

Keep getting a notification that says mobile life contacts check status. I click on it and it doesnt do anything. I clear it... Comes back again within like 4-5 hours. How do i get this to go away?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Don't know how to get rid of it, but just wanted you to know you weren't the only one that has it.
Also, you can't remove the mobile life contacts from the Accounts settings page either. I tried and it said it is required for some applications to work.
Strange. I guess when we start getting ics based off of the update we will be able to move it.

I just got the same notification. Not sure how to get rid of it completely. Maybe titanium backup?
Possible Solution
I can't post a link yet since I am new but if you google "check status mobilelife contacts on htc" I found the support.tmoble one has a solution. I am about to try the google account one because I don't want to do a reset for something simple like this. Hope this helps everyone
I froze it using titanium backup.

Did the same, here.
Fix:
1.) Settings > Applications > All tab
2.) Find Mobile Life Contacts
3.) Force Stop and Clear Data
Reboot phone to ensure it doesn't pop back up.
Cancel that, starts again on reboot.
I thought i was finally helpful.

Got that as well. Backed it up and uninstalled using Titanium.
It won't mess up anything if you freeze it. Use Titanium Pro to freeze, and you will never see it again.
There's definitely tons of garbage to freeze with the official tmo release that's for sure.. TI pwnage
This worked for me
Resolution steps
To fix the MobileLife contacts not syncing, follow these steps:
If you wish to continue using MobileLife contact backup you must perform a master reset of your device. To perform a master reset of the device, follow the steps below:
From home screen press Menu.
Tap Settings.
Tap Storage.
Tap Factory data reset.
After the factory reset is complete, re-sync MobileLife back to your device through accounts and sync.
For an alternate work around and to back up contacts via a Google account, complete the following steps:
From home screen tap Applications.
Tap Contacts or People.
Press Menu.
Tap Import/Export.
Tap Export to SD card.
Tap MobileLife Contacts.
Tap OK on confirm export.
You will now be returned to Contacts or People.
Press Menu.
Tap Import/Export.
Tap Import from SD card.
Tap Google Account.
Tap OK to continue.
Your contacts are now synced with your Google account. Please navigate to Accounts and sync and verify that automatic synchronization is setup.

Not to be rude, but this just doesnt make any sense. On previous custom ROMs that were debloated, all I had to do was restore that apk using titanium and I was good to go.
This not withstanding, I recently flashed Darkside ICS, and I attempted to restore the APK, but now my contacts will not sync. Are there other processes that are required in order for the Tmo contacts to sync? If so, what are they? I personally like having my contacts synced to MobileLife...
Just to help out. What you are looking for is the "Back Up" and then is will have the version numbers. Freeze it for now. Then Delete it later to make sure you don't mess something up.
This should have the Icon of a rotated white book with T-Mobile color arrows on top and bottom of the icon.
freeze it. I did and it took away the account inside the "Accounts and Sync" area of settings.
Now only my Gmail account is there.
You will need the Pro version of Titanium, but it is worth every penny and more.
I know this is an old thread but I ran across it and wanted to put exactly what needed to be done.
Thanks

Hi all.
Has anyone had a problem with disappearing contacts? There are times when after a call i get 0 contacts in my list. Google private contacts, and work contacts from exchange start syncing and in a minute (or five) I can see all of them again?
I get that like once per 2-days.
update
Anyone?
My contacts come from 3 sources:
-gmail sync ~600 contacts
-exchange 2010 sp1 ~200 biz contacts
-friendcaster ~100 contacts
maybe that is the problem?
Contacts keep disappearing.
Just had another one.
Got logcat this time.
It happen wit me too....I flashed again n bravo all is good

Flashed again cm9 alpha7
Today I:
wiped app cache
wiped dalvik cache
flashed again
booted
made link2sd work
Now waiting for contacts to crash ... so far no sign of disaster
Sometimes what happens is.
I open the phone app and voila xD no contacts to be seen. NO FREAKING CONTACTS and then I have to restart the device to see them again..
But sometimes when I open the phone app, they aren't there, but they come after like 30-40 sec.
This is really troubling me because at times, it's very urgent to call someone, and it behaves like that.
If you find any cure, temme!
Thanks
Paras.

You sure they'r not there. It takes some time to sync contacts from google account. At my 3G connection it takes about 2 mins to sync 600-700 of them.
If you don't see them try restarting your internet connection (disable, activate) and observe number of contacts in upper right corner of contacts app.
What I did was force close the app contact and then clear dat.. then sync back the contact(mine manually from hotmail exchange) and it works

just out of curiosity, did you do anything to get link2sd to work? I tried using it on my install of CM9, and it periodically ate my 2nd partition. My SD card wouldn't even mount anymore.

Disaster came again. Flashing made no difference.
If there's someone who could analize logcat ... be my guest
Cheers
I think, the data2sd conflicts with the contacts. (just a thought) ..... anyways, you find a cure, you pm me.
