Yes. Wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache partition, then wipe dalvik.
Definitely do a full wipe. Things start acting crazy with a capital K if you don't.

I flashed the CM7 RC2 the other night and just got all my widgets/apps in the place I want them.
Question: If I flash the nightly's through RomManager, will my widgets/apps still be in place or will I have to set everything up again?
Don't wipe anything besides cache and they will stay. Occasionally I will have to redo my widgets.

CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE dalvik cache is actually more important than normal cache sometimes. wipe both then flash nightly.
thanks guys
I'm currently running cm7 rc3. Do I need to wipe cache and data if I'm upgrading to cm7 rc4?

I did a flash over, didn't wipe anything. No problems as of yet.

Its usually a good idea to at least wipe cache and dalvik. Shouldn't have to worry about data unless you are having problems.

Wipe cache and advanced>dalvik. Then apply the CM.zip, then GApps, zip if you use those, and then any custom kernel that you use.
Doing a backup beforehand is always recommended

Same thing here, no problems yet.
Rule of thumb is to just wipe the cache/dalvik if your updating to the same ROM, just a new update. It's really only when your cross-flashing a different ROM where you need to do a wipe data/factory reset.
Alright guys so forgive me if this is a double post but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I've been looking into Nightly roms and I've found that I really like the concept. However, I've been flashing these Nightlies as if I've been flashing an entirely new Rom. What I mean is I've been doing full titanium backups then boot to cwm and wipe data factory reset and wipe dalvik and finally flash new nightly and reboot. I hate having to wait for titanium to reinstall all my apps and data though. I mean titanium is a neat idea but not as a nightly restorer as it just takes way too long. So I feel like I might be missing something but my general question here is can I get away without doing a full data wipe when moving to a new nightly? And will this ultimately save all of my apps and data? Thanks for any help guys

If it helps at all I'm using the warm z twopointtwo nightlies

If its same rom just an update, as in nightlies, u just wipe cache + dalvic. Full wipe not necessary. All ur data will b there. I never fully wipe unless it's a new Rom.

Cool thanks man. I've never wiped a cache before at all though....what's the point?

The problem with the camera I'm having is when I use it my EVO reboots. I'll open the camera app up and get ready to take a pic. As soon as I trigger the shutter it reboots. I did flash RLS1 over RC2 could that be the cause? Myn said it could be flashed over RC2 OK. I think I'll wipe tonight and do a fresh install of RLS1 and see if that fixes the problem. This is a FANTASTIC ROM!!!
I flashed RLS1 over RC2 and my camera works just fine. Try wiping cache and dalvik. If that doesn't work, try reflashing RLS1.
+1
Fresh synergy rc2 install with full wipe. Evo reboots after taking a few pictures. Picture before reboot doesnt save to sdcard

I wiped the cache and dalvik and that seems to have worked. I started the camera and took a pic with no re-booting.

Um.....yea ur supposed too
You should always full wipe, but at minimum dalvik cache and cache.
Even if it is the same updated rom (rc1 to rc2) you should still full wipe if you dont want issues.

Not sure if it's just me or the phone. I'm currently running RCMix3d Runny v4.0, which I love, it's great. But I wanted to try AOSP to get a more natural feel. I installed CM7, had problems connecting to network and tons of FC's. Went back to RCMix3d, for a few days, then decided to try MIUI. Looks smooth, nice features. Tried to change some settings (turn on BT, turn on unknown sources install), phone did a Hot boot, once it came up I get constant android.process.acore FCs.
Both times installing AOSP roms I did a format data/cache/dalvik, not just installing over RCMix3d. Even tried doing format x2 on all first.
Anyone else having similar problems, or could it just be something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Sorry, what do you mean format system? I'm doing from CWM, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe Dalvik Cache.
Unless you meet from the boot menu, doing a factory reset (which i'll need to reroot)

No, don't do that. In CWM, go to mounts and storage. You'll see format system, run that. Then wipe data/factory reset in the main CWM screen. Then install your AOSP ROM.

Well, I'm just an idiot. So I did the system format, still had same issues with MIUI.
Noticed that the issues start right after I restore from Titanium backup. Then realized I was hitting Restore System + Apps. Which going from Sense to AOSP, doesn't work so well.
Just reinstalled and only restored Apps. Working fine now.
Thanks for the help!
Sometimes the easiest things are the ones most overlooked!!! (been there done that.....way toooo many times..lol)
Glad ya got it going!
