Cm7 rc4 - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running cm7 rc3. Do I need to wipe cache and data if I'm upgrading to cm7 rc4?

I did a flash over, didn't wipe anything. No problems as of yet.

Its usually a good idea to at least wipe cache and dalvik. Shouldn't have to worry about data unless you are having problems.

Wipe cache and advanced>dalvik. Then apply the CM.zip, then GApps, zip if you use those, and then any custom kernel that you use.
Doing a backup beforehand is always recommended

Same thing here, no problems yet.

Rule of thumb is to just wipe the cache/dalvik if your updating to the same ROM, just a new update. It's really only when your cross-flashing a different ROM where you need to do a wipe data/factory reset.

Flashing roms without wipe

I'm running the 9/27 CM nightly but I don't want to have to wipe data and cache if I don't have to. I want to upgrade my current nightly Rom but I don't want to have to set up the phone again. Do I have to wipe to upgrade my nightly? Or is it safe to flash the new one over mine. I don't think it would really make a difference cause they are both cyanogenmod. Thanks!

I would recommend a full wipe before installing the Rom. Otherwise some things might not work properly. I installed the Skyraider vanilla Rom without doing a full wipe, and there were a bunch of things that didn't work properly. I did a full wipe and reinstalled the same rom, and everything works perfectly.

[Q] Upgrading to CM9 Alpha 5

I am on cm9 alpha 4 and i want to upgrade to alpha 5. I flash into cwm, wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash like always. Correct?
Read the install instructions on cm9 epic.blogspot... the developers say do not wipe anything if just updating between alpha versions... just flash alpha 5 and newest gapps version

There is some conflicting advice on the CM9 pages. Bottom line, it doesn't hurt to wipe cache and dalvik, I always do, but developers say it is not necessary when upgrading from one alpha to the next.
Happy Flashing!
i've gone both ways between many of the alphas, and never had an issue with no wipe updates, or wiping the caches..

Just like everyone suggested...no need for wiping anything. Just a flash to 5 will do just fine.
No need to wipe between Alphas but the CM Devs have also stated that wiping all data does get rid of factors such as apps force-closing (if any) its your personal preference. The world won't end if you don't wipe, I personally do.

I've done around 15+ updates between nightlies on CM7 and between alphas on CM9 without wiping any data and never had any problems for what its worth. Part of the beauty of the CM platform IMO.

[Q] Interference with mods?

Hello, as of now i am on the CDMA CM9 nightly ROMs. I have recently installed a mod that tweaks the notification bar, which can be found here. Since i have installed it do i have to do anything different when flashing the latest nightly? correct me if im wrong.
1. Make a nandroid backup
2. install zip from sd (do i need to wipe?)
3. chose the latest nightly
and after i install the latest nightly will i have to reflash my kernel and mod i previously installed?
Thanks in advance!
If you are installing a nightly on top of CM9 you should wipe both cache and dalvik cache before flashing.
And yes, you will have to re-flash any mods or kernels as well.

So if I flash a nightly on another nightly I have to wipe both the dalvik and normal cache? But I don't have to clear all user data, right?

No need to wipe data. You may need to flash gapps again after the rom flash though.

If I boot up without gaps I can always flash it by going back into clockwork right?

[Q] Flashing CM 9.1

OK, I know that you are supposed to wipe every time you flash a new rom. I am on CM9 Stable. I want to update to CM9.1. I think i need to wipe. But considering CM9.1 is an "update" I might not. So If I don't, then it'll save me so much time. But if I need to then OK. I don't want to have to wipe even though I didn't have to. So do I have to wipe when flashing to CM9.1 even though I'm on CM9?

No need to wipe, coming from Cm9 you're good to flash away. You will want to wipe cache/dalvik though afterwards if you get a boot loop.

I used twrp, factory reset, wipe system, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, flash 9.1, flash gapps. Prosper.

CM7 unstability fix..

No I don't have a fix...
So Im using cm7.2 kang and after 3 months of uses its not very stable anymore. As in it will be randomlly laggy and wont do what I tell it to.
Anyway I love CM7.2 so is there a way to make this stable again without a standard wipe and reflash.
Will wiping cache in CWR work? Will formatting system in CWR work?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Formatting the system will wipe the ROM, I would say clear the cache and see if that works.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I would try wiping just the Cache (and Dalvik Cache) from Clockwork. Like EVorhees said, don't wipe the system as you will have to re-flash the Rom.
