Hello, as of now i am on the CDMA CM9 nightly ROMs. I have recently installed a mod that tweaks the notification bar, which can be found here. Since i have installed it do i have to do anything different when flashing the latest nightly? correct me if im wrong.
1. Make a nandroid backup
2. install zip from sd (do i need to wipe?)
3. chose the latest nightly
and after i install the latest nightly will i have to reflash my kernel and mod i previously installed?
Thanks in advance!
If you are installing a nightly on top of CM9 you should wipe both cache and dalvik cache before flashing.
And yes, you will have to re-flash any mods or kernels as well.

So if I flash a nightly on another nightly I have to wipe both the dalvik and normal cache? But I don't have to clear all user data, right?

No need to wipe data. You may need to flash gapps again after the rom flash though.

If I boot up without gaps I can always flash it by going back into clockwork right?

I did a flash over, didn't wipe anything. No problems as of yet.

Its usually a good idea to at least wipe cache and dalvik. Shouldn't have to worry about data unless you are having problems.

Wipe cache and advanced>dalvik. Then apply the CM.zip, then GApps, zip if you use those, and then any custom kernel that you use.
Doing a backup beforehand is always recommended

Same thing here, no problems yet.
Rule of thumb is to just wipe the cache/dalvik if your updating to the same ROM, just a new update. It's really only when your cross-flashing a different ROM where you need to do a wipe data/factory reset.
I recently flashed cm7, works great. The only thing I'm having trouble is with the apps. I can't download the apps I had previously from the market because It says I have them installed already.
So how do I fix this/restore my apps?
thanks
Try and clear data for the market app and see if that works for you.
Erm, how exactly?
If you go into settings and then applications. Find market under all and click clear data.
Part of my problem is that I don't have the market app installed
Did you flash a Gapps package when you flashed your ROM? That will give you Market and other basic Google apps. I believe CM is packaged without an integrated Gapps loadout for legal reasons.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
No I didn't flash Gapps, I just installed market via apk, cleared the data but I can't use the market cause I cannot set up a profile that its asking for.
How would I go about this Gapps package?
There was no data to clear anyways.
About to try this
wipe data+cache
flash cm7
wipe data+cache
flash gapps
If you wiped system, cache, and dalvik cache before you installed CM7, you shouldn't even need to wipe. You'll just reboot into recovery and flash the Gapps .zip just like you flashed your ROM.
As far as finding it, I'd just Google "cm7 Google apps" or "cm7 gapps", you'll find a download link for the .zip. Keep in mind that, unlike the ROM itself, the Gapps package isn't specific to one model phone.

Which cm7 version are you using?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
In that case you might want to start from scratch:
Boot into recovery -- nandroid backup -- factory reset -- wipe dalvik cache -- install cm7 -- flash gapps.
And yeah, check to make sure you're using a current stable cm7 build.

What version of CM7 did you flash?
depending on the version of cm7, i would flash one of aero's kernals
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7717-kernel-aeroevan-vivow-kernels-for-aosp/
v8 needs to be for 7.2 otherwise, flash .7 version.
7.2 + Aero kernel .8 is an amazing combination. Do that!

This fixed it, thank you.
A thanks to everyone else also.
I flashed AOKP milestone 5, I was coming from M4. I backed up SMS, pics, music and synced to Google for contacts in anticipation that when I wipe/reset I'd lose everything...
Flashed m5 and gapps after wiping and when I rebooted Android started to upgrade them it said something about apps and went configuring apps 1/138 and so on until it was done.
I was booted back into exactly what I had before same settings, apps, music. I went to about screen and I'm on M5 and 4.04
Did something go wrong ? Should I of had to get all my stuff back? Did I do a dirty flash somehow?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you didn't wipe it properly if it is working good no need to now but if you have problems then you should wipe and reflash.

Any extra input on this? Shall I reflash, I've been going for a few hours now and haven't noticed any problems but I want to be on the safe side

Check the Android revolution thread for the super wipe zip. Flash that then re flash m5.

You are good. It was rebuilding dalvik cache from you wipe before the installation.
So any reason that when I wiped, it well, didn't wipe? I only did data/factory reset in the recovery menu.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
You didn't wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Factory/data wipe formats cache & data.
I wiped, cache, dalvik cache and data/factory reset then flashed AOKP M5 and Gapps again. When i got rebooted, its the same thing.. all my music is there, pics, sms, contacts, apps.
Why wont the phone let me wipe and install a rom fresh?
Is it because im already coming for aokp m4?
It is something to do with Clockwork mod?
Please help.
Try that super wipe lite zip mention earlier or go into the mounts section and format data, cache and system. Then wipe dalvik. Flash rom & gapps again.

i had this problem before when doing factory reset from cwm. i just use fastboot to flash stock 4.0.4 then use cwm to flash aokp.
1) wipe data/factory reset
2) wipe /system (if you don't wipe this partition it leaves settings and files from the previous rom that could prove problematic)
3) wipe dalvik
4) flash rom
5) flash gapps
if installing a kernel after wards
6) wipe dalvik (again)
7) flash kernel
The music and pics should matter unless your wiping the sd card in recovery the SMS should have been gone after a wipe though
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yeah the SMS is still there.. idk what to do its not like the phone doesn't work or anything but its weird that I can't wipe and start clean I'll prolly have to unroot/ lock the boot loader and start all over. If anyone else has any input, please share

I have CM10.1 installed, the M Snapshot build 20130121 and I want to flash the newest M Snapshot 20130304 onto my phone. Do I have to clear the cache and everything and then restore all of my apps via TiBackup or can I just go ahead and flash this new rom and go? I've looked in the search and nothing really helped with this...

You can clean flash. (Wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset and wipe system)
Most people dirty flash (wipe cache and dalvik)
Dirty flashing can potentially cause some small or large issues but not always. If dirty flashing leads to issues do not report anything without doing a full wipe and a fresh install.
Make sure you also download the latest gapps that came out after the first stable cm10.1 it's made specifically for 4.2.2

Since you're simply just flashing an update (not changing roms), you can flash the cm10.1 in recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache and reboot. This will not erase any apps or data. Always consider making a backup before flashing if you don't have an up-to-date one on your device. Cheers

Whenever you flash a rom, flash the appropriate gapps too
Hey guys so I'm pretty new to rooting and flashing roms and yesterday I flashed the Liquidsmooth rom onto my phone now there is an update and its not like CM where you can update through settings I was wondering how you would go about updating a rom. Thanks in advance.
Download it from the main thread, or maybe with goomanager, and flash it in recovery
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Are you supposed to factory restore or wipe cache? Do you just flash on top of previous rom?
Depends if the dev states a full wipe is needed.. If not then just wipe system, cache & dalvik, and flash
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the info you wouldn't happen to know if the Liquidsmooth rom requires cache or total wipe would you?
Just do a system wipe, if you have issues do a full wipe
