Phone calls last number when connected to headspeakers - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I am quite sure my problem is not ROM related, because it happens on my HTC DHD and also on my HD2.
Following happens when i listen to music over my headspeakers ( it also happens with all different kind of headsets, even when i have the phone connected to my car over aux ), the phone suddenly starts to call the last called person and it skips the songs randomly.
When I unplug it from aux or headspeakers it ok, until I replug it again.
I know there are quite a few people out there that have had or still have this problem.
Does anybody has a solution to that problem?
I hope, somebody can help me out there.

I had a similar problem but had a little crackle as well. I found that it got progressively worse with time as well. Thought it was just my stock headphones so did tests with other types and same problem so I figured it must be the socket. I was gonna buy some Bluetooth headphones but found that a clean restart sorted the problem. Turn off fast boot and turn off, leave it thirty seconds or so and boot up. it seems like it was something up do with cleaning out the temp files with a clean boot sorted it. Hope your problem sorted itself out the same way, if not then i'm all out of ideas and you need someone with a better knowledge of the system
Failing that try checking if there's some fluff in the headphone socket that may be causing a short of sorts

Funnily enough I was using earphones a few days ago when watching YouTube and my music kept starting and flicking through songs on its own. (I was also using WiFi.) I'd never experienced it before. It was like the phone was controlled by some remote source. It even continued after rebooting the phone and not even starting the music myself. After pulling out the headphones and quitting YouTube/ switching off Wifi it stopped doing it. It could be a bug or maybe simply the Evil Google is taking over.. Does anyone actually know why the OS is called `Android'?

It is a bug caused by using incompatible headphones. Headphones without a mic. Plug has 3 bands instead of 4. Try this free app from the market as it gets great reviews and supposedly stops the issue. "Headset Blocker"
Or use a set of headphones with a mic and 4 bands on the plug.

Thanks for this information. I hope this headset blocker will do the job.
But if not what kind of aux cable would I have to buy, for plugging my phone into my car system?

Pick up something like this. It is an adapter cable that adds a mic to an ordinary pair of headphones. This stops the short between the ground and the mic connection which seems to be giving MANY people issues.

I don't know if it is the port loosening up and the plug has static bounces between the ground and the mic connection or if it is just buggy software but this will fix it. Most electronic and cellphone stores should sell something like this.

to be honest i doubt if what you say is true because i´ve had the same problems with the stock headphones and same problems using my wifes sensation headphones( i know they´re both the same) so considering both have a microphone and are banded the same as your pic you posted that kinda makes the idea of it being incompatible kinda redundant. i´m not saying that your lying or anything but as a technical explanation of why there is a problem it leaves a lot to be desired from where i´m standing unless i´m the exception that proves the rule.
like i said for me just a cold restart did the trick and i´ve found people on forums elsewhere who solved the problem the exact same way.

A reboot doesn't fix the issue. Just stops it for now. Using the aux cable has stopped this issue for many. So has the app that I suggested. The only people that I knew that had this issue was using headphones without a mic and this has worked. And it could be a bug in the software. Music apps stay running in the background. So if you have different music apps installed this may cause your issue too. They may be interfering with each other. It is just suggestions to try. It all could be redunant. Rebooting is redundant as the issue will come back anyways.

that may be so but turning the phone on and off again costs a bit less and doesnt require a second cable to be connected between the phone and headphones
and again htc original headphones were the ones with the problem so i still dont see the type of headphones being the problem. seeing as how a complete reboot fixed the problem (maybe only temporarily, only time will tell) what that leads me to think is that its nothing more than a software conflict somewhere as the reboot cleans out the temp files somehow stopping the problem.

Been having this problem for months when connected via a normal 3.5mm jack in my car. It will call the last person, skip tracks and then open audiogalaxy. Thought it was the phone overheating or something to do with the socket. It all makes sense now, will try this app and report back after my next long drive if it works...

I've had a similar problem. To solve it, I did a small hardware hack to the 3.5mm socket of the phone.
I used some sugru silicone (sugru.com) to carefully cover up the first contact of the socket and it solved all my issues. It blocks out the headset commands (no more random calls during music playback) and also eliminated the static noise.
The hack is very easy to do and the sugru stuff can be removed again, so there's a minimum of risk involved.
Hope this helps

Ok so far. I downloaded this "Headset blocker" app from market and I have the feeling that it does its job.
Try it out yourselves and tell us your opinion.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App

headset blocker solved the problem for me, but just for a time...
since a month or sth, same problem again....
tried new clean boot of the phone reinstall of the app several times seems not to work anymore

got a bt stereo that works good

Ok so I took back my Motorola s9 because of skipping problems with mt T Mobile Wing & now ive got the perfect headset, Its a Insignia Ns-Bthdp paid $53.49 @ Best Buy.
Ok it charged in 3 hours ,paired up nice and re paired when I shut off the device with no problems. Its SUPER LOUD ...wow I couldnt believe how loud these things are ..but its not as clear as the s9's were, I think if I add the EQ to my phone, I can fix that.
On a call it had a small echo effect for the the other party but on my end the call is in stereo(yes). These sit on the ear not in it and wrap the neck like the s9's.
The controls will take some getting use to, it will beep when theres an incoming call so you can answer, and you can return the last call as well.
So wing lovers there you have it a cheap stereo bluetooth headset that wont SKIP and its loud, light, and did I say it dosen't (SKIP)...lol

Hi Evil:
Sorry to ask a stupid question, but you may be able to save me some research, for what I believe may be an easy question. I just got the headphones you mentioned. They are great.
I was able to easily pair them with my Tilt, but once I turned off, next time I went to use them, I turned on bluetooth, and nothing.
Is there some additional step I need to take to get them working?
Basically all I did was make sure the headphones were on, then turned on bluetooth on phone. Am I missing something?
Thanks!
PS: Please forgive my ignorance. I have never used a bluetooth device, and it doesn't explain anything beyond pairing in the manual for the headphones
I also have the Tilt (TyTN II), but have the i-Tech BlueBand R (which I love).
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but one annoyance with using this BT headset with my TyTN II is the need to go into the BT menu and manually activate the pairing every time, i.e., go to BT settings, turn on BT, go to Devices, long click on the i-Tech and choose "set as hands-free" and/or "set as wireless stereo."
Am I expecting too much? Or is this just that way BT stereo headsets work?

My HTC Touch Cruise and my Samsung SBH-170 connect automatically as soon as the headphones are turned on. Pressing play on the headphones starts my music only if either HTC Audiomanager or Windows Media Player are already running. My older Qtek 8310 (HTC Tornado) however would also start Windows Media Player on its own once I pressed play on the headphones.

Well, as it turns out, I had a defective headset. After exchanging it, it is no longer necessary to pair each time.
Regel, you are correct, it is VERY annoying to have to go in each time, and select "set as hands-free" and/or "set as wireless stereo."
Does anyone have a workaround for this, so that it will automatically use as stereo , and headset?

You are lucky that yours connects automatically, I sure wish mine did too. Those are very nice looking headphones! Better looking than my new Insignias, but the Insignias were cheap, and I'm broke
Thanks!
EDIT: Sonus: You were right! If I turn on music and bluetooth BEFORE turning on headset, it does automatically connect. Thanks for the tip!

I'm happy it worked out, I usually keep bluetooth on all the time, as battery drain is very minimal. As long as the bluetooth is already on before you turn on your headset, you can turn the music player on at any time you want without any issues.
Thanks, I actually had first bought the headset over a year ago for $100, but someone stole them a few months back, and I was able to get a set on eBay for like $16 plus shipping...so the moral is that they can be bought cheap if you're really interested in a pair.
Hi!
I am in the market for a set of stereo BT headphones for the gym, S9 seems to get lots of bad reviews..especially for getting them wet which is a problem as I sweat like hog in a blast-furnace...any luck with any of the sets you have actually being sweat-resistant and not interfering with running/lifting? TIA!!

All bluetooth headphones I have used, have automatically connected as hands free, but there is nothing to show this on the phone; just the flashing on the headphones shows it is connected.
Then pressing play on the headphones starts wireless stereo, and the headphone symbol appears on the screen, and the headphones make the little beep tone.

[Q] Headphone-Problems on Miui

At first I want to apologize if someone already asked this question but I haven't found any Thread with this problem.
I have been using Miui now and then and never really had problems with my headphones. At least no problems I could not resolve with "Headset Blocker".
But for the last 3 weeks or so every Miui rom I try (wheter original or optimized by the cookers here on XDA) has this headphone Problem.
It feels as if the DHD recognizes the Headphones as Headset and jumps through the music. This happens sometimes on Cm7 or Sense-roms too but could always be solved with "Headset Blocker".
It's just jumping through the tracks but no calling any numbers or something.
Anybody with the same Problem or a Solution ?
Tom
Headphones are incompatable. A set without a mic has 3 connections on the plug. The larger band grounds out 2 connections on the phone and causes this. You need headphones with 4 connections. This is not an mp3 player. It is a phone. So in fact you do need a headset and not just headphones.
Thanks for the answer.
I think the Dhd is not just a phone but a multimedia-tool and as this it should work with normal headphones too.
Sense-, cm7 and previous miui Roms did also work with them so why did they suddenly decide to only support headsets ?
I played a bit with the phone and the music seems to work if it's lying on the back and not moving or held in front of you. But its skipping tracks if i turn it clock- or counterclockwise or rotate it back or forth.
Any idea why?
It is because your headphone jack with the longer contact is bridging together 2 contacts. When the phone is bumped or moved, it moves the jack just enough and the connection bounces (a quick on and off and so on) so the phone thinks you are pressing the button like on the original headphones. Look at the pics and you will see what I mean.

Now you see what I mean about the longer contact that will bridge 2 connections together. This is not a good thing. Shorting together 2 pins that are not supposed to be connected is NEVER a good thing. If you want to use your current headphones then I suggest picking up something like this.
It also depends on the music app you are using. A different music app that does not have remote control (pause, skip tracks) may not have these issues.
Of you knew anything about Electrics you would know that by grounding something you aren't "shorting "it and its a phone problem not a headset problem, I have noticed this aswell so you are not the only one

Thank you Agoattamer. I think I can follow you and it seems reasonable.
But do you know why this don't happen at Sense or cm7 Roms but at the Miui ones? This is the point I don't get. If the Headphones were the reason shouldn't it happen everywhere?

Maybe you need to learn something about electronics before you open your mouth and contradict someone who does. Above I did say "grounding" and should have said "shorting". Better choice of words. But in fact that is what you are doing as that one connector is a ground so you are grounding the mic connector. It is NOT a phone problem, it is an incompatable headphone issue. And it is "electronics" and not "electrics". I have a degree in electronics. Do you? So shows much of your intelligence.
So you would say shorting? No its grounding the connection, and no that wouldn't make it skip track as the Mic would just be registered as not there, unless something has changed in recent year's that means a ground connection is active
Ignore me I just realised I'm a tway and appologise I forgot it had buttons on a headset

It does happen with sense ROMS FYI. It depends on the music app you are using. If the app has remote control using the stock HTC headphones like the stock HTC app it will do it. Most people notice it that when they first plug the earbuds in the music app will start automatically. Some music apps do not have remote control and you will not notice it. Also as your jack on the phone loosens up it will allow the 3.5 plug to move a little more causing this bounce.

Dude why don't you listen for once instead of speaking of something you know nothing about. It has always been this way. It is the mic control that causes the skipping of tracks. It is designed that way. When the mic goes to ground it causes the track to advance to the next song in some music apps. In other music apps it causes the music to pause and unpause or even activate the music app. And some apps that do not have remote control it has no effect. Even the iphone uses the same type of headphones.
Edit: I see your response and now know you understand. Not sure what a tway is but that is good enough for me. lol. Still good info for others to understand what is happening.

Smartphones are designed so when the Mic/control pin and ground pin are shorted, it knows that a headphone has been connected and not a headset. Fudge with the headphone not plugged in all the way and on cm7 you'll see the icon go from headphones to a headset. Those pins are MENT to be connected when headphones are plugged in as part of the phones detection system. That's why I can talk on my phone using the phones mic when headphones are in. If my phone always assumed headsets were in then the phone would automatically turn off the onboard mic expecting the headphones to have one. I may not have the same phone but I use my Evo every single night as an mp3 player and it doesn't cause problems unless my headphone comes out of the Jack. It occasionally will skip a track if it bumps it funny when its part way out.
Tl;Dr the mic pin is designed as a detection pin as well so the phone knows if it has standard headphones or a headset plugged in and having normal headphones plugged in won't mess anything up. Phones are designed with users using standard headphones in mind

Very correct. But a looser jack will cause the bouncing which causes the OP's issue. If the jack was nice and tight and you were careful to not move it much then you would experience no ill effects. Did not know about the detecting part. Thanks for the added info. We all learn something every day.
Thx guys that was really interesting.
I will try different music apps and hopefully the miui app doesn't interfere with them
Or is there a way to block the remote control of the standart music app? Then it should work too or am I wrong?
Anything is possible. You may have to decompile the app and look there. Or it could be elsewhere. Would be much easier getting an adapter or another set of earbuds with the correct connector.
There is a option to disable headset buttons and response, I can't remember where on miui, I use poweramp and there is a option in there to disable all headset functions

Is skype really supported for calls now? On which ROM? When i tried to call last time it disconnected immediately after call was accepted no matter calling from KF to other device or vice versa.
I don't believe anyone has actually gotten it to fully work (by that, I mean communicate in both directions) with Skype as yet.
I got voice search using the gingerbread miui rom. You just have to find the right g apps package to flash

I just bought the headset buddy (sorry, can't post links) to use with my headphones & mic, but the mic doesn't work with any recording apps I've tried, including ones that are reputed to work on the KF with this setup. (Tape-a-talk, hi q mp3 recorder, etc.)
It's possible my mic is not compatible. It's mono, with a regular 1/8" jack. It fits the adapter just fine, though, and the headphones do work, so I don't know why the mic wouldn't.
I wonder if this setup is incompatible with the ROM I'm using, which is Hellfire Kindle Sandwich. Have any other HFKS users gotten an external mic to work with recording applications?

If it doesn't have a TRRS plug (with four connectors), it's probably the mic that's the problem.

Thanks for the diagram. The headset buddy is indeed a TRRS connector. The mic I'm trying to use, however is a mono mic with a TRS connection. I bet that's the problem. Since it's mono, I'd expect the jack to be TS, not TRS. Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll try getting my hands on some other gear to try out with it.
Can anyone confirm that the mic input works on ICS (specifically Gederom 0.6)? I bought a small button mic meant for older iPods with the appropriate TRRS connector, but can't get the Fire to recognize it or any input from it. I've tried Voice Search, a couple of voice recording apps, and Shazam (which seems to be working for pretty much everyone).
I'm wondering if I have a defective mic (not too surprising considering it's a pretty cheap one from Hong Kong or something), or if this doesn't work in ICS or something. I'm trying to find another device to test the mic on, but haven't had any luck getting my hands on one.
In researching the pin-outs, it appears that the iPhone and HTC type Microphone/Headsets have opposite pinouts on the ground and microphone. I'm betting that the grounded mic input is what causes the disconnect. You can't use an iPhone headset/Mic with a Kindle Fire.

Android 10: did they fix no notification sound through speaker with BT media device?

I'm hesitating to update to A10, since most modules in Good Lock are not supported there. However the most annoying thing Samsung introduced in S10 is removing LED light AND audible notifications through speaker when a BT media device is connected, which was inherited by N10. This is the most retarded thing they ever did.
So the question is, did they bring back audio notifications though speaker when BT media device (headphones, car) is connected?
I can confirm that they didn't. By far 1 of the dumbest decisions ever by Samsung.
Man I'm glad others think this was a horrible thing. I mentioned it elsewhere and peeps jumped on me like I was a fool for bringing it up
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
It's actually not exactly Samsung's issue, it's Android 9/10 "feature", but nonetheless, whoever though it was a good idea without giving an option is an idiot.

I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but I can tell you that I have the Note 10+ with Android 9 and I get all sound notifications when the phone is bluetooth connected to a bluetooth speaker or my car infotainment system or bluetooth earphones.

You can listen music through BT device and receive audio notifications for different apps through phone's speaker at the same time???

No, that's not what I said. But after having used 4 different Notes (2, 4, 8 & 10+) I can tell that none of them had the feature you are talking about (sound output through speaker and bluetooth device in the same time, if I understood corectly). All my phones where international versions.

It seems you don't understand the question...
I've had Note 3, 7 and S7Edge and before Android 9 came along the notification sounds were always played through speaker AND wired/wireless headphones (or other connected BT device) at the same time. Since Android 9 notification sounds only play through connected device, NOT through speaker, unless nothing is connected.

Not true. Prior to Android 9 you could definitely get audible notifications through your bluetooth and phone speakers simultaneously.
I really don't know who had that brilliant idea but for sure was an idiot. And the most incredible is that we see a lot of people complaining and they don't solve this.
I DO NOT get this post. someone tell me please what you guys are trying to do?
So when I connect my phone via Bluetooth to my headphones/car/home
and say get messages, or new uploaded songs from SoundCloud
I hear an audible notification that plays over my current media playback
is that what is not happening to you guys?

That's exactly what happens now.
Before Android 9, that notification would SIMULTANEOUSLY play through speaker AND current media playback device.
The problem is that just because your headphones are connected to the phone doesn't mean they are in your ears, or if your phone is connected to the car, doesn't mean you are inside the car.
So to be clear... This fubar bluetooth/phone speaker situation, was/is not rectified in the android 10 update? No way of changing notification audio channels?
Well, I think it depends on the device and what you want it to do. For example, on my home devices, most of them, no I can't, add there's no option. But in my car, it gives me the option to both use the phone and audio with bluetooth, but I disconnected notifications, so I hear the dings on my phone.
I think from this, it's more of the device your connecting to, and whether it will have the options in the bluetooth settings. That's just my guess from what my car allows me to do, and how I set it up.
its working with the star wars special edition themed rom. scared me in the car while connected BT and Android auto
I know this is an old post but it's one of the first ones I found when googling this issue. Just in case someone else finds it when looking this up I wanted to post a fix for it.
If you download the SoundAssistant app (got it from the galaxy store) you can go to advanced settings, and there is an option for "Alerts through headphones." You have the option of choosing whether ringtones, alarms, and/or notifications are played through headphones.
This issue has been fixed. I just tried the fix and it worked perfectly.

General Bluetooth is completely broken

So... yeah, bluetooth in pixel pro is completely and utterly useless. I mean it can probably work if you only have one pair of headphones, but if you have more devices you use daily you will get problems. And lots of reboots.
So first scenario - You listen on your headphones, get in your car. It switches beautifully. Well it does take about a minute, while on my OnePlus 6t it was a matter of seconds, but at least it works. Not so much with phone calls. It will just lose the audio completely and you will have to switch back to speaker and then back to whatever device you want to listen on to get it back. Which may or may not work. Reboot.
Also, my phone, whatsapp, messenger and viber calls will randomly lose audio after about 2 - 3 minutes on BT. switch back to speaker and perhaps you will be able to reconnect to your headphones. Perhaps not. Reboot.
Today I lost audio completely after switching to my car. It was working fine at work, then I went to the car park, got in the car, wanted to listen to my book, no sound. Spotify? No sound. OK, connected my headphones. No sound. Connected android auto. Yay, we have sound. Got out of the car, wanted to listen on my headphones (oneplus btw), no joy. Reboot.
If you have a device that is paired and is on, it will switch to that. Which is fine, but you can't choose on which device to play from the volume menu like on oneplus. That's ok too, everything is retarded compared to oxygenos. Fine. So you disconnect the device manually. Haha no, f you. It will forcefully reconnect just to f... with you.
Because of all this retarded crap I absolutely hate this phone. I hate it. I have to reboot it at lest 10-15 times a day. That's Windows Millenium bad. That is completely unacceptable. I am honestly thinking about returning it.
Oh by the way, my fingerprint sensor works awesome. It is SO much better than the op6t one. Still utterly inferior to any rear mounted one I ever used and I do not understand why on earth did we get rid of those ones, clearly in a better place and 10000000 times faster. But still, fine.
The lack of the face unlock is the pinnacle of stupidity though. Especially to anyone coming from OxygenOS. I seriously only used my fingerprint to confirm purchases on op6t. Which truthfully never worked and I had to enter the pin always anyway, but that's besides the point.
I WANT FACE UNLOCK!
Oh yeah, that was completely off topic.
I WANT BT FIXED!
Hmmm. I have the complete opposite experience. Sorry to hear that. I don't know what it is, but I absolutely love this frigging phone. I haven't been excited about phones in years. This one does it for me. I don't use Bluetooth ever, except in the car via Android Auto, and it works fine for me. Bluetooth in general is a **** technology IMO, so of course sometimes phone audio doesn't work right. No issues here. Music/Spotify works fine. I would never use face unlock, so not an issue for me. Never have to reboot either. Not sure what that's about. Also, windows ME was great! LOL. Not as good as XP though. Anyhow, don't know what to tell you. Maybe return it.
EDIT: maybe try clearing WiFi, Bluetooth, etc history in the settings and start over.

Did that a million times when tried to connect to my stratos watch. Unfortunately that did not work either. BT is completely broken as I say.
Try clearing the system cache.
As js042507 said, try a network reset.
Try a hard reboot (simulates pulling battery).
Disable all power management as this can cause erratic behavior.
Try in safe mode if possible to rule out 3rd party apps as the cause.
I have three different sets of buds, a bluetooth speaker, my car, and two watches and I have no bluetooth issues at all. When I start the car, it only takes a couple seconds for the phone to switch from my buds to the car. I have not had to reboot my phone a single time. I haven't experienced any of what you described. It sounds like you might need to exchange the phone. Perhaps you have a bad bluetooth module. It's also worth noting, I am now using my 256gb, and was using a 128gb before that. Neither one had the issues you described.
Mine refuses to connect cleanly to one of my cars. It's paired fine, but the only process I can make work is
Phone:
double swipe down / settings / connected devices
select my car from "previously paired deviced"
get error message
Car:
Phone menu / find phone / select Pixel 6
error message flashed briefly on phone screen - something about SIM access
Phone:
select my car from "previously paired device"
get error message
select gear icon
select disconnect
select connect
Boom, easy as pie!!!!
I have yet to find a way to make it just work. My previous phone worked seamlessly with this car.

Apart from what I stated previously you can try clearing the sim toolkit data. It will rebuild it's self. Sometimes this will resolve connection issues.
Google play Services tends to always have it's finger in the pie, try clearing it's data.
Check through all of the Google account settings as well... there are many. Some may apply.

But all of that should not be necessary. We are not at android 0.3. It's android 12 for god's sake and it works well on pretty much any other device. This is just such an amateur screwup, come on. Ridiculous.
My Bluetooth hasn't been nearly as bad but it hasn't been totally perfect. I've had a similar disconnect issue where it's connected to my Bluetooth DAC but no sound happens. I end up using the quick toggle to go to phone speaker then back and all is good. My cars have been fine with music and GPS but I haven't taken a call yet and I hear disconnects are common during or after a call.

Bluetooth may be broken in your device but it isn't broken in the phone in general. Mine works flawlessly.
Having ten reboots a day obviously isn't normal so either return it, get it fixed or get rid of the phone you hate so much.
Mine works fine with Galaxy watch and galaxy buds+. No issues at all.
But I have problem with connection to my Volkswagen car. It connects fine, but I can't make it to connect for audio only. I don't need the phone part connected, only audio but it only connects automatically if audio with phone are engaged.
In another car it won't automatically connect to Anker Soundsync. Every time I have to dive into bluetooth settings and connect it from there.
I had none of these problems with Samsung S21 Ultra.
As far as the car audio is concerned mine works with the iDrive unit in my 3 series perfectly. It has trouble (not near what you describe but definitely not as flawless) in my Cooper S with a year older iDrive than the 3 has. I think if anything it might be firmware differences with the vehicles in my case. Maybe ensure your cars firmware is up to date if updateable? It may be worth checking out but of course it doesn't explain your other issues.
I always have it paired to a Galaxy Watch 3 with no problems and Galaxy buds on and off throughout the day.
Like others have said though if I was having that many issues you bet I'd be returning/exchanging it.

Could be a mobo failure or a bad batch of mobos the wasn't detected.
During production runs components including smaller chipsets may be substituted. This can lead to unexpected deviations in performance and/or functionality not easy to detect.
There are millions of semiconductor junctions in a mobo... ever wonder what happens when one or a few are defective?
There may be no easy fix except to return it...
