Ok FINE! After being ignored for two days, I thought I would help the New folks out here get this working!
I got it working and all is FINE! Here is what I did. I will not post links so I do not violate any sort of TOS in this site.
After I upgraded to the new ROM from HTC's site (the official ATT ROM not anything cooked) I upgraded my Activesync to 4.5 (must have this version)
Then I downloaded BBC Desktop 4.0.0.18 (google it)
Then I downloaded BBC for the PPC 4.0.0.91 (google it)
Install the Desktop stuff first then the one on the PPC. Once installed, REMOVE THE USB.
Once it is installed on the PPC, let it is come up on it's own. If it does not reboot it, go to Start -> Setting and click on the System tab. Click the BB icon. It will ask what services, select Cal for now. Click Next through until is restarts. It will then tell you that it is ready for first use. From there, you may need to reboot your device.
You should now have the BB icon in the bottom part of the Today screen. Click it. It will take you the BB settings sections. Let it spool and get a PIN. This may take several minutes. You will then notice it connects and gets an IP. You are almost home at this point. Once it says Connected in the Status tab you are good to connect it back to the USB cord.
For BES applications, make sure the computer you use for work is connected to your MS Server or network or whatever you do to ensure you are getting emails on your work computer. This will ensure your BB Desktop software can "see" your server. Once you know you have "LAN" connection, open the BBC Desktop software and let it find your device. Click on the "Configure Device" button on the bottom center of the BBC Desktop app and VIOLA!
I hope this helps!
I am not able to find BBC Desktop 4.0.0.18 version even after googling , just to make sure is it 4.0.0.18 or 4.0.0.84. Is this desktop component mandatory , can i skip it . I am new to all this. My company gave me a number to call to activate the service . It was a sort of *56436 ;just an example. But i cant call this number as i have AT&T service , it says check the number.May be this number is callabe from a blackberry device ? Please let me know if you are aware what setup they have.
I have At&T unlimited data plan . Do i need to switch to BIS plan from them .Is 3G internet available on BIS. My company asked me to add my company email (and provided me with a temporary password) and asked me to click on activate button . does this mean they have Black berry Enterprise server ?
The BB network is available on my phone but the PIN and IP are pending. Is this due to taht i dont have BIS enabled from them?
First of all thank you guys for such a great apps environment you created for our lazy WM platform.
Second of all I hope I am posting my request in the right place. Could someone start developing an application similar in functions with AirVideo for iphone. Its a basic app with a server(PC) - client(device) side that allows you to play on the phone any video stored on the PC (and any other storage media connected to the PC) without having to actually transfer the video on the device itself.
For more info please check : http://www.inmethod.com/air-video/index.html
It would be amazing if someone could achieve this. I would gladlly pay for such an app as I oftenly like to review my video courses I have stored on my PC from the convenience of my phone.
PS: I gave up the iphone platform 6 months ago and I am so much happier with my HD2.

Try orb. i use it on my HD2 and it works great. There's no need for a client app either! Just a browser (built in IE will do).
10x for the suggestion, I wasn't aware of this software.
Does it provide access to my content through my wireless router (under a local connection - PC and phone using the same WIFI) or do I have to stream everything through my broadband and their online servers?
All you need for airvideo is that the phone and the pc are connected to the same WIFI. All the streaming is done using the local connection which is good for privacy and there is also the option to convert a video file on the fly.
This sort of functionality I would like on the windows mobile platform if a developer would like to give it a go.

Orb basically turns your PC into a media server. You just use whatever means you want to connect to your PC. I have a use one of those services that gives your PC a name, and I just connect to it via that, so I can do it via my internet connection if I want to, or connect via wifi and use the local IP address (192.168.x.x) to connect that way, but I don't tend to do that much, as I'm obviously in range of my PC if I'm in range of the router
Orb gives you access to specified folders on your PC, and all the media within them. It does images, video and music, so it really is a great addition to any device.
Currently, I download podcasts on vista desktop. I then synced it with the phone. Can you do the same from phone, bypassing download to vista?
BTW, the zune application that is on the phone, is that only a player and to download podcasts I need full blown zune software?
Thanks
Good question. I hadn't considered looking for that until you just asked, but I don't see any way to download podcasts from within the app. It works great with the Zune client on PC though, and the software blows iTunes away.
I haven't tried this but I see no reason why you couldn't subscribe to a podcast via an RSS reader or manually download them via the mobile browser.

Correct. I've been using a Zune HD (I'm in the UK) and on the Zune software from the Podcast section in the Collection you can manually enter RSS feeds or download individual episodes.
I would think it's the same for WP7.
No reason you can't you an RSS reader like yomomedia can't downloadthose for you but Zune really is the way to go with WiFi syncing them automatically.
So there is no way to add a new podcast and update the podcast directly from the phone??
This is totally absurd.

yomomedia can directly download any podcast you subscribe to automatically. I just choose to use zune since I don't need them immediately as they are available.

Actually I really love the Zune part and the OS interface.
But some missing features are really boring. But I'm sure MS will add them soon.
not so quick
You can set up a wireless sync with your wifi at home. The phone will use your wireless connection between your computer and phone to sync whatever podcasts you are subscribed to. Syncing begins after you have your phone plugged in for 10 minutes. I agree that a file manager would be helpful, but that may have to wait until the phone is cracked. In the meantime there is a ton of software available and its only going to get better.

that is a very nice feature, now if only I would leave my phone in standby for 10 minutes...

Usually people mainly need their podcasts (and the updates) when they are outside. Not when they are home.
This is why I think the necessity to sync with Zune is kind of absurd regarding podcasts.
This shall be done directly from the phone, as usual.
I usually sync my podcasts to my Zune before going to bed then I'm all set. Never felt the need to update outside .
Anyone have any experience with this?
From what I've read, if an app is over 20mb it will not download using the cellular data service and instead insist you use wifi, or plug in to the PC.
But what do you do when you do not have WiFi available? It says 'Connect to a Wi-Fi network or connect your phone to your PC to complete the download' - but it does nothing when it's plugged in to the computer. Can leave it plugged in to the PC, with it synced to Zune (or not) for 30 minutes and nothing happens to the download, even if it's initiated in Zune.
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something I'm supposed to tell it to do when it's plugged in to the PC? When it's synced with Zune you can't access the marketplace on the phone, and there's no 'Download Status' in Zune. As far as I can tell, Zune's not trying to download the app.
Basically, I'm trying to use option B - 'or connect to a PC', as there is no Wi-Fi network at my home or for miles. I'm aware of the bug where you can start it on Wi-Fi and let if finish using cellular data, but I shouldn't have to drive 20 minutes to Starbucks every time I want to download a larger app when the error message even indicates there's another option.
Any Zune / WP7 gurus here that can help with this? I'm an Android guy and a little lost when it comes to Zune/WP7, it's my gf's phone
I think you just have to go to the item, long press to get to the context menu, and then hit retry. I don't think it automatically attempts again once the network connection changes.

Done that. With these large apps (over 20mb) it repeatedly does the same thing. It's got 3g the whole time - it just refuses to use it to download it using 3g. It will say pending for a moment when you hit retry, and then give that error until you connect it to WiFi, at which point you can retry and it will download. So far the only way I've successfully downloaded apps of this type (monopoly, need for speed, etc) is using a wi-fi connection at a public location.
I'm trying to figure out how to do it the other way the error message claims is possible - connecting it to a PC.
Yeah, I just spent some time trying it out with my wifi off. Doesn't seem to be cooperating...
May want to try the Windows Phone support Twitter tomorrow: http://twitter.com/#!/winphonesupport
There has to be a way, it would be pretty damn ridiculous if it actually required wifi.

Tweeted it just now w/ a link to this thread. But I'm not a twitter guy, I have an account, not really sure how it works and don't ever log in to it. So we'll see where that leads me.

If you dont hear anything from them, may want to try tomorrow during business hours.
You should be able to go into the marketplace via Zune and click on the app. Click to install and then it will instruct you to connect your device. It should download and install to the device. Give it ample time to do so as it's not immediate, of course.
At this time, Wifi is required to download apps bigger than 20MB.
I could never ever get an app to update via synching with the Zune software after many tries. I just had to do the download over Wifi.
What I got from my conversation from @WinPhoneSupport is that if you start the download on the phone (not through the Zune software on your computer), you MUST complete it using WiFi, even though the error message says 'or connect it to a PC'. They somewhat hinted that it's possible to download an app through the zune software on the PC, didn't really go into too much on that side of things, but also confirmed that there's no way to check the status of a download in the Zune software. Sooo, you're supposed to just plug in the phone, and blindly guess when the download is complete, and if you're wrong, you've got to go find a Wi-Fi network.
One thing you could try... no promises... but (at least on Zune HD) when you connect the device to your PC via a USB cable (but close the Zune software) the device will get an Internet connection from the PC. This is done via some USB standard whose name I can't remember. It only works if the Zune software is closed.
This might work on WP7 and give you phone an Internet connection via USB. You could then go to the downloads list on your phone, tap and hold on the download that's frozen, cancel it. And then search it again and try to download.

I tried that but when I closed Zune it started looking for drivers and couldn't find any. No clue where to download them. Windows 7 32bit.
With your phone connected to your PC, search for the app thru the Zune marketplace (on the PC). When you download it with the PC, it will go straight to your phone.
Tried that as well but since theres no download status theres no way to tell when the app Is finished/installed, no.way to tell how large the file is and if it is downloading at 2kbps or 250kbps,.so you've got to blindly guess when its done and lf youre wrong and disconnect it you've got to start all over.
Tried downloading the monopoly trial using that method on a pc w a 20mbps connection, no way to tell if it was even downloading, it just said it would appear on the phone shortly. After 20 min the phone was disconnected, checked the marketplace and monopoly was sitting there in downloads w the error message
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
yea im having trouble downloading Sims 3. I have the same problem. I thought I was the only person.
If your like me you've been looking for a way to get a zune pass in Australia
Well here you go:
http://techin5.com/2011/05/how-to-buy-music-and-get-the-zune-pass-in-australia/2/
You will need a computer, a credit or debit card and a xbox.
I had to buy a zune pass via my xbox which meant buying xbox live for a month which set up auto renewal. I recommend setting your address of your new live account to one in Illinois. They have a law that requires you to be able to turn off auto renewal of xbox live online instead of calling them up
I had to reset my phone and change my locale in order to get the zune music market on my phone but you should be able to sync it from your zune software as well

I've done this before, though it never lasted a day on me because i already bought apps using my NZ live id including my games, so i had to revert back to my backup.
Advantages of this method are Zune Pass + US Marketplace, Bing Audio, Bing Vision DVD and CD covers scan. Cons are Bing Local Scout not working, even if its available, USD currency so you must need a credit/debit card (some credit/debit cards charge for currency conversion).
If you're a new windows phone user, then you're better off with this method if you want to have US features, otherwise you only get the features supported depending on your country.
Couldnt agree more. Im going to go back to my old account with my apps but keep the zune pass for my computer

lol yeah, my computer has zune pass and marketplace, whereas my phone doesnt. Microsoft should really make their services worldwide, not just US.
I've been on USA from the start. My xbox account has been on USA for the start as well (well over 2 years). Meaning everything is set to usa for me. Running Mango right now, and Zune pass on phone works like a breeze still, and games are about the same price as usa (with FX). So I'm sticking with it of course.
I was running with the US account but I used a lot my data downloading music in class plus i wanted my apps back. Back to australian mango for me
If you just want it for your computer, check out rdio.com - they are half the price and don't check credit card address
