Currently, I download podcasts on vista desktop. I then synced it with the phone. Can you do the same from phone, bypassing download to vista?
BTW, the zune application that is on the phone, is that only a player and to download podcasts I need full blown zune software?
Thanks
Good question. I hadn't considered looking for that until you just asked, but I don't see any way to download podcasts from within the app. It works great with the Zune client on PC though, and the software blows iTunes away.
I haven't tried this but I see no reason why you couldn't subscribe to a podcast via an RSS reader or manually download them via the mobile browser.

Correct. I've been using a Zune HD (I'm in the UK) and on the Zune software from the Podcast section in the Collection you can manually enter RSS feeds or download individual episodes.
I would think it's the same for WP7.
No reason you can't you an RSS reader like yomomedia can't downloadthose for you but Zune really is the way to go with WiFi syncing them automatically.
So there is no way to add a new podcast and update the podcast directly from the phone??
This is totally absurd.

yomomedia can directly download any podcast you subscribe to automatically. I just choose to use zune since I don't need them immediately as they are available.

Actually I really love the Zune part and the OS interface.
But some missing features are really boring. But I'm sure MS will add them soon.
not so quick
You can set up a wireless sync with your wifi at home. The phone will use your wireless connection between your computer and phone to sync whatever podcasts you are subscribed to. Syncing begins after you have your phone plugged in for 10 minutes. I agree that a file manager would be helpful, but that may have to wait until the phone is cracked. In the meantime there is a ton of software available and its only going to get better.

Usually people mainly need their podcasts (and the updates) when they are outside. Not when they are home.
This is why I think the necessity to sync with Zune is kind of absurd regarding podcasts.
This shall be done directly from the phone, as usual.
I usually sync my podcasts to my Zune before going to bed then I'm all set. Never felt the need to update outside .

A typical use of HTC Streaming Media Player would be: e.g. you're browsing through www.youtube.com (or redirected to m.youtube.com) with PIE. When you click on any video image icon there, PIE will automatically start SMP, and you will be able to watch the selected video file on its window, without the need to download it to your mobile device. You could watch it fullscreen too.
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers!

I don't now if this tread is dead, but I will post anyway.
I use the rtsp:// for connecting to live streaming cameras.
I have one at my house that will email me if someone rings the door bell or the alarm goes off.
I can then connect to the camera thru a web browser if i'm at my computer, and talk to them thru the camera. If i'm out and about i can stream to the camera with my htc. I can even here what they are saying if there talking. THe camera i'm using is a VIVOTEK IP7151, http://www.vivotek.com/products/cameras/network_camera_ip7151.html
THere is a link for a live demo. If you connect with your phone the link would be rtsp://60.248.39.146/live.sdp or
rtsp://60.248.39.151/live.sdp or
rtsp://60.248.38.147/live.sdp
Sometimes there on, you might have to connect 2 or 3 times.
I've never managed to get anything from Youtube to work on it. Maybe it's a O2 thing.

I'm looking for an App that I can use that will sync all the music that is on my PC onto my EVO. I haven't been able to find anything yet. All of the ones that I have found you have to hook up your phone to your computer.
I'm looking for one that is similar to Dropbox except for music...where I can just drag and drop music and have it air sync to my Droid.
Also, what is a good music syncing app that I have to hook my phone to my computer to sync?
Thanks!!
Why do you need a syncing app? Just drag and drop your files, it's way easier than using any app.
As for OTA syncing- look into doubletwist, pretty sure I read something somewhere sometime that they were implementing OTA syncing.
I use winamp.
I've heard mSpot will do that from the market, however I haven't messed with it much, so you'll have to look for yourself.
isyncr is pretty good. Even has a wireless plugin.
I like Winamp Wifi Sync and USB Sync. OTA would take forever IMO.
Subsonic is the absolute bomb. You don't need to "sync" your music. You just play whatever you want from your collection. It can cache as much as you want to keep locally, but it's all available. You need to have a PC that's always on and always connected, but if you do, it's a great option. No cloud storage to pay for or be limited by. Just your home collection streamed directly to your phone.
I have a 100GB collection of over 16000 songs. I've stuck with my iPod classic because I never have to choose what to take with me. I'm not sure I'm going to totally give up the iPod. But the iPod was always something extra to carry around, whereas my phone is always with me. With a 32GB card, I can have a good selection of my music ready to go for offline listening, but the entire collection available as long as I've got a data connection.
The Android app could use a little more UI refinement, but it works. You can also play any music that's been cached using the app of your choice. After a 30 day trial, you do have to donate to continue using it. It's kind of a weird model...it's open source and he advertises it as "free," which it is if you just want to use it in a browser. But you have to register, or "donate" to use certain features, including the Android client. Suggested donations are 10 Euros, or around $14. You can even manually send a smaller amount.
Audiogalaxy is a similar option, though it doesn't appear to let you download songs and cache them locally, so you're out of luck when offline. I also thought Google was supposed to be creating their own similar program back when Froyo was announced, but it doesn't seem anything has come yet.
I use Mediamonkey which requires a computer connection but does do a true sync function. It is great for finding Album Art and great for insuring it gets to the sd card if that is important to you. I use the stock music player on the EVO which I find does a good job for me.
What syncing software comes with this galaxy nexus ?

Like most android phones it will most likely be drag and drop. But if you want to sync your music their are some great options you can use double twist, or you can use winamp (which has free wifi syncing) and who knows how many others. Your phone as always will be sync with google services calender, gmail, etc.
Umm USB Mass Storage?
When does an Android come with Syncing software?
Unless by Galaxy Nexus you mean iPhone and my sync software out mean iTunes.

Nexus phones usually don't have that kind of software since the things you would want to sync are synced to your Google account using the internet anyway.
In my opinion, syncing with a computer is something that shouldn't be necessary anymore and it isn't for most things.

Android phones don't require a Syncing software. Basically syncing is an option. With an Android you can literally own the phone for years without ever needing to connect it to a computer. Everything from apps to upgrades do not require a computer. When you download an app from the Android market on your desktop/laptop it does not require you to connect your phone, it installs the application for you downloading over the air.
Edit: Android was meant to be an accessible OS. That meant that no strings would be needed. The idea of android was to be able to create one OS that could run on multiple devices of different classes. This would mean being distributed in countries where computers where computers are not accessible. Android does not require a computer allowing it to be sold in markets where competing phone OSs do not have a chance.

Drag and drop. Android always has been and hopefully always will be. There's nothing more annoying and unnecessary than sync software.
Well I don't expect someone to try to but it is more then possible to use an Android device without connecting it to a computer at any point in its life. If you want music you can download it from a cloud storage like Amazon or Music beta.
...I think for the first month of owning my Galaxy Nexus I will not connect it to my computer at all. 10gb data in one month.
That will be cool..

The way I have my Google Music set up:
- I installed the Google Music software on to my computer and have it configured to sync all my music
- I have iTunes so when I download new music it syncs automatically with Google Music.
Sorry, still no connection required
P.S. If you don't have iTunes, Google Music will sync with specific folders on your computer.

How does this not require a connection?
The Google Music Beta software syncs music on your computer to the cloud, you'll still need to use bandwidth on your phone to get the music from the cloud to the phone. Unless you drag and drop your iTunes music folder to the phone, or use yet another piece of software to sync music from iTunes to your phone.

I've got the 3GB data plan from AT&T on my Lumia 900 and on my girlfriend's Lumia 900. She walks about an hour and a half to work and streams all the way there....so far in 7 days she's used about 800MB of data. She's kind of computer illiterate, so I'm looking for a super simple way for her to just get an app and download the songs at home while on WiFi so she's not sending me a super long list of songs to download for her when I get time...and so we can cut back on data usage.
Any such apps? Or maybe even a website she can just use from the phone's browser to download?

Use Zune desk top to load your music to the phone.
For $8.33 a month($99.99 a year) you can get her a Zune membership and unlimited downloads of music, podcast, videos (music) over WiFi or E/3G/4G/LTE.
I personally love my Zune membership and find it's cost to be completely acceptable for my passion towards music. Smart DJ makes music discovery fun.

When I am at the gym or out running I normally listen to audio books or podcasts mp3 files. Does the music player on the watch handle resuming from last stopped positions? Can the positions be synced back to an audio player (any audio player) back to my smartphone? Thanks!
I did a lot of research on this and I don't think there are currently any out of the box solutions that do what you (and I) want. The closest thing I have found is to sideload "Material Audiobook Player" onto the watch and adb push your mp3 files there as I describe in this Github issue. The only thing missing is to sync back to the smartphone. This is a smart watch only solution. I love it though
Thanks for the work around! That was the last thing I wanted to know can be set up before taking the jump to buy the smartwatch!
Podcast mp3s should work no problem. You just have to upload them to Google music or download them to watch via Sony's software.

No problem, this was exactly the kind of information I was looking for when I was doing my research. I ended up buying anyway, and was worried for a bit that I wouldn't find anything. In the end, it's not a perfect solution but it works pretty well for me. Ideally, I would love it if Audible would sync the book onto the watch for offline listening but I seriously doubt that will ever happen.

I use Wear Media to listen to books while I run and it is great! Unfortunately, I don't think it syncs play position between phone and watch.
To send a lot of files, install ES File Manager on your phone and sideload it on your watch, disable Bluetooth on your phone and use wifi to send files from your phone to your watch.
There are instructions to do the transfer on YouTube, just search "es file explorer wifi transfer".
Hope this is of some help!
