does the usb connection have anything to do with what modem ur on? when i was on froyo modems it always worked perfectly but i went to eh17 and it stopped working
could it really be that the modem is what messes it up? is there like an updated driver thats for gingerbread moedems?

The problem is that my phone seems to refuse to get any service at all. The signal icon just shows a big "X" and it is stuck in "Searching for service".
Phone status shows that the Signal strenght is on -79 dBm, so i guess the anthena is working just fine. But below Service Sate it just shows "Out of service".
Im using a EB13 Modem with the SyndicateROM.
In fact, the phone was working just fine with MidnightROM until i flashed the SyndicateROM over.
Already tried reverting it to Stock rom and nothin, any suggestions?
Did you try reflashing (Just) the modem through ODIN?
Let me try...
Does this one should work? (The odin one)

Did you flash your Epic to Telcel? If so, that process might be causing you some problems. After using Odin to get back to stock, install CWM3 then SRF1.0.1, then once you're stable there, try the carrier flash again.

Thanks but it didn't work. Still stuck with no service.

What do you mean by "Flashing my epic to telcel" and that "Carrier flash?" is on Iusacell, since Telcel dont support CDMA.
And one last thing, what is SFR1.0.1?
EDIT:
Im reverting back to DI18 Stock rom with odin to see if i can do something.

Oh okay - the banner under your username says Telcel, so I figured they were it. I thought I'd read they support CDMA but I was mistaken.
SRF1.0.1 is SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.1.
On the flash, let me rephrase - did you do anything special to get the Epic to work on Iusacell, or did it work there out of the box?
That's the reason then. You can't change ROMs if you're on a carrier other than Sprint, it will revert your phone back to Sprint.

Nope, the phone was working just fine out of the box. It had signal (Roaming) and all.
I even flashed like 3 roms before Syndicate and it was working just fine. Was just yesterday that i decided to try this ROM out and got the problem.

I'm not entirely sure what to tell you - there's nothing in SRF that should/will/can cause any problems of that sort. Going back to full stock via Odin didn't help?
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700 to return to Stock rom, but i can't get this thing working
Im pretty much lost as well.
EDIT:
Oh god what the... I was just messing around with the phone. Turned on the Flight mode. Made a Factory reset via Privacy setting, Rebooted the phone, turned off the a Flight mode and suddenly had signal again.
I dont know what happened, since i tried the factory reset before with no luck... But well, im glad its working now. Thank you to both of you for the help anyways.
I have a similar problem as the OP, and I'm pretty sure it's ClockworkMod that's causing it.
Seems like every other time I do something in CWM, I get no service and an unknown Baseband and Hardware version in the phone's settings.
So far the only reliable way I've found of fixing it is to Odin all the way back to DI18 and start fresh.
For some reason Odining the modem or EB13 doesn't work (I still get no service).
And I must say, it's incredibly frustrating.
I guess I'll just have to get SRF flashed and never touch CWM again (because doing so almost always breaks my phone).
I'd like to be able to make Nandroid backups though, but unfortunately, doing so breaks the modem (which really doesn't make any sense).
using syndicate 1.01 rom since thursday, everything running great, fast, etc... today i noticed it will not connect to my home wifi. keeps getting obtaining ip address message. had no problem connecting before today. is this an issue with the rom?
Sounds like it didn't flash correctly, reflash the ROM and if that doesn't work re-download it then reflash.
In the future look in the Syndicate thread and you'll see all the issues that are normal to know whether it was a bad flash or not.
i was just getting ready to re-flash but the strange thing is i put the rom on thursday and it worked with no problem for 2 days then just stopped connecting today. oh well i will reflash and see what happens
i tried frankenstein which is based on syndicate and still no wifi. looks like a common problem
Just to make sure, did you flash the EB13 Modem prior to Syndicate 1.0.1?
i used odin to put eb13 and victory pit. then i rooted cwm 3.0. booted in recovery and put syndicate on. i did not put the eb13 modem on.
is eb13 go on with odin on the phone tab? then boot in recovery and flash syndicate?
The EB13 Modem belongs in the Phone section.
no good on the wifi
boot in cwm 3
do all wipes
boot in download mode
odin eb13 modem
boot in cwm 3
do wipes
flash syndicate 1.01
flash syndicate fixhotspot,fixmaps, and fixtethers
still no wifi. constant "obtaining ip address"
i will keep looking but if any ideas please pass along
yep, same here. My wifi used to work perfect. Now, all of sudden out of nowhere, it keeps trying to obtain an ip address, but won't connect. My other computers connect to the wifi just fine.

Yes. the modem is separate from the ROM itself. Any modem will work on any ROM. Here is a link of all available modems... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123103
Is it just me, or is Sprint disabling modems intermitantly that are newer than EC02? My Sprint phone wants to update EH10 to EC02 when I check updates, and if I use anything newer, after a while the Modem goes dead without a new Odin reflash. All the way up to EH17 it does this. I just found a Rom with no sprint spy ID ware (which is the only way I can think they're doing this) and have gone back to EC02, but will try EH17 again after getting the phone back up. Just curious if anyone else is having this issue.
The symptoms are, phone will be showing up as Airplane mode, no matter what is done to enable the phone, it will always be disabled. The modem version shows up as unknown in the about app. The only fix is to Odin the modem again.

Hmm.. not sure how that would happen, but I haven't had that issue. Then, I also haven't tried to force any kind of OTA update in a long time (I do get random automatic PRL updates though)

I've had no issues with my phone since upgrading the ROM with the Sprint spyware removed. I can only assume that Sprint is disabling Epic Phones with 2.3 ROMs that they can still control through their spyware.
Ok guys and gals, I was messing around with some things... and i lost my prl. QPST can not reconize my phone. I reinstalled driver software different usb cables 5 to be exact from samsung to moto and everything else 2 different computers that i know worked before i did what ever i did. Have you tried a blackberry cable? Also try the using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464791 to do the repair so you don't have to keep flashing.

i am going to bet a blackberry one this weekend if i can't ge it to work and the update prl wont wok with out working radio with no prl no radio.keeps going in to airplanemode....already tried it
I had downgraded back to Stock ROM 4.1.1 everything was fine.
But the WiFi is very sketchy. It stops or times out or something all the time. I can't seem to keep the wifi on.
Is there a workaround for this. I tried the trick of *#0011# and turn the wifi power save off but it doesn't stay off after a reboot it comes right back on. So I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

Might need to update your wifi drivers.
Also could be coming from your router.
Do you know where I can get the wifi drivers? Or is it in a Kernel or something?

updated kernel would probably fix your issue. If it doesn't though, chances are that it's coming from your router or your router's settings.
I checked my router and its working fine. There is no problems with it. I am a computer technician. So I know there isn't anything wrong with it.
I have tried several kernels and they are all doing the same thing. I'm afraid I will just have to go back to an AOSP rom or something. I didn't have problems with them...
