The problem is that my phone seems to refuse to get any service at all. The signal icon just shows a big "X" and it is stuck in "Searching for service".
Phone status shows that the Signal strenght is on -79 dBm, so i guess the anthena is working just fine. But below Service Sate it just shows "Out of service".
Im using a EB13 Modem with the SyndicateROM.
In fact, the phone was working just fine with MidnightROM until i flashed the SyndicateROM over.
Already tried reverting it to Stock rom and nothin, any suggestions?
Did you try reflashing (Just) the modem through ODIN?
Let me try...
Does this one should work? (The odin one)

Did you flash your Epic to Telcel? If so, that process might be causing you some problems. After using Odin to get back to stock, install CWM3 then SRF1.0.1, then once you're stable there, try the carrier flash again.

What do you mean by "Flashing my epic to telcel" and that "Carrier flash?" is on Iusacell, since Telcel dont support CDMA.
And one last thing, what is SFR1.0.1?
EDIT:
Im reverting back to DI18 Stock rom with odin to see if i can do something.

Oh okay - the banner under your username says Telcel, so I figured they were it. I thought I'd read they support CDMA but I was mistaken.
SRF1.0.1 is SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.1.
On the flash, let me rephrase - did you do anything special to get the Epic to work on Iusacell, or did it work there out of the box?
That's the reason then. You can't change ROMs if you're on a carrier other than Sprint, it will revert your phone back to Sprint.

Nope, the phone was working just fine out of the box. It had signal (Roaming) and all.
I even flashed like 3 roms before Syndicate and it was working just fine. Was just yesterday that i decided to try this ROM out and got the problem.

I'm not entirely sure what to tell you - there's nothing in SRF that should/will/can cause any problems of that sort. Going back to full stock via Odin didn't help?
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700 to return to Stock rom, but i can't get this thing working
Im pretty much lost as well.
EDIT:
Oh god what the... I was just messing around with the phone. Turned on the Flight mode. Made a Factory reset via Privacy setting, Rebooted the phone, turned off the a Flight mode and suddenly had signal again.
I dont know what happened, since i tried the factory reset before with no luck... But well, im glad its working now. Thank you to both of you for the help anyways.
I have a similar problem as the OP, and I'm pretty sure it's ClockworkMod that's causing it.
Seems like every other time I do something in CWM, I get no service and an unknown Baseband and Hardware version in the phone's settings.
So far the only reliable way I've found of fixing it is to Odin all the way back to DI18 and start fresh.
For some reason Odining the modem or EB13 doesn't work (I still get no service).
And I must say, it's incredibly frustrating.
I guess I'll just have to get SRF flashed and never touch CWM again (because doing so almost always breaks my phone).
I'd like to be able to make Nandroid backups though, but unfortunately, doing so breaks the modem (which really doesn't make any sense).
Coming from a Evo, I wanna root my phone but kinda overwhelmed with reading about modems and stuff. Can someone just explain to me what they are,the importance of them, and what I should know about them. Thanks

The modem is the radio for the phone. Using a newer one will fix a number of different issues ranging from battery life to data speeds and reception.
The current ones are:
Oldest: EG12
Older: EG30
Old: EG31 (also called EG30 Rev. 5)
Latest: EK02
The EK02 modem also came with the update to 2.3.6
If you're on EG30 - stay there! (Or flash EK02). You can not update to EK02 if you have any other modem than the EG30, as of right now anyway. There is no way currently to go back to the EG30 modem once you flash something else so that's why I said flash EK02 or nothing at all. Other than EK02, the other modems have the LoS bug also.
Most modems can just be flashed in CWM (EK02 can only be flashed this way right now). The others can be flashed in CWM or ODIN. Modems are also not ROM dependent and no ROM's here have modems in them so don't worry about that.
EK02
So if we are on EK02 and want to root our phones to get rid of CIQ and do data tethering is there something different we need to do or is the standard root method still good?
Sorry about the lack of grammar, my brain is still asleep.
Alright:
A modem is what controls you receiving and transmitting wireless data to the Sprint network - it's also called a baseband. You can view what modem you're using in Settings > About > Baseband Version. We refer to modems based on the last four letters/digits; unless you've messed with it, it should be EG30.
While changing the modem can increase (or decrease) your network speed (mbps) or, potentially, your signal quality, the primary reason to change modem firmware is if you're experiencing Loss of Signal issues. In a bug peculiar to the Epic 4G Touch, it tends to spontaneously lose signal from time to time and require fiddling with data on/off or a reboot to reestablish a network connection. There's a lot of speculation as to what causes this - root, custom kernels, custom ROMs, etcedra - but not much in the way of definite answers. Unless you're experiencing noticeable issues with Loss of Signal, you probably should NOT change your modem for the time being. That's because we don't have a way to get you back to EG30 yet; while we have a very similar firmware, EG12, it's not precisely stock and it won't allow you to receive Over-The-Air updates like the newest EK02 modem (which is, as far as we can tell, superior for LoS and data transfer rates).
That being said, if you do have LoS issues (or just want to try something new anyway), since you're almost certainly on EG30, your best bet would be to try flashing to EK02 at first. As far as we can tell, it's the modem to have - and you can't try it after flashing one of the other modems. If that doesn't satisfy you, EG31 is the other intermediate firmware version that has some different behavior where LoS and data transfer is concerned; EG12 is the most like stock. All offer different performance and LoS likelihood, and oddly enough, how they perform tends to change from phone to phone. All the firmwares in question are available for download here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352310), and there's also tutorial videos there too for how to flash them to your phone via ODIN, Samsung's flashing utility. Note that these modems can also be flashed through ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM), and that EK02 must actually be flashed through CWM; this requires flashing CWM and, almost certainly, rooting your phone.
One more tip: If you have wireless issues after flashing a new modem, before you flash to something different, make sure to go to About > System Updates and use both Update Profile and Update PRL, with an optional phone reboot after (not necessary, but claimed to help). This will make sure your modem didn't lose any of the network information (important for signal quality and data speed) transmitted to your phone when you first activated it on the Sprint network.
Happy flashing!
Does the "modem" also handles wifi communication or is it only CDMA/GSM? I'm getting LOS on Wifi and wondering if going to EK02 would do anything at all.
WiFi is not handled by the modem, its handled by the kernel, and ROM

No u don't need a new phone. Just wait till the update comes and then the full tar will be released. Then u can flash the new modem.

So my phone was @ EL29. I decided that when I was updating from CM9-alpha3 to CM9-alpha4 that I'd also go ahead and update my modem. I updated CM9, and it rebooted fine and was still working.
Went back and Odin'd the FE16 modem, and it rebooted. Once it booted up, I got a 'Activate your phone' page stating "A special call needs to be made to activate your phone service. After pressing 'Activate'... " but this doesn't work (The number or code you dialed is incorrect.)
From what I can tell, this is because ICS doesn't support the ## dialer codes? I did some searching, but couldn't come up with much. I found this post in the modem thread, which links to a "multiboot" ROM for the Epic 4G (not the Touch) that boots a stock ROM off the SD Card and doesn't affect the current running ROM, which lets you do things like Update PRL / Update Profile / etc.
Is there anything like that for the E4GT? Or am I going to have to wipe, go back to GB, re-activate/update profile/update prl on stock, wipe again and go back to CM9?
Another option is to program your phone through QPST, but you might find that to be just as troublesome as flashing back to stock.
A quick search pointed me to this thread for QPST. Doesn't seem too terribly difficult (except that I'm on a Linux box, might have to do some fun VirtualBox emulation to get it working on a Windows VM).
Technically I lied when I said I flashed the stuff using Odin... actually used heimdall, but it does the same thing.
What's funny is my data is working 3G/4G with no problem. If I try to place a call, it immediately hangs up. Trying ##72786# gives a recording that "Your phone is not yet activated. To activate, press end and call customer service"
Service is through ting (who uses Sprint's network)

i actually had something like this happen about a week or two ago. I used heimdall on my mac to flash a new modem while on an AOSP rom, and was told I had to activate the phone. I couldn't figure out anything to do except restore a TW backup and activate then restore back to my current AOSP setup. I never experienced having a modem flash de-activate the phone, but this was the only time i ever used heimdall, usually use Odin on windows.
Odin back to a stock ROM using a one click, Odin a stock modem of your choice and check clear phone efs, and boot up and allow it to reactivate.

First I tried extracting the packages from the OdinOneClick to use heimdall to flash it back to stock. Ended up in a bootloop on the Spring 4G screen. Brought up a Win7 box and used the oneclick on Windows to get back to stock. Reactivated, reflashed the FE16 modem. Now back to CM9 I go.. oh well, all fixed
Thanks ya'll

Good going JLM!
Btw Revamper, I think any of the one-click flashes both the stock modem and kernel along with the rom so you don't necessarily have to flash a modem right away.
Edit: Also, what's the 'clear phone efs'?

It does but you can't clear phone EFS. that clears all sprint data and forces your phone to activate again.

Did you do a full restore or a data preserve?
Edit; if you did a data preserve, your phone will act funny when coming from a ROM. You should do a FE16 full restore if you haven't already, it will reset all your phone settings to factory, but it's the best option when coming from a ROM.

If you're worried about modem speed, FE16 to me is the best modem since FC18.
Ok so I have a Telus model and this started a few days ago when I flashed an AOKP rom...
So, I don't get LTE in my area and have always had 4G (or whatever they say it is).. Ive flashed many TW roms and ALL the roms have displayed 4g...and for not having lte, ive been very impressed with the speeds.
However, since this AOKP rom I installed (which was awesome, just wanted to go back to TW), it displayed H+...
Now, I know what h/h+ is and all that jazz about the carriers.. My issue is, can't flash any TW rom now without getting 3g/h/h+ toggling back and forth nonstop and the speeds are horrible!!! Can barely download in the store and loading a page takes a while.....and yes, I realize that its supposed to help with battery and whatnot but I don't like it and just want 4G back!!! lol
So far, I can only get 4g back when I unroot and do a hard factory reset...
And even then, it still shows h/H+ until I go through all the system updates.... then, I go to install another TW rom and I'm back with the h/h+ again...
I have tried the att fix, installing latest modem and still no luck.
I even asked to do a factory reset on my fathers phone (we are on the same family plan) and his shows 4g even when installing any TW rom...
Does anyone out there know what I did wrong?? also, my imei number is fine..
Thanks in advance to any advice or help

So it constantly switches between 3g, H, and H+ ? Have you downloaded a network signal app to see what kind of signal you are getting and strong it really is ?
When you say you have done a complete unroot and factory reset, what method are you using ? Is this where to flash an unrooted stock firmware from lets say Sam Mobile and then done a factory reset ? Or are you just doing another type of unroot ? When you root what method are you using ?
You stated you are on a Telus model but flashed an at&t modem ? Are you on AT&T service ?

Getting 5753kbps download and 905kbps upload .
Whereas before my kbps were always around 11-12000kbps for the download speeds.
I always flash back to stock rom using odin and then factory reset.
Oh sorry if I stated that wrong. I tried an att fix as well as flashing the most recent modem for my telus device but both fixes did nothing.
Again tho, ive done this so many times with TW roms and cant figure it out..
Im currently trying to go back to stock and use the most recent CWM to flash and see if that helps

It doesn't seem to make sense that even after going back to stock unrooted 4.0.4 (or what ever it cmae with from the factory) you still have signal problems as the odin packages would flash the correct modem once you install.
Sounds like network issues.
Speeds of ~9000kb are actually pretty standard for actual usage with H+/H/3G. Don't worry about speed too much. And for future reference 4G is H+, its just another name for it. The common misconception is that 4G is LTE which it is not.

general rule of thumb, touchwiz roms cannot be built from source. The only way to mess with these roms is with winzipping and adding apps (i call it bloatware) to be honest, if you want customization go to AOSP. Every single time I use a touchwiz rom no matter how smooth its says it is, I get crashes, bugs, irreversible issues like you have, loss of connectivity, the list goes on. Thats all because of the limitations of not having source code, I would recommend you drop the touchjizz and find an AOSP rom you like, if not, stock rom is the way to go.

That your opinion is somehow fact. That somehow using a TW rom will just give you bugs and ruin your phone, as if a custom rom doesn't have glaring bugs as well. It's quite awesome the amount of customization that the dev's on the touchwiz rom's are able to inject into their rom's. Anyonr who thinks it's just unzipping files and adding apk's is uninformed. Is it on the level of PA or AOKP of course not but with more customization you add the possibility and almost the certainty that you have bugs and instability. We are quite spoiled on the i747 that we have kt and Task developing rock solid custom rom's. Most out there don't have that pleasure. If a TW rom on here is unstable it's because the dev has fallen short some where. I'd say I fall in this category and I am certainly no dev, just a noob cook. Equating TW rom's from 2.2 to the ones we have now is just fallacy. I do agree not having the source code put's dev's on the
In general I have had to deal with more bugs and instability with custom rom's than I have with a stock based rom (stock meaning what came on the phone). Yet that is not a gripe but merely the fact that I don't like to deal with the little things that pop up on custom rom's, and I prefer the aesthetics of TW. Crazy I know as many find it ugly.
I've got the T-Mobile M919 S4 and I have a 4.4.4 ROM on it (Insane Hybrid).
I've got the latest NK2 Baseband and I also don't want to upgrade to Lollipop since I did before and it was lag lag lag lag lag after a week or so.
I've noticed recently that it is getting very poor reception.
My buddy's S3 will have two bars and mine will show no service. Or it'll have bars but no data service. Or I won't be able to call out.
There also seems to be an unusual amount of spots where I have no service.
When I do have service, the data can get really really slow.
My GPS lock also frequently gets lost during navigation.
Any ideas? Do I need to flash a kernal, modem, or radio or something? Which ones?

Try updating your baseband. That sometimes solves it. Here's the link:

Thanks, I'll give those a shot. I'm going to flash this and see what happens:

I'm still a bit confused on some of the terminology and what's bundled with what.
- The "modem" is the same as the "radio", right? It's a driver that controls how the device deals with cellular voice and data signals. I can find the version of my modem/radio by looking at the last letters in my "baseband."
- The modem/radio driver is usually bundled with a ROM, right? So the ROM that I flashed above will also update/replace my current modem/radio driver?
- Modem/radio drivers can be separate from the ROM itself. If I use a 4.4.4 rom that has NK2 bundled, I can still flash just a NH4 radio using ODIN onto the old ROM and be ok, right?
- Where does the kernal come in? I'm assuming the kernel is bundled with the ROM and the kernal is only in charge of the switching between cellular and WiFi data, right?
That's the price you pay with custom roms, sometimes your lucky and everything works the way it's supposed to sometimes it doesn't.
Run phone for a day and make sure everything works properly after flashing back to stock before attempting custom again.
If you need your device to function as a reliable phone, making and receiving calls and messages you may have to rely on stock roms.
Pp.
