Battery Saver Mode Experiences - Windows Phone 7 General

Hows the battery life you guys are experiencing with the mango update in general with and without battery saver mode on
is battery saver mode making a big difference?
im using battery saver for when the battery gets low and im noticing a bit of a stretch of extra battery life on my htc trophy (verizon)
when u turn battery saver mode on doesnt that disable notifications push and toast?
i know i havent tried the battery saver mode on the whole day to notice any difference just wanted to see if anybody else has yet and what kinda life are u getting on battery saver mode on all the time and when the battery gets low

well for the one day that I left my charger at home by accident when going to school I turned on battery saver mode and was able to make it through the entire day with my normal use habits with about 30% remaining once I got home. this was when I was on 7712 haven't done this on the official yet.

My 7720 experience was pretty horrid with battery life until I got the Samsung update on Tuesday. I went from barely making it 10-12 hours on a charge to 18-24 hours. I can get up to 1.5 hours with battery saver turned on.

For the first couple of days, I left my status set to "online" the entire day, and my battery barely lasted through the day (around 15 hours). Battery saver mode came on after about 13 hours, or it wouldn't have lasted.
Today I set myself to offline, and last time I checked it (after around 8 hours of normal use), it showed 80%. So it seems pretty clear to me that overall, Mango battery life is very good, but keeping yourself online is a killer.

Battery saver mode works pretty well for me... I love it... Thank god its inbuilt and I didn't had to download another one dollar application to do this thing.. Things like this should be inbuilt .. Also adding additional tile shortcuts of any kind we want..

Haven't tried it. Battery life went down noticeably but I have chargers everywhere. I stay online all day. If I wasn't online in message hub I'd be online in some other app so why not. On Android my gtalk is always on as well. Don't see this phone lasting a day for me with or without battery saver, lol.

I'm still debating about staying online all day. Most of the people I chat with on Facebook are online in the evening, but not so much during the day.
But I love the battery saver option. When I was online all day, and it did kick in toward the end of the day, I observed the battery usage drop to a mere trickle (it only lost around 1-2% per hour after that). So, without having to change anything, I can be assured that my phone will still be available in an emergency.

at full charge my venue pro shows me around 3 days and 18 or so hrs...with battery saver i get 3 more added...best part is i play music moderately, use the radio, wifi on all the time and at the days end it stil shows around 2 days and 12 hrs or so time left....is somthing wrong cos when i first bought the phone, 15 hours was the maximum i got for the phone.....

plug in charge usb messenging hub locks up
has anybody had this happen?
when your phone is in battery saver mode and you plug it in it becomes unresponsive and kind of locks up. messages and emails don't send or receive.
only way it ever happens for me:
if i was in a message and i plug into usb computer or wall outlet power the phone cant switch back from a message to the list of messages, i cant send the message that is typed, i cant type, and no messages are received (or show up after a reset) i can go back home but every time i try to do something it says loading and closeshas happened for a year now

Battery life for me in Mango and 8107 (or whatever the latest update is called) has been pretty awful. I recently did a hard reset.
Post hard reset, a full charge would say 1D 4hours or something
After a few weeks, a full charge now says 18 hours, but lasts considerably less.
By noon my phone is at 50%, if I don't charge it, it hits battery saver mode by the time I leave (6pm). That's with taking it off the charger at 7am, and barely using it. Pretty horrible.
I'm seriously considering a BlackBerry. WP is great and all, but it's just not built for business use. And I need a battery that can last more than 10 minutes.

Sounds like you have a bad battery. My titan is at about 72% after an 8 hour day with lots of email use and some browsing / texting through the day. (i check 7 email account and exchange and hotmail are both push) Currently at 10pm mine still says 52% and estimates 10 more hours use. Now if i were to play a game for an hour or more i'd probably kill it but for browsing and more business like use... it can't be beat. My old surround lasts about 16 hours with wifi on unless my wife games it to death.

[SOLVED][Q] Battery issues?

Wondering if anyone else has had any battery issues? I went to sleep last night with about 85% or more battery, and 5.5 hours later my phone was dead....when i plugged it in for like 5 minutes to call my work and tell them i was going to be late...when i got to work my phone said 45% phone idle and 45% cell standby for battery use
none here - took phone off charger about midnight, this morning after alarm rang for the full 10 minutes, it still showed 100%
i've been watching it and am really impressed with battery life - is it possible you've got a program running in the background? - i had Startup Auditor to stop apps in the background but had that from before, on my Vibrant
on the vibrant, running a predominantly black wallpaper, screen brightness at 13%, putting phone in "airplane mode" when i sleep, keeping GPS off, data sync off etc, it'd be down to 17-22% at end of day before going back on charger
this G2, running live wallpaper (thunderstorm), no efficiency moves (ie GPS off, etc), screen brightness at 50%, phone still had 34% last night before going back on the charger - and the battery has not "conditioned" - i noticed on the past 2 phones batteries life got better after the first few weeks of use.
Nothing different than my nexus...and i was thinking maybe it was a game but that should have been killed automatically and i dont think it would say phone standby and cell idle if it was an app would it?
tonite you might try putting the phone in airplane mode when you go to bed, and turn off GPS
see what happens to battery drain overnite - if it diminishes then i'd look at what apps you've installed. there was an article on engadget not too long ago that some researchers had analyzed the 358 most popular apps, and found 30 were reporting data to their "mothership" that had not declared it or asked for permission to report data.
hope that helps
well another weird thing is, that when i bought the phone and brought it home, usually it comes with half battery and thats what it showed but i had to charge it quick with no apps really installed on it yet...Im charging now and will test to see what happens with battery...i just removed off alot of my apps.... to see whats up
I'm getting about 10 hours with regular usage though I wish I knew why Photobucket keeps starting everytime i kill it.
I hope you guys charged the phone fully before you used it first. That can play a big role in battery life.
I got my phone yesterday and haven't done any calibrations yet. I've been playing with it like you normally would if you buy a new smartphone. I took it off the charger around 9pm last night and at 7:32am right now I have about 60% left. So roughly 10.5 hours later and I've only lost about 40%. I'm very impressed by that. My vibrant would have been dead by now, it rarely lasts through the night if its not on the charger.

wp7 unknown battery drain

For the past 2 nights i have been experiencing this
had 50% power left the night before...
after 6 hours sleep
phone is out of battery @@
Now that aint right, im guessing something is running under locked screen and iono what!!! but i always jump out of any program when im about to sleep too, so it cant be because of that
In the past, i could have standby time for a long period especially after one night. But the past two days when i woke up, it always ran out of battery!! Also when i charged my phone to full life, i sometimes come back after a hour or two to find it dead!!!
This has never happened before and im wondering what could be the cause of it.
In the past i could leave my wifi, bluetooth, location on and it would still last overnight and i wasnt running any program
It cant be because of alphajax right? I mean i did install that two nights ago :\
That is really weird, which phone do you have? I have the hd7 and get 2 days between charges most of the time. Have you tried uninstalling alphajax to see if that helps?
I use a HTC mozart 7
Im gonna try uninstalling a few apps to see if that helps or switch to my secondary battery pack
just to let you know i watch videos before i go to sleep and because its get so hot it drains battery faster, even though i had 50% after I finished watching it went all out in about 8 hours of sleep.
That sounds highly likely, i was playing a game before that, then left it alone for 1 hour, check still had 50% battery, and then went to sleep
woke up with a dead phone
I will confirm that when I have overworked my focus, ie several hours of video and games, the battery can get very hot and if I wait until I get the low power warning, plugging it into my laptop USB can't keep up with the drain.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
ok this is ridiculous
in 3 hours i lost 30% power on standby
ITS ON BLOODY STANDBY!!! lol i cant figure out whats causing it. I didnt use the phone for anything at all then put it to charge till 100%. Started counting down time...
If I were you and you dont mind loodsing games aves etc, Id try a hard reset and if that doesnt solve the problem go to LG and ask them to fix it if there may be a fault.
Sorry I cant help further and Goodluck!

I've had this issue as well. This has been going on for months for me. Before NoDo and the pre-update.
Perhaps the battery isn't calibrated properly. Mine shoots down to 50% over the day but sometimes an hour or so after I hit fifty the battery goes critical then dies.
Battery Drain
I have the Samsung Focus. Pre NoDo I could get maybe 18 hrs in standby, and charging from USB on my computer was not happening. I had to plug it into the wall. If I actually used my phone for maps, calls, web or whatever I would get about 10 hr's depending how "how much I used it". This was with EVERYTHING turned off. Bluetooth, location services, feedback, anything and everthing I could disable. After NoDo, I get about 2 days, and now it will charge from my computers USB. Go figure.
All I can guess is there was some sort of corruption in the ROM.
Just a side note, does anybody know what "NoDo" stands for???
Answer: No Donuts
Before the February and March updates, I woke up one day to see my battery had drained from 100% to 0% in about 6 hours of sleep. After recovering from an angry awakening next morning, I paid a lot of attention to how the battery was draining. So I charged up to 100%, went to work on the tube as I always do, and noticed how after about 45 minutes, the battery was down to 50%. That was just some music playback and checking a few mobile websites.
In the end I remembered the day before I had installed two applications, one of them being Lyrics and the other one being a BPM (beats per minute) detector for getting the tempo of a music track. I decided to remove that application and, voilá, the battery drain stopped. I would have uninstalled the Lyrics app but this was already taking me to a decent power usage state, so I stopped there.
If I were you I would check recently installed apps to make sure you don't have a power drainer that's magically working in the background when you put the phone to sleep.
Did you disable feedback in settings. That extended my battery life considerably

I know what your going through, but i found the solution.
Your mobile data is constantly running to check for updates on the game and push notifications. Disable data connection whenever your not using it, and i swear you will see a massive improvement. I have a htc trophy and its notorious for its bad battery. I used to only get 4-6 hours out of it, and now i get 12-14, with WiFi.
That reminded me.... alphajax uses push (although i had disabled it) to notify the user if the other player had made a move...
It all seems LOGICAL that alphajax is the culprit here....
but i also have lyrics, how does that app affect the battery???

32%: Brightness on low, data off, battery saver on and...

... it says I have 4 hours left. Extrapolate that and it gives me 12 hours on a single charge.
I have a stock LG Quantum. Is my battery in need of changing or is this just the norm? (honest question)
Cause this noise is ridiculous.
I have no idea really. My Lumia gives me 22% and 2 hours left, for what it's worth. Unplugged it this morning at 7:30, medium (by my standards) usage.

Probobly a battery problem? Check with the store you bought it at, the warranty should cover the battery problem and they will hopefully send it in and give you a new battery. Just describe it well to them.
I'm using LG Optimus 7 (since April 2011), and got about 26h battery with 100% charge, medium brightness, a bright tile theme and Battery saver. I usually use alot of 3G and Wifi and it's holding atleast a whole day.
I sent it in once for a battery fix and an upgrade to mango (and before that, the battery held for like 19h).

Hope you updated with the battery-fix update for Lumia
22% should give you like 5 hours atleast..
When I had my Focus it would do great on battery for a month, then all the sudden it would drain fast like yours. A factory reset fixed it for a month, then it did it again. I have no idea why, just my experience.
I did update it, but I've been hammering the phone for a few hours this evening. I got 17% now and 2 hours left, I think it's kinda fair. The readings that the options give while you're using the phone are really worth nothing tho...

Sometime, you need to re-calibrate the battery...
But yeah, sometime, i don't even know if my phone display correct battery life or not..
For an Example, i turned on Battery Saver and left the phone screen off while listening to music on it.
2 hours later, the battery dropped only 2%.
Battery usage is hardly linear though
..3g conn off and battery saver on i got 3,5-4 days with calls and msg-s,
i think its battery defect.I got optimus 7 with same battery as you do..
Thanks for the replies guys.
I did a hard reset a while back and yeah, for like a week I was getting 30+ hours of a charge. Now it's ridiculous like I outlined. I really hope it's a battery thing, but part of me knows better?
Unfortunately, my phone's warranty is over. I'm considering one of those more powerful batteries. But it's not OEM stuff, may not be very good.
It depends how you use your phone really, and windows phone calculates the time from when you use it until it drains. I just got my Titan for only a week, installed Skype on it and literally drained for a mere 5hours and 40 minutes on wifi, although talk time states it is 11h 50 min on 2G and 6h 50min on 3G, not surprising it lasted 5h on wifi.
Then after charging, it showed that I only have 5 hours battery life remaining and time since last charged it less than 1 hour. This looked terrible so I did a hard reset and first and went back to 1 day and 15 hours. After a while of not using skype, it lasted about 2 days on regular use (sms, push email, foursquare). Used skype again and battery drained, now I had it with hard reset so I just charged it full and did not use skype on it. Few hours later, it went back to 1 day and (now) 12 hours.
From my experience on my almost 1 year old Samsung Focus,
1. the battery life prediction on Battery Saver is not very accurate.
2. turning on the battery saver will greatly enhance battery life as all background services, syncs and push notification services are turned off.
3. 3G uses a lot of battery.
4. 2G or EDGE will enhance battery life greatly.
5. Amoled displays consume a lot of battery especially with a white theme.
WP doesn't actually last long when browsing over WiFi, I hope this gets sorted either in Tango or Apollo...

battery life of 900, is it good?

guys i want to know if the battery life of your lumia 900 is good? mine sucks, I got the phone about 10 days ago, I find the battery drains very fast. normally the first 3-4 hours are good, but then it will drop like 20% within 30 minutes, then drains very fast, after around 10 hours it's only 20%ish. I use the phone in normal way, check emails as they arrive (about 20 emails a day), text 10-20, phone call 20-30mins, that's all.
I live in UK. first time I launch Nokia Music it stopped response, I had to reset my phone for it to work properly.
is this normal? what should I do to improve the battery life?
I found the battery life alot better on the 900 than my Titan and Lumia 800, I have 2 email accounts on sync every 15 mins and just a weather app running in background, I have tried hard to run the battery out in a day of heavy use and just managed it, It can depend greatly on how strong your signal is from your Network provider as if it has to struggle to find 3G or keep switching then this will drain the battery more, Maybe change email sync to either every 15 min or 30 min to see if that helps, Screen time-out at 30 secs and dark theme can also help conserve power, Check background tasks in settings and switch off unnecessary apps, Also a new battery will need several charges/discharges before it reaches its optimum capacity, Try not to run the battery out completely, Normally just after you get the low battery warning is best then charge overnight.

thanks for the tips mate. i've changed the sync to every 15mins. I also manual input apn option and turn of the location service. hope this will help...
Are you connected to a MicroCell anytime during the day. They are known to drain battery quickly. I have a lot more running than you (email & background) and my average "screen off" drain is about 3.5% per hour, or 56% per 16 hour day. That leaves me about 4 hours of screen on time before my battery is nearly drained (screen on/data/calls drains another 9-10% per hour). Pretty impressed with my battery actually.

How do you guys measure the % drain per hour on the lumia? I know android does like a graph and stuff is there an app for it?
I have
Four email sync
Twitter
facebook
weather app
and take photos
and a few calls.
lasts me anything between `12 hours - heavy use to around 19 hours of mild to normal use and am actually quiet impressed with the battery.
Suggestions :
Turn off WIFI when not in use as it uses power to search for signal
Poor Network coverage will DRAIN battery as well.
Disable any Background tasks which you do not need.
And I charge my phone every night regardless of the battery percentage even if its 50% left
Search feature of the forumn... is it good?
thread in this forum all about battery life.
If you are in a known WiFi area, like home or work, no need to turn off WiFi. Uses less power for data transfer than LTE, but of course, may be a bit slower. Out and about and have your screen on a lot; might be a good idea to turn of WiFi. WiFi uses almost 0 power when your phone is sleeping.
Just finished a series of Background Task tests. Comparing drain with tasks enabled/disabled. About 0.5% per hour or 8% per 16 hour day. That's with 8 tasks running; USA Today, Fox News, Weather Channel, Mehdoh, Urban Dictionary, Network Dashboard, Clever-To-Do and Battery Meter. Btw, Battery Meter is a homebrew app, but you can check percentages on the Settings>Battery Saver screen.

I do know about the diagonistic mode... but uninstalled it as there are rumours it eats battery as well
Why would the Diagnostic App, which can't be uninstalled, as its part of your ROM, have anything to do with draining your battery. How do these rumors start. Guess this is another "truth" I will have to prove. Running a series of articles on Mobility Digest to squash all these urban legends. So far, push email, battery saver and background tasks. More to follow.

I don't think it does, I loaded it up yesterday to check what my battery drain was, since then my phone has used 27% in 22 hours. Perhaps it uses a lot of power while you're using it, but surely not just by having it installed.

It can be uninstalled as I have installed and uninstalled it quiet a few times now, probably it on a hidden partition of the ROM, but you can remove it.
Just for the sake of it I kept it all day today and my battery life was not affected as such,, so rumours are rumours after all
No, all you are doing is making it visible or invisible. Its always there. Do you actually see it installing like a Marketplace app, or does it just magically appear when you type in ##634# (or whatever it is). Oh, never mind.

Got the phone brand new yesterday so below are the first discharge stats with wifi ON only and cellular data off and max speed set to edge.
Remaining battery: 57%
Time since last charge 7 hours.
I've been playing with it from time to time since I unplugged it. 2 emails fetching every 15 minutes, whatsapp, downloading and testing apps.
How does it rank for a first discharge?
Difficult to say. The first thing you should do is dial ##634# on the phone keypad which installs the diagnostic app, then you can check the battery discharge rate. It usually jumps around for a few seconds and then settles down to around 90mA - 110mA. If it's higher than this, something is draining the battery.
I'm finding that sometimes various apps seem to start up some sort of process that continues to drain the battery even when it's not doing anything, and the best thing to do in that case is a soft reset.
Doing this I managed 60 hours between the last two charges, and since then I've gone 80 hours with 29% still left. That's with very light use and no apps installed though.

My drain reads around 100ma so I guess I'm good.
i'm not getting good usage with the battery now, on my 3rd charge, and so far only able to last 1 day, and i'm not even consider as a heavy user, no text, only few whatsapp (around 10) 15-20min calls and little browsing and market downloads. i didn't even on the auto update for emails... hope that the battery will improve after a few more charge...

Battery usage

My battery stats have improved greatly by turning off location completely.
Took it off charge at 6am and with heavy usage
YouTube internet calls etc
still have 65% 16.5 hrs later.:good:
Just starting to play with battery use on my new G5. 100% charged 10 hours ago just before bed.
On a day to day basis i am a pretty light user. Calls and texts mainly.
Left phone unpluggged so it slept and 7 1/2 hours layer its at 93%.
20 mins music and email checking 19 hours in its at 88%.
Have Greenified much in the way of apps which i think improved things. Compared to the Sony i had the G5 seems to have ok battery life.
Its certainly in the useful, full day and better range.

Is yours rooted? I tend to get 5+ hours screen on time sometimes 7 which is amazing for a phone this cheap.
Same here, I have about 4-5 hours of screen on time with greenify, non-rooted. I'm a regular user, messenger, emailing, browsing, spotify etc. I'm also using Adguard which has its impact on the battery but a small price compared to having ads all over the place

Nope, no root as yet. And actually i may not depending on what ROMS become available in the future. Pretty happy with the way this is setting up and Android 7.0 stock. I think i may well leave it unrooted until after Android O hits and see where i go from there.
i'm rooted and the battery is very good, i got 7,5 hours SOT, usually i have 5-6 H of calls and 3H of SOT, 2 sims active, wifi and 4g always on, and the battery is 20-25% when i put on charging from evening to the morning. Very happy with this battery

Very good battery for price of the handset
I don´t know it´s a isolated case, but since i bought the phone, the battery is pretty bad, yesterday i tried to charge with another power adapter and my battery it´s lasting longer, anyone have this same problem?
Sometimes this happens to me.
When i keep my phone overnight(Battery Saver ON) even wid a charge of 60-70%, next day mrng, the battery is completely drained and phone is OFF. This doesnt happen daily, happens only sometimes. Any guesses why dis happens?
