I can confirm this info. you will still be able to bill accessories to the account but no longer handsets, tablets, and air cards. sprint states that no other wireless provider still allows you to bill handsets to you're account.

Yeah just read that as well... kinda sucks because I use bill to Account to test the phones without having to wait a month and a half to receive a refund. Sprint current policy is refund process within 10 days of receiving phone 21 business days to cut check and 14 business days for check to arrive. Had this happen to me with the nexus s... so I will not buy a phone without recommendations from you guys for now on...lol...

I can understand for new accounts but if you have been with Sprint for years this should still be an option.
It is until Oct 5th then no more at all.

All this change means that I will be rolling with my sammy for almost two years... I better see like 3 software upgrades!

I actually am surprised they went this long and still allowed billing to the account.
I'll bet they get stiffed quite a bit by people ordering phones, then never paying the invoice.
If it helps Sprint keep money in their pocket, and in turn helps to keep unlimited data indefinitely, go right ahead and take that away to. Better that, then to have to pay extra for what we already have.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I again don't understand why long time customers can't still do this.
Obviously if you'be been with Sprint for 5 years or more you're extremely unlikely to do something like that.

So...if the other networks jumped off a bridge, Sprint would too?
Sprint is slowly turning into Verizon....except with slower data and ****tier CS.
There's been alot of fraud going around lately on our end, especially with world phones like the photon. Changes to bill to account should come as no surprise ...

try force roaming and tethering that much.

Hopefully they do.
You know abusing the network to get out of your contract is not ethical, right? You're also making the network slower for others, aswel.

Who lied? Have you gone back and disputed this? If it was done at the store Customer service can't do much as there's no proof to what you're claiming is true so the best option is to go back to store and vice versa. Airave does help if you qualify for one. Check www.sprint.com/airavecoverage. For your discount you have to apply through www.sprint.com/verify but nothing anyone can do in regards to the % the company you're claiming offers.

Soo after all the hate I decided to call sprint and tell them best buy replaced the device in the end and that they should take back the 150 account credit. The first person I spoke to was shocked and instantly transferred me to his supervisor.
The supervisor (Margaret) thanked me for keeping this honest and said she would remove the credit, but since I was honest and called in to inform them she was going to renew my upgrade status... so now I am fully eligible for a upgrade for when the next big thing his
Figured I would let all the nay sayers know I did the "right thing" and how it turned out for me. Thanks for all.the advice

Upgrade Eligibility.
There is a specific department or person that can do it.
The Rep will confirm with the Supervisor. Once the Supervisor gives the ok, they fill out a form and forward it to a different department. Then the upgrade eligibility if reset. A supervisor doesn't always have to be involved. As long as they can figure it out, they can fill out the form.

I've worked in the industry since 2005. It's changed a couple times how it's done. I've been through this personally and assist customers with calling into Customer Service on a daily basis. We just had to have one reset so my girlfriend could catch a Black Friday deal. Even with the UpgradeNow program and paying off the rest of your contract. It's never within 3 minutes. People usually come in the day after to finalize their upgrade. We can all call into Account Services to confirm how it works if you'd like.
I missed the whole original thread and whatever fiasco was going on. I just jumped in when I saw it say reset upgrade eligibility.

I work account services, as both an account manager and escalation manager, your information is wrong. Also, early upgrades are supposed to be done in store only, with the trade in of your current device and yes it's done within a couple of minutes at the store, if your store is having issues I recommend bringing that up to whoever is in charge so customers don't have to wait. The only reason we have it is for customers looking to cancel that we may be able to save with the program or for individuals that don't have acorporate store in their area. Many communications have been sent out to not refer customers to account services for early upgrades. While what you said is somewhat close, unfortunately it's incorrect.

At first they said excessive roaming, but that was bs because I never leave home. So they investigated further and said it was due to "tethering without a tethering plan." No warning, nothing. I woke up and was shut off this morning. I love downloading full albums and movies. I suppose I could have challenged them for having "unlimited data" but screw it. I'll get a Nexus 4 off contract w/Tmo unlimited 70 bucks a month.

It was probably roaming while they are doing NV upgrades. If it was really for tethering you wouldn't have gotten out etf free. They would have either opted for you to add tethering or would have just added it to your next bill. What tethering app were u using?

Technically they can't tell you were tethering unless you were using the sprint hotspot. They can *claim* you were cuz of desktop protocols, but just tell em your browser on your phone is set to desktop user agent which uses the same protocols as your desktop browser. Most likely you were roaming due to the upgrades going on and whatever carrier you roamed on claimed you were tethering. At least you didn't have to pay the etf.

Android to android is even more incognito than android to windows/linux/mac, but the more advanced phone browsers and apps become the harder it is to tell the difference between mobile and desktop data packets. I would say in the next 5 years all internet capable devices will be using almost identical protocols to access the web which means all data would look the same to anyone sniffing packets. I'm grandfathered in on an unlimited tethering plan on my work line and I use upwards of 100GBs a month on it for work and I tether my personal line (same account) to my tablet and laptop and have been for 3 years and sprint never says anything. Between the 5 lines on our account we average 250GB a month.

Just wondering if Sprint is about to crack down on tethering or if it was roaming which we all know they crack down on. If they did not get their end of the bargain, you won't get yours too, so pay your bills or just pay the ETF and sell off your phone.

For the time being, this is half true. Nationally, a carrier independent database is currently in works. Per CTIA's last report to the FCC on the subject, the GSM database was complete Oct 2012 and the LTE database will be up and running this November. Additionally, both VZW and Sprint are currently participating in multi-carrier databases that are a bit more limited than the one that will roll out later this year. Coupled with this, the FCC is championing legislation that will criminalize modifying a device's IMEI to circumvent blacklisting.
So, my bill is due today. I want to flash it to cricket and Really want to keep my number. Will it work?

No. They will not release a number when you still owe them a considerable amount of money. Furthermore, this isn't something that will just go away. You will get hounded for the money you owe. First by Verizon, and then by a third party debt collector. It will negatively affect your credit and there exists a possibility that a court judgment could be sought against you. On the off chance it comes to that, you'd be looking at owing more than the past due amount and ETF.
Have you tried calling Verizon and working with them to adjust your level of service to something you can afford at this time? Another option would be to sell the phone on Craigslist and use that to pay down the ETF. You could then get a prepaid phone which will assist in keeping your usage manageable until you're in a better situation financially.
Just a small example of how and why our economy is so f'd up.
good day.
Unless you don't care for the carrier, call them and see if you can work something out, like splitting your bill over two months and changing the plan.

Why would you assume that without knowing what I'm going through? Okay , am I supposed to explain to you my whole situation, an emergency happened but NAH keep talking like you know everything. Bye
EDIT: you know, I hate being negative in anyway to people. I just want to spread positive energy as much as I can. Hope you all a good life.

I'm pretty sure that when I was in the military, I learned how to manage my damn finances.

I think there are 2 points here:
1. Berating strangers on the internet is just as unwise and unjust as doing so in person. We can't judge someone else's hardships and we have no right to try. Savings and planning can only go so far in the face of emergencies.
2. Solving financial problems by planning to violate your phone contract is also unwise and unjust. Contracts are binding (and if one person breaks them the cost gets passed on to everyone else), and emergencies are what savings and planning are for.
I, personally at least, think this thread is best resolved by saying: OP, I'm glad you worked it out with your provider without breaking your contract. Congratulations on your baby. Without knowing what emergency you are facing, I hope your next few months go better for you. Thank you for your service.
So after posting this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399983
I decided a few days later to see what would happen if I added data roaming into the equation. I checked my sprint account and it showed ~380MB roaming data (12MB on sprint lol). Clearly not enough
I found myself a nice 1GB test file to download and was able to get it 3x the first night and 2x last night.
Woke up and go this text:
SprintFreeMsg: Please watch your mail for an important account notice. If your address has changed blah blah blah
I looked at my sprint account to see how much my roaming has went up and saw a much nicer 6.5GB! Not bad for 2 days of work!
I'm HOPING this is them parting ways with me, and I can finally go GSM (Nexus 4 probably).
Has anyone who has been terminated confirm this is the final straw or what?! :victory:
If they don't ETF you, I mean one thing is for certain, you're outta here!

Well I know for a fact they can't ETF you if they are the one terminating the contract.
I honestly wouldn't even be in such a rush to get off Sprint but I cracked my screen and don't want to spend the $$ when I was planning on leaving Sprint when my contract is up in March 2014 anyway... sooner the better though lol

Well, if you broke whatever terms are in their contract and they terminate it, yeah they can charge you an ETF.

They are sneaky though, said I had completely free roaming, didn't tell me if I went over X amount they would terminate me. I'm sure it was somewhere in that stack of papers.

That sucks. But, this would make you the first and only person i've ever heard of being charged an ETF when sprint ended the contract and not you. Maybe you caught the roaming department on a bad day or something.
