To my knowledge, you have to take it into one of the shops to have the hardware ID added to their system before you can activate it on their network. CDMA isn't as easy as GSM. I'm not entirely sure the phone services the same spectrum even if it supports the same access technology.
Secondly, I really doubt there is a free version of the full CDMA Workshop apps, how would they make their money? I could be wrong though.
It should be easy after you get the phone id (meid) registered with metro's system. Yo have to install QPST Build 355 or newer. To get the phone connected with, just enable debug mode, and dial ##3424 , then connect the phone to the pc with the usb cable, if you have win 7 , drivers will download automatically and you will be able to read the phone with qpst software, then just follow the guides for another android phones fladhing to metro. If you dont have win 7 you will have to look up for the drivers and install them. Whrn qpst asks for programming code, enter 000000, thats the same for all verizon phones.
I succefully flashed a Verizon's XP and now its working with calls and text for my iusacell carrier in mexico, but I just have 1x internet connection cause I cant make QPST PPP settings to stick, always revert to verizons, Im still looking for a solution for that. Hopefully someone here could help me solve it.

I managed to get a hold on an HTC Zara for Virgin Mobile (Model HTC 0P4E1), if anyone has access to these devices or knows how to generate a service code to unlock from VIrgin Mobile, a code to get get into diagnostic mode for CDMA workshop, or provide a compatible firmware image I would appreciate it much. I am pretty technical and can test out a lot of different procedures and report back here if people have suggestions.
Mods: Since the device is so new there is not a board for it yet, so I put this here in general unlocking and modifying.
EDIT: forgot to add, the device also needs DIAG drivers if anyone knows how to get them or a way to make the DIAG drivers for another HTC variant work

I have a sprint version (sph-l520). Has anyone been able to get QPST to work on this phone?
If so, which build number/version? Thank you!
No. Use SPCutility.apk with wifi on on the phone. Note down the SPC. Connect to pc by dialing ##3424# and select DM mode. Download and install DFS CDMA software with latest Samsung drivers installed. Make RUIM only in DFS and reboot. Insert any CDMA SIM. Everything works.
I have it working without Sim so I don't want to switch it to ruim-only because then it will require a Sim. My question about qpst is so I can program data without a Sim (I can't get data settings to stick using dfs.)
Has anyone else succesfuly used this phone with qpst? If so, what version and what build?

Recently I have purchased HTC 816 from China i.e (816d)which is dual sim variant cdma + gsm .
But I am not able to use Reliance or any other sim in its first slot which is for cdma when I insert sim it shows no network. But on second slot I am able to use my GSM Sim.
I have researched a lot on this and I find that its locked to China Telecom in China so I can't use it without some modifications in system.
Can any one suggest me how to make it work with all CDMA Operators in India .
Is there any tool for that like QPST, CDMA Workshop , I can do entire process if somebody help me in this .
Please help me.

If reliance is CDMA you could possibly flash it to the carrier with the MEID/ESN. open sesame door works still for that part but no IMEI until S-OFF.
If reliance doesn't use HA/AAA keys on the device and has their own HA/AAA password (e.g. "reliance" for example.) Then you can get 3G data on the first slot and use GSM on the second.
Like flashing the S3 to MetroPCS but its now Reliance lol.

Well. You would basically need a phone that's already on Reliance and active.
Then you would write down the MEID/ESN and HA / AAA keys after viewing it with some tool like dfstool or qpst or CDMA workshop.
Then use qpst for the open sesame door method for HTC devices to allow write.
Then you would destroy the phone that you copied the info from since you can't have two phones with the same MEID / ESN / IMEI active otherwise the company will completely block that donor from ever working even with transferred info.
Then you would put that info on the Desire.
Then OTA program the device with a profile and prl update and that's it really.
I can't go into depth but there are guides to flash the Sprint S3 to MetroPCS.
Same thing, except your using a Desire 816 and flashing to Reliance.
If you were already knowledgeable you would know that the info I've given is more than enough of a base to work with.

Hi, I have the exact same phone and I went crazy looking for a solution... But all that searching paid off (after months) and I was able to unlock my chinese 816d and I'm using Reliance CDMA on 3g in mumbai.
All you need to do is install ADB on your computer and root your 816D if it is not already rooted. Your need to 1) turn on USB Debugging on your phone 2) open command prompt from ADB and run the following command!
Code:
adb shell
su
setprop persist.radio.simlock.enable 0
reboot
Thats it! :highfive: you're home free.
(If you dont know about ADB or rooting - there are tons of tutorials out there that do a better job explaining it than I can ever dream to do!)
I can't and don't take any credit for these instructions... I found them a long time ago, and it was for a different HTC model - can't really remember the source *sorry*
Hope this works for you! Best of luck :good:
Hi, Could you tell me if I can follow the same process for an HTC desire 816 Virgin Mobile career?

I bought an HTC One M8 factory unlocked from Never MSRP. Most of the apps I try to install on the phone gives me an error " This item cannot be installed in your device's country". I am not even able to install whatsApp unless I use an apk from outside of the Google Store.
If I use any other android phone, I am able to install all of the apps that would not install on the HTC. I contacted HTC and they said it is because the phone was manufactured in Thailand.
Can anyone help please?

Return it for one thats compatible with your country.
OR
S-Off and chance the CID to your country / carrier device then install the proper RUU to match it.
But make sure your device is not a CDMA version going to GSM or visa versa. That wont work.

3g and 4g do not apply to this. Thats just a term used to tell what generation of telco equipment is installed.
Is it CDMA or GSM?
Im in the USA, SO TMOBILE and AT&T use GSM, while Verizon and Sprint use CDMA.
ALL of them also use LTE, but the chipset in the phone is different based on CDMA or GSM.
Flashing a GSM chipeset to a CDMA phone can brick it.
Hello,
I have rooted my phone and have loaded a custom rom onto my Sprint Galaxy s6 but am still somehow unable to switch my phone to a different network. I paid a $200 fee to Sprint to unlock my phone and yet I am unable to switch to another network.
I'm trying to follow the guides on XDA for updating my frequency bands in order to be able to switch to Verizon but am unable to access any hidden menu to obtain my MSL. I've been following this guide here but cannot get QPST to recognize my phone...
Has anyone successfully switched from Sprint? How did you do it? I'm sort of a noob here so any in depth explanation would be appreciated. I'm jut trying to switch from this awful service...
