EVO won't stop rebooting to fastboot - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Evo was running Syn RLS1 (no godmode) on the More Freedom kernel. However, I found that I preferred the goldenmonkey kernel, so i rebooted to recovery (TWRP) wiped dalvik, wiped cache, and flashed the goldenmonkey kernel. However, now, my phone will ONLY reboot to fastboot. Whether i click reboot recovery, reboot system, regardless, it reboots to fastboot. Tried full wipe, reflash, same problem. I really don't wanna have to flash the RUU, so does anyone have any idea? I'm S-OFF, revolutionary, btw.

By fastboot do you mean hboot?
You can try flashing Amon Ra 2.3 recovery and try flashing from that if you can get to hboot.

My mistake, i meant hboot, but it seems to be in fastboot mode. I reflashed TWRP through a PC36IMG, and everything seems to be working fine now.

Good to hear .
Yeah a reflash of the recovery is what I thought I just use ra never had any problems with it in a year but I'm looking forward to twrp 2.0 it looked pretty bad ass in some video I watched of it.

Not able to access recovery after netarchy-toastmod Kernal

So I have the "HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed" Rom, and the new Toastmod Kernal 4.0.3 which works great except now I can't get into clockwork recovery.
Before I added the kernal I had the rom stated above and recovery worked fine. Now when I go to bootloader with the new kernal, and click recovery, my evo just reboots the bootloader.
Any suggestions?
I would try and flash Amon Ra. I think it has to be flashed from bootloader as a pc36.img, but I'm not positive.
Sent from my FROYO'D EVO using xda app
Use Amon RA recovery. Clockwork sucks. There should be a link somewhere in the development forums. Just do a search for Amon RA.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Link is in my sig. Also, you can flash recovery with fastboot flash.
Thanks guys, I'm giving this a shot right now.
So the RA Recovery is on the root of the SD, but when I go into Fastboot or bootloader, I dont have an option to flash it. The only way I know how to flash is in recovery. However when I select recovery it just reboots the phone into hboot again.....
Guess I need a little more instruction, sorry.

You have to run fastboot on your PC after you go to fastboot on your phone, it is in the same place as ADB.

Ok, appreciate it. I'll have to read up on it.
Could I flash the stock kernal from the "Rom Manager" app, or would that not work?

[Q] Stuck in fastboot screen

Not sure if this is a boot loop or not but I updated HBOOT to 0.92 and when i rebooted my phone it always goes into the FASTBOOT screen. I'm able to get to recovery screen but when I reboot I go back to the FASTBOOT screen and can't boot up my phone.
How do i fix this? Do i need to reflash 0.79 HBOOT? if so, does anyone have a link where i can grab it?
I think you have to reflash a rom or kernel since updating the radio wipes the kernel.
Is updating HBOOT and radio the same?

I only flashed HBOOT 0.92, is there a difference between HBOOT and radio?

I can get to recovery and i can try to flash a ROM to see if that fixes it i just didn't want to make things worst.
Looks like flashing a new ROM fixed the issue thanks everyone!

I know it's been fixed, but for future reference flashing HBOOT wipes the kernel which sends you into a boot loop. If you have one handy, you can just flash one. If not, flashing a ROM installs a kernel.

You can also advanced restore a boot img from a nandroid backup

clockworkmod 2.5.0.5 to 2.5.1.2

so im on .0.5 and i seen that there is a 1.2 version available.. i've had no problems before or currently with .0.5, but i'm curious to the changelog of 1.2.. i'm not finding any info on it.. anything that would blow my mind or offer benefits.. much thanks..
I can confirm that it has optical trackpad scroll and works with SLCD screens.
No problems here either. Flashed a ROM, a kernel, a theme with 2.5.1.2 then restored a backup made with 2.5.0.5.
Ditto with the above. Flashed old backup using the new version of clockwork
where do i find if i am amoled or slcd??
I flashed clockworkmod 2.5.1.2 and now i can't get into recovery. It will boot into fastboot and hboot but when i click recovery from hboot it brings me to fastboot. Same thing when i try it from rom manager
incredible rooted with latest CM nightly, s-off

I can't reproduce this for ya, sorry I can't help.
Anyone know what was changed in the newest version? I'm tempted to switch back to 2.5.1.1 because it was workings fine for me and I don't know if this one will. Creating a backup right now hopefully it works, I want to try out the new skyraider rom

Only difference I've noticed is the addition of fix permissions and partition sd card under the Advanced tab

Do you mean it takes a long time, or that it never completes?
Checking MD5s can take a while.
It completes, but takes about 10 minutes. 2.5.1.1 had this problem as well.

I also can't get into recovery after flashing the new clockworkmod. Will boot into hboot but when I try to boot into recovery I get stuck at the HTC Incredible white screen.
In ROM Manager, clear download cache. Then flash a different version of Clockwork, the reflash the current one and test.

It's working fine for me. I opened up ROM Manager to do a back up and it prompted me to update CWM. I did it. Have rebooted into recovery a few times to be sure and have made a backup. Also the optical trackpad works MUCH faster and better in this version.

It might be a SLCD-related brick issue. On the previous version of CWM (2.5.0.5), you could flash a mod by (koush? adrynalyne? sp?) on top to get it working.
(I can't post links yet, so if you google "Rooting stock 2.2 using unrEVOked 3.22" it will be the first link, it's on incredibleforum, Step 3A of the OP)
Alternatively, putting BAMod on the root of your SD card works (if you don't get revoked tool etc to run cos it won't boot up) to start up your phone again into recovery. Remember to rename to "PB31IMG.zip"

[Q] cannot get into recovery

one similar thread was close, but no cigar....so here goes
EVO 4G rooted Unrevoked with amon ra 2.3, phone has been working just great since November, only thing I have done to it is flash some Roms, right now its running the Express RC1, I tried flashing the latest version of Express but it wouldnt take, but thats another story.
I was planning on flashing to another ROM so I connected the phone to PC and copied folders from sd card to PC folder, then I went into recovery and was going to backup again but with nandroid, and saw that the recovery menu prompts were different than what I normally see on other phones I work on, which I use Amon Ra 3.11, SO.. I decided to "upgrade" to the 3.11, so I rebooted to bootloader, then fastboot, went to command prompt and sent the flash of recovery.img to the phone, it said it was completed and I went to switch to recovery and it hung up on the splash screen.
After waiting for too long I pulled the battery and tried again, same problem, so I pulled it again and tried flashing it with Android Flasher, same thing, no luck. I did some searching and looked into ROM manager, but that only works with Clockwork, and I have Amon Ra.
I've tried periodically these same steps over again and cannot get it flashed, nor can get into recovery, getting to the bootloader is fine, booting the phone is fine, and works fine, but recovery just wont do.
I have also read that I could just upload an RUU and install that, but that would eliminate the nandroid, and as last resort will do it, but is there some other way I can get to recovery?
Edit: regarding clockwork, could I also install clockwork thru ROM manager, then come around and install amon ra? sounds like I could but...?

You should try that, that's easier way for you. Then flash amon ra properly. Always check md5 sum of download, the file could have been corrupted.

Well that didnt work either, went to the ROM manager, and flashed the clockwork recovery, rebooted into recovery but it never got there just hung up on the HTC splash screen before it, and I left it there for about 15 minutes.
I can reboot and its working fine, just cant get into recovery, what now?
Maybe RUU install?

Did you go in applications then settings and see if fastboot is unchecked. Or pull out the battery, then hold the power button and volume down and see when you get to the screen with three androids on the bottom, scroll to recovery and choose it by clicking power button?

[Q] Bootloop help

I've been hitting boot loops left and right. After beups s-off method, I succesfully flashed custom recovery and a ROM, but I accidentally flashed an international version of a kernel. During the aroma installer it froze and I restarted the phone, but now it will not boot normally or into recovery. I've tried to flash the stock kernel but I still can not get into recovery. Any advice? I've tried different recoveries and erased fastboot cache before each flash
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I did a factory reset through the fastboot, reflashed the recovery img and wiped the recovery cache and it allowed me to run cwm. Then, since I was having issues mounting, I used CWM's sideload program in their recovery that allowed me to flash roms without having to put them on the SD card. Where are you stuck at?
