[Q] ROM Image I guess.... - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so, taken bits and pieces and scripted some code and loaded it on my phone bit by bit. So I was wondering if there was a way I could make an image and flash upload it to be flashed on others phone. Is there anyway to create something like and ISO for android from lets say a BackUp?

You could do a nandroid...and what do you mean by "flashed" by other phones? Flash as in Clockwork Mod or Odin?

So it'd most likely be a clockwork mod .zip file.
Anyway, how id do it is backup with nandroid, copy the backup to my computer, then use unyaffs to extract the system.img. then make a flashable zip of the system files.

Make a nandroid backup in clock work mod. If you dont have clock work, you will have to install that first. Search the dev thread for the CWM recovery threads
Okay, i have cwm and i have it backed up. so if i download ics and flash it i will be able to restore my old data?

edit: also make sure repartition and auto reboot are checked in Odin!

1. Odin
2. Victory.pit file
3. A stock tar
The only reason for this is,it is the way to get back to the BML partition. Once you are back on stock, your back up will work as it should!
edit: If you use a non rooted stock .tar you will have to install CWM again. I am looking for the rooted ec05 tar for you right now.
this is a stock rooted ec05 tar from noobnl. http://www.mediafire.com/?opnq0n0pau8cu01

[Discussion] Rogue FC06 Repack

Questions/Comments/Issues go in here
Restoring Gingerbread Images
I am attempting to use rogue_ET_recovery_1.2.2_FC06 to restore to a Android 2.3 backup. I have tried to restore a couple of backups, in each case, I am getting a MD5 mismatch. Each time I did a OS backup, recovery did create a MD5 sum.
These backups are located on the external sd card.
Are there any tools that can parse the backups and verify MD5 sums?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Can you please briefly explain why not to flash roms from this recovery? I will heed your warning but i'm curious and could use a little explanation. Thanks for all your time and work!
Can I flash ICS4ICS theme through this?
Do you have any plans or knowledge of another's plans to support the USCC R760? It's painful over here without any support (re: ports from a bigger carrier).
Alternately, do you want an apprentice? What I lack in skills, I make up for in moxie!

Known Issues-
-Flashing anything for ICS is risky and could result in bricking your device. It has been said a safe bet is using stock EL26 CWR to flash. By flashing our repack you agree that we are not held liable.

I used odin EL29 + CWM to get back to 2.3.6, but still encountered MD5 mismatch when I attempted to restore several backups of Blazer rom. I finally had to flash via recovery the Blazer rom. I did happen to rename the backup folders at the time of the backups. I read somewhere else in the forum where renames with spaces will clobber MD5 checksum.
Thanks.
I have been using all of his repacked versions to flash themes, app packs, and updates... so that is a huge bit of misinformation there!
I haven't even software bricked my phone and I've literally flashed every single leak in the past week or so.
Just follow directions folks.

Honestly its crazy how many different opinions exist on this topic. Some of the top dogs are saying this kernel / recovery shouldn't be used for flashing roms, others say you can't nandroid from ICS to GB, others say Odin is the only safe way to go...
As long as this confusion persists, there is only one sure thing...noobs like me will be brickin' ...

[Q] I have a few questions about pulling files

Okay so I Am trying to teach myself how to do some of this stuff. I really like to play with computers and I have always been really good with them but I have always been self-taught. Anyway I am trying to pull the stock recovery image for the 2.3.6 update we got. So what I did was I went to the thread where it was posted here and took the file (SGH-T989_TMB_1_T989UVKL1_CL799405_REV00) and unzipped it in WinRAR then I extracted a file called recovery.img
So is that it? Is that how to get the stock recovery? If I flash that through Odin then CWM will be gone? If I wanted to make it flashable through CWM can it be done and how would I do that? If that is not the right way to do it then what is the proper way?
I appreciate any help anyone can give me it is not a big deal but I just want to learn how to do things for myself so I don’t have to rely on others. So if anyone wants to share and teach I would really appreciate it.

Not sure you can flash a recovery.img via CWM, MAYBE, but I am going to go out on a limb and say, not, because if you are in CWM, the recovery partition is mounted and in use, so it will not let you overwrite it ....
yeah I kinda was thinking that too but I wasnt sure thanks for the info
For starting out you can look for a rom kitchen (forgot name sorry) update your phine to latest ota then do a nandroid backup from cwm and then load those files to kitchen and create it like that.

TO ANYONE WITH A TMOBILE NOTE2 THAT ROOTED BY FLASHING CWM RECOVERY AND FLASHING THE ROOT ZIP FILE. CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE A NAND BACKUP USING THE TAR FORMAT AND SEND ME THE BOOT.IMG FILE SO I CAN ROOT IT AND ADD FULL SUPPORT TO THE TOOLKIT.
ANYONE WHO HAS TRIED ROOTING THE TMOBILE AND SPRINT VERSIONS BY FLASHING AN INSECURE BOOT IMAGE INSTEAD OF THE RECOVERY METHOD. DO NOT WORRY AS YOU JUST HAVE AN INCOMPATIBLE BOOT IMAGE ON YOUR PHONE AND AS SOON AS I CAN GET THE STOCK FILE FROM SOMEONE YOUR PROBLEMS CAN BE EASILY FIXED.
I NEED THIS FILE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO ANYONE THAT CAN HELP PLEASE GET ON IT ASAP
TMOBILE USERS WHO HAVE SOFT BRICKED BY FLASHING THE N7100 BOOT IMAGE CAN DOWNLOAD *THIS* FILE WHICH WAS POSTED BY SLIMC84 AND FLASH IT VIA ODIN WHICH SHOULD FIX YOUR BOOT PARTITION. HOWEVER IF YOU ALSO FLASHED AN N7100 ROM THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE MAKES A FULL NAND BACKUP AND POSTS IT.

yup, basically copy the extracted folder to your sdcards:\clockworkmod\backups\
then in CWM, restore each from the folder.
i'm testing right now to be sure it works. the backups are super tiny so i'm worried there's a bug in CWM or it uses crazy awesome compression.

Addis did you try that stock rom that's floating around for t-mobile it's about 1.2 gb in 3 chunks
Basically i f'd up the phone after rooting.
Tried the t-mobile stock rom and it flashed it properly.
EVERYTHING works except the modem.
So i've already flashed with a stock rom with no modem.
